- 285 - Is It Just Me: Ariana and Cynthia - leave their bodies out of it!
It’s time to get topical!
The highly anticipated Wicked film came out this week and guess what… we weren’t invited to the premiere (unlike the rest of Instagram!) We also get serious about the body shaming we’ve seen in the media around Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Why do people feel like it’s okay to talk about their bodies and why are we so reductive when it comes to women?
We also discuss camel anatomy, I’m A Celeb and the love of Em’s life… Hugh Jackman.

Thu, 14 Nov 2024 - 30min - 282 - I’m a Just Stop Oil activist - for my children’s future
Have you ever heard a non-confrontational confrontation with a Just Stop Oil activist? Today we’re speaking to Gill Tavner. She’s a Just Stop Oil campaigner - but perhaps doesn’t fit the image that the media might paint you of one.
Gill was one of the warmest and most lovely people that we’ve spoken to on the podcast. She also has a criminal conviction - for walking in the road as part of a Just Stop Oil slow march.
She tells us how her activism was inspired by increasing desperation and anger about her daughters’ futures and she explains in simple, accessible and clear terms what Just Stop Oil is demanding - and it might not be as extreme as you think.
We know that climate anxiety is a real thing - and we know sometimes it can be easy to avoid difficult conversations about climate change. But Gill makes the conversation digestible and understandable - and she might just make you want to take action.

Thu, 07 Nov 2024 - 36min - 280 - Mythbusting with a midwife ... with Mamadinya!
Even though we have babies - it turns out, we don’t know *that* much about giving birth. So, today on the podcast - we’re talking to Mamadinya… the internet’s favourite’s midwife.
Mamadinya came to the studio to answer everything you’ve always wanted to ask a midwife. What happens if you poo in a birthing pool? If you want to take your placenta home - do they give it to you in a bag? What happens during birth if you have hemorrhoids?
Whether you have kids, want kids, are unsure, or if you're certain they're not for you - Mamadinya throws open the door onto something that most of us probably should know more about. If you're curious about life - this episode is for you.

Thu, 31 Oct 2024 - 38min - 278 - I clean hoarder houses for a living
It’s one of those episodes where we dive into a TikTok curiosity hole - and we end up learning something quite profound on the way. It turns out cleaning is about a lot more than just mess...
Today, we’re speaking to Vicki - who is a biohazard cleaning specialist. You might know her from her TikTok videos - where she shows us what she does for a living - cleaning hoarder houses, crime scenes and anything which involves bodily fluids.
We explore the mental health reasons why someone might become a hoarder, how Vicki copes with the mental strain of her job - and why she choses to use her TikTok income to finance free cleans for those in need.

Mon, 28 Oct 2024 - 58min - 277 - Is It Just Me: Reflecting on the week’s internet noise
It's been a very big week on the internet - so we're bringing you a topical episode to reflect on three topics that have felt particularly important for us.
Firstly - take a look at the internet's reaction to the tragic news of Liam Payne's death. The noise on the internet around this topic has felt extraordinarily loud this week - so we discuss the cycle of trolling and tragedy that we have seen play out so many times and how we're feeling about it.
Then, it's time to go back in time because the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is back. Have we just taken a massive step back in terms of our collective relationship with body image, or is this a reinvention that was desperately needed?
And talking about society's obsession with thinness - we also chat about the government's conversation about Ozempic as a tool to get people back into the workforce.
In the new year, we will be releasing a series on the podcast dissecting our relationship with body image. If there's something you want us to cover or is if there something you want to tell us: you can email us on shouldideletethatpod@gmail.com!

Wed, 23 Oct 2024 - 36min - 276 - They wrote me off - then I won gold… with Dame Kelly Holmes
We have our first Dame on the podcast! The incredible Dame Kelly Holmes joins Em and Alex this week for a honest and vulnerable chat about mental health, motivation and ageing.
Dame Kelly tells us about how her incredible story started when a PE teacher told her she could be good at something - and then, how watching the Olympics inspired a twenty-year long dream of becoming Olympic Champion.
She tells us how she became a world class athlete whilst serving in the Army - and how she defied those who wrote her off because of her age to achieve her dreams, and then why she chose to speak out about the mental health struggles she dealt with during her career.
Where does she find her motivation? How do athletes deal with being put on a pedestal? And more importantly…. how do you ACTUALLY get into the Olympics?

This week - Alex has a fresh batch of beef with TikTok for uniniviting her to an event (AGAIN) - so we’ve decided to spill the tea on influencer events... is it all just posing for pics and not speaking to each other?
Em tells us the story of a rental handbag that came with a little extra suprise… and we’re also asking why people at weddings won’t explain the economy to us - and why can't they just print more money?

