Are they really Church approved exorcists? Is the movie based real events? It’s right up there with “The Exorcist” as far as scary movies go for me. Love your work Jimmy Akin, on Catholic Answers and Mysterious World. Your knowledge and intelligence amaze me. 21:28 – Elon Musk just unveiled his neurolink program. The idea is to allow human beings to reach the next stage in their evolution, be able to keep up with the singularity, and more importantly keep up with artificial intelligence. Many people are afraid this is ushering in the end times, or is an attack on the authentic Dignity of the human person. Other people think it’s just the next logical step in human evolution or technological evolution. How do we understand this technology and its implications for humanity? Some people have even noted that the language they use is Messianic in its couching, the blind will see, and the lane will walk, etc. 28:46 – Where did the story of the little drummer boy visiting baby Jesus come from? Fri, 24 May 2024 - 5088 - #11687 Ask Me Anything - Jimmy Akin
Questions Covered: 02:27 – I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian. If I got in a time machine and teleported back to post-schism Catholic Europe (let’s say the 1400’s) would it be a sin for me to receive the sacraments there? Would it then cease to be a sin if I teleported back to anywhere in pre-schism Europe, or post-schism Russia or Greece? Would it be a sin if a modern-day Protestant tried to receive the sacraments? Additionally, would there be any conflicts with a Catholic or Orthodox Christian from our time receiving the sacraments from a medieval priest? 06:13 – On a previous episode you were talking about theophanies and christophanies and how it’s possible that any of the three persons of the Trinity could be incarnate in any event other than Christ’s birth. I assume the angel Jacob fought and the angel in the furnace with the three youths are such examples. However there are also instances where actual angels have been incarnate, such as in the hospitality of Abraham. My first question related to this is, when these theophanies, christophanies, and angels were incarnate, should we assume that they had physical bodies? My second question is can fallen angels become incarnate, and if they can, would they have physical bodies when they do so? 14:42 – Was Genesis written after Jacob’s lifetime? I’m having a conversation with a friend who believes Eve had relations with Satan, stating that the word beguiled in Hebrew means to seduce body and soul. She bore Cain from that union and that’s why Cain isn’t mentioned in the genealogy. She also says that’s why Jesus told the Pharisees they were sons of the Devil. 19:50 – The video game character “Kirby” has a unique power: He has a nearly bottomless stomach, and whenever he consumes an enemy, he temporarily gains their powers in what is called a “copy ability”. If Kirby were to be received into the Catholic Church, what would happen when he eats Christ’s body and blood in the Eucharist? 22:21 – I have heard it described that God created all the humans, angels, nature, and all of our world as an author creates characters in a book. God is a creator, and humans are sub-creators. When God created the world, he gave the beings in it various souls, vegetative for plants, sensitive for animals, and rational for humans. When a human author creates a world and a character to inhabit it, let’s say Bilbo Baggins, does that creature have a soul? Does that sub-created world have any eternity? 24:12 – I was watching Capturing Christianity with Fr. Lampert today when a caller asked about a spiritual/demonic attachment to him since living in a house where a woman was murdered by her husband. It made me think of something horrible. My mother had an abortion before having me. Could this have caused a spiritual or demonic attachment to me? I also wonder if the dramatic increase in abortion rates has anything to do with the increase in depravity in our culture, spiritually. 32:11 – I have a weird question pertaining to guardian angels and reincarnation reports. Do our guardian angels get transferred to other people when we die? For example, could my guardian angel have guarded another person who died at the same time I was conceived? Is it possible that reincarnation reports could actually be not the memories of the past lives of our souls, but the past assignments of our angels and somehow the knowledge is infused into our minds through our angels guiding and informing us? 35:25 – What do you think an alien grey meat would taste like, and would it a sin to eat one? 37:32 – If DNA haplogroups have proven all humans came from Africa roughly one hundred thousand years ago, why did God not choose an African man to create a Covenant with and likewise not choose to become incarnate with an African as Adam was? Wouldn’t it have been most fitting as Jesus is the…

Julie… Rochester, MN… I’m a cradle Catholic and I have a two-part question about baptism: I’ve had relatives who wished to have their children baptized by a priest, but the priest denied them because of their living situations and lack of practicing their faith themselves. I understand that any Christian baptism is valid as long as proper form is used, so these relatives likely could have gone to another Christian church and had their children baptized and it would have been seen as valid by the Catholic Church. So what is the reasoning for just not baptizing the children in the Catholic Church as requested, when other baptisms would be considered equally valid? It seems that the other Christian churches are more willing to offer the grace to the innocent child. Also, in the Catholic Church, holy water is used for baptism. This is not available in other Christian churches, and often not available in emergency situations either, so I’m having difficulty seeing those baptisms as equally valid. …

