- 226 - Ep 201: Bluesky Xodus, and Dodgy CV's
Melvin Odoom has pledged his love to Carol Vorderman from the Australian rainforest so Jemma and Marina leap at the chance to kick off the episode with something sweet.
The sweet quickly turns sour though when the Trawl ladies check in to see who Trump has appointed Education Secretary. Hold onto your hats, he might just have excelled himself.
Then, it's time for Marina and Jemma to pay tribute to the late, great, John Prescott and the clip they've chosen for you provokes a lot of thought from Jemma. In fact she woke up thinking about why the clip resonated so much.
Then, have you ever embellished the truth on your CV? This is what Rachel Reeves has been accused of doing by the opposition, only it's hard to find evidence she wasn't an economist at The Bank of England which is what they're suggesting. In fact, at The Trawl. Marina and Jemma have found a statement from someone who worked with her there, was in meetings with her and can confirm she definitely was. Could it be a brouhaha about very little? Is it Angela Rayner's council tax all over again? One thing's for sure, Rayner certainly isn't at all flustered in the clips from PMQ's
Meanwhile, people are leaving X in their thousands as it increasingly becomes a boring cesspit. It's Bluesky who are benefiting and Marina and Jemma are certainly enjoying the cleaner air and better spelling.

Fri, 22 Nov 2024 - 38min - 225 - Ep 200: Farmer Fury and Unlikely Heroes
It's the two hundredth Trawl! Jemma and Marina can hardly believe it and both recommend a couple of vintage eps to celebrate, as does editor Max.
Then, it's over to the States to see what health recommendations RFK Jr. is making. Hopefully they'll be less effective than the ones he made in Samoa where there was a huge outbreak of measles and subsequent deaths as a result of his vaccine scaremongering.
Then, along with hundreds of tractors, irate farmers and a smattering of Brexity types, to Westminster we go where the farming community have descended to protest against having to pay inheritance again, at a discounted rate. There is some sympathy for some farmers but, as far as Marina and Jemma are concerned, Jeremy Clarkson, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Farage can do one. They all either own acres and acres of tax dodging or caused the farming community endless pain and hassle due to Brexit. The irony is strong.
The Trawl ladies are very grateful to Vic Derbyshire for her incredible interview with farm poster boy, Clarkson. It really revealed so much.....none of it flattering. They're also left wondering how excited ex Tory MP, Neil Parish, must be. All those tractors! Fwarrrr.
As ever there are under rated tweets and a pudding
Marina's vintage Ep choice:

Jemma's vintage Ep choice:

Wed, 20 Nov 2024 - 37min - 224 - Ep 199: Trump's team of terror, Jeremy Clarkson & Maccabi Tel Aviv
It's not even been two weeks since the US election and already some in the US will be feeling that buyers' remorse, with even Trump himself receiving a little shock from Russia (not with love) to remind him exactly who's in charge.
Jemma and Marina digest some of Trump's latest Government appointments, which are as wild as they are dangerous, with one tweeter saying "it's like Donald Trump appointing the Grinch as Director of the Department of Christmas".
Then it's back to Blighty and an absolute howler from GB News in their coverage of the two minute silence for Remembrance Sunday before discussing Jeremy Clarkson's new role as the farmers' hero. Funny how when a celeb like Clarkson gets involved in politics, it's all good - and yet when it's someone like Gary Lineker, he should stick to football. Which takes us to the news of Gary's departure from Match of the Day and a clip that thankfully never got aired, otherwise he might have left sooner...
Finally, Jemma and Marina discuss the media and political gaslighting over the events in Amsterdam and clashes with Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv fans, before some Royal-related underrated tweets and a pudding from Billy Eilish that sent Marina's spine tingling.

Thu, 14 Nov 2024 - 37min - 223 - The Trawl Meets: Rosie Holt & Rosie Holt MP
In this episode of The Trawl Meets, Jemma and Marina meet someone best known for her incredibly convincing parody videos of a desperately loyal Tory MP shamelessly defending the latest Government scandal... The one and only, Rosie Holt.
Jemma and Marina talk to the award-winning satirist about her journey into comedy and the twist of fate that saw her become an overnight sensation.
There's talk and clips of her alter ego, Harriet Langley-Swindon, who bears an uncanny likeness to a certain Julia Hartley-Brewer and discuss how her comedy has changed now it's Tories out and Labour in.
Then comes the second half of the episode, where Rosie Holt MP makes an appearance and is quizzed about the real reasons for her crossing the floor from Conservative to Labour, whether she still backs Brexit and how she can look her constituents in the eye.
Needless to say, Jemma and Marina were not impressed.
You can catch Rosie over on Instagram at @rosieisaholt and grab a copy of her new book from Rosie Holt MP named: Why we were right here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Why-Were-Right-Rosie-Holt/dp/1529924553

Wed, 13 Nov 2024 - 37min - 222 - Ep 198: THE TRUMP TRAWL
It was always going to be a long episode, because let's face facts... You can't cover the dawn of a new fascism in half an hour.
Jemma and Marina get straight into it - and there's absolutely no shying away from the fact that not only did Trump win, but he won 'bigly'.
The Trawl ladies share their experience of the election night, and how a party which started out hopeful and jubilant ended up being anything but. There's a period of reflection on how so many could get the result so wrong and an incredible clip from Jon Stewart that highlights how maybe we know nothing at all. They also share the raw emotion they felt, how they coped with the news and how they try to make sense of the world around them.
There are some moments of lightness where the dominance of US politics on the rest of the world is discussed - like why the hell should we care about Maricopa County (?) and a musical interlude that reflects exactly how so many of us will be feeling.
Cautiously, Jemma and Marina look ahead to what may be coming down the tracks as the first convicted felon becomes president and what this means for all those who will be directly and indirectly affected - whether they knew it or not.

Fri, 08 Nov 2024 - 55min - 221 - Ep 197: Royal Millions - Dispatches Unpacked
Prior to this episode, Jemma had mainly associated the word 'Duchy' with Musical Youth, the band from the 80's who used to pass it on the left hand side. Since delving into the C4 Dispatches 'The King, The Prince and Their Secret Millions' she's had to catch up pretty quickly.
Marina feels a mixture of vindicated and furious and neither of the Trawl ladies can get their heads around charging high rents to charities you're patrons of, owning sea-beds and being an advocate for the climate issues when your own properties aren't insulated properly. There's a lot to discuss.
After hearing a vintage clip of Robert Smith, lead singer of The Cure, Marina's a huge fan..

Thu, 07 Nov 2024 - 33min - 220 - Ep 196: Kemi Badenoch and her Shadowy Kabinet
Recorded pre US election, this episode begins with tributes to two greats who died this week. Music producer, Quincy Jones and comedian, Janey Godley, who famously detested Trump. There is a wonderful clip made by BBC Scotland News which encapsulates her beautifully. Quincy Jones is 'pudding' and we learn what the greatest advice he ever heard was.
The main focus of this episode is the latest anointing of a new Tory leader. Kemi Badenoch has beaten Robert Jenrick and is the first black woman in the role. Jemma and Marina are interested to find out what a Nigerian politics show are making of it. Meanwhile, Badenoch isn't exactly covering herself with glory on the Laura Kuenssberg show. Partygate? Overblown. Really?
As for her cabinet, the words 'barrel' and 'scraping' spring to mind.

Wed, 06 Nov 2024 - 33min - 219 - Ep 195: Budget Beef and Scary News Drop
It's Halloween week and the prospect of Trump getting in is certainly spooking Jemma and Marina. The floods in Spain are pretty damn terrifying too, as is the news from other parts of the world, including of course, the situation in the Middle East. However, the Trawl ladies are not ones for sticking their hands in the sand or their fingers in their ears though are still able to laugh about a few things, including what Jemma is reminded of every time she hears the words 'carbon capture.'
Of course there is plenty of budget chat, which might not get everyone going but certainly enthralls Beth Rigby. So much so that there ends up following some quite bizarre political entendres. Then, find out what Marina and Jemma make of the main talking points of Rachel Reeves' first budget and of course hear some interesting tweets. Though perhaps avoid Liz Truss' riveting analysis if you can, although Jacob Rees Mogg was delighted to have the economy wrecking former PM on his show to rake it all over and to pontificate. Cool.
This episode contains some excellent under rated tweets, a Trump themed pudding and the type of political analysis you're incredibly unlikely to hear anywhere else.

Fri, 01 Nov 2024 - 45min - 218 - Ep 194: Trump's racist rally and Tommy Tosspot gets prison time
It's tough consuming the news at the moment, which is why positive news stories should be celebrated - like Tommy Robinson being sentenced to 18 months in prison. Wahey!
But all is not so joyous over in The US, in fact, it's pretty terrifying following Trump's latest rally in Madison Square Garden which included a speech so grotesque, that it convinced Ricky Martin and JLo to publicly endorse the opposition, and could cost the Trump campaign dearly.
Jemma and Marina discuss what it is that billionaires like Musk are searching for and how others, specifically Bezos, are choosing to protect their own vested interests as opposed to doing what is right.
Still on the US, Marina shares an anecdote from a discussion with her brother-in-law that got her triggered and then it's onto a clip from pro-Trump agitator Tucker Carlson that will likely trigger you all - apologies in advance.
With too much US drama dominating the episode, Jemma goes rogue with some off-piste underrated tweets to make you smile topped off with pudding from The Marsh Family: their very own US-election inspired song named, Bohemiam Trumpsody.

Wed, 30 Oct 2024 - 41min - 217 - Ep 193: Jenrick v Badenoch, a heckled king & Liam Payne
It's not everyday that the King gets heckled, but when he and Camilla turned up to Parliament House in Canberra, that's precisely what happened - with the twist being that the heckler was elected to their position, but the hecklee was not!
Then it's onto the tragic news of One Direction star, Liam Payne's passing. Jemma and Marina discuss the impact of so much fame so young and share personal stories of where they've witnessed fame not being all it's cracked up to be. Then it's onto someone who wasn't handling the tragic news as sensitively, and that's Ben Leo from GB News. And you know it was bad when his co-host Nana Akua managed to interject and appear to hold the moral high ground.
Next up is the update on ever tinier Little England with a right-leaning (and despairingly even left-leaning) media who seem intent on making mountains out of molehills, all while the Tory leadership race between Badenoch and Jenrick limps on - and then there's that weird AF tweet from Sky' Kay Burley about David Cameron. Pass the vom bag.

Fri, 25 Oct 2024 - 41min - 216 - Ep 192: Johnson’s Book and Trump’s New Gig - Would you like lies with that?
Johnson has been busy promoting his latest tome so the Trawl ladies thought they’d give you an update on how it’s doing.
Then, Jemma and Marina are astounded by the flagrant voter manipulation which is occurring in the States. There’s a clip you’ll hardly believe. Brexit certainly wasn’t the only moment where ‘Dividing and Conquering’ was the MO. People are also divided when it comes to seeing Trump donning an apron to work in Macdonalds.
On a personal note, Jemma is feeling sad about a tree. Is the pointless destroying of a healthy tree symbolic of what the world is going through? Or is she just going round the bend? Marina is on the fence. Unlike the tree because it’s been cut down.
As ever there are some fabulous under rated tweets.

Wed, 23 Oct 2024 - 40min - 215 - The Trawl Meets: Rosie Jones
Jemma and Marina are thrilled to learn that comedian and writer, Rosie Jones has been a Trawler from the beginning! They discuss who her comedy heroes are, how she started in the business and why she’s finally left Twitter.
With 150K followers on Instagram, Rosie has legions of fans who adore her outspoken, warm brand of humour but that doesn’t stop the trolls abusing her and attacking her for being disabled. Rosie opens up about how that feels, how she’s trying her best to represent 24% of the population and what she’s doing to encourage greater representation.
A clip from the Jimmy Kimmel show of ‘celebrities read mean tweets’ reminds Rosie, Marina and Jemma that no one is safe when it comes to having a large platform!
A great chat, peppered with lots of clips and a superb pudding from one of Rosie’s heroes - the incredible Victoria Wood.

