- 70 - The return of the Moai at Coral Castle
This time, we will look back at two sites we covered in the past, but with some new information and approaches. Today's excursion is based on the Ancient Aliens episode "Mysterious Structures" from season eight. This is basically a clip show from past episodes. A bit of the issue with Ancient Aliens is that they tend to reuse material over time. But to add some new things, I'll discuss Ancient Aliens, Graham Hancock's latest season of Ancient Apocalypse, and a TikToker, all trying to claim Rapa Nui or Easter Island as either Aliens, Atlantis, or both.
In the second half, we will look at the Coral Castle and if this modern megalithic structure could be an alien intervention. A hint: it's not.

The episode features a lively and critical dialogue between Frederik and Dr. Charlotte Coull, a public historian specializing in the cultural significance of stone. They explore the problematic narratives surrounding megaliths and ancient sites as portrayed in the popular television show Ancient Aliens. A key focus of their discussion is the site of Avebury, where Dr. Call emphasizes the emotional and historical connections people have with stone structures, urging listeners to recognize the deep cultural roots these sites have in human history rather than relegating them to mere alien constructs.
The conversation also touches upon the stone spheres of Costa Rica and their misrepresentation in the media, arguing that erosion and natural processes can explain their shape, rather than attributing them to alien technology.
Fredrik and Dr. Coull's engaging exchange serves as a reminder of the importance of critical thinking in the face of alternative histories that often prioritize spectacle over fact. They encourage listeners to appreciate the complexities of ancient craftsmanship and the human stories woven into the fabric of these historical sites, advocating for a respectful and informed exploration of our past. The episode is a compelling call to action for those interested in archaeology and history to challenge sensationalist narratives and embrace a more nuanced understanding of the ancient world.

Mon, 28 Oct 2024 - 1h 02min - 68 - Runestones and monsters: The Intersection of Archaeology and Myth
Monsters have long captivated human imagination, and this episode delves into the fascinating legend of a lake monster in Sweden, specifically the creature said to inhabit Storsjön, or the Big Lake. This tale intertwines with regional identity and the historical significance of a runestone associated with the beast, which adds a unique layer to the narrative of monsters and archaeological artifacts. The legend, first documented by a Danish priest in the 17th century, highlights how folklore can shape local culture and community ties. However, the episode also sheds light on the darker implications of this myth, including the misuse of taxpayer funds in efforts to prove the monster's existence. Ultimately, it raises important questions about pseudoscience, historical narratives, and the balance between cultural heritage and fiscal responsibility.

The legend of crystal skulls captivates the imagination, interweaving tales of ancient wisdom, extraterrestrial artifacts, and mystical powers. However, a closer examination reveals that many of these claims are steeped in modern invention rather than historical fact. Frederick meticulously investigates the origins of the most notorious crystal skulls, notably the Mitchell-Hedges Skull, which has been venerated by some as an ancient artifact with supernatural qualities. Contrary to popular belief, extensive research indicates that these skulls were likely manufactured in Germany, utilizing modern tools and techniques that were not available to ancient civilizations.
Throughout this captivating exploration, Frederick addresses the pseudoscientific narratives that have proliferated around these skulls, exposing the lack of credible evidence supporting their supposed ancient origins. The episode further critiques the appropriation of Indigenous cultures in the promotion of these myths, spotlighting how New Age movements often fabricate connections to Native American spiritual practices to enhance the allure of these artifacts. The discussion serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of misrepresenting cultural histories and the commercialization of spiritual beliefs, reminding listeners that the enchanting stories surrounding crystal skulls are often just that—stories—rather than grounded realities. Ultimately, this episode calls for a more nuanced understanding of these artifacts, advocating for recognition of their artistic value while dispelling the myths that have overshadowed their true origins.

Mon, 05 Aug 2024 - 1h 53min - 62 - A kinda true story
This is the finale of our summer special. The second part of Lucian of Samosata's novel “A True Story.” While the first part is filled with space travels and battles on distant planets, this part will deal with other topics. What was Homer's true nationality, why Pythagoras didn’t like his victory meal, and if Herodotus were sent to the Greek version of hell for his accounts?
Lucian of Samosata, a second-century CE author, penned what some consider the first science fiction novel in history, "A True Story." Lucian vividly describes space travel, intergalactic battles, alien beings, and even alien abductions in this short story. However, rather than attempting to write a sci-fi epic, Lucian's work is a satirical critique of contemporary travel books and historical accounts. In this episode, we'll continue to look at Lucian's imaginative narrative and see how it gives us a unique window into the ancient world.

