Tue, 19 Nov 2024 - 1030 - Navigating Holiday Gatherings Without Food Guilt (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Welcome to the first part of our holiday series on Outweigh, where Amy and Leanne tackle a challenge that many listeners face during this festive season: navigating holiday gatherings without the burden of food guilt.
As the holidays approach, the temptation of indulgent foods can lead to feelings of being "out of control." We dive deep into understanding the roots of food guilt, often stemming from black-and-white thinking and the typical dieting culture that surrounds us. We'll explore how this "all-or-nothing" mentality not only perpetuates guilt but also fuels a cycle of overeating followed by restriction.
We talk about the importance of shifting from a 'scarcity' mindset—where indulgence feels like a last chance—to an 'abundance' mindset that fosters a healthier relationship with food. And we will share practical strategies and real-life examples from clients' journeys to illustrate this shift, making the holidays a time for celebration rather than guilt.

Tue, 12 Nov 2024 - 1027 - How This Female Pastor Ditched The Shame & Finally Addressed Her Biggest "Demons" (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Deedee has spent decades as a leader and source of strength in her community, supporting and guiding others while struggling silently behind closed doors. Her battle wasn’t with her role or her responsibilities—it was with food.
For years, food felt like her secret demon—something she couldn’t seem to conquer, no matter how much discipline she tried to muster. Despite her outward success and commitment to helping others, food had a grip on her life that left her feeling ashamed, defeated, and isolated.
Even though she was always giving so much of herself to others, she felt empty and disconnected when it came to her own health and relationship with food. It was a struggle she felt she had to face alone, with no one to confide in. But everything changed when Deedee finally made the choice to confront her relationship with food at its root. She realized that it wasn’t just about dieting or controlling her willpower—it was about healing the emotional wounds and unraveling the stories that were keeping her stuck.
In this episode, Deedee shares her powerful transformation journey of breaking free from the grip of food and reclaiming control of her life. If you’ve ever felt like no one would understand your struggles, or like food has a power over you that you can’t break free from, Deedee’s story is a reminder that true freedom is possible—and you don’t have to do it alone.

Tue, 05 Nov 2024 - 1024 - If Positive Mantras Feel Like a Lie, Here’s What You’re Missing (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Have you ever stood in front of the mirror, repeating mantras like “I love my body” or “I’m enough,” only to feel that little voice in your head whispering, “Who are you kidding?” In this episode of Outweigh, Leanne Ellington breaks down why the “just think positive” approach doesn’t work—and what’s really keeping you from truly loving yourself.
Leanne gets real about her own struggles—how she grew up battling food and body shame, even after losing nearly 100 pounds, and why it took more than weight loss to break free. She explains why so many women get stuck feeling like self-love and positivity are unattainable, and how those feel-good mantras can actually make you feel worse when your brain doesn’t buy into them.
So what’s missing? It’s the brain wiring beneath the surface that no amount of mantras or affirmations can fix. Leanne shares how negative beliefs and self-criticism get hardwired into your brain and create resistance—leading you to feel like a fraud. And why jumping straight to self-love can backfire if you haven’t addressed those deeper stories and beliefs that are running the show.

Thu, 31 Oct 2024 - 1022 - 5 Things You Should Never Rush + Kat’s Protein Ball Recipe (5th Thing)
Do you trust people too quickly? That is something not to rush for sure. Amy & Kat go over 5 things in life you do NOT need to rush. Amy also shares 5 ways to co-regulate with an animal (sounds odd…but it can actually be very helpful if you’re dysregulated!) They also go over what you feel like when you’re regulated vs. what you feel like when dysregulated.
Today’s Quote:
“Just had to quit my job so I would have enough time to make sure I was eating enough protein.” - Simon C. Holland
Kat’s Protein Balls:
1 cup of old fashioned oats
1 cup of quick cooking oats
¾ cup of honey
1 cup of peanut butter
2-3 scoops of protein powder (chocolate or vanilla preferably)
Chocolate semi-sweet chips to your liking (measure with love….maybe ½ cup)
2 tbsp of ground flax seed
Mix everything in a bowl. Mash up with your hands until it’s all sticking together and roll into balls. Amy thinks sprinkling a little sea salt on top of each ball would be a yummy touch.

