Three groups of engineers have disappeared while working in the Andes. This is a job for Clark Kent!   Bud Collyer (who has a bad case of Laryngitis) is Clark, Julian Noa is Perry Mason, and Joan Alexander is Lois Lane. I didn’t know that Superman could get Laryngitis!

Phil plays "Dinah" on his accordion. The third contestant is Jack Benny, whose category is "Musical History." After answering the $1 question, Jack tries to quit and take the dollar!

Then Fibber McGee and Molly, originally broadcast November 8, 1937, 87 years ago, Introducing Clark Dennis. The Combined and Amalgamated Newspaper Association is going to interview Fibber and Molly. Then HG Wells meets Orson Welles, originally broadcast October 28, 1949, 75 years ago.  The two literary giants, H.G. Wells and Orson Welles, met in San Antonio, Texas, for a recorded conversation on KTSA radio station. This chance encounter was significant, as both men were connected by their work on H.G. Wells’ classic science fiction novel, “The War of the Worlds”.

We follow that with the news from 86 years ago, then The Chase and Sandborn Hour, originally broadcast October 30, 1938, 86 years ago, with guest Madeleine Carroll.  Nelson Eddy starts the program by singing, "The Song Of The Vagabonds." The gang commits a series of crimes for Juanita, who wanted a red dress very much.

A podcast on the predecessor to the Emergency Broadcast System and the Emergency Alert System - CONELRAD

First, No Second Chance from 1955 - "No Second Chance" Conelrad in "practice" radio public service drama / documentary. 1955 Written by Jack Kessler Directed by Eric Howlett Produced by the National Office of Civil Defense by WJR Detroit

Second, By The People from 1959.  A government produced radio drama about the Emergency Broadcasting System known as CONELRAD.  The story concerns Key City Chronicle reporter Dan Taylor (played by Lon Clark) doing the "whole story" on CONELRAD. Three years after this broadcast, CONELRAD was replaced by the Emergency Broadcasting System (EBS).

Finally a recording of the 1961 CONELRAD test, Operation Alert 1961 complete with message from President Kennedy. 
This recording was made directly off the air. The station was 1240 Khz WSBC in Chicago.

We follow that with Dragnet starring Jack Webb, originally broadcast August 18, 1949, 75 years ago.    There have been sixteen jewel burglaries in the last sixteen days, a very active thief! The trail leads to Walter Tracy. 

Then Escape, originally broadcast August 18, 1949, 75 years ago, Snake Doctor starring William Conrad and Ira Grossel - better known as Jeff Chandler.  A weird old man seems a mite too friendly with the cottonmouths.

Followed by The Mysterious Traveler, originally broadcast August 18, 1946, 78 years ago, Death is The Visitor.  A man kills his obnoxious mother-in-law and puts her body in a trunk. However, she's not that easy to get rid of! 

Finally, Superman, originally broadcast August 18, 1941, 83 years ago, Dr. Roebling and The Voice Machine.  Clark Kent breaks out of jail!

Then The Fleishman’s Yeast Hour starring Rudy Vallee, originally broadcast August 17, 1933, 91 years ago.  One of the oldest shows I’ve ever used.  The first tune is, "I'm Just A Vagabond Lover." Bobby Gilbert plays an amazing "talking" violin (it even recites, "Mary Had A Little Lamb")! Nora Lehman does a radio version of her "national best-selling record," "Seven Years With The Wrong Man." Rudy sings, "Learn To Croon," and imitates Bing Crosby! Dorothy Gish appears in a scene from, "Autumn Crocus." Howard and Shelton do the routine they did in the 1925 "Greenwich Village Follies," titled, "No News."

Followed by The CBS Radio Workshop, originally broadcast August 17, 1956, 68 years ago, Colloquy Two: 'Dissertation On Love' or 'Boy Meets Girl.  A look at love, from an American, British, and French point of view. 

Then The Jack Parr Show, originally broadcast August 17, 1947, 77 years ago, Guest Star Jack Benny. Little Known People Who Mean Absolutely Nothing: A lady tree surgeon. Who will be Jack's winter replacement?  Perhaps guest Jack Benny will win the talent contest. Jack plays the violin.

Finally Claudia, originally broadcast August 17, 1948, 76 years ago, A Day on the Town.