Tue, 23 Jul 2024 - 58min - 61 - A True Story
In this summer special episode, while traveling and soaking up the sun, I found myself contemplating a different kind of travel—space travel. Inspired by the frequent claims made in "Ancient Aliens" that ancient myths and stories actually describe UFOs and space rockets using the vocabulary of the time, I wanted to explore this concept further. However, I often find these interpretations to be misleading or misrepresentative of the original texts. This sparked an intriguing thought: How would an ancient person genuinely describe space travel?
Enter Lucian of Samosata, a second-century CE author who penned what some consider the first science fiction novel in history, "A True Story." In this short story, Lucian vividly describes space travel, intergalactic battles, alien beings, and even alien abductions. However, rather than attempting to write a sci-fi epic, Lucian's work is actually a satirical critique of contemporary travel books and historical accounts. In this episode, we'll delve into Lucian's imaginative narrative and see how it gives us a unique window into ancient perceptions of space travel.

Mon, 24 Jun 2024 - 44min - 59 - Silencing history and memory in the Christ of Europe
This time, we are going to do something a little bit different. We will do a case study of a country where the government has started to promote its preferred historical narrative. While some might not call that alternative history or pseudo-history, I would argue that this is overlapping. So we will look at Poland and its memory laws, how the government is policing museums, and trying to silence research on Polish complicity in the Holocaust. We will also look at Polish history to see how it came to be and what national memory they draw from.
We will look at how they create emotionally triggering museums while leaving out the parts of history that put Poland in a bad light. We will see how PiS, the ruling party, is trying to silence museum directors and professors who don't follow the party line. In the past, we have discussed how governments in Bosnia and Indonesia have used state funds to promote psuedoscience. This isn't too far off, just fewer aliens and lost civilizations. But it is still essential to keep our eyes on this pseudo-history in times like this.

In the second part of the episode, I’m joined by Professor Howard Williams, also known as Archaeodeath on TikTok and YouTube. We will discuss our thoughts on the debate and what was good and bad.

In this episode, we continue our deep dive into one of the most intriguing and controversial relics, the Shroud of Turin. Building on our previous discussion of the shroud's historical journey, today we shift our focus to its scientific aspects. If you haven't listened to the first part of this exploration, I highly recommend going back for a complete understanding.
Our discussion will navigate through various scientific analyses and archaeological contexts to answer a pivotal question: Could the Shroud of Turin authentically date back to the first century? We'll explore the burial customs of the Second Temple period, the weave patterns of ancient textiles, and modern scientific methods like carbon dating and pollen analysis.

Some claim the cloth carries the image of Jesus Christ, and others have pointed out that making a copy of it is relatively simple. And yes, Ancient Aliens are using the shroud as evidence for their alien hypothesis.
Today, we will deal with the cloth's historical events, from its shrouded origin to initial accusations of being a hoax and its journey to Turin.

Some claim they functioned as priestly antennas, but how do they fit into the Bronze Age cult. Then we will move on to the Copper Scrolls, one of the maybe more mysterious documents in the Dead Sea Scroll collection. It's a treasure map written on copper and hidden in a cave. That Indiana Jones, Nic Cage, or any other treasure movie franchise has not picked this story up yet is potentially one of our larger mysteries in this episode. How were the great pyramids of Giza built? This is a question that's been asked for a long time. The answers have been ranging from those based on the best available evidence to the more far-out ideas. Among those there are suggestions that such precision and scale could only be the work of extraterrestrial intervention. But what do the most recent archaeological discoveries and scientific experiments tell us?
This time we delve into the true ingenuity behind these monumental structures. The pseudo-historical narratives often propose that the pyramids' advanced engineering and astronomical alignments are beyond human capability. Yet, a closer examination of historical records, architectural techniques, and archaeological findings reveals a different story.