Tue, 29 Oct 2024 - 1021 - "No One Knows I Have A Problem" (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Have you ever felt like you’re carrying a heavy secret—one that no one knows about? In this episode of Outweigh, Leanne Ellington dives deep into the struggle that so many women face but rarely talk about: feeling trapped in a hidden battle with food, body shame, and self-judgment.
Leanne opens up about her own experience of being stuck in a “food and body prison” while presenting a happy face to the world. She breaks down how shame isolates us, making us feel broken, and why this isn’t just about food or weight—it’s about the stories we tell ourselves and the shame we carry silently.
Through real-life examples of her clients’ struggles—like the superwoman hiding her midnight binges or the woman avoiding social events out of fear of being judged—Leanne explains why no diet, workout plan, or mantra will break this cycle. The solution isn’t another diet or exercise routine. It’s healing your self-image and rewiring the relationship you have with yourself.
If you’ve ever felt like food struggles were your “dirty little secret” and wondered why you can’t just “get it together,” this episode is for you. Leanne shows how breaking free isn’t about more willpower—it’s about breaking out of the shame prison and reclaiming your sense of self-worth.

OUTWEIGH: Have you ever found yourself making promise after promise to “start fresh on Monday” or “stick to your plan this time,” only to fall off track again and again? If so, you’re not alone—and today’s episode of Outweigh is for you. In this powerful episode, Leanne Ellington tackles the struggle that so many women face: breaking the cycle of broken promises and learning how to rebuild self-trust.
Leanne opens up about her own journey and explains how every broken promise and failed diet creates memories that get locked into your brain, forming a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure and eroding your trust in yourself. This cycle isn’t just about food or exercise—it’s about the emotional weight you carry when you feel like you can’t follow through.
Tune in as Leanne shares why typical diet and fitness plans fall short: they address the surface-level symptoms but not the root cause—your brain’s wiring and self-image. It’s not about “fixing” yourself—it’s about transforming your self-image and rewiring your brain for sustainable success and self-trust.

Tue, 15 Oct 2024 - 1015 - The Brain Science of Sugar Cravings (And How to Reclaim Control) (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Ever felt like a sugar addict? Like no matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to break free from its grip? In today’s episode, Leanne Ellington dives deep into the brain science behind those relentless sugar cravings and why it’s not about willpower or discipline. She shares her own struggle with food and body image—starting from a childhood weighed down by diet culture—and the truth she discovered along the way: that sugar cravings aren’t about the food at all-- they are about the BRAIN.
Leanne explains how our brains get wired to seek out quick fixes like sugar, social media, or Netflix to soothe emotional discomfort and why these “quick hits” of dopamine leave us feeling overfed but still emotionally and mentally undernourished. This episode will change how you view your cravings and help you understand what your brain really wants (hint: it’s not more sugar!).
Leanne also offers practical tips to rewire your brain and stop the cycle of cravings for good, starting with recognizing your true emotional needs and finding healthier ways to meet them. If you’ve ever felt controlled by food or like you’re stuck in a cycle of restriction, bingeing, and guilt—this episode is for you.

Tue, 08 Oct 2024 - 1012 - Trapped in Diet Prison for 4 Decades: How This Therapist Found Freedom at 54 (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Susan had been living in a 40-year food and diet prison, and she didn't know how to get out.
Diets eluded her, and even though she had hope that there was a better way to go about her relationship with food, her body, and her health, she was almost at that point that she felt helpless.
Food and her body was a topic that carried a lot of shame and guilt. And she had almost completely convinced herself that this was "just the way things were going to be".
Her relationship with herself and those around her was suffering which added another level of guilt caused by not showing up as the woman, wife, mom, and therapist that she knew wanted to be.
Feeling she had tried everything under the sun, Susan scheduled a call with me and took a leap of faith to finally commit to herself.
Accepting that the road to peace, love and happiness with herself was a long term game, she began taking steps toward healing her body & mind and reclaiming her life-- not committing to another diet.
And as you'll learn, it's never too late!