Fri, 18 Oct 2024 - 54min - 214 - Ep 191: Trump’s Coachella Catastrophe
If you’re trying to sell yourself as a progressive, forward looking potential leader of a political party, perhaps don’t take a leaf out of Robert Jenrick’s book by celebrating Thatcher’s birthday with a countdown to the cutting of a cake….
Then Jemma and Marina discuss the latest Trump rally which he billed as Coachella but was more like the infamous Fyre festival due to the fact that the coaches were only booked one way. Cue MAGA chaos.
There are underrated tweets and some slightly delirious chat about salad dressing.

Wed, 16 Oct 2024 - 38min - 213 - Ep 190: His name was Shaban Ahmed. What is the world doing?
This is not your regular Trawl. Jemma and Marina have been consumed by the horrors unfolding in Gaza, and felt compelled to talk it through.
They discuss that horrifying flame-engulfed image that emerged after a hospital tent in Gaza was bombed by Israel - an image that may well become the defining image for this indelible stain in the story of humanity.
His name was Shaban Ahmed Al-Dalu, and like the thousands and thousands of other innocent men, women and children caught up in this barbaric conflict, he deserved to live.
Marina and Jemma discuss the failure of humanity to put a stop to this, the absence of grief from our news channels and politicians and the press coverage we're seeing that exposes the differing values placed on some lives versus others.
They discuss the Labour leadership stance - or rather, their deafening lack of one, the reason so many are too afraid to speak out and why we must never forget the needless lives lost in the pursuit of revenge that will only breed more hatred and violence.

Tue, 15 Oct 2024 - 39min - 212 - Ep 189: Cons Comms Fail, Musk and a Horse gets an OBE
Scrapping the Winter Fuel Allowance has been understandably controversial but, if Conservative HQ were trying to make people feel sad about it, they failed. If anything, by featuring people in their large houses, using coffee machines and wearing Rolexes, they gave people food for thought.
As you can imagine, the tweets are great....
Over in the States, Elon Musk has been attending Trump rallies and admitting to Tucker Carlson that if he doesn't win in November, he's screwed. An advert for Harris if ever there was one!

Fri, 11 Oct 2024 - 30min - 211 - Ep 188: Hurricane Milton, Sue Gray and Chagos Fury
The episode begins with some heart wrenching clips. Firstly we hear a weather report from a presenter who is audibly horrified by what he's having to tell people and then from a lady who is beyond angry that Ron DeSantis is choosing to politicise the disaster and appeals to her fellow Floridians.
Then, the reviews are in! Unleashed by Boris Johnson is being flogged on every platform he can get on (which is all of them sadly) but, despite him repeating the book title ad infinitum, all Marina and Jemma are interested in is his disgusting confession that he had no idea about Brexit. I mean, we all knew it, but good to hear it out loud, even if he doesn't care and isn't sorry.
The rest of the episode focuses on two issues the likes of The Mail and The Telegraph have been telling people to be livid about for days - Sue Gray and the Chagos Islands.
Jemma and Marina discuss how it points to a deeper problem - the power of the Right Wing media and why arguably Leveson 2 is so desperately needed.
The history behind the Chagos Islands certainly isn't being written about. Neither is the fact that the same outcome would have been required no matter who was in power.
But don't worry, The Trawl ladies have plenty of tweets which put you in the picture.
They finish with Under Rated Tweets of the week and pudding by Larry and Paul and Broken News.

Wed, 09 Oct 2024 - 39min - 210 - Ep 187: Laura K's Mare, P Diddy's Arrest and Trump Ramblings
Twitter (X) was on fire when Laura Kuenssberg announced that her exclusive interview with Johnson had had to be cancelled due to the fact she'd sent him her notes. Oops. How could this have happened? Jemma and Marina have their theories and some of the tweets are glorious.
Less glorious is ex Tory MP Jonathan Gullis' realisation that the teaching profession might not be willing to welcome him back with open arms after calling them Bolsheviks and commies and so on. Can't think why...
Then, The Trawl goes Stateside where P Diddy has been arrested and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. The allegations are truly shocking but not as shocking as it is for an Irish person to have to discuss what P Diddy might have done or be doing, as you'll hear in one of the clips.
As for Trump, his latest ramblings barely make sense. How long can such incoherent gibberish be ignored for by even the most ardent of Republicans?

Sat, 05 Oct 2024 - 37min - 209 - Ep 186: Tory Conference Clangers, Fishy Jenrick and Duffield Departs
This Trawl begins with a tribute to the late, great Dame Maggie Smith.
Then, Marina and Jemma discuss two prominent political figures who have decided their parties aren't for them after all. Labour's Rosie Duffield has become an independent (which raises questions in itself) and Baroness Sayeeda Warsi has left the conservative party, which means she can be more forthright than before which she certainly is about Jenrick.
Then it's off to Tory Party Conference where the mood is surprisingly buoyant given their recent thumping. The party members are all falling over themselves to proclaim which of the MPs running to be leader has got their vote. Despite saying maternity pay is 'excessive' Kemi Badenoch is getting the thumbs up from a lot of them and from many ministers too. Though does it count if it's from David Davis? Jemma and Marina are startled by quite a few of the things Kemi has said but not quite as startled as they were to hear about where Robert Jenrick got £75,000 from as a donation.
Truss has made an appearance to tell everyone (again) that she's simply misunderstood, that her ideas were all marvellous and that she should have been left in power to further wreck the economy. While Jacob Rees Mogg is on hand to tell us all why we shouldn't be saying 'Chair' instead of Chairman......plus, something about wolves, I think. Hard to tell.
There are underrated tweets of course, some of which involve Russell Brand baptising people in his under grundies.
Pudding is Will Sebag Montefiore

Fri, 04 Oct 2024 - 51min - 208 - Ep 185: Sausages & other conference calamites...
Only in Blighty would a one-word slip-up manage to dominate the news cycle... Yes, sausages. Marina and Jemma discuss the ongoing fallout and the concern that, of all things that went on at Labour conference, this appears to be one of the few stories that is landing.
Then it's onto a party conference of a very different kind, less political conference, more Phoenix Nights rehash - because the Reform Party Conference was all going off as well, in much the same way milk does. Then ladies hear from some breathtaking vox pops from those in attendance and mull over Lee Anderson's BBC license fee stunt.
Then it's on to some great underrated tweets from a Trump who STILL can't get over that debate, a James OB clip of him putting caller Roger firmly in his place and some discussion over the Starmer's son's GSCE study brouhaha.
Then, as journalists up and down the country suddenly appear to have learnt how to do journalism all at the same time and coincidentally at the same time as a Labour government, it's only right that the pod ends with a pudding from The Exploding Heads that is beautifully on point.

Fri, 27 Sep 2024 - 34min - 207 - Ep 184: Kemi transitions to working class & Labour facing questions...
Boris Johnson has been churning out his Daily Mail opinion pieces again, but this week the bloviating bell was even lazier than usual when we learnt he couldn't even be bothered to research the Bridget Jones plot line before putting out his casually sexist guff.
Then it's onto the ongoing Labour and Starmer drama which shows no signs of quelling. Jemma and Marina discuss the lazy comparison with the Tories, the disagreement with Owen Jones and the double standards of the media - but sadly arrive at the conclusion that there are some Labour stories emerging that are far more than serious than just bad optics.
Then it's onto BBC Laura K who it seems is looking forward to her romantic date/interview with Boris Johnson - and appears is the only one left who gives a toss what he has to say
Then it's onto the no-class-act, Kemi Badenoch, who this week displayed she knowns even less about anything than we thought she knew before, when she appeared to suggest her class status changed after a shift working at McDonalds. All finished off with the most cathartic of puddings, that may well have granted James O'Brien official national treasure status.

Wed, 25 Sep 2024 - 43min - 206 - Ep 183: Starmer donor drama & moaning millionaires...
Uh oh... We thought we were done with dodgy donor activity, but there are question marks over Keir Starmer's wife, Victoria being in receipt of some dresses from a very well-to-do Labour donor. Jemma and Marina discuss the terrible optics and nuance around the matter, while agreeing wholeheartedly that Tories coming out to try and claim the moral high-ground can ABSOLUTELY DO ONE.
The ladies move onto why we need a new system whereby our democracy isn't for sale to the highest bidder and discuss cases where one might need a new work wardrobe to be funded - cue Jemma's hideous dress story! And there's a clip from one MP who certainly would not accept any gifts of new apparel - no prizes for guessing who.
Then it's onto moaning millionaires, more specifically: Charlie Mullins (or Poundland Rod Stewart as he's also known) who founded Pimlico Plumbers. Poor Charlie is so devastated by Labour tax rises that haven't yet been announced, that he's taken to every media platform to complain and tell us he's leaving the UK - which begs the question: why is he still here?
The ladies chat about the argument that higher taxes for the wealthy will lead to brain drain, and discuss the actual impact this will have when experts have crunched the numbers. Newsflash: we'll be ok.

Sat, 21 Sep 2024 - 44min - 205 - Ep 182: I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT & other stateside craziness...
Yes, the internet can be an absolute cesspit at times, but it can also be a source of pure (Trawl) gold, as indeed it was thanks to the hilarious takes from the craziness going on stateside. You've got musical renditions of "they're eating the cats", a dramatic monologe and even a clip of The Simpsons, Chief Wiggum himself.
Jemma and Marina discuss the move from cats and dogs...to geese, and the impact that has been had on the community in Springfield, Ohio since Trump's running mate, JD Vance admitted he will "create stories" if needs be. WOW.
Then it's onto Trump publicly declaring his hate for pop star, Taylor Swift (as you do) and the dumbing down of our now global gutter politics and Trump's second assassination attempt - or was it?
Musk makes an appearance too, given he appeared to incite violence on his own platform and the ladies discuss Kamala's favourite swear word, as well as their own.
Finally, onto some underrated tweets of the week, including a howler in response to Tommy Robinson's new book, before finishing with a Trump flavoured pudding by The Kiffness that took the internet by storm.

Fri, 20 Sep 2024 - 44min - 204 - Ep 181: The Harrowing Gisele Pelicot Case, Love and More
The Trawl ladies are in a romantic mood at the top of this episode. 83 year old, Nan Schiff's dating life has inspired Jemma and Marina is very much enjoying excerpts from Diane Abbott's book which details her relationship with Jeremy Corbyn. Where did they go for their first date? The cinema? For dinner? Casual trip to a graveyard?
Then Marina and Jemma are compelled to discuss at length the horrifying Gisele Pelicot case which is currently going through the courts in France. There is a trigger warning on this part of the pod as it's a very harrowing and distressing case.
What should happen going forward? What needs to change in order to prevent this type of depraved criminality?
After that very serious topic, there's a bit of a gear change as the latest bit of Daily Mail outrage is looked at and it's time for under rated tweets

Wed, 18 Sep 2024 - 34min - 203 - The Trawl Meets: Jovan Owusu-Nepaul
Jovan stood against Nigel Farage in the last election as the candidate for Labour and sadly lost. At twenty seven years old he's the antithesis of Farage in every way and would certainly have gone about things differently had he won. He would have spent lots of his time in Clacton for instance. But, it wasn't to be and, as Jemma points out, the whole episode will be difficult for right minded voters in Clacton to listen to because the man is an inspiration, a force for good and passionate about affecting change for all the right reasons.
Find out what happened on doorsteps as he campaigned, what his encounters with Farage were like and where he buys his clothes which have even caught the eye of GQ.
Plus, Marina has a prediction. You heard it here first!
Enjoy!