Giants have long fascinated us humans and seem to be a never-ending resource for archaeological hoaxes. Towards the end of the 19th century, there almost became a trend to create giant hoaxes. In some cases, this was just to amuse; in others, it was to prove the Bible right.
In this episode, we will look at three cases. The Lovelock giant. The San Diego giant. And, of course, the most famous of them all, the Cardiff giant. Let's investigate the origins of these giants and see what archaeology has to say about these cases. What are the sources telling us, and what have other people invented afterward?

In this episode of Digging Up Ancient Aliens, the host, Fredrik, revisits Gunung Padang, a site in Indonesia that has become known due to a study and a pseudo-documentary on Netflix. We compare Ancient Aliens narratives and Graham Hancock's Atlantis Hyperdiffusion Theory. The then-sitting government initiated the excavation project at Gunung Padang in 2011 as part of a strategy to redefine nationalistic ideas and create a new national monument founded on an imagined advanced civilization. Now, both Ancient Aliens, Graham Hancock, and other Atlantis believers claim that the site reveals a 300-foot-tall step pyramid dating back at least 10,000 years. We will spend this episode looking at the hard evidence, the funding, and the reality of the claims, both from Ancient Aliens, Graham Hancock, Danny Hilman Natawidjaja, and others.
It will be an information-packed episode where we will discover how pseudoscience actively defunds vulcano monitoring programs. How Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis has been disproven and how to not do your C14 dating. We also spent time among the Toraja people in Indonesia and learned about their culture. And what on Earth does Megan Fox have to do with any of this?

In this episode, we delve deeper into the top ten pyramids of the world according to the TV show "Ancient Aliens." Our focus is on the Egyptian pyramids and the myths surrounding their construction. We will examine the Djoser Step Pyramid, the oldest pyramid on the list, and discuss how it was built as a tomb for the third dynastic ruler, Netjerikhet. We will also discuss the great pyramid builder Sneferu and his contributions to Ancient Egypt's creation of a true pyramid building.
One of the most controversial topics surrounding the Egyptian pyramids is the discovery of human remains. Many alternative historians claim that there is no credible evidence of bodies ever being entombed in the pyramids. However, this is simply not true. Carbon dating has shown that at least two pharaohs seem to have been found in their pyramids, and there is evidence of remains in several others. The pyramid of Djoser, for example, contained human remains, although they were found to be from a later burial and not from the pharaoh himself. Nevertheless, the pyramid was designed to be a tomb from the beginning, as evidenced by texts from ancient visitors in the mortuary temple who talk about their visit to the grave.
So join us as we separate fact from fiction and uncover the truth behind the Egyptian pyramids. We aim to provide you with a deeper understanding of ancient history and help you evaluate claims about alternative history and ancient aliens in popular media. Don't miss this episode of "Digging Up Ancient Aliens" - it's sure to be an enlightening and fascinating journey into the past.

An archaeologist discussing Rasputin, the famous scapegoats from the Russian Revolution, Nazi symbology, and the stigmatization of mental health in pop culture? Yes, you do want to hear this.
First, we will talk about how Ancient Aliens and similar shows add to the stigma of mental health with the claims they make in their show. Then we move on to talk about the Rasputin myth, and while finding out who he really was, we learn that many of the pop myths about him are incredibly unfair. Last out, we will deal with the Nazi Symbol called the Black Sun. Some claim it's drawn from Norse sources. We will discover that's far from the case and that the neo nazi mythology circulating about it originates from a 1991 novel.

Halloween is soon upon us. Therefore, we will venture into the world of mummies, vampires, Camazotz, and draugr from an archaeological perspective. So we will look at how mummies became a medicine in Europe, the Book of the Dead, and the afterlife of Ancient Egypt. Then we will talk about the bat creature Camazotz, usually depicted with a knife and a human head in his hand. Lastly, we will discuss the draugr from Viking mythology. Was the draugr a ghost, undead, or something else, and what did the Vikings do to protect themselves from these creatures?
Are there any archeological records of these beings, and what can we say about them?