Tue, 01 Oct 2024 - 1009 - Listener Q&A: The Truth About Orthorexia (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: In this final episode of the Outweigh Q&A series, we’re diving into a listener question about Orthorexia. While pretty much everyone knows what an Eating Disorder is, most have never even heard of this thing called Disordered Eating. An even lesser known (and talked about) form of Disordered Eating is something called Orthorexia.
Orthorexia is when someone takes their health to an extreme, and they inhabit an excessive preoccupation or obsession with eating healthy food. According to The National Eating Disorders Association Orthorexia entails: Obsessive focus on food choices, food regarded primarily as source of health rather than pleasure; distress or disgust when in proximity to prohibited foods; periodic shifts in dietary beliefs; moral judgment of others based on their dietary choices; body image distortion; persistent belief that dietary practices are health-promoting despite evidence of experiencing malnutrition...and the list goes on, and on, and on.
And because of all of the misinformation that's being thrown at us, Orthorexia is spreading like a wildfire -- ESPECIALLY in the female population. The EFFECT of all of this? An extremely DISORDERED relationship with food. And if you're like most women out there, you've been exposed to the 'Dark Side' of the health industry for a very long time, and it's super important that you know what to look out for to make sure that YOUR health journey....stays....healthy!
Listen in to an interview with Leanne and Laura Lea Bryant where they unpack this super-important topic (and Laura Lea shares her personal experiences....and her experience as an influencer in the health and wellness world).HOSTS:

Amy was diagnosed with ADHD in college (over 20 years ago) and it’s been a journey of learning why her brain is this way and trying out strategies to help ever since. Amy is not an expert and she doesn’t want to come off as one…she is just a curious person that shares her own experiences and what she’s gathered so that you can feel supported and less alone if ADHD paralysis is something you struggle with. Amy starts by breaking down what ADHD paralysis is, what is happening when it kicks in, and what triggers it. She wraps up with strategies to overcome it and sends encouragement to loved ones of someone with ADHD.

Thu, 26 Sep 2024 - 1007 - You Can Be Glad a Relationship Is Over & Miss the Person Deeply (5th Thing)
Amy & Kat start off with levity by sharing the last texts that made them laugh. However, Kat's text is about something that really hurt her feelings. What she shares is an important reminder of what NOT to say to a woman, but at least she can laugh about it now. Amy practices a line she is working on that may help her get certain needs met...and it might work for you...it's a good line for sure. They also read & discuss a couple of listener emails: one about ending a friendship & another about a weird food combo that is so yummy for fall. Other topics: Reese Witherspoon wearing Sneax (does she really like these shoes??), the word of the week, and here's the list of things that can be true at the same time that Amy shares:
- You can love your parents AND acknowledge the ways they hurt you.
- You can set boundaries AND still be a good employee
- You can be glad a relationship is over AND still miss the person deeply
- You can prioritize rest AND still be successful
- You can need emotional support AND still be a strong personQUOTE:

Thu, 19 Sep 2024 - 1004 - Are Skinny Jeans Really Back In Style? (5th Thing)
Amy & Kat say wear whatever makes you feel good and also if you like to keep up with trends...word has it skinny jeans are back for fall 2024. Need tips regarding skinny jeans + boots to stay more current this season?? Amy & Kat have you covered...as they've been researching for themselves. They also talk about friendships (per today's awesome quote + Amy tried to convince Kat to watch Emily in Paris), they discover a 'word of the week' while going over styling tips for boots with jeans, they share who to follow on IG for fashion inspo/help & more!
Today's Quote:
“The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve understood how truly important it is to have, not necessarily a big group, but a group that makes you feel big. And I have met some of those amazing women – and also men – that make me feel like the biggest version of myself in the last five years. I always thought that you had to have friends for decades in order to understand you and to stand up for you. And I've learned that when it is that you know who you are as a person and as a woman, and to be able to see that in other people, and encourage them to be the best versions of themselves, and the strongest versions of themselves, they in turn do the same for me.” – Lily Collins (Actress from Emily in Paris)
Fashion tips mentioned are from @bestyledco_...check out their page for all kinds of helpful content....Amy & Kat were watching all of their style tips...they also like @nextdoorlife & @velvetsedge for outfit ideas.

It's an OG style 4 Things episode with Therapy Kat!
First Thing: Amy and Kat explore what ChatGPT would define as the five key qualities of a perfect romantic relationship, imagining how it might answer if it were a relationship expert. Does the internet really know romance though??
Second Thing: Narcissist and Sociopath get thrown around a lot, but what about the real important question: How do you spot someone with no soul? No emotions and no guilt are just a few things to look out for!
Third Thing: Amy is finally ready to talk about her dating life....on Monday's episode of Kat's podcast, You Need Therapy. But that doesn't mean they can't talk a little about it here! They go over 27 signs (or maybe just a few from this list) that a guy may like you as more than just a friend, sharing tips on how to read between the lines. And just like this past Tuesday's 5th Thing episode, there may be another surprise phone call in this 'Thing'!
Fourth Thing: Amy and Kat wrap up with a few weird food combinations that they have heard about or tried. Since producer and editor Houston is typing this, his two favorites (that are not mentioned in this) are a waffle with cottage cheese, add a little salt and pepper and enjoy OR two cooked eggs, folded into an omelette style shape, put some peanut butter on top after it's cooked, and get your entire daily dose of protein in one go!