Mon, 16 Sep 2024 - 39min - 202 - Ep 180: Trump v Harris Debate and Winter Fuel Row
The Mail are OUTRAGED... again. They're outraged about something so mild (vegan cafes), Jemma and Marina decide to bring up somethings which are actually enraging. For instance, Vance thinks staying in abusive relationships is the right thing to do... the Trawl ladies don't agree.
They spend some time discussing Labour's decision to take away the winter fuel allowance against a backdrop of never ending revelations regarding Covid corruption which simply keep on coming. The public have been fleeced - but why should pensioners suffer? Or anyone else for that matter, as energy companies and water companies keep raking in huge profits.
And then it's onto THE debate - Trump v Harris gleaned plenty of Trawl gold. Migrants eating pets anyone?
How did they do? Has Taylor Swift's endorsement made a difference? Which were the best soundbites? It's all in this packed Trawl.
Fri, 13 Sep 2024 - 39min - 201 - Ep 179: Trumpy Rantings and Vance Vagaries
Summer's over and the Trawl ladies start this pod with some inspiring chat about how to cope with the shorter days. Let's get fat and sassy everybody!
Then they hop over to the States because there's a lot of pre Trump Harris debate to cover which frankly is Trawl gold. Though one of the revelations about Trump's washing habits is pretty stinky - oh dear, or should that be odour.
The Donald is lashing out all over the shop, his tweets are all in CAPS and apparently Harris is an illegal alien. Okaaaa. Still, has he finally admitted that he did lose the election?
Meanwhile, Fox are also on the brink. They've got a lot to say about the fact Tim Walz once drunk a milkshake with a straw which apparently is not masculine. Jemma and Marina wonder what is a masculine way to drink a shake. The mind boggles.
In the pre election build up, Trump and Vance are light on policy but heavy on waffle. For instance, Vance thinks the answer to childcare being so unaffordable is to just get your family to do it.... so that's that solved.
There's a lot of stuff to plough through, much of it toe curling, all of it Trawl worthy.

Wed, 11 Sep 2024 - 36min - 200 - Ep 178: Noasis Tickets, Thatcher Portrait & Royal Pay Rises
Did you get tickets for Oasis? No, nor did Jemma. And at over £350 a pop, she's gone right off the idea. The ladies open on the dynamic pricing uproar surrounding the ticket sales and find a tweet from Liam Gallagher that aged like milk.
Then it's onto the outrage that was reported by the Daily Mail after Starmer removed Thatcher's portrait from his new home - quite who was outraged, perhaps we'll never know, and Larry the Cat's milk appears to have gone missing.
Next, King Charles is getting a pay rise - good for him! (if you're a deferential serf that think's it's totally cool for one person to own the entire seabed) The ladies discuss rising inequality and what would happen if aliens were to stumble on the rather odd way we've ended up arranging our planet's finances.

Fri, 06 Sep 2024 - 31min - 199 - Ep 177: Crazy McVey tweet and Rayner Outrage
Labour are considering a ban on smoking outdoors which the hospitality industry are understandably concerned about. Esther McVey however, posted a response which managed to be, not just incredibly stupid and disproportionate and offensive too. Well done, you've won gold in the wally Olympics. Dorries has been in the running too because Johnson's biggest cheerleader is not happy that Rayner...danced...on holiday.
Marina and Jemma unpack the outrage, dissect the responses but talk seriously too about the partial ban on arms to Israel which is far higher on their list of things to be concerned about.

Wed, 04 Sep 2024 - 36min - 198 - Ep 176: Oasis, Starmer and Sven
Oasis are back! The nation are mad for it. Jemma and Marina discuss the frenzy of excitement around the announced Oasis reunion and there are clips galore including the iconic one starring Kathy Burke.
Then its to the Rose Garden where Keir Starmer has made a speech. Is it a little bit thorny or are we smelling of roses? The jury is out until the October budget, but it's not looking massively optimistic.
We then pay tribute to football manager Sven Goran Eriksson followed byEp 176 a multitude of wonderful underrated tweets before finishing off with a triumphant pudding by Munya Chawawa.

Fri, 30 Aug 2024 - 41min - 197 - Ep 175: Trump, Tate and Jenas - limerick anyone?
The Trawl is back! The Trawl ladies are full of energy and ready to dissect all the latest bellendery - and there’s a lot….
Footballer and presenter, Jermaine Jenas, has been inspiring limericks with his online behaviour and Andrew Tate is in Romania on charges for multiple horrific crimes.
Talking of felons, we then cross over to the States where Trump is falling apart before our eyes and in our ears. Hear the shoutiest, weirdest soundbite so far.
Marina and Jemma are so happy to be back. There are under rated tweets, laughs, a smattering of despair and a moment which requires us to imagine what Queen Elizabeth would have made of ‘the Donald’. Spoiler - Jemma and Marina are pretty convinced she’d have found him awful.

Wed, 21 Aug 2024 - 42min - 195 - Ep 174: Musk, Trump and the kangaroo hop
This week's pod opens with a chuffed and excited Marina, who realised that she has what it takes to be an Olympian - or more specifically, an Australian breakdancing Olympian.
Marina and Jemma lament what X has become under Musk, who has been taking aim at the UK in his new self-appointed role of free speech hero of the people. Though, as the ladies discuss, Musk doesn't always practice what he preaches...
Liz Truss has been out-lettuced once again thanks to Led By Donkeys, and Musk is displaying all the maturity of a 10-year-old in his meme response to the EU's Digital Enforcer, who wrote an open letter reminding him that with a great platform, comes great responsibility.
Then it's over to the US for some Trawl gold, courtesy of Donald Trump who appears bigly confused, before an underrated clip of the week that will leaving you feeling all exotic and maybe even bilingual...

Wed, 14 Aug 2024 - 41min - 194 - Ep 173: Love wins, Kamala nails it and...pole vault.
The fallout from the riots continues, with Met Police Commissioner, Mark Rowley responding badly to a question on two-tier policing. Marina and Jemma discuss how this term came about and why the hell Elon Musk is adding to its use with his inevitably viral tweet: #TwoTierKier. Give the state of his X platform and what does/doesn't constitute a violation, he may want to look closer to home...
Then it's onto Tommy Robinson, who has been unable to understand the lack of sympathy after his hotel location was doxxed by the Daily Mail. Worry not, some wonderful people on social were very quick to let him know...
Jemma and Marina touch upon the heartbreaking turned heartwarming stories of Mohammad and Brendan who had their business and car destroyed, and the incredible power of the human spirit.
Speaking of which, the Olympics continues to dazzle, with a certain pole vaulter capturing the attention of many, and Kamala Harris may have picked herself the most fabulous running mate with an impressive track record and a sense of humour to boot...

Sat, 10 Aug 2024 - 50min - 193 - Ep 172: NIGE PREDICT A RIOT
It's been a tough old week for the country after days of violence on our streets by rioters - and no, they aren't pro-Britain marches or anti-immigration protests – they are rioters. End of.
Jemma and Marina discuss the road that got us here, and the pied pipers at the helm who are now trying their best to distance themselves from the so called 'Farage riots' - yeah, good luck with that.
Then to the rioters themselves - who are stealing crocs, smashing up Greggs and chucking Lush bath bombs, all in the name of protecting our children, of course.
Elon Musk gets a mention given he now has a deep interest in UK politics and is seemingly happy to stir the pot and sow disinformation.
Jemma and Marina wrap up with some pertinent and powerful underrated tweets including one from Dr Gabor Matte, but the cherry on the cake is pudding, when Darren called into LBC and stole our hearts. Everyone. Be more Darren.

Fri, 09 Aug 2024 - 39min - 192 - The Trawl Meets: George Monbiot
Warning - this episode was recorded remotely and there are moments when George sounds like he’s in space. We apologise for the poor sound quality in those moments but he’s so worth listening to hopefully substance makes up for style
George Monbiot is a journalist, author, and environmental and political activist. He writes a regular column for The Guardian and has written several books.
In 2023 he went viral on Question Time having finally been asked back after a long hiatus. Jemma and Marina kick the episode off with that barnstorming clip when George let us know what he really thought about the Rwanda policy. Spoiler alert - he wasn’t keen.
The Trawl ladies are fascinated to learn about his time at Oxford university and why the culture wasn’t for him. He was there at the same time as some of the most infamous members of the Bullingdon Club…. say no more.
It goes without saying there’s climate conversation, politics chat and clips with a man Marina and Jemma could listen to all day.

Wed, 07 Aug 2024 - 46min - 191 - Ep 171: UK riots, Trump madness plus couches and dolphins...
With riots kicking off and more planned for the weekend, Jemma and Marina open with a chat about those who appear more than happy to stoke the flames and the media platforms that do nothing to put out the fires. Speaking of which, Elon Musk has been having online beef with his estranged child, and when he's not doing that he's sharing deepfake videos of Kamala Harris that threaten US democracy.
And US democracy is indeed at threat, especially given Trump's tacit admission that if people vote for him now, they won't have to vote again - red flag, anyone?! After a few clips of Trump managing to come across even weirder and more dense than usual, it's onto JD Vance and that couch rumour...
Then, brace yourself for one of the most bizarre underrated clips ever from Nick Ferrari's show on LBC. You might never look at Nutella the same way again...

Fri, 02 Aug 2024 - 42min - 190 - Ep 170: Black Holes and Olympic Games
Jemma and Marina felt they couldn't start this episode without mentioning the tragic events in Southport. Three little girls have been murdered and many more children, carers and police officers have been injured. Yet, as Southport grieves and tries to process the atrocity, certain people on the far right have deemed it appropriate to incite violence based on circulated misinformation - a dark day indeed.
Then the Trawl ladies look at the £22 billion black hole left by the Tories. Jeremy Hunt is neither prepared to apologise nor take any accountability - so whose fault is it and how can Labour claw back money for spending.
Then to Paris we go for Celine, drag queens, slow boats and drizzly weather. Was it a phenomenal success? Or a washout? Either way, Starmer was prepared. No plastic cagoule for him!
Pudding is from The Marsh Family and is a nod to the next episode which will be popping Stateside once more.

Wed, 31 Jul 2024 - 40min - 189 - Ep 169: Labour fallout & Stateside getting catty...
And the Republicans go after Kamala's...laugh?!
Kamala, Kahmaala, Kohmohla - Jemma and Marina open with a little lesson in how best to pronounce the name of the woman who is getting Republicans all hot under the collar over in the US.
But first, domestic issues - with a focus on the Labour rebellion that saw seven Labour MPs lose the whip after voting against the Government in regards to the much loathed two-child benefit cap. Might this fallout not be as black and white as it first seemed? Owen Jones certainly didn't seem to think so...
Then we cross state-side, where the VP-pick, JD Vance (or JD Sports as Jemma likes to call him as "he' a massive mug") has decided to insult swathes of the population by being insulting to "childless cat ladies". Then Jemma and Marina pour over our very own UK homegrown Trumpsters, like Russell Brand and Nigel Farage - thank goodness we have national treasures like Kathy Burke to tell it like it is!

Fri, 26 Jul 2024 - 45min - 188 - Ep 168: Biden Gone, Grifting USA and Tech Hell
Biden has stood down! But, before the Trawl ladies get to that, they want to discuss the Crowdstrike bug which hit Microsoft hard. People in offices were crossing their fingers Teams would go down too so they could leave early, some poor souls had their flights cancelled or experienced other huge inconveniences, others didn't even notice.
Then, it's off to the States where it's all happening. Or, not happening in Biden's case. President Biden will not be running against Trump and for the good of the party is endorsing Kamala Harris. There's plenty of reaction to trawl plus the embarrassment of Farage and Truss trying to be relevant and pretending they're part of the inner circle. Hilarious clips prove otherwise. Liz who?
Emily Maitlis gives an interviewing masterclass and you won't believe what someone who owns 19 air rifles does for a living.
Stuffed with clips galore this is a digest which will make you concur with one of the Under Rated Tweets by Labour MP Chris Bryant who said There are many flaws in the UK constitution but the fact that we can change the party of government in the twinkling of an eye with minimal fuss and without preposterous claims of a stolen election is a pearl of great price. Some countries take months, we take hours

Mon, 22 Jul 2024 - 56min - 187 - EP 167: Labour highs & lows & Cameo grifting
This episode starts with a sobering chat about the recent murder of Carol, Louise and Hannah Hunt. The three women were killed brutally leaving a sister and father behind. Marina and Jemma ponder the fact that a woman is killed by a man, in her own home, every three days. A shocking statistic which surely requires immediate attention.
Then the talk turns to Labour and the good and bad things they’ve been up to this week. Wes Streeting banning puberty blockers provokes a discussion as does the picture of Lammy shaking hands with Netanyahu.
Meanwhile, Farage is selling himself on Cameo which leads to a clip Jemma insists on playing for context, despite the fact Marina has serious reservations about its suitability!

Football isn’t coming home - again. So where are we on Southgate? Is he a legend? Or a roaring disappointment?
And then, where were you when you found out that someone tried to assassinate Trump?
Marina and Jemma delve into what this shocking news might mean. Does it mean the election is in the bag for the Republican Party?
And who is JD Vance and why is his appointment as Vice President so depressing if not surprising?
Then it’s under rated tweets. Cilla’s gone international!