Tue, 17 Oct 2023 - 54min - 41 - Harassment, violence, and mud
Something that's become more and more common on the web is the use of harassment tactics. Skeptics and archaeologists have not been spared from being on the receiving end of these campaigns, so let's have a serious discussion about this. I will look into the harassment campaign by Graham Hancock and Jimmy Corsetti and previous attacks concerning the Bosnian Pyramids and Gungun Padang. I will examine the relationship between the manosphere and pseudo-history and their draw into the alt-right speaking points.
Parts of the section are based on a talk by the president of ESCO, Claire Klingenberg. In addition, with the newly released book "The Routledge Companion to Gender, Media and Violence" and Lucy Cookes "Bitch: A revolutionary guide to sex, evolution and the female animal."
Then, we will also look into the Asaro Mudmen and see how quickly a tradition can evolve. Especially when it plays into the Western romanticization of tribal culture. Can a tradition be copyrighted, and can some practices be considered a commodity? These are all valid questions when Asaro is trying to defend a practice that originated in 1950.

Tue, 03 Oct 2023 - 38min - 40 - The non-mystery of Puma Punku and Tiwanaku
This time, we will explore the fantastic ruins of Puma Punku (or Pumapunku), a temple complex located within Tiwanaku (Tiahuanaco or Tiahuanacu). This site lies in modern Bolivia, and its stunning stone masonry has given rise to speculation about alien visitation. Let's investigate the site, what we know, and what has been done in the past. We will see that the alien theories are rather lazy compared to the site's real history and archaeology.
In Digging up Ancient Aliens, our host Fredrik uses his background in archaeology to discover what is genuine, fake, and somewhere in between in popular media, such as Ancient Aliens, Ancient Apocalypse, and many other places.
In this episode:
The History of Tiwanaku and Puma Punku (2:16)
When was the site built, and what is the area's history?
Construction of Puma Punku (20:23)
How was the site built? We use experimental archaeology to learn how the site could have been constructed.
Fuente Magna Bowl (30:24)
A bowl claimed to have been found around Lake Titicaca is claimed to have a Sumerian script on it. Could this be true? Let's find out together.

Tue, 05 Sep 2023 - 1h 02min - 38 - Aliens and Heavy Metall-urgy
Weapons, something that has been driving our evolution and survival as a species. Ancient Alien theorists suggest alien beings from other worlds gave us weapons, metals, and techniques. But what would an archaeologist say about all of this?
In this episode, we will look at the evolution of metallurgy, from the earliest copper age to the invention of steel. What do we know, and how did these techniques evolve? As we will see, it was not as simple as one might think, as metalwork developed in different regions at different times.
We will also look at Katanas, and they're supposed to be of superior quality. Are katana the superior weapon we see in movies, or are these just modern pop culture myths?
Lastly, I will talk about Joan D'Arc. There are strange claims regarding her sword. Did she possess weaponry beyond the technology of the time, or can we find a mundane explanation for one of the claimed miracles?

Tue, 22 Aug 2023 - 50min - 37 - Vikings: Myth, Saga, and Reality
Vikings - many myths surround this era and the people of Scandinavia who lived during this time. Were they raiders, traders, or a bit in-between? Let's look into what a Viking was and what the word meant, and who could call themselves a Viking. As we will learn, it is less clear-cut than one might believe.
I will also talk about the Viking horned helmets. Are these accurate depictions? The answer might be surprising and have a strange connection to the Scandinavian Bronze Age.
Did the Vikings have tattoos, as in the famous TV show? What do we know about their body art? Is the Vegvisir a Viking symbol? And why should you make an appointment with your dentist instead of a tattoo artist to have the Viking look?
I'll also investigate why the sheep was one of the most important animals in Scandinavia and might have been the reason for the Viking raids and slavery. At last, we will learn that the Vikings might have based their society on their looks.

Tue, 08 Aug 2023 - 52min - 36 - Atlantis Reloaded - Richat structure and the Jimmy Corsetti misstake
The Atlantis story may be one of the myths that have inspired numerous theories and speculations. But what happens if we apply a scientific approach to the story told by Plato in his works Timeaus and Critias? We open up the archaeologist's toolbox and a historical approach to the literary works of Plato. How does Plato's story hold up, and was he really trying to give us a literal account from a philosophical perspective?
While the Atlantis story has inspired writers such as Graham Hancock and David Childress, a new name has recently gotten much attention. Jimmy Corsetti is one of these personalities who claim to have found the actual location of this legendary city. According to Corsetti, the location is a location called the Richat structure. Is this true? What evidence can we find for and against this, and how well does this theory hold up in the end?
In Digging up Ancient Aliens, our host Fredrik uses his background in archaeology to discover what is genuine, fake, and somewhere in between in popular media, such as Ancient Aliens, Ancient Apocalypse, and many other places.