Thu, 17 Oct 2024 - 33min - 274 - The only person that was going to find my cancer was me... with The Titty Gritty
Six years ago, Helen Addis (aka The Titty Gritty) found a lump. Despite having no history of cancer in her family - it was an aggressive form of breast cancer. A week after her diagnosis - she had a masectomy, followed by 18 months of active treatment.
Being well under the screening age, the only person who would have found Helen’s cancer - was Helen.
During her treatment, Helen asked her friends and family if they checked their boobs - and when most of them said no - she made it her mission to spread awareness about checking your breasts. So, she launched the Change+Check campaign - it is a simple sticker which goes on shop and gym changing room mirrors reminding people to check themselves for signs of breast cancer. She also almost got the queen with a pair of boobs on a Royal Mail stamp…
This Breast Cancer Awareness month - Helen is part of a campign to make a life-extending drug called ENHERTU available in England, Wales and Northen Ireland. Despite petitions, protests, campaigns and even government pressure the secondary breast cancer community is being met with constant rejection. They are now fundrasing to raise the legal fees to take legal proceedings to continue the fight for those who need this drug urgently and for the thousands upon thousands who will need it in months and years to come. You can read more about the campaign - and donate here

Wed, 25 Sep 2024 - 27min - 268 - Life as a Woman in the British Army
TW: sexual assault, rape, suicide
This week on the podcast, Em and Alex are joined by Gemma Morgan. When Gemma joined the Army, she discovered very quickly how she had to behave as a woman to get by: prove your strength by pushing yourself harder than you ever thought possible, but ensure you act small enough so you don't step on the toes of your male counterparts. This balancing act proved near impossible under the weight of oppressive misogyny deeply entrenched within the structure of the British Armed Forces, where razors were supplied for men to shape their facial hair while sanitary products for her and others that needed them weren't even a consideration. Gemma's Army career didn't go to plan, with trauma, abuse and PTSD all featuring in her story. She explains how she went from outstanding soldier to suffering a near-fatal mental health crisis, and why she is now demanding change. Gemma found help and hope, and wants to show others that they can too.

Wed, 21 Aug 2024 - 48min - 258 - Why is the World so Tough on Mothers?
This week, Em and Alex are joined by founder of Motherkind, Zoe Blaskey! After a rollercoaster of an email from a listener last week, the girls were feeling a bit deflated. It was beginning to feel like there wasn't enough space to be open about the realities of motherhood, and that it wasn't clear to listeners how happy they were despite finding things hard. This is where Zoe came in to clear things up. Zoe is on a mission to help mothers shift from guilt, exhaustion and comparison to confidence and empowerment. She explains why a mother's instinct isn't innate, what matrescence is and why you shouldn't tell mothers that they will get back to their "old self". This enlightening conversation is for mothers, future mothers, those questioning whether they want to be mothers and those who have decided against parenthood all together!

This week on the podcast, Em and Alex are joined by the hosts of the Mixed Up podcast, Emma Slade Edmondson and Nicole Ocran! Nicole and Emma met back in 2018 and when they started chatting, they realised they had something in common that they hadn't spoken about in depth with even their family before: being mixed-race. After jokingly suggesting that their discussion should be a podcast, they launched the critically acclaimed Mixed Up podcast and have now written a book called The Half of It. In this episode, they discuss the ways in which being mixed-race is misunderstood, why many mixed-race people feel as though they can't comment on race issues, and why no one really discussed identity when they were younger. They also chat about privilege, the complex history of mixed-race people and the stereotypes that are pushed upon them.

Wed, 24 Jul 2024 - 28min - 250 - Em's Pregnancy (!!), Hyperemesis and the Awkward to End All Awkwards
In this week's episode, the girls are in their brand new studio ready to discuss what's been happening with Em over the past few months. She's been growing another baby! As you are probably aware from her last pregnancy, Em suffers with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), a debilitating, chronic condition caused by a reaction to a particular pregnancy hormone which causes severe nausea, vomiting and dehydration and, in Em's case, can last an entire pregnancy. Em details her experience with HG, the internet's reaction to her announcement and the inevitable, horrendous trolls that emerge when she chose to be vulnerable. To top off the conversation, Em shares the awkward to end all awkwards that she's been holding on to for well over a week now...

This week on the podcast, Em and Alex are joined by OG influencer Lorna Luxe! Lorna started as an air hostess, but as her eating disorder began to take over, her ability to work was impacted. Losing the job that was her whole identity meant she had to work out another way to find herself. Lorna talks us through this journey to recovery, all things beauty, ageism, the choice to be child-free and her relationship with Mr Luxe!

Wed, 10 Jul 2024 - 38min - 246 - The Right to Lose Weight with Billie Bhatia
This week on the podcast, Em and Alex are joined by journalist Billie Bhatia! Back in February, the Sunday Times published an article written by Billie all about her desire to lose weight and the difficulties she has faced in the process. The girls wanted to talk to Billie and confront their own conflicting feelings and values as they are immersed in an online culture where self acceptance is key. The fear around publishing this episode is that it could trigger listeners, and despite it being purposefully confronting, if you feel the need to skip this episode, do what you need to do! This conversation dives deep into the thin ideal, the fear we have around calories, what it means to be happy and why, exactly, does Billie have the right to lose weight?

In 2013, Sian underwent a leg amputation after an accident on holiday. Sian shares how the accident affected her life, her body and her mental health. Sian found that exercise did wonders for her mind, and after feeling like an outsider and an imposter at the gym, she quickly focussed on how much her body was capable of doing. Sian went from hiding herself to proudly displaying her prosthetic leg. The girls even set you some homework at the start of this episode…