Wed, 17 Jul 2024 - 39min - 185 - Ep 165: Starmer's Cabinet and Right Wing Meltdowns
Labour are off the starting blocks and at quite a pace. Jemma and Marina discuss everything that's happened since the Labour government got into power which, in a nutshell, is more than the Tories have achieved in 14 years. Inspired appointments include putting James Timpson in charge of prisons, Miliband in charge of climate and a Minister for Education who respects teachers. What are the chances?
It might well be a honeymoon period but the Trawl ladies will take it for as long as it lasts. Over in France there's been a result and a half too the French fascists are almost as upset as they are about a Labour win over at GB News and The Telegraph. There they're having a full blown meltdown as is Camilla Tominey who features in Under Rated Tweets of the week.

Fri, 12 Jul 2024 - 55min - 184 - Ep 164: Election Night - the highs, the lows and all the funny bits
The first Trawl under a Labour government is here! Jemma and Marina relive the high and low lights from 4th July, particularly enjoying the dynamic between Alastair Campbell and Nadine Dorries on Channel 4 and Andrew Marr's sign off to Mogg. They also say goodbye to some big Tory scalps, wonder at some of the ones remaining and discuss the results and the complex issue of PR. After all, in reality, Reform should have won a great deal more MP's than they did.
Then there's time to hear a few words from an AI generated version on Gareth Southgate plus one of the best Under Rated Clips which stars Captain Wes Streeting who really commits to a ship analogy which gets so out of control, the ship in question could well be The Titanic.

Wed, 10 Jul 2024 - 59min - 183 - The Trawl Meets: Jess Phillips
Jemma and Marina were thrilled when Labour MP, Jess Phillips, agreed to take time out of her mad diary for a proper chinwag.
The Trawl ladies were fascinated to know how it feels being a female MP during such febrile times and found out what motivates her to keep going. At time of record, Rishi Sunak, hadn't surprised everyone by calling the election so unexpectedly early but Labour were in election mode nonetheless, and Marina and Jemma took the opportunity to find out what Jess makes of Natalie Elphicke's defection from the Tory party and, how it felt when she quit the front bench in 2023 over Keir Starmer's stance on Gaza, after voting in the Commons for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
They discuss the work she does in her role as Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding, and her podcast with Beth Rigby and Ruth Davidson, Electoral Dysfunction and ask the question everyone wants answered - will Labour become more 'left' if/when they get into power.

Fri, 05 Jul 2024 - 55min - 182 - Ep 163: The One before the Election and Glasto Outrage
As Independence Day (from the Tories) looms, Jemma and Marina have gone bumper with this extra long Trawl. They start with a footy update and then dive into the post match analysis of... Glastonbury. Why do all the right-wing bell-ends get so triggered by it? What is it about the musical, magical, cultural playground that annoys them so much?
Then, it's into politics we go with a quick round of 'what are the Tories lying about now?' and a look at the desperate lengths The Telegraph are going to to persuade you that Labour equals Armageddon.
Still, if you think things here are bad, wait till you hear the clips of Biden and Trump trying to string sentences together, It's disturbing to say the least.
And, with one day to go before we get to place our crosses in the ballot box, the rest of the ep is dedicated to remembering why it's s important we don't feel complacent, that we vote and that we make our vote count.
Good luck Trawlers - can't wait to meet again soon for all the best takes, for a look back and indeed a look forward.

Wed, 03 Jul 2024 - 1h 03min - 181 - Ep 162: Safe Southgate, Fascey-Farage and what the hell is a supermajority?
England are top of the group in the Euros, two clean sheets, and unbeaten - so why aren't we all ecstatic? Jemma and Marina discuss some of the best reactions to Southgate's 'safe' approach with a self-deprecating treat from Danny Dyer.
Then from football to fascism, as the ladies visit the latest public soilings from the man who just makes it up as he goes along - Nigel Farage. They discuss his dodgy as hell position on Russia and you won't believe who has been offering their support to Mr Farage on his X account...all the way from the Kremlin!
Then it's onto the Tories who have spent the last week trying to convince everyone that a supermajority is a thing - it ain't.
Then some superb underrated tweets and clips with an absolute belter via the grandson of Churchill and a brief mention of The Telegraph who appear to be losing their minds more so than usual.
Finally, a superb and heart-warming monologue from comedian John Oliver inspires Marina to do her very own election call-to-arms.
All wrapped up with a football-themed from Paddy Power.

Fri, 28 Jun 2024 - 38min - 180 - Ep 161: Tetchy Sunak, Tory Bets and an Army Spat
This episode kicks off with a look at how Starmer and Sunak did on the recent Question Time. We're not saying it went badly for Sunak but the PM was booed very loudly at the end so...
And then Jemma and Marina decide to have a flutter. They bet that the Tories will cheat and lie their way right up to the election and it looks like they're both set to win because the latest scandal to hit the beleaguered party is 'fluttergate'. Wrongdoing has been admitted by AI generated Tory, Craig Williams, and yet Sunak chose to do nothing apart from put on an 'I'm angry face' for days on end. Still, he got there in the end.
And then it's off to Plymouth to trawl through what Johnny Mercer has accused his Labour opponent, Fred Thomas, of. Warning - it's not dignified.
The ladies finish with Under Rated Tweets as per and an invitation to a party.

Wed, 26 Jun 2024 - 46min - 179 - Ep 160: Farage Exposed and AI Patriotism
Depressingly, this episode mainly reflects what's dominating the news, the headlines and indeed social media and, it's Farage. The man is everywhere, like a stain you simply can't get rid off, partly because Sunak et al have pandered to him for years.
Marina and Jemma delve into how quite long he's been disrupting from the side-lines with some extraordinary clips to illustrate. Meanwhile, the Reform manifesto (contract) has been announced and it's holier than a piece of Emmental - fiscal black holes all over the shop. So why do people buy it? With so many people turning to Reform it warrants discussion and means no one is entirely sure who the real opposition will be post election.
Then we look at the latest spat of strange AI images created for 'patriotic' reasons by right -wingers though the Trawl ladies think it might be a case of 'too much time on their hands.' They've mainly been inspired by the Trooping of The Colour and Alison Pearson might have had the worst take of all.
Some great under rated tweets and clips finish off the ep and pudding is superb and very fitting and is by Larry and Paul and the Broken News team. Enjoy!

Wed, 19 Jun 2024 - 45min - 178 - Ep 159: Did they really say that? Campaign travesties, lots of laughs and Macron's gamble
What would you do if you saw Boris Johnson coming out of a bush? It's a startling sight but it could happen if he happens to be promoting one of his columns for The Mail. As for his sister, she definitely won't be in a Lidl but might be in a Sainsbury's, you'll know why when you hear the clip.
Then we head to the campaign trail for 'The Election Section' and Beth Rigby is the latest presenter to have grilled Sunak and Starmer. Starmer may have done better in that arena but neither are covering themselves in glory with the public. One laughs at a doctor, the other has a tone deaf response to a child's story. Still, not much beats the reception, Esther Macvey got when she made some wild claim about her party.
Then to France we go and this is where it becomes apparent that Jemma might have had a night on the tiles and be feeling a little 'fragile' during record. Her French accent is more Del Boy than Del Boy's as Marina points out. Why has Macron called an election? What happened in the EU Parliament elections and why can't Jemma pronounce the word 'effortlessly.' There may be a few laughs in this ep
Then some truly staggeringly bad takes and a plethora of Under Rated Tweets.

Fri, 14 Jun 2024 - 47min - 177 - Ep 158: Sunak gaffes, Michael Mosley and Mordaunt's hair
Jemma and Marina barely know where to begin. The Trawl content is simply relentless as the campaign trail continues. However, it seems to makes sense to start with the recently announced Tory manifesto and go from there. The hitting the skids type jokes write themselves. Then it's on to Sunak's latest set of gaffes and the heart-wrenching discovery that he didn't have Sky. The poor widdums, how did he cope?
Then it's a rewind as we go back to the debate which featured a member from each of the main parties. It's a good opportunity to hear from Carla Denyer from the Green Party and SNP leader, Stephen Flynn. There's a whole section dedicated to Penny Mordaunt's hair which was truly incredible, for all the wrong reasons.
Marina and Jemma are blown away by quite how empty Nigel Farage's policies are when scrutinised and a plea to the people of Clacton to vote for the young Labour candidate who Marina spoke to on the phone.
There's a tribute to TV Doctor Michael Mosley and the Trawl ladies feel compelled to mention the ongoing situation in Israel and Palestine. Then it's onto the underrated clips and tweets of the week which are gold. The clip of a Reform candidate talking about why the airport made him go into politics will have you scratching your heads.
As ever, The Trawl ladies don't hold back. What a time to be alive!

Thu, 13 Jun 2024 - 49min - 176 - Ep 157: D-Day Calamity, Tax Lies and an Ed Davey love-in
Jemma and Marina are very excited because in this ep, they are starting off with an actual scoop! Rare on The Trawl but stranger things have happened and we wonder if you'll think it demonstrates what Sunak is really like, and that's before we've even started on his D-Day gaffe.
Then, the Trawl ladies hear the figure £2000 bandied about any more their heads might explode. Yes, despite Sunak's claims having been called out as the lies they are, his henchman are still pedalling untruths every chance they get. Marina and Jemma unpack the fallout from the ITV debate and one clip, where Starmer and Sunak debate leaving the ECHR, feels particularly poignant given that this week was the week we remembered the fallen during the 80th D-Day memorial.
World leaders gathered to pay their respects on a day when politics should surely be put aside. You'd think that would be obvious but not to Sunak who 'popped in' to show his face then naffed off back to Britain to go on telly to slander Starmer some more. His own party are horrified and Marina and Jemma don't exactly hold back either.
Ed Davey gets his own section in this ep and the contrast between him and Sunak could not be more stark. One is a sentient human being, the other left the D-Day memorial service to dash back for some PR. Stay classy Sunak!
Some fantastic Under rated clips and tweets wrap this one up along with a pudding by Politics Joe.

Fri, 07 Jun 2024 - 54min - 175 - Ep 156: Farage fallout, campaigning chaos & Trump's fan club
It's over the pond we go to see what cheesy wotsit toddler, Trump has been up to... which is being found guilty on 34 counts. The ladies discuss those who leapt to his defence and the common thread that runs through them before finishing with a Trump sandwich: white bread, full of baloney, Russian dressing and a small pickle.
And while Boris Johnson is still firmly attached to Trump’s bottom, Nigel Farage has chosen to unweld himself and bin off his plans to campaign for Trump in the US - lucky for the US, not so lucky for us. Jemma and Marina discuss what his running means for the election and enjoy some snippets of Farage not doing so well in the face of scrutiny.
There's talk of Labour highs and lows, Tories posing as Labour and charm lessons from Kemi Badenoch - who manages to appear rude, arrogant and affronted, all at once, in her latest media rounds.
Then it's on to some underrated clips and tweets, including a gem from writer, Michael Rosen, followed by a Trump-flavoured pud from Politics Joe.

Thu, 06 Jun 2024 - 41min - 174 - Ep 155: Labour's Purge, Conscription Chaos and Telegraph Tits
With the election looming, all the political parties are trying to grab headlines. The Tories want your children to sign up, whether they like it or not. If they don't want to do military service they'll be forced to volunteer their weekends, even if they need to be earning.
Rachel Johnson thinks it's a great idea because they could be forced to pick fruit. After all we don't have anyone else to do it due to her brother's Brexit. Yet despite the Tories best efforts to grab all the headlines by bribing pensioners and threatening conscription, Labour have managed to hog the limelight. What a shame it's for such terrible reasons. Starmer is busy blocking candidates from standing, including Diane Abbott.

Fri, 31 May 2024 - 48min - 173 - The Trawl Meets: James O'Brien
In this episode, Marina and Jemma meet the person who can, in large part be thanked (blamed?!) for turning their mild interest in politics into a passion - Mr Brexit himself: James O'Brien.
The LBC star, journalist and best-selling author of books including his latest, How They Broke Britain, for once finds himself on the opposite side of the interrogating questions. They hear about his leap to fame courtesy of Brexit and take a trip down memory lane with some caller clips that never get old. There's some quizzing on James' position on Labour and the looming election, and his surprising thoughts on Proportional Representation, which Marina and James agree to disagree on. Jacob Rees-Mogg gets a due hammering with some fascinating insight on the effect of public school on public servants, and James reluctantly names who, of those responsible for Britain's demise, he'd choose to go for dinner with - and the ladies coax out of him a hilarious, not-so-polite, run-in with Reform Party's Richard Tice.