Tue, 25 Jul 2023 - 56min - 35 - Plato: Critias - Atlantis, philosophers and aliens?
It's summertime, so why not take a breath and relax? While examining pseudo-scientific claims is important, it's good to remember to take a breath and relax. It is also essential to look at the source material for the claims we investigate. So we will combine these things and have a bit of summer reading.
This episode is different since we will spend time reading Plato's work "Critias" from start to finish. As you might know, this is the source for the Atlantis story, and you will get it uncensored in all its glory.
So take a break, have some coffee, and let's tune in to the ongoing lecture from Plato.

Tue, 27 Jun 2023 - 00min - 33 - Among aliens, gods and poets
Could it be conceivable that the tales of myths, legends, and divine entities are evidence of extraterrestrial interactions with our planet? It is plausible that the ancient Greek writers, historians, and intellectuals could not accurately express what they observed due to a lack of language and understanding. Additionally, is it possible that the La Danza de los Voladores, an ancient Central American tradition, proves that humans could fly five centuries ago? Most likely not but let's find out what's what with some science and skepticism.
We are not only asking questions here; we will answer them by learning more about Greek Mythology, moral philosophy, voyeuristic kings and bodyguards, and of course, mesoamerican ritual practices. So pull up a chair, relax, and let's uncover what's true or not.

Tue, 20 Jun 2023 - 58min - 32 - Montauk Monster and solving the mystery of Mohenjo Daro
Some people claim that monsters and gods could be evidence for alien visitations and that E.T. could have changed and mixed DNA on creatures that became gods for ancient people. But is there any truth to this?
Archaeologist Fredrik is looking into the claims that the Montauk Monster found in 2008 could be evidence of this. Or could the monster be an ordinary creature distorted by postmortem processes?
Further, we look into radioactivity claims in Mohenjo-Daro, an archaeological site in today's Pakistan. We will discuss city planning and waste management and how a small translation error can create a modern legend.

Thu, 11 May 2023 - 48min - 30 - Aliens in Aokigahara forest and Dyatlov Pass
Let's venture into a world of supposed mysteries. Could alien interference be behind the reputation of Aokigahara Forest, or as some have named it, "The Suicide forest," and the tragedy at Dyatlov Pass?
In Digging up Ancient Aliens, our host Fredrik uses his background in archaeology to discover what is genuine, fake, and somewhere in between in popular media such as Ancient Aliens.
This time we're looking into episode ten from season three, "Aliens and evil places." Or rather, we look into two of the sites brought up in the episode, Aokigahara Forest and Dyatlov Pass.
Aokigahara Forest has been called in popular media the "Suicide Forest," and we will look into the reason behind this. By investigating Japanese culture, history, and the area itself, we will try to find the reason for the forest's reputation. While I don't go into any gruesome details, the topic of suicide will be discussed in the episode. If you need help or someone to talk to, I've collected some resources below.
Then we're off to Russia and will dissect the Dyatlov Pass incident. What happened that night when nine hikers died, and what does the Disney movie Frozen have to do with the answer?

Fri, 28 Apr 2023 - 41min - 29 - Alien creationism with Josh Lindal
Most of us are most likely aware of the arguments against the theory of evolution presented by religious extremists. But did you know that Ancient Aliens believers have their version of evolution denialism? In this episode, we will examine their arguments for this fringe idea. More importantly, we will learn more about human evolution from a real expert.
We have Josh Lindal, a paleoanthropologist at the University of Winnipeg, guesting on this episode. Josh is also one of the hosts of the podcast "Screens of the Stone Age." A show where three archaeologists watch and discuss different archaeological-themed movies and series.

