  • 1804 - Scientists Have Discovered Gene That Allows Reproduction Without Sex

Well, Cambridge University scientists studying the animal world have discovered genes with the ability to be switched on and off in females, which allow them to reproduce independently with no need for a male. This type of reproduction is called facultative parthenogenesis and is rare and now has been documented in birds, fish and reptiles with no access to a sexual partner. In essence, these animals can experience virgin birth. Similar to the reproductive capabilities of dinosaurs, which was brought up in the movie, Jurassic Park. The virgin offspring always female were also found to retain this genetic ability once born. And thanks to climate change, it is now more common in alligators. Scientists say that parthenogenesis gives a species the ability to survive extended periods and not go extinct when no mate is available. Again, something referenced in “Jurassic Park.” Like I said earlier, it is an “ability” that can be switched on or off, and it is controlled by a single gene, truly an amazing discovery.

  • 1803 - And then it just didn't happen...

It's a quickie- Steve updates us on his trip to NYC, where he saw "An Enemy of the People" on Broadway, but failed to get to Murray's cheese shop in the East Village 🤦‍♀️ Fortunately the cheese can be mail ordered. We have feelings abut how awesome NYC is, while also sharing our first concert experiences and how they relate to the long debated battle between Sammy and Dave as the best singer in Van Halen.