Wed, 29 May 2024 - 02min - 171 - Ep 154: Election Fever - A brewery, The Titanic and some very Accidental Partridge
Election is GO! Marina and Jemma happened to be together when the news broke and enjoy sharing what happened next. Then, it's a look back at the most undignified election announcement of all time and what's happened since. The parties have hit the campaign trail running. Although the Tories are looking pretty desolate and have many seats to fill. Still, perhaps in a passive aggressive act of revenge, they've sent Sunak to a brewery in Wales so people can think 'piss up in' and left him talking to Welsh people about The Euros they didn't qualify for.
Richard Tice is out of the starting blocks too. Just a shame one of the Reform accounts has got the wrong date...only two days out. Vote Reform on July 6th.

Sat, 25 May 2024 - 49min - 170 - Ep 153: Vorder Force, Suella Silenced and an Unexpected Winner
This Ep was recorded the morning of the election announcement so the Trawl ladies are busy collating all the best reactions for the next episode. This one unpacks a strange week for Suella but before they get into that, they begin their trawl with a wonderful moment from Carol Vorderman who had the Joe Lycett audience whooping with delight.
The students at Cambridge were much quieter when GB News and Braverman turned up to ask them why they were protesting about Palestine. Words have power but sometimes, so does silence.
Although the guest she confronted in the GB News about the same topic, was gloriously outspoken and for once, it seems Suella didn’t have much to answer back with.
Then it’s onto some of the reaction from the same news outlet regarding Ofcom’s finding that their ‘Ask Rishi’ forum was impartial.
Lastly, Jemma and Marina discuss the fact that Jeremy Clarkson has been voted sexiest man by the female users of a certain dating site. The mind boggles.

Fri, 24 May 2024 - 37min - 169 - Ep 152: 4 Loose Women, 6 Pledges & 72 Genders
We love it when politics goes mainstream... And it did this week when Sunak and Starmer decided to appear on Loose Women and Sunday Brunch, respectively. Jemma and Marina discuss how they both fared, and why one of them went viral - probably because he tried to suggest he was fixing child poverty with an Online Safety Bill.
Next up are more culture wars as a result of the 72-gender myth which is resulting in new legislation, despite the only evidence of this being a thing coming from someone's next door neighbour's friend's sister's cat.
And you'll be glad to know that it's not just poverty that is spiraling in this country, but Sunak's and his wife's wealth too. Jemma and Marina discuss the growing inequality in the UK and elsewhere, and why soulless Sunak is the last person we need at the helm.
Finally, get your patio tables and parasols ready, because Al Fresco dining is about to hit the UK by storm thanks to a new Brexit benefit - apparently. Someone might need to tell Trade Secretary, Kemi Badenoch where the term Al Fresco originates from...

Wed, 22 May 2024 - 41min - 168 - Ep 151: Is Labour becoming a Tory bin?
Up is down, black is white and now... Blue is red! Because this week, the Labour Party welcomed Tory MP, Natalie Elphicke with open arms, which raised more than just a few eyebrows. Jemma and Marina discuss the mafioso-style tactics from the party of Government to keep defection to a minimum and revisit moments of joy where Tories tie themselves in knots by slating someone - who was one of theirs - until about 5 minutes ago.
Count Binface continues to prove he's the hero we never knew we needed, before the episode turns to the series that is sweeping the nation: Baby Reindeer.
Then, has everyone got their rainbow lanyards at the ready? Be careful the Minister for Common Sense doesn't whip it off you given her latest culture war hobbyhorse.

Fri, 17 May 2024 - 46min - 167 - Ep 150: The Politics of Eurovision - Israel, Palestine and Nul Points for the UK
Marina and Jemma start with a lookback at this year's Eurovision Song Contest and discuss why it was such a political hot potato this year. The UK entrant received a lot of criticism for not boycotting the event and the Israeli singer had unprecedented levels of security. All this makes the notion that it's 'just' a song contest and 'apolitical' for the birds. There's plenty of reaction and clips.
Due to the subject matter, it's a more serious Trawl than usual but as Israel carry out airstrikes in Eastern Rafah, after issuing orders for the evacuation of 100,000 Palestinians from part of the city, triggering an exodus of thousands of people, The Trawl ladies felt it was the right time to talk about it.

Wed, 15 May 2024 - 46min - 166 - Ep 149: Count Binface Triumphs - Susan Khan't Believe it
Having raked over the council elections in the last episode, Jemma and Marina spend this one dissecting the Mayoral results. It's a win for Andy Burnham, a loss for Andy Street, a win for Ben Houchen and, most thrillingly of all, a loss for Susan Hall. Susan, who spent her time campaigning telling Londoners that where they live is a hellscape of unparalleled proportions. Funnily enough, that strategy didn't work. In this Trawl, enjoy her entirely graceless speech and Khan's humorous one which references the biggest winner of all, Count Binface. The man who wanted to reduce the price of croissants and bring back Ceefax did very well and completely trounced the Britain First candidate who also suffered a huge bout of sour grapes. Fortunately, there was someone in the crowd to put him right.

Fri, 10 May 2024 - 35min - 165 - Ep 148: The Election Section
Jemma and Marina discuss what were a pleasingly catastrophic set of results for the Tories in the local elections and wonder why everyone knows that, apart from The Mail on Sunday. Oh, and Sunak......yes, the Prime Minister is still convinced his plan is working, despite the country trying desperately to tell him that it isn't. Meanwhile, Suella thinks she has the answer which is her answer for everything. Be More. Right. Wing. No thanks, Suella.
Meanwhile, on the Laura Kuenssberg show there are no Greens or Lib Dems in sight, despite their incredible gains, and despite the fact the Lib Dems gained more council seats than the Tories. The delusion is strong and yet of course, leader of Reform, Richard Tice, has had plenty to say even though they won a grand total of two seats. Yes, two. Not two hundred. Two. And which idiot, who should know better, forgot their ID and couldn't vote?
Marina and Jemma have trawled some of the juiciest reactions, there are plenty of clips and they haven't even started on the mayors yet, that's in the next episode.

Wed, 08 May 2024 - 36min - 164 - Ep 147: Keeping up with the Cameron...and his £42m private jet
Poor poor Lawrence Fox - literally.
The episode opens with the unfortunate news of Laurence Fox having to pay large sums in libel damages. Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke.
Then all aboard the private jet - that's right, Lord David Cameron's £42m private jet, which he hired for his latest jaunt as Foreign Secretary, with the bill being footed by us taxpayers. Just as well he can be questioned about this in the House of Commons...Oh.
Next stop is Question Time, and this week was Tory MP, Chris Philp's turn to make an utter tit of himself with geography skills as impressive as Dominic Raab's.
Jemma and Marina move on to talk about the latest round of performative cruelty with the Govt's announcement around disability and sickness reforms, and seek to reassure anyone listening with some words of advice from Money Saving Expert, Martin Lewis.
To finish on a lighter note, Jemma and Marina serve up a Victoria Sponge of an underrated tweet of the week with pudding from Larry & Paul.

Fri, 03 May 2024 - 35min - 163 - Ep 146: Squeaky-bum time for Sunak & 30p Lee fury
It's squeaky-bum time for our Prime Miniature Rishi Sunak this week...
Jemma and Marina open with a discussion around the many elections taking place this week that could see things go from bad to worse for Rishi Sunak. And please God, deliver us from Susan Hall becoming the new London Mayor.
Then, what's better: Twitter or X? The ladies discuss the worst rebrand of all time before moving on to an MP who this week rebranded himself from Tory blue, to Labour red. We're talking of course, about Dr Dan Poulter who has managed to find his principles so close to a general election - incredible coincidence.
30p Lee has been whinging again... this time about the banning of an old sitcom named Terry & June. Except it hasn't been banned at all. Not content with spouting nonsense about sitcoms, Lee moved on to spouting nonsense about Blackpool, resulting in Jemma and Marina having a good giggle about Lee's prehistoric vision of what he wants Britain to be. Spoiler: Get your headscarves and buckets out, ladies!
Then it's onto the resignation of Scotland's First Minister, Humza Yousaf, before a trigger warning discussion about Reform's Ben Habib and the shock remarks made about migrants drowning in the channel.
To end, Jemma and Marina serve up some epic underrated tweets and finish with another musical masterpiece from The Marsh Family.

Wed, 01 May 2024 - 47min - 162 - Ep 145: Sunak's Sick Note Britain & Ridiculous Honours
The episode opens with a visit to the US courtroom where strange noises and smells have reportedly been emitted from a somewhat sleepy Donald Trump...
Then it's onto the latest performative cruelty policy from the party of Government as they announce punitive reforms to sickness and disability benefits, because why would they sort out the collapse of our National Health Service, when they can simply scapegoat the people who need it?
Included is some context that shows we might not be quite the 'sick note culture' we're being made out to be, plus a throwback clip to when people complained that their GP appointments were given too soon!
Next, Jemma and Marina discuss a laughable headline from The Telegraph's Camilla Tominey. And from laughable news titles, to laughable Royal titles - because it appears King Charles has been busy dishing out a load more honours to his wife, bro and kids. If you thought The Order of the Thistle was bad, you ain't seen nothing yet...

Fri, 26 Apr 2024 - 37min - 161 - Ep 144: 3am Sleaze, Marathon Glory and Rwanda Shame
Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Claire Coutinho, has said that the Tory's have overshot all their targets.... without laughing....on National TV. This is such an outlandish claim, she almost deserves a medal but not as much as Chris Packham does for his outstanding performance on the Laura K show. And certainly not as much as everyone who ran the London Marathon does. Jemma and Marina enjoy some highlights and chat about what impressed and inspired them most about the annual, 26 mile, test of endurance. It won't surprise regular listeners to discover that Marina's favourite moment involved wine.
Then, the Trawl ladies rake over what happened at 3am one night when Tory MP, Mark Menzies, put in a phone call because he needed to pay off some 'bad people.'
Talking of bad people, Jemma and Marina are gutted that after many rounds of political ping pong, the Rwanda bill has finally been passed. A moment of national shame that ironically comes on the same week as St George's Day. But when does national pride become pure nationalism?

Marina and Jemma are thrilled to chat to activist and author of the No 1 Sunday Times Bestseller, The Trading Game, Gary Stevenson. They hear about his humble beginnings, his route to university and what it felt like to be Citibank's most successful trader. They're particularly fascinated by the reasons that at age 27, Gary eschewed his life in the city to start explaining why the system is rigged and profoundly unfair.
The Trawl ladies talk to him about wealth tax, being a 'patriotic millionaire' and who he thinks does speak sense.

Fri, 19 Apr 2024 - 51min - 159 - Ep 143: Trussterf**k & Petrified Non-Doms
Jemma and Marina open with an emotional appeal...For a group of people who feel petrified, forced to flee their homes against their will. They're talking of course, about... non-doms.
Then it's straight into the latest from Liz Truss' deluded book tour in which Jemma and Marina try to outdo each other with the worst clips of our former PM that they can find. They discuss Truss' latest bid to ditch the Supreme Court, leave the ECHR and her attempt to ditch The Equality Act - when she was equalities minister no less.
After a few more excerpts from her book, the ladies move onto satirical takes, which are harder to distinguish from reality than you'd first think.
The final segment has a good laugh at those on the right who are dabbling with Artificial Intelligence to show us what the world should look like according to them, and it isn't pretty - nor even vaguely plausible.
Then it's a pic n mix of delicious underrated tweets and clips, with a pudding from Larry and Paul about Prince Andrew.