Tue, 11 Apr 2023 - 1h 30min - 28 - Aliens and the Secret Code
Are you ready to uncover the secret code to Alien navigation? Or are the evidence just historical sites that are being misinterpreted?
In Digging up Ancient Aliens, our host Fredrik uses his background in archaeology to discover what is genuine, fake, and somewhere in between on the TV show Ancient Aliens.
This time we're investigating the claim that different lines and grids cross the earth with strange powers. According to the believers, these grids were used by the Ancient Aliens to navigate, and in some of the locations, power stations were built. So, is there any truth in this? Let's examine this with a bit of skepticism and science.
First, we start by trying to locate what some call the World Grid, Planetary Grid, or Earth Energy Grid. Some propose that Plato first discovered this. Is this true, or was the philosopher talking about something else?
Then we go to Ireland and the Newgrange Mound. Could this monument hold alien alignments that the Neolithic people of Ireland could not have known?
Then we investigate Ley Lines, Viking forts, and if the Vikings could have traveled not by sea. But by air.
Lastly, we will look into Thor Heyerdahl and ask ourselves what harm pseudoscience can cause and what other ideas it can inspire.

Thu, 30 Mar 2023 - 56min - 27 - Ancient Apocalypse IV - Written in stone with Jens Notroff
In this episode, we continue to look into Graham Hancock's new Netflix show, Ancient Apocalypse. Join Fredrik, who uses his background in archaeology and a bit of skepticism to look deeper into the claims presented in the show. Is Hancock on to something we missed, or are there better explanations?
This is the final chapter of our Ancient Apocalypse saga. We have looked at Hancock's origin and spent time at several different sites in episodes 31 and 32.
In this episode, we revisit the infamous Bimini Road in the Bahamas. This site has long been touted as evidence of everything from extraterrestrial visitation to Graham Hancock's lost civilization. But is there any evidence to support these claims? We critically examine the site and its history, separating fact from fiction.
We then delve into the world of old maps, including Piri Reis's map of the world, which has been the subject of much speculation and controversy. Is there any evidence suggesting that this map proves advanced ancient civilizations existed? We examine the claims and see where the evidence sets the course.
Later, we're joined by archaeologist Jens Notroff, an expert on Göbekli Tepe, an archaeological site that has been the subject of many pseudoscientific theories. Jens shares his knowledge and insights about the site, bringing you the latest research. He has also been involved in the project Tepe Telegrams.
Finally, we explore the archeoastronomy claims made by Martin Sweatman and presented by Graham Hancock. Are these claims based on solid evidence or mere speculation? We examine the evidence and present a critical analysis.

Tue, 14 Feb 2023 - 1h 12min - 24 - Ancient Apocalypse - A sage is rising in the west (w. Jeb Card and Brian Dunning)
Netflix's new documentary Ancient Apocalypse was on top of the charts for quite some time. The show is hosted by Graham Hancock, a writer who has written several books regarding his theory of a lost stone age civilization. The series is based on Hancock's books "Magicians of the Gods" and "America before."
But how well do Hancock's claims hold up when examined? In this episode, Fredrik, with his background in archaeology, looks into the origins of the theories of Hancock. We will learn more about what he is about and where these ideas originated. This journey will be through esoterism, Blavatskian Theosophy, philosophy, and archaeological methods.
We're also joined by Dr. Jeb Card and Brian Dunning, who shares their knowledge about these ideas.
Dr. Card is an Assistant Teaching Professor at Miami University and a pre-Hispanic Maya political history specialist. He has also been dealing with pseudoscience for a long time. Dr. Card has written Spooky Archaeology and co-edited Lost city, found pyramid. He is also the co-host of the podcast "In research of" and, previously, co-host of Archaeological Fantasies.
Brian Dunning is the host of the award-winning show Skeptoid, that's been going on for 16 years. He has also produced several documentaries, but recently "Science friction." It's a documentary about how filmmakers edit scientists out of context, something people have witnessed happening in Ancient Apocalypse. Brian also has a new documentary that will soon be released called "The UFO Movie THEY Don't Want You to See".

Are you ready to uncover the truth behind some of the most mysterious feats of engineering in history? Join Fredrik, who uses his background in archaeology to discover what is genuine, fake, and somewhere in between on the TV show Ancient Aliens.
In this episode, we explore some of the most mind-blowing feats of engineering and ask the question, could extraterrestrial interference be to blame? The answer is most likely not but let's see what they got. We'll take a trip to the ancient Incan village of Ollantaytambo, where we'll uncover mysterious stonework that has puzzled some experts.
Next, we'll head to Teotihuacán and join Giorgio Tsoukalos, as he unravels the connection between PI and the pyramids. We also have to ask ourselves if this location could be part of a giant computer.
We'll also delve into the marvel Vijayanagara in India with David Childress, and explore what the ideas in Vastu shastra might mean for the site.
But that's not all. We'll also take a journey to the temples of Karnak and Malta, where we'll examine ancient structures that some claim are impossible to create with the tools available at their construction. Are they evidence of extraterrestrial involvement or just advanced ancient engineering? Tune in to find out!