Sat, 07 Sep 2024 - 999 - Your Brain’s Response to Trauma: Finding Strength & Gratitude with Dr. Lee Warren
Did you know that we have 30,000 - 40,000 thoughts per day & most of them are not true? They're made up of a host of chemical signals that we interpret as feelings, which you make meaning out of, based on your past experiences. Amy's guest Dr. Lee Warren (neurosurgeon, veteran & author) is on to discuss our thoughts, our brain's response to trauma & how finding solid ground during a time of suffering is imperative for our brain + overall well being.
Dr. Lee shares his personal journey with the sudden death of his son and how he maintained hope during this season by leaning into his faith + creating positive-thinking neural pathways. Dr. Lee reminds us that two things can be true at the same time...it's not ok when you lose someone you love, but at the same time it is true that you can be happy, connect with new people, and become a more compassionate person.
We love Dr. Lee's 'biopsy your thoughts' exercise...after you have an upsetting thought, ask yourself: “Is this really true?” And then remind yourself, “not everyone in my life is going to do this to me.” By doing this, you put an executive decision in between the stimulus and the response. This will reliably produce better outcomes for you than if you just react to whatever you think or feel.
Lastly, Dr. Lee and Amy talk about why gratitude is so important for the health of your brain and how it is actually the BEST way to combat anxiety. He also shares 4 things he is currently grateful for.

Tue, 20 Aug 2024 - 991 - What's God Got To Do With It? The Faith-Science Body Image Connection (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Welcome back for Part 5 of the official crossover series of the "What’s God Got To Do With It?" and Outweigh podcasts.
This week we’re diving deep into a crucial part of the food and body image conversation—what Leanne likes to call your “body brain.”
If you’ve been following along, you know we’ve been exploring how faith intersects with our struggles around food and self image. Today, we’re turning our focus to the physical side of things, and how your body (and your perception of it) are deeply intertwined.
We’ll be looking at this from both a nervous system and physiological perspective, but we can’t ignore the importance of how you view your body and your relationship with it.
This episode isn’t about offering a quick fix; it’s about helping you understand the deeper layers that contribute to your struggles.Leanne also shares her personal journey of overcoming her own body image (and chronic pain) battles, so you can see that real, lasting change is possible...but it starts with breaking the chains of your own harsh self-criticism, guilt, and shame.
The hope is that by the end of this episode, you’ll feel empowered to start dismantling your own beliefs and step into a new story about your body. Remember, this isn’t just about what you weigh or how you look—it’s about freeing yourself from the heavy burden of judgment and stepping into a place of peace and self-compassion.

Thu, 15 Aug 2024 - 989 - Manage Chaos & Unleash Joy + Kat's Narcissistic Trait (5th Thing)
Such a fun chat! Amy & Kat have a special guest...Amanda Rieger Green (Amy's psychic cousin!) Conversation starts around today's quote which is from Alissa Boyer: “You can be the nicest, kindest person, and you still may be the villain in someone else’s story. Have you ever had to deal with someone thinking you're a villain when really you just needed to set a boundary? They touch on how to handle this!
Amy reads a special email from a listener named Susan from Austin and she's also written a really cool book that you may need in your life: Art for Your Sanity— How Art Journaling Can Help You Manage Chaos and Unleash Joy (she wrote this book after hearing Ally Fallon on the podcast...which is so special!!)
Do you have good work boundaries? (i.e. not working at certain times or sending emails during work hours) They each share how they've implemented different rules around when they will send work notes to people....and it's stuff that could be a gamechanger for all!
BONUS QUOTE:

OUTWEIGH: Welcome back for Part 4 of the official crossover series of the "What’s God Got To Do With It?" and Outweigh podcasts.
If you’ve been struggling with disordered eating patterns, restrictive diets, or feeling chained to unhealthy eating habits, this conversation is for you. We talk about how inviting God into your journey can help break those chains, allowing you to step into a new identity rooted in peace, love, and TRUE freedom.
We explore the concept of the "food brain" and how it’s wired to seek comfort and connection through unhealthy coping mechanisms like overeating, mindless scrolling, or other habits that distract from what your soul truly needs.
This episode isn’t about quick fixes or surface-level solutions; it's about understanding the root of your struggles and learning to meet them with compassion, solution-focused care, and faith.
If you’re ready to shift your focus from fighting with your body to truly healing your relationship with food, this conversation will guide you toward that transformation, with God right by your side.HOST: Leanne Ellington // StresslessEating.com // @leanneellington

Tue, 06 Aug 2024 - 985 - What's God Got To Do With It? Reinventing Your Self-Image For 3-Dimensional Health (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Welcome back for Part 3 of the official crossover series of the "What’s God Got To Do With It?" and Outweigh podcasts.
Last week, we explored the big picture of this conversation, and this week we narrow the focus to the self-image and identity piece of this food and body puzzle. We discuss the necessity of stepping into a new version of yourself if you really want to achieve true health and freedom in your relationship with food and your body.
We talk about WHY transforming your self-image is crucial on a neuroscience level, and how it's not about what you eat-- but who you truly believe yourself to be.
Only this time around, you're invited to address the roots of your identity and self-image in a way that aligns with God's view of yourself, instead of worldly and societal standards.
And of course, we get a little 'geeky' and explore the Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC), and its significant role in self-perception, emotional and physical pain, and your coping mechanisms, AND how this is particularly important for women, whose ACCs are more active than men's. Throughout the episode, you'll hear scripture AND evidence-based research that supports the transformative power of faith.
Dive on in to learn how integrating faith and science can lead to building YOUR new identity, free from the burdens of shame and self-rejection, and discover what it truly means to see yourself as God sees you.HOST: Leanne Ellington // StresslessEating.com // @leanneellington

Mon, 29 Jul 2024 - 981 - What's God Got To Do With It? Connecting the Dots: Science, Faith, Food, and Body Love (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Welcome back for Part 2 of the official crossover series of the "What’s God Got To Do With It?" and Outweigh podcasts.
Today, we're diving deep into the intersection of faith, science, food, and body image. This is the big picture conversation -- where these themes overlap, so you can simply understand this connection between neuroscience and faith...and how it can lead to meaningful, lasting transformation in our lives.
Leanne shares (for her) how embracing this dialogue meant confronting her skeptical, science-driven mindset and inviting a God-centered perspective into areas she was previously tackling through her own might, and how this approach completed her story and aligned with her fascination with the brain and nervous system.
She addresses topics like: Why do our brains play tricks on us? Why do we do what we do? Why can't we seem to shake life-long habits?
With references to biblical scripture and modern neuroscience studies, Leanne highlights the transformative power of aligning your thoughts with a higher spiritual perspective.
And of course you are invited to invite God into the conversation, recognizing that true transformation involves cultivating a new identity rooted in faith and understanding the profound connection between mind, body, and spirit...and self-image.

Wed, 24 Jul 2024 - 978 - “I Want to Rip Your Face Off” & More (5th Thing)
From fun recommendations to vulnerable journal entries, Amy & Kat talk about all kinds of things! Amy found a journal documenting her first 8 days of being a mom when her kids arrived from Haiti and, well, after reading through them, she realized her experience was far more difficult than she recalls (case in point: the quote in the title of this episode about the desire to rip a face off...yep THAT is something Amy said to her then husband, Ben, at the time!) Kat shares with us a psychological phenomenon called rosy retrospection which is remembering something more positively than it was actually experienced. That was clearly a tough season for Amy...that led to some laughs with Kat during this episode. They also do a little show & tell sharing some items/things they've been into lately (see links below for some stuff mentioned!) + remember per Kat's things: cross the simple things off your list & if at first you don't succeed.....paint the canvas white and try again!