Thu, 18 Apr 2024 - 39min - 158 - Ep 142: Laura K BBC Bias
Reform have had a fair few struggles with their vetting process but this week have surpassed even themselves by cancelling an inactive candidate who turned out to be.....dead. A pulse is probably necessary, even at Reform.
Then, it's time to look at the papers and, despite the prospect of WW3, The Mail are focusing on Angela Rayner and what she 'might' or might not owe in capital gains tax.
Jemma and Marina discuss how Laura Kuenssberg can't get enough of the story and pay tribute to writer, John O'Farrell's, glorious contribution to the show. They go on to discuss a topic the BBC won't be covering any time soon - it's BBC bias and what's happened to the News department since Tory donor, Robbie Gibb, was put in charge.
There follow masses of Under Rated Tweets and the Trawl ladies are definitely bias because they think they're very funny.

Wed, 17 Apr 2024 - 41min - 157 - Ep 141: Rwanda revelations & career advice from Ms Money-Coutts
Just when you thought the Glaswegian Wonka was the worst ever entertainment experience, along comes Nigel Farage with his 60th birthday party celebration...
Jemma and Marina discuss the bizarre goings-on from the bash and what one is supposed to do with a Farage-shaped ice luge.
Then it's onto the latest social calamity X post from the Govt of the second most powerful country in the world - or at least it was the most powerful country according to the Conservative's X account earlier in the week, but seemingly not by the end of the week, by which point they had deleted said post.
The Rwanda plan takes a hilarious new turn... turns out £500m doesn't just buy you no asylum seekers in Rwanda, but also no planes and no homes too. Terrific.
Need some career advice? Well, you're in luck. Telegraph columnist and granddaughter of Telegraph grandee, Sophia Money-Coutts (yes, that is her real name) has some advice for our lazy Gen Zs on how to hustle - just like she did.
After more hammering of our young, Jemma and Marina finish on some epic underrated tweets and an ECHR-flavoured pudding that reminds us how utterly insane it is that our unelected hedge fund manager PM is trying to drag us out of it.

Fri, 12 Apr 2024 - 48min - 156 - Ep 140: Forget Wragg, what about Rayner?
Financial advice from Sunak, anyone? Because that's what was offered by our PM in his latest comms disaster video put out by No.10. The ladies discuss the desperate attempts by the PM to shift public perception, as well as the very obvious flaw.
Then it's onto "courageous and fulsome" William Wragg - whose latest accolade includes being praised by the Chancellor of the Exchequer for sending photos of his meat and two veg to a perfect stranger on the internet before compromising his colleagues, some of which, went on to do the same. What a time to be alive!
But who cares about Wragg, or indeed the billions of pounds squandered, evaded or funnelled by Conservatives, because EVERYONE LOOK AT ANGELA RAYNER! Jemma and Marina discuss the crazed efforts of the right to try and make us angry about a potential £1.5k tax issue from a lady who sold her council house 9 years ago and wasn't even an MP at the time, with desperate Dan at The Mail on Sunday leading the charge.
Then it's onto some mispronunciations that may offend your ears, before a delightful pudding finisher from The Marsh Family.

Wed, 10 Apr 2024 - 46min - 155 - Ep 139: Merde Island - sewage spills and micro shorts
Tory MP for Uxbridge is campaigning hard for a fish and chip shop in the centre of Uxbridge, and that's despite refusing planning permission for one in 2019. Marina and Jemma rarely start an episode with their head in their hands but this time they do. And their despair isn't going away because this ep has sewage at it's heart and some dismal facts about how badly privatisation has failed us all.
Jemma tries to change the subject / lighten the mood with a series of tweets Marina is only half sure about.
Enjoy!

Fri, 05 Apr 2024 - 34min - 154 - Ep 138: Hot Cross Tories - an Easter Basket
Jemma and Marina kick off with a quick look at the latest MRP poll as reported in The Times, which doesn't read well for Sunak and Co. For some unknown reason, Rishi is still laughing however, as are the Question Time audience when Esther McVey is asked about her role as 'Minister of Common Sense.'
Though arguably X (formerly known as Twitter) could do with some sort of Common Sense Tsar because over Easter there was a lot of performative Christianity happening which was more sickening than overdoing the chocolate, frankly. Everywhere you looked Tories were outdoing themselves with their devout displays of worship - to the point where Liz Truss saw fit to stand outside a boarded up church clutching a live lamb that looked like it really wanted to escape. The Trawl ladies discuss the juxtaposition between supporting the Rwanda policy, wanting to criminalise the homeless and painting over murals to make refugee centres less welcoming, and being Christian. Interesting.
Meanwhile, just before the Easter break, Sunak sneaked out his latest list of people he wants to stuff into the Lords. Marina and Jemma inspect a few of them.
Easter themed Under rated Tweets and clips finish of the episode along with an Easter themed pudding.

Thu, 04 Apr 2024 - 42min - 153 - Ep 137: Gullis promoted, the £100k struggle & Owen Jones
It's another jam-packed pod... opening with furious reaction to Nike's England flag rebrand and some commentary from Marina which resulted in an Express news article dedicated just to her.
Then it's onto Owen Jones, who this week announced he was leaving the Labour party, to a very mixed reaction. Marina and Jemma explore their own thoughts and feelings on this, because despite the polling and the complacency - it ain't over till it's over.
Hunt gets his own section thanks to his tone-deaf comments about people in his constituency not getting by on £100k. Something has to have gone pretty wrong in an economy if you can be earning £100k and still not make ends meet. The ladies discuss and share the best reactions and explore what 30p Lee might have said. Learn to budget better perhaps?
The Kate Middleton news gets a brief mention as the ladies chat through the reaction to the announcement before moving swiftly on to the big news in town...
The Conservatives have a new Deputy Chairman and his name is Jonathan Gullis! He must be thrilled to be promoted to a job he's going to lose in 5 months.
Then Jemma and Marina finish with the latest and greatest bit of disinformation put out by Tory Twitter before finishing with a perfectly on-topic pudding about flags.

Thu, 28 Mar 2024 - 55min - 152 - Ep 136: Useless Ofcom, Holly Vallance defects & Freeports
Did you even realise the LibDems had held their Spring Conference? No, nor did Jemma and Marina. So in a bid to readdress the balance, the ladies open with a rather compelling snippet from leader, Ed Davey.
Then it's onto a rare moment where Keir Starmer offers hope (but careful, it's the hope that kills you), before delving into GB News' latest accolade: yet another strongly worded letter from Ofcom regarding their breaching of the impartiality rules. But you know, these things happen...once, twice - or in the case of GB News - 12 TIMES. But maybe next time they'll face a proper section. The 13th time's a charm...
Sticking with GB News, unlike their viewers, Jemma and Marina discuss Rees-Mogg's reaction to Ofcom's mild telling-off before getting stuck into the update you were all waiting for: Holly Valance's change of heart from Conservative to Reform. Jemma and Marina look forward to the next GB News installment where broadcasters bemoan Gary Lineker for not sticking to football, without even a hint of self-awareness.
And it's about time a special mention was given to Special Economic Zones and freeports - a sinister policy and plan from this Government that is sweeping the country with very little coverage or accountability. Thankfully, Carol Vorderman is on hand to deep dive with the accuracy we all know and love her for.
Finally a few tweets with some speculation over Obama's visit to Number 10 and a pudding from The Exploding Heads on Ofcom's latest weasel words.

Fri, 22 Mar 2024 - 39min - 151 - Ep 135: Tories plotting & Kate-spotting...
Does anyone else have a strong sense of déjà vu? Because it appears it's that time of year again: When the Tories decide to ditch their useless leader. Yep, because as Sunak continues to take his taxpayer-funded chopper on tour to tell us all that his plan that clearly isn't working is working, in other corners of the Tory party, the penny is dropping... Penny Mordaunt to be precise.
The ladies discuss the rumour mill of letters of no confidence going in, election dates, and revisit Penny Mordaunt's brief time as Liz Truss cheerleader and defender - "I think the Right Honourable Gentleman will find, she is absolutely not hiding under a desk".
Then it's onto extremism, as Michael Gove announces Govt's new definition of this, but fails to mention that if you donate £10million to The Tory party, or indeed £15million then you can indulge in all the extremism you like and still have a massive hold on the party of Government. Christian forgiveness and all that... And Speaker of the House, Sir Lindsay Hoyle also gets a little mention for failing to see Diane Abott bobbing up and down at PMQs like a busted Jack in the Box.
The Kate-Gate saga shows no signs of stopping, so Marina and Jemma dive straight in and touch upon some rather intriguing reporting from The Independent on a certain Marchioness of Cholmondley, plus the latest sighting of Kate (?) at her local garden centre.
Then it's a Kate-inspired pudding to finish, from the genius Munya Chawawa.

Sat, 16 Mar 2024 - 54min - 149 - 134: Order of the Thistle and Other Mad Plots
Jemma and Marina pay tribute to Theresa May who will be standing down at the next election. If by pay tribute you mean, remembering what she was known for re Windrush, the Hostile Environment and Brexit, amongst other 'hits.'
And then it's back to the big political news of the week. Lee Anderson is off to Reform. Getting suspended and then being offered a lot of money had nothing to do with it. He just wants his country 'back' apparently. The ladies wonder what it is he wants it back from....
There's a lot to talk about when it comes to the press conference, plus what it means for The Tories. Nadine Dorries thinks Johnson is the answer, but then she always thinks that Marina and Jemma discuss whether or not the the chances of his return are anything more than pure fantasy.
And then it's on to Kate Gate, that photo, and some of the tweets surrounding it. In other Royal news, Edward has been awarded the Order of The Thistle. It's safe to say Marina probably isn't going to be booked as a Royal correspondent any time soon given that she's not entirely sure which one Edward is. She also can't stop laughing at the Order Jemma has decided she should be awarded.

Fri, 15 Mar 2024 - 46min - 148 - Ep 133: Racist donors, reckless ministers & an Oscars highlight
Murdoch is engaged again. Marina and Jemma ponder this romantic news before delving into the aftermath of last week's budget. If the Tories had been hoping for a bounce in the polls, their political hearts will have dropped when they saw the latest results from Westminster Voting Intentions. Turns out, 2p off your NI hasn't had the cut through they were hoping for...funny that.
The Trawl ladies trawl through a few clips from the aftermath, some wonderful ones and some bias ones. Laura K they might be looking at you.
Then, Michelle Donelan's had her legal costs paid for by the treasury. Everyone alright with that? Jeremy Hunt seems pretty relaxed about it but then he also thought a 2p NI cut would make up for 14 years of Tory misery. Still, Donelan's legal bills were a snip compared to Truss' travel expenses and plane food bill. No cost cutting going on there. It seems cuts are only reserved for our public services.
Then, Jemma and Marina discuss the abhorrent comments made by Tory donor Frank Hester. The comments were dangerous and inexcusable and yet some MPs were OK with not dealing with them in the strongest of terms. Why did it take so long for the top Tories to call out for what it is - racism.
After all that political grit we're off to the Oscars for a bit of glamour. Jimmy Kimmel gets Under Rated Clip of The Week. Pudding is served by Larry and Paul

Thu, 14 Mar 2024 - 50min - 147 - Ep 132: Budget, bluster and bell curves...
It's budget day! And at time of record, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt had just dropped what the ladies hope will be the last Tory budget. Imagine that...
Jemma and Marina give some initial reactions to Hunt's speech which opened with lies, continued with lies, and then finished with lies - because if there's one thing Hunt is good at, it's consistency.
The ladies then move from the goings-on in Westminster to those in Rochdale with a lookback at George Galloway coming first in the Rochdale by-election, and Richard Tice's Reform candidate coming fourth - in a two-horse race, no less.
Then it's onto that Sunak speech outside number 10 on a Friday at 5:30pm, which for all his faults, Boris Johnson would never have done - most probably because it would have eaten into wine-time Fridays.
This week's underrated section is a buffet of delicious clips and tweets, including THAT Grazia interview with Rishi Sunak and his wife as they tried to convey themselves as totally normal, and came across as anything but.
The ladies finish with a clip of Sky's Sophy Ridge that felt heaven-sent for The Trawl, plus a smash hits pudding from Munya Chawawa.