In this little bonus episode, we'll listen to a reading of Ambrose Bierce's short story "The Difficulty of Crossing a Field." It's about a mysterious disappearance, so it might fit well with the month we're in now. Also, according to Ancient Aliens proponents, this work is one of the best examples of alien abduction in American literature.
So pull up a chair, get cozy, and we will have Dizzy tell us a story. Then we will attempt a small literary analysis of Ambrose Bierce.

Tue, 04 Oct 2022 - 12min - 15 - Aliens in the old west II - Mormons, blood, and monsters
Howdy partner, nice to see you there. Take place by the fire while we continue the mission to discover what is genuine, fake, and somewhere in between on the TV show Ancient Aliens. With a background in archeology, our host Fredrik is trying to see what really did happen in our past.
Let's brush off the dirt and get back up in the saddle as we finish the second half of episode one from season three (S03E01) called "Aliens in the old west."
We're going deep into America's early days and meeting its inhabitants that, according to some, tell strange tales of creatures not belonging there.
Today we will cover the genesis of the Mormon church or "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." Are stories about angels and other beings evidence of an extraterrestrial influence on Joseph Smith? We look into the early days of church history and uncover a violent past with our scientific research. We unveil ties to the moundbuilder myth and a great dose of plastic shamanism.
Later, we learn about Blackfoot mythology and read poetry from Walt Whitman. There's also the fate of Ambrose Bierce and a strange flying creature in both California and Arizona.
As usual, you'll find a full transcript, sources, and resources on our website diggingupancientaliens.com.
Our outro is written and performed by the band trallskruv; all other music in the show was used with permission.
Tue, 20 Sep 2022 - 1h 12min - 14 - Aliens in the old west
A warm and starry night in Texas. Except for a few crickets chirping and the wind rustling the trees, the night is dead silent. The small town's population is all in its beds. Not yet aware, this one-horse town would be thrown into the UFO frontier with an ear-deafening crash.
Our host Fredrik continues the mission to discover what is genuine, fake, and somewhere in between on the TV show Ancient Aliens. This time we'll look into the first half of episode 1 from season 3 (S03E01) called "Aliens in the old west." It will be an exciting journey through American history where they somewhat will focus on the era of the Cowboys. Even if we don't encounter them much here in the first part, they will come later.
In this episode, we'll cover the Aurora UFO incident and the Serpent mound. We'll cover the latest research and theories about these topics. We will also cover a bit of New-Age history and Plastic Shamans. As usual, you'll find a full transcript, sources, and resources on our website diggingupancientaliens.com.

Tue, 30 Aug 2022 - 58min - 13 - The Bosnian Pyramids
Next to a small village in Bosnia there is what some believe is the world's oldest and largest pyramid. Sitting there forgotten for millennials until one man discovered them again. Or did he?
Our host Fredrik continues the mission to discover what is genuine, fake, and somewhere in between on the TV-show Ancient Aliens. But in this episode we’re going to do a little side tour and peek into the Bosnian Pyramids.
This is a little shorter episode where we break away from the TV-show and investigate a new phenomenon that was all the rage a decade ago. We will dive deep into who created the origin, is it really real and what is the evidence behind it.
This also means that we will have to get to know Semir Osmanagic a lot better. If you’re not already familiar with this name you will be at the end of this episode.
We also talk a little about real European pyramids and a little bit about modern Bosnia. Come with and learn how a modern myth was created.