Tue, 23 Jul 2024 - 977 - What's God Got To Do With It? A Woman's Guide To Food & Body Freedom (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: We are so excited to bring you the first official crossover series of the "What’s God Got To Do With It?" and Outweigh podcasts.
If you have been listening to Outweigh, you know that THAT podcast is all about helping women break themselves out of the food and body prison, end the dieting madness, and take control of their health for good, but without all that restriction, obsession, and shame…and without dragging it out for years to address it.
And if you’ve been listening to "What’s God Got To Do With It?", you know that it's all about the fusion of where science meets Faith and where faith meets transformation and miracles. So this crossover series is a beautiful opportunity to talk about the crossover of where science meets food…& body image… & self image struggles…AND where THAT intersects FAITH (or what’s God got to do with allll of that?)
And that’s exactly what this 6 part series is all about:
Part 1 is an introduction and setting up this massive topic.
Part 2 is all about the big picture of where faith meets science meets food & body image.
Part 3 goes deep into the self image and identity that you need to actually step into the version of you that would have THAT health, that would have THAT relationship with food and her body, who would actually be at peace and feel free….…and of course how that fuses with this faith-brain conversation.
Part 4 dives deeper into What God has to do with (what Leanne calls) your ‘food brain’ and disordered eating patterns, and filling voids in your head, heart, and spirit with food (or whatever your drug of choice is)…and it’s a hole that will never be filled by those things.
Part 5 dives into the complicated relationship that women have with their bodies and their body image (and physical pain – a topic often avoided), and how to heal all of that from a faith-meets-science perspective.... AND invite God into the conversation.
And then wrapping it up in part 6, we get into the strategy side of things. As in, what does it look like to use what you’ve learned about neuroscience and faith and healing your relationship with food and your body image to go create a winning game plan that sets you up to win AND one that your brain just learns so you can go live your life, food can be food, and you can feel comfortable in your skin and free from the chains of restricting or punishing your body.
So let’s dive in! Enjoy Part 1.HOST: Leanne Ellington // StresslessEating.com // @leanneellington

Tue, 09 Jul 2024 - 970 - Are You ‘The Girl Who Cried Wolf? (Here’s What’s REALLY Causing Self-Sabotage) (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Have you ever gone to start a new plan or program, and on the surface you’re gung- ho — ready to take it by the reins, deeply committed, and hoping (praying!) that this time really IS different — that this will be ‘the thing’ that changes everything for you… but secretly in the back of your mind, you’re WAITING for it to fail?
Perhaps you’re even outright EXPECTING it to fail, because you know in your heart-of-hearts that even though the plan or the program itself might be different…you know deep down that YOU haven’t changed — that you haven’t gotten your mind, your head, your brain, and your heart aligned in a way that WOULD cause things to be different?
I see this happening ALL the time. Heck, it's exactly how I used to feel each time I started out some new plan or method that (eventually) I just STOPPED talking about it or telling anyone altogether. And in this episode of Outweigh we are going to talk about why this REALLY happens, how to earn back your own trust, and how to never become the "Girl Who Cried Wolf" ever again.

Sat, 06 Jul 2024 - 969 - The Best Way to Find Yourself
Do you ever ask yourself: “How can I serve today?” One of the simplest ways to get to your highest self (and out of ego) is to serve others. Leanne Ellington joins Amy for this chat and they each share how they have been selfish in the past (and sometimes still can be!) but they both now very much strive for and strongly align with this affirmation: “I am here to be truly helpful.” The desire to give (and not get) puts us in an awesome energetic state that leaves us feeling more full and in tune with who we truly are!
Amy shares 4 quotes about service that offer solid encouragement as you look for ways to serve others:
- “I start every day by wanting more for others than I do for myself. I think that is how God works, and that is how I think we have to work.” - Wayne Dyer
- “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” - Mahatma Gandhi
- “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” - Muhammad Ali
- “Our prayers for others flow more easily than those for ourselves. This shows we are made to live by charity.” - C. S. Lewis

Dr. Josie takes listener calls, gives advice on finding a solid pet-sitter, recounts her friend’s horror story with a not-so-great pet-sitter, and tells one caller what to do about her dog having accidents in its bed. Dr. Josie and Shannon wrap up the episode with PAW & ORDER. The segment where Dr. Josie gives a list of things she’d NEVER do with her pets. This week’s PAW & ORDER focuses on what Dr. Josie would keep out of her pets’ reach that they like to eat but shouldn’t. If you liked this episode, please leave a rating & subscribe!

Amy & Kat talk about their life hardships that have now become jokes told around the dinner table…in a good way. Adelyn (Amy’s niece) also shares an embarrassing crisis of her own that she hid from her boyfriend, but she finally told him and now they laugh about it.
In health news, Amy’s worried about her kidney stone because she learned that hot summer weather is horrible for kidney stones. She goes over signs that your kidney stone is about to pass and how to make staying hydrated more fun this summer (which we can all benefit from, whether we have kidney stones or not!)