Questions Covered: 18:37 – I’ve been a Christian all my life and was just brought into full communion with the Catholic Church last year. I’ve always loved the story of the Prodigal Son but I’ve always been curious of what his brother represents. Is it simply jealousy and pride? Or does he signify something deeper. 29:00 – My spouse is protestant. He doesn’t want the sacrament of confirmation since he thinks it is against scripture, since scripture tells us not to make vows / oaths. He’s hung up on submitting to a Church and all it teaches. Can you help address his concern? 37:17 – Thanks for offering this again! I’m always cooking dinner when the show is live and never have free hands to call in. I have a question about the myth that most Catholic Holidays are based on Pagan holidays. I know from listening to Shameless Popery that Christmas is not on December 25 because of other pagan holidays, but it’s hard to convince other Catholics this, because many reputable Catholic sources feed this myth. For example, the St. Joseph’s Sunday Missal has a blurb in the Liturgy section stating that the date was chosen in part because of pagan winter solstice festivals. If the early Christians were so adamant at separating themselves from the pagans, why is there so much disagreement among reputable Catholic sources? 46:45 – When praying the Luminous mysteries, I have difficulty on what to meditate on with the Kingdom of God decade. 50:44 – Will all our sins be revealed to the whole world at the general judgement, including those that have been forgiven ? We’re trying to reconcile Luke 8: (For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open) and Hebrews 8:12 (For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more) 52:06 – Can some early Christian writings that did not make the canon, such as the Shepherd of Hermas, be regarded as approved private revelations, similar to those of Fatima or St. Faustina? 53:12 – “I enjoy listening to Catholic Answers as often as I can and have learned a lot! My Question: In Galatians 2:11-21, Paul confronts/rebukes Peter for refusing to eat with gentiles: “”11 But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong.”” If the successor of Peter says, thinks or does something “”very wrong,”” who, when and how is the successor confronted/rebuked or corrected?” …

Are any of their writings to the Church available anywhere? 22:42 – I’ve been discussing the sacrifice of the mass with my wife who is protestant, and I told her that we, the regular attendee, are part of the sacrifice – partakers – and how we participate frequently in Christ’s perpetual sacrifice… Could you elaborate for me? It would be great if you could take us all the way from leviticus to the images of the lamb (as sacrificed) in revelation. How are our offerings involved too? 37:10 – Does the fact that that Didache does not appear to refer specifically to the Real Presence (only mentions the “Eucharist”) pose a problem for the assertion that the Early Church did actually believe in the Real Presence, since the Didache was one of the earliest surviving documents that we have from the Early Church? 46:00 – Where does the Bible say that a book CAN’T be a valid part of the Old Testament unless it’s quoted from in the New Testament? Doesn’t that seem redundant? 13:29 – Have any credible remote viewers ever tried to remote view heaven? 23:15 – How does our doctrine of inspiration interact with 1 Cor 7:29-31? In that passage, Paul seems to assert to his original audience that the end of history was near upon them, and gives them advice which only makes sense in that context. Paul seems to change his mind later on (in other letters). But in that spot, it really seems like an assertion which is untrue. But I say this, brothers: the time is shortened, that from now on even those who have wives should be as if they do not have wives, 30 and those who weep as if they do not weep, and those who rejoice as if they do not rejoice, and those who buy as if they do not possess 31 and those who make use of the world as if they do not make full use of it. There are some things that we find funny that may be dark, edgy, and slightly irreverent but we have little control over our reflex to laugh or chuckle at such things. I keep hearing a certain strain of Christians abuse Philippians 2:7 to suggest Jesus gave up his divinity. Their reasoning is that Jesus had to sacrifice himself as a man in order to atone for humanity. Can you please debunk this? 2 Therefore, if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, 2 complete my joy, so that ⌊you are in agreement⌋, having the same love, united in spirit, ⌊having one purpose⌋. 3 Do nothing according to selfish ambition or according to empty conceit, but in humility considering one another better than yourselves, 4 each of you not looking out for your own interests⌋, but also each of you for ⌊the interests of others. 39:06 – I’ve wanted to hear your treatment of the souls of unbaptized children who die before the age of reason.