Did a UFO really crash in Germany and did it contain blueprints for advanced weapons?
Who was Maria Orsic and could she really control the power of Vril?
Is there remains of a wonder weapon in an abandoned polish mine?
Our host Fredrik continues the mission to discover what is genuine, fake, and somewhere in between on the TV-show Ancient Aliens. In this episode we will break down episode ten from season two (Ancient Aliens S02E10) called “Aliens and the Third Reich”. It originally aired on November 25 2010.
This episode will be a bit more serious one than usual. Even if we tend to research topics and claims within this episode contain a bit of extra of it. We will digg down into claims that Nazi Germany had contact with or built their advanced weaponry upon lost alien technology. The ideas that on the surface seem to be just loony and a bit out there did contain a quite dark history that the History Channel seems to have been ignoring.
Most of the show is built upon the ideas of Neo-Nazis, original nazis, spiritual sources and missinformation. Strong claims but my research is going in that direction. To back this up I’ve added my sources and also a transcription of the show. If you know people who don’t listen to podcasts they can read it instead. All the sources used and transcript can be found at our website diggingupancientaliens.com.
Just a brief CW, it is an episode that focuses heavily on the second world war. We don’t go into any details but we mention executions, suicide and the horrors of world war two.

Tue, 12 Jul 2022 - 1h 11min - 11 - Aliens, swans and Odin with the Drunk Mythology Gals
Our host Fredrik continues the mission to discover what is genuine, fake, and somewhere in between on the TV-show Ancient Aliens. In this episode we will break down episode two from season two (Ancient Aliens S02E02) called “Gods and Aliens”. It originally aired in November 2010.
This is an episode that will bring us to the warm sun in Greece to visit the ancient gods up on Mount Olympus. We will travel more north and to the great halls of Odin and Thor. Could these mythological gods really be aliens in disguise? To help us sort these theories out properly we had to go big and slightly inebriated. Joining us this week is Cait and other Jenn from “Drunk Mythology Gals”.
We take a deep dive into the mythology of aliens and the theories that Zeus and Odin are the same person. That Apollo might be the better evidence of extra-terrestrial teachers and we go back to the Carnac stones yet again to explore their mysteries. We also go through the story of the Lovelock giants and the pottery shard that some claimed had “Goliath” written on it.
If you want to hear more from the Drunk Mythology gals they have a website at drunkmythologygals.com, a facebook page, instagram page and even a twitter page. If you want to email them I must prepare you that the answering times might be a tiny bit long.

Tue, 24 May 2022 - 11min - 7 - Alien Devastations with Eric McLaren - Religious Wars
400 000 years ago, a bright light travelled across the African plain. Was this the origin of the human race?
2010, Iceland. A volcano is having an eruption that grinds air traffic to a halt. Could this event have been triggered by sinister forces?

Our host Fredrik continues the mission to discover what is genuine, fake, and somewhere in between on the TV-show Ancient Aliens. In this episode we’re going to look closer about the claims about aliens being behind many of the disasters that happen around the globe. Both in the ancient past and in the present day. Why would the aliens want to get rid of us humans, are they trying to correct a mistake or something else?
To help us we’re getting some help from Eric McLaren who is usually running the podcast “Religious Wars”. He is joining in with his journalistic wit and revisiting Ancient Aliens after quite the hiatus. You can find his podcast Religious Wars on the website or of course in your favourite podcast player.

Tue, 22 Mar 2022 - 1h 07min - 2 - 10. Underwater worlds - Guest Teyha (for the love of history)
Do small statues found in Japan indicate that sushi, tea and kimonos originate from otherworldly beings.
Atlantis, according to Plato this mythic land would be outside the pillars of Heracles, but could he have been wrong?
Did aliens try to contact us in Japan by drifting ashore in a hollow boat in 1803 with a box some might say contained a super computer?
Our host Fredrik continues the mission to discover what is genuine, fake, and somewhere in between on the TV-show Ancient Aliens. In this episode we will start our journey into season 2 and an episode about underwater worlds. So put on that scuba gear and let’s dive straight on to it.
We are joined this week by none other than Tehya (TK) from “For the love of history”. Podcaster by night, teacher by day and former Atlantis hunter. Her knowledge about Japanese history is amazing and she provides this episode with a lot of great knowledge nuggets.
If you want to hear more from Tehya you can find her podcast on Apple, Amazon, GooglePodcast or any other player. You can follow her on Instagram, twitteror check out her patreon. According to signals from outer space there might also be a website that you find right here.
We did talk about a painting in the episode and it did turn out to be an old school poster. Unfortunately it’s not within the public domain but it can be found hereif you are curious.
In this water themed episode we did cover these little topics:
Atlantis
Bermuda Triangle
Yonaguni monument
Utsuro-bune
Dogu figures
Jamon Culture
India's sunken cities
Lake Titicaca’s sunken temple