Thu, 07 Mar 2024 - 48min - 146 - Ep 131: Right gone wrong - Suella, Lee and Liz
Like Mariah, Celine and Whitney, Tory bells Lee, Suella and Liz need only their first name for instant recognition. But sadly, instead of singing absolute belters, this trio of wrong' uns are spewing hate, division and stoking fear.
This pod is sectioned, as some might suggest our trio should be, to allow for individual dissection of the latest line-crossing of these three Tories, who are seemingly on a mission to get themselves so far to the right, that our hope is they tip over.
Jemma and Marina discuss Suella's latest Torygraph article where she declared the Islamists, extremists and antisemites are now in charge of Britain, which makes somewhat of a change from it being the blob, the elite establishment and the tofu-eating wokerati.
Then it's onto Lee Anderthal, who limited his apparent Islamophobia to London and its Mayor instead of the whole of Great Britain - how very restrained of him. The ladies discuss the dangerous conflation between Islam and Islamists, and the shocking results of a Tory member poll that shows this dangerous conflation is having an impact., before attempting to lighten the tone with some wonderful reactions to Lee's latest cock-up.
And when is racism, not racism? Well, when it's covered by the BBC and is demoted to just 'criticism'. Astounding coverage of these events followed astounding interviews where ministers and Secretaries of State metaphorically soiled themselves on air, which are served up for your listening pleasure.
Finally, it's onto Liz - who last week found herself serving her South-West Norfolk constituents all the way from a far-right conference in the US. Staying true to form, Liz spent her time trying to wreck things as quickly as possible - not the UK economy, mortgages and pension funds this time - instead she has moved on to US/UK diplomatic relations. Well done, Liz.
The ladies praise Sunak's efforts in doing what no PM has done before - uniting Liverpool and Chelsea fans. Then it's onto a few delicious underrated tweets to help you get through the sheer ridiculousness of it all, before pudding from Larry & Paul.

Fri, 01 Mar 2024 - 57min - 145 - Ep 130: Dying for Russia vs shilling for Russia
Some of the London Underground tube lines have had a rebrand and one of the commentators at the Daily Telegraph isn’t happy. Apparently the Lionesses, the Suffragettes and the Windrush generation are all ‘hard left’. So there you go. If you find yourself in the capital and use the tube, you’re basically a communist.
Obviously it’s all Sadiq Kahn’s fault and yet what Conservative HQ have tried to do to the Mayor really is something to be appalled by. Marina and Jemma listen to a clip they put out, where they deliberately cut Khan off at a very crucial point, just as he was about to correct himself. It being The Trawl, the Trawl ladies play you the longer version too. That way you can judge for yourself what the truth of the matter is and whether the chairman of the Tory party’s defence is good enough.
Meanwhile, across the pond, ex Fox News host, Tucker Carlson, has been fawning over Putin in a bizarre interview and extolling the virtues of living in Russia. He also seems entirely comfortable with the notion that all leaders kill people. He uttered this statement a mere few days before Putin’s opponent, Alexei Navalny, did indeed get killed. Jemma and Marina pay tribute to Navalny’s bravery and hope his death wasn’t in vain.
Pudding is unusually emotional but that seems fitting for this episode. You never know when your time might be up.

Fri, 23 Feb 2024 - 36min - 144 - Ep 129: Into the "mild" recession we go...
Jemma and Marina open with a tribute to the late, great BBC Radio host, Steve Wright who we lost last week - Sunday Love Songs will never be the same...
Then... Should the ladies try to be more poetic when talking down the Tories? Bells and bollards are fine, but perhaps they would fare better taking inspiration from the Nigerians. There's a lot of fun to be had when the ladies put this into practice.
Next, it's onto those massive by-election losses for Labour - which the Tories and their client journalists will still try to have you believe show no enthusiasm for Labour. If that's the case, goodness knows what it means for enthusiasm levels for the Tories.
Rees-Mogg gets a little section all of his own for being thicker than average - or as the Nigerians might say: for being chased by wisdom, but choosing ton outrun it. The ladies discuss Mogg's latest milk-based outburst and try desperately to remove toxic visions from their minds when talk turns to Mogg's nanny and his...bitty.
Then it's a celebratory moment for the fact that the UK has entered a recession - but just a little, mild, technical one - in fact, one of the best ones we've had in years according to the BBC - how lovely.
But don't even think about blaming the party of Govt for the last 14 years, instead be sure to blame students who play truant, as suggested by the seemingly crack-smoking jounro at The Telegraph, who suggested as much in their headline.
Then it's a quick despair at being walked at gunpoint to the cashpoint by our Govt and utility firms to pay for their record profits, before some topical tweets and a GB News pudding that may invoke a tiny bit of vom.

Thu, 15 Feb 2024 - 54min - 142 - Ep 128: UnPop Cons, Holly Vallance & Gregg Wallace...
Grab your popcorn, we're off to Pop Con...Jemma and Marina take you through the lowlights of the Popular Conservatism conference - the latest Tory splinter group headed up, unironically, by the most unpopular Conservative known to man, Liz Truss.
After realizing they are both "left-wing extremists" in Truss's power-sodden mind, Jemma and Marina discuss how after the anti-elites Pop Con conference, 30 Conservatives gathered for cocktails at Rees-Mogg’s £5m Westminster townhouse, at 2pm, on a Tuesday, like we all do.
Then it's move over Mike Graham - there's a new genius in town, and this one is the MP for Ashfield, 30p Lee who took to the stage to declare that coal is sustainable, just like concrete.Jemma and Marina explore the underlying beliefs that drives all conservatives, before putting to the test a crucial theory posed by James O'Brien: Would Jacob-Ress Mogg be taken seriously if the guff that fell from his mouth was delivered with a working-class accent? The results are 100% conclusive.
Then it's onto THAT clip of Holly Vallance, in which the ex-soap and pop starlet declared lefty ideas to be "crappy". And that everyone starts off a lefty until they get houses or jobs - and then they move to the right. Or in Vallance's case, they marry a billionaire.Moving on, the ladies chat through a day in the life of MasterChef's, Gregg Wallace after an article he wrote for The Telegraph Magazine left a lot of us questioning his life choices...and then our own...and then also fancying a Harvester breakfast.
The Trawl ends with some tips from the Daily Mail for how to fend off an XL bully if you find yourself under attack - really useful stuff, just remember not to leave the house without your spare carrier bag of attack meat. And Marina offers up her own eye-opening advice, which requires no props at all.
To finish is a delightful pudding from Satirist Sue Harrison of Liz Truss - if she went to an improv class.

Tue, 13 Feb 2024 - 47min - 141 - Ep 127: Sunak's Gaffes
We'd bet you a £1000 you've heard about the bet between Sunak and Piers Morgan, only there's a cost of living crisis and we're not that crass. Yes, the Prime Minister of Britain actually thought it was appropriate to allow himself to be boxed in by Morgan to the point where he shook his hand on television, betting that he'd get a plane load of refugees into the air. A new low. His defence? I was taken by surprise. Marina and Jemma aren't entirely sure that's much comfort coming from the leader of the country.
Then, to make a bad week even worse, Sunak makes a 'joke' in Parliament about Starmer not knowing what a woman is, on the day the mother of murdered trans girl Brianna Ghey is in the chamber. Despite how appalling this is, no apology has been made. Instead, MP after MP fall over themselves to defend, gaslight and double down. Warning - none of it is edifying but Jemma and Marina try to make sense of it and discuss why they think Sunak gets it so wrong time and time again.
We finish off with a bit of corruption and a fantastic pudding from Munya Chawawa.

Sun, 11 Feb 2024 - 40min - 140 - Ep 126: Brexit Anniversary: Four years on.
In this ep Jemma and Marina are 'celebrating' the fourth anniversary of Brexit by listening to some old clips of people who were certain it would be marvellous. The Trawl ladies were tempted to exchange gifts but in order to stick to the theme, they'd have needed a ring which turns your finger green or a carriage clock that doesn't work.
They particularly enjoyed the compare and contrast moment of the lead singer of Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson, talking about how his industry wouldn't be affected back in 2018 vs him speaking now, in 2024 about how....his industry has been affected. Ah, hindsight's a wonderful thing though to be fair he probably had slightly more of a grasp on Brexit than the Love Islanders. Though only slightly.
Still, at least he's not a politician who has championed something she said would be great for business who now says businesses need to suck it up ( not actual words). Cue Andrea Leadsom. Once Andrea has said the word so many times it no longer means anything, we turn to Jacob Rees Mogg to hear what he's up to on this glorious anniversary. In a quite extraordinary clip, hear him trying to tell a farmer about farming. (Spoiler the farmer isn't delighted with Brexit).
Then, Marina and Jemma take a moment to ponder why the French rioted when they found out their retirement age was to increase by two years, whereas here, it's being said we'll have to work till we're 71 and no one's batted an eyelid.A glorious exchange between Matthew Wright and Ann Widdecombe is a wonderful palate cleanser before pudding by The Exploding Heads.

Sat, 10 Feb 2024 - 41min - 135 - Ep 125: Lucy Frazer calls bias, we call bull...
The Tory bellendery is strong in this ep... First, we have the audacity of a Govt known for 'losing' its WhatsApps announcing its new Govt WhatsApp, followed by a series of car crash interviews that are almost painful to listen to - a pile-up if you like. Staring with... Culture Secretary, Lucy Frazer, the little girl who cried bias. Or was it perception of bias? Or evidence of bias? Same Same. Jemma and Marina explore the possibility that the BBC may be bias, but arrive at a conclusion that is just a tad different to Lucy's. Next up for interviews they'd rather forget was Tory MP, Huw Merriman who has a perception that the BBC is bias because The News Quiz mocked Tory MPs and the Government - which ironically gives us even more reason to mock Tory MPs and the Government. And finally, it's guaranteed-to-go viral, Susan Hall, the Tory Mayoral candidate who does Sadiq Khan's campaigning for him. In another Nick Ferrari interview on LBC she is exposed for not knowing the stuff she is supposed to know about now, and then not really knowing the stuff that she supposedly once knew about - splendid stuff. The ladies touch upon that moment when Sunak laughed in the face of a woman asking him about the NHS and reminded us that he has less charisma and likeability that Mark Francois on a Tory rebellion day. Then it's into underrated tweets, followed by a pudding so powerful that it couldn't be left out. Sun, 28 Jan 2024 - 38min - 134 - Ep 124: Steel yourself - we're off to Port Talbot
Jemma and Marina decide this episode is an 'eat your greens' type of ep because what's happened in Port Talbot certainly isn't funny. Around 3000 people are set to lose their jobs when the blast furnaces are closed so the tone is perhaps more serious than usual because the Trawl ladies really want to look at how it's got to this point. After all, Sunak gave Tata Steel £500 million to 'protect jobs', only it turns out he didn't get any assurances in return. Now, a community is decimated and we'll be the only country in the G20 not to be making steel. The majority of the media are blaming Net Zero so thank goodness for Byline TV and ex first minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones who actually utters the 'B' word and explains why Brexit has caused this. It won't come as a huge surprise to find out that the people of Port Talbot voted Leave, but then they were targeted with Facebook ads which claimed in order to protect the steel industry that was what they needed to do. It's a sorry mess. Thank goodness for the Nicola Sturgeon WhatsApp online brouhaha. There are also some excellent under rated tweets to lighten the mood and, in Jemma's case, lower the tone. Fri, 26 Jan 2024 - 40min - 133 - Ep 123: Sniggling - When 30p Lee became Hurty Lee
Another week of Tory psychodrama, another week of Tories making utter fools of themselves. It's hard to know where to start, so Jemma and Marina intro with a gem from Tory mayoral candidate, Susan Mason and her Essex nightclub howler. Then it's a quick chat about THAT YouGov poll - and how it was oh so perfectly timed to collide with the Rwanda vote. And my word...what a kerfuffle. All that noise, pressure, threats, resignations - all for the bill to pass with just 11 looney rebels prepared to stand firm. Trust Tory rebels to be too incompetent to rebel. Jemma and Marina savour the moment '30p Lee' became 'Hurty Lee' and invented a whole new word to describe the utter trauma of being...sniggled at. The ladies chat through the desperate lengths Sunak is going to in pursuit of his albatross Rwanda bill - including his magic trick, where from out of nowhere he is going to abracadabra up 150 judges. It would be rude not to include Therese Coffey's ruinous House of Commons moment regarding Rwanda, and then it's onto an observation of "Dodgy" Dave Cameron's Brexit admission on the Laura Kuenssberg show. To finish, Jemma shares some cheeky weather reports, Marina brings up the Royals - because apparently we are a nation reeling and worrying ourselves sick over how Prince William will manage bathtime, and you're in for a treat with a perfectly on theme 30p Pudding. Sat, 20 Jan 2024 - 50min - 132 - Ep 122: A Very British Post Office Scandal
Why can’t every freeborn Briton burn his Christmas tree in his own hearth? Jemma and Marina ponder how this question, that is on precisely nobody's lips, was chosen by blovitaing bell Boris Johnson as the hill to die on for his £15k per column article in the Daily Mail. You've got to wonder if they're having buyer's remorse yet. Then brace yourselves, as it's onto our new Brexit benefit! Move aside pint of wine, because now we have shellfish in the Thames! Prawn cocktail a la Thames, anyone? Or perhaps a bit of Coquille St Craps? But the meat of this pod is dedicated to the utterly gut-wrenching Post Office scandal. The ladies discuss why this story has finally captured everyone's attention and how it is sadly symptomatic of a country where the rich and powerful can cheat and crush the little person. They discuss the gross gangster-style bullying and intimidation carried out by the Post Office and talk about the person who is really at fault here... Keir Starmer - apparently! Plus they pay homage to tireless campaigners of the cause like Priti Patel, or at least she made out she was, until a Community Note on X proved otherwise. After a delicious dose of fury from Ian Hislop as he schooled Tory MP Jake 'not very bright' Berry, the ladies move on to Kate Middleton's winning fashion formula, which is totally accessible for all - we just need to wait for H&M to start stocking diamond-encrusted tiaras, shields and tridents. Then it's onto underrated tweets and clips of the week, including a particularly cheeky Farage-flavoured one and a belter of a Post Office pudding from the wonderful satirist, Rosie Holt. Fri, 12 Jan 2024 - 50min - 131 - The Trawl Meets: Jen Brister
Comedian and writer Jen Brister eschews X but is massive on Instagram where clips of her brilliant stand-up frequently go viral. Jemma and Marina love her so much, they've both been to seen her live so imagine their delight when they found out Jen, not only listens to The Trawl, but also can't stand the Tories. Inevitably, politics is at the forefront of their minds in this get together, but there's plenty of chat about parenthood and why it's OK to admit playgrounds are boring (for adults). Marina and Jemma enjoy playing clips of their Jen Brister highlights and it all makes for a very fun Trawl. Wed, 10 Jan 2024 - 1h 04min - 130 - Ep 121: Sunak tries to be normal...
It's the first Trawl of 2024 and the ladies are back with a bang - or indeed, a massive bell! Jemma and Marina lament taking quite so long to record the first new year's Trawl. They expected the Tories to be less chaotic over the festive period and into the new year, but alas, they got that as wrong as a Patrick Minford economy prediction. There were many uncool yule moments, and many festive bells, but in this episode Jemma and Marina explore the lowlights of a man with more community notes than your local civic centre: Rishi Sunak. And the little weasel has been busy... First Rishi did Home Alone, then Rishi did Southampton FC, then Rishi did the oldest youth centre known to man - but what Rishi didn't do, was the truth. Sunak's 2023 lookback was interesting... In that it was a lookback on a 2023 that will have been familiar to absolutely no one, but worry not, as you'll be sure to find comedian Tilly Thorpe's version is far more on point. The ladies discuss the latest in global Britain, including Sunak opening the year with a tweet announcing the end of global Britain. Because stopping a Chinese student from bringing their mother to the UK is now delivering for the British people... Then it's onto the biggest bells of all - Gongs! Jemma and Marina lament a country where Sir Wetherspoon is now a thing and breakers of electoral law don't get banned from parliament, but instead embedded within it. They also wonder what cup size one must reach before their political opinions become irrelevant - this might be one for Lord Bailey of Paddington to answer. Underrated tweets include a fox hunting gem, all polished off with a tuneful treat from The Marsh Family regarding those peerages, with a sing named: “Does Truss not feel ashamed?” Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreon https://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Learn more about your ad choices. Mon, 08 Jan 2024 - 47min - 129 - Ep 120: Festive Trawl - Jingle Bell Ends like Mone and Gullis
Jemma and Marina invite you to The Trawl Christmas Party. It's in your ears, whenever you want to attend. Wear what you want, it's all very laid back though the chat veers from serious to light, to ridiculous and the drinks are imaginary. The slow dance isn't obligatory but does add the office party feels... First Marina and Jemma toast the fact that 2024 will hopefully be the year we finally get a general election. A glimmer of hope on the Tory landscape. Then the Trawl ladies wonder why it's so hard to find press coverage of Prince Harry's win in court. It's almost like the press don't want to besmirch the press. Then - we need to talk about Mone. After all, she's the one who organised an interview with Laura Kuenssberg, which went about as well as the one Prince Andrew did. Come to think of it, he didn't think he'd done anything wrong either. Marina and Jemma are not impressed by Mone's defence that the millions are her husband's so 'nothing to do with her, honest guv' or the facts of what went on during the pandemic when it came to doling out PPE contracts. The party is taking a turn for the grim, so the girls turn their attention to some of the funniest clips of 2023 and chat about their favourite Christmas movies. Though Marina might be having a rethink on one of hers..... There's just time for some underrated tweets and some thank you's. Marina and Jemma have had a ball trawling this year and literally couldn't do it without you. Merry Christmas you filthy animals. They'll be back in January ready for a massive 2024 xx Thank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreon https://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Learn more about your ad choices. Thu, 21 Dec 2023 - 50min - 128 - Ep 119: Lost WhatsApp's, memories gone & former-footballer fiascos
Sunak and Johnson have both lost their whatsapp messages - the ones which were sent when they were Prime Minster and Chancellor and in charge. It's 'such' a coincidence and makes total sense that it's magically happened to both of them. Jemma and Marina are totally convinced - honest guv. Marina's worried about Sunak's memory too. The poor sausage can't recall anything. Jemma suggest fish oils maybe? Still, Dorries is on hand to thoroughly discredit her love, Johnson, without even realising she's doing it. In fact, in her world she's supporting him, it's quite a talent. Lineker is blowing up X again by daring to reply to people and Mone has paid for a documentary which is entirely neutral and fair. In other news Joey Barton has decided women shouldn't be allowed to commentate on football. Marina and Jemma have a lot to say on this and just hope Joey is alright with that. Oh and Farage is back from the jungle having come in at 'who cares' third place. Pudding is quite sublime and suitably festive. Politics Joe have pulled it out the bag again. Enjoy! Sun, 17 Dec 2023 - 48min - 127 - Ep 118: 5 Families, 0 Rebellions & 1 Massive Bell
Five seconds after Jemma and Marina finished recording the last Trawl, typically, British politics took a new turn for the mad. Cleverly has declared that unless you earn £37.5K you can't settle here with a foreigner. Having crushed millions of people's hopes and dreams and stuck a big Tory finger up to romance, there's hardly time to scream 'But what about Shirley Valentine?' before moving on to the next psychodrama. Oh yes, it's Rwanda shitshow time. The Tories are fighting like rats in a sack, determined to get the 'Rwanda Safety Bill' through and to hell with the law. None of it has been edifying but Mark Francois strutting about talking about his 'star chamber' and 'spartans' and the 'five families' is particularly astounding and generates a lot of great tweets. George Monbiot put in a brilliantly impressive turn on Question Time so Marina and Jemma make sure you hear a bit of that. Then it's time to pay tribute to poet Benjamin Zephaniah who sadly died. It's fitting that this episode finishes with a poem for pudding. This one is written by Michael Forte (Jemma's dad) and the Trawl ladies think it's got Trawl written all over it. Fri, 15 Dec 2023 - 45min - 126 - The Trawl Meets: Dan Hodges
This month, The Trawl met someone you might not expect us to... Someone who certainly bucks the trend of people we’ve spoken with thus far, because it’s a person, who you could argue, finds themselves on the other side of the debate more often than not. Even if you don't know of Hodges himself, you'll definitely know who he works for - The Mail, or as Jemma and Marina tend to refer to it - "one of those Tory right-wing sh*trags". At time of record, Braverman has just been sacked following the remembrance day riot at the cenotaph, which one could argue was almost sponsored by the papers Hodges is associated with. Needless to say, the ladies quiz him on this and how someone with such a well-known, anti-Tory, Labour MP mother, could end up working where he has. Disagreements ensue, from the pro-Palestine and pro-ceasefire marches to who it is that really chooses our leaders: the electorate or the press barons? Jemma asks whether Dan cares about the non-dom nature of his big boss and if ever he and his colleagues turn up to work and despair at the bilge they're paid to write. Prepare to be shocked by Dan's verdict on the Tory VIP PPE lane, and to be not shocked at all by his thoughts on the revolving door between press and politics - after all, what would you expect from the man once referred to in The Spectator as David Cameron's "new favorite columnist? An interesting chat, somewhat baffling and, at times, a lot like nailing jelly to a wall. Fri, 08 Dec 2023 - 44min - 125 - Ep 117: Starmer Drama and Tory Trauma
The Trawl schedule has gone off piste due to haywire Christmas diaries (normal practice will resume next week). And so it is that this week, Jemma and Marina find themselves trawling, just as news is breaking that Cleverly has announced a tranche of policy, supposedly designed to cut immigration figures. Their heads are spinning as they try to absorb the latest ill thought out Tory batshittery which means foreign carers won't be able to bring dependants with them (nice). Oh, and if you fall in love with anyone foreign, unless they earn 37K, they can't come and live with you. Okaaaaa There do follow some reasons to be cheerful - more Tory MPs are reportedly considering leaving the sinking ship before they can be booted out. One of the names mooted is Education Secretary, Gillian Keegan, but she's busy wreaking havoc before she offskies. Childcare is the latest sector under the Trawl spotlight and Marina and Jemma's conclusions are that.....things aren't not looking good. Free hours can only be free if someone pays for the labour. A lot of people of note have sadly passed since the last ep. The Trawl ladies take a look at the people who have died in the last week and discuss whose deaths have moved then personally in the past. Jemma would never have predicted who Marina says. There's news from the jungle, tweets from Cop 28 and a chat about why on earth Starmer felt the need to describe Thatcher's legacy as 'meaningful.' It's caused a ruckus on the left that's for sure. Cilla's back for a quick blast and Larry and Paul serve a very well themed pudding. Wed, 06 Dec 2023 - 49min - 124 - Ep 116: Tax cut lies, Susan Hall lows & Elon Musk meltdowns
The episode opens with a trip to the Plymouth Christmas lights switch-on, where Torty MP, Johnny Mercer is met with a different type of Christmas cheer. Then it's report time... Because last week the OBR published its economic and fiscal outlook for 2024, and it's a grimmer read than one of Nadine's dirty novels - though in the OBR report, a significantly higher number of people are getting screwed. Jemma and Marina discuss the numerous newspaper headlines celebrating Hunt's tax cuts, which is problematic, given we're now facing the biggest tax burden since WWII. But hey, why let the truth get in the way of a client journalist's headline? Then settle in for a gripping, action-packed, true crime story, featuring Tory Mayoral candidate Susan Mason. Less Die Hard, more Lie Hard. Underrated clips of the week include Elon Musk wiping another few billion off the X share price during a public soiling of himself, and a little treat from Cilla Black - God Rest Her Soul. Pudding is served up by Moog with his version of Susan Mason's terrifying run-in with the criminal underworld of London. Sadiq Khan has a lot to answer for... Sun, 03 Dec 2023 - 37min - 123 - Ep 115 Greek marbles, Rwandan sovereignty & British denial
When all about you are losing their marbles... Greece is trying to claim theirs back. And it's computer says no from Rishi Sunak who has decided to start a diplomatic war with Greece because he doesn't want to give them back their marbles - which is exactly the response you'd expect from our populist PM, and incidentally, also a spoilt toddler. Then it's onto our new Home Secretary, James Cleverly, who, despite the House of Commons being laden with cameras and microphones, decided to direct profanities at the entire constituency of Stockton, and then despite recorded evidence of exactly this, tell us he didn't. More records are smashed for Sunak - just in the wrong direction to what he promised with this week's revelation of unprecedented migration figures. And Richard Tice takes to X to chat about climate change in a clip that gives Cillit Bang's, Barry Scott a run for his money. Underrated tweet is a naughty little jab at GB News from Aid Thompsin and for pudding, comedian James Acaster gives his take on the Elgin marbles debacle.