Sat, 15 Jun 2024 - 955 - A Bittersweet Approach to Life & Living Without Regret
Amy’s niece, Adelyn, joins again (ep. 2 of 4) and this time they’re talking about the bittersweet parts of life + living without regret + chasing your dreams + PIMPINJOY (spreading joy to others!) This chat is 2 of 4 that will happen this month and we love having Adelyn’s perspective on life.
Adelyn shares her experience of feeling both the bitterness of her losing her grandma (AKA: Marmie / Amy’s mom) to cancer and the sweetness of the impact and legacy that lives on through PIMPINJOY! Marmie also inspired a research paper Adelyn did this last semester on living without regret because something Marmie realized as she was dying, sadly, was that she didn’t chase her dreams….she didn’t even really let herself dream.
Patriotic PIMPINJOY line launches today! Check it out HERE…everything turned out so cute!!! The Bobby Bones Show partners with Building Homes for Heroes every year to help build a veteran a home. ALL proceeds are donated. Shout out Bobby’s wife, Caitlin, for this year’s designs & The Shop Forward for helping make it all possible. It's all perfect for the 4th of July!

Sat, 01 Jun 2024 - 947 - At the End of Your Rope? Don't Give Up, What Is Coming is Better Than What Is Gone
Last week we had Walker Hayes on for the 3rd time and this week we have Steven Young back for a 3rd time. Steven is the Founder of 'Home Street Home' and he has a very bittersweet story of redemption (he was homeless for 5 years and then 10 years ago made a change and started a ministry serving the homeless!) You'll hear some of Steven's story weaved into today's episode, but if you want more of his fascinating life story in full....listen to his 2 previous chats with Amy: ep. 96 (from Dec 2019) and ep. 256 (from June 2021)
The theme of today's episode was a surprise to Steven and it's truly special hearing him share in this way (through 4 different poems/stories....a gift of his that Amy wanted to highlight) and the discussions of hope + healing that follow each one. The 4 poems/stories are linked below if you want to reference later or share with others:
1- May 1st, What Was Almost the Beginning of the End
4- That Still Small Voice
Amy & Steven also talk about ways you can support our homeless friends during the summer months or any time of year for that matter. One of the ways won't cost you a penny. :)

Thu, 16 May 2024 - 938 - We All Eat Lies When Our Hearts Are Hungry (5th Thing)
A listener named Val sent us a great email full of amazing quotes that guided Amy's chat with Kat for this episode. Val divided them into 2 categories: serious & funny...we appreciate both (they're all listed below) and in addition to the quotes Kat played a round of "Make It Or Break It" with Amy (to see what she's down with when it comes to dating!)
SERIOUS:
- The tighter we cling to an identity, the harder it becomes to grow beyond it.
- I have already lost touch with a couple of people I used to be
- You will find that it is necessary to let things go; simply for the reason that they are heavy.
- Buy less, choose well.
- We all eat lies when our hearts are hungry
- Just because you don't look like somebody who you think is attractive doesn't mean you aren't attractive. Flowers are pretty, but so are Christmas lights and they look nothing alike.
- Everyone you meet always asks if you have a career, are married or own a house as if life was some kind of grocery list. But no one ever asks if you are happy.
FUNNY:- I've moved past having a depressive episode. I am actually having a depressive series. Season 8 available now.
- I'm not a licensed interior designer but I just figured out you can make a room look 30% bigger if you put away the 14 loads of laundry on the floor.
- Neighbor said hi again...I'm just gonna move.
- Lucky for me, I don't have enough friends for an intervention
- I don't understand your specific kind of crazy, but I do admire your total commitment to it.
- My room is not dirty. I just have everything on display...like a museum.
- Some of you youths are going to be really disappointed when you discover that turning
- 30 just means that you still have all the same weird interests but you can't turn your head all the way to the left anymore.
- Hey, sorry for being so anxious earlier, I had no idea that everything would be fine.
- I keep telling people that a vanilla soy latte is technically a three bean soup, but nobody understands. They just nod and smile like I'M the crazy one.
- I found out why I'm still single. Apparently, you have to go outside and let people see you.

Mon, 13 May 2024 - 936 - Binge-Free Brain Part 4: It's Not Just in Your Head! Understanding the Physical Effects of Emotional Pain (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Amy and Leanne are back for Part 4 of Binge-Free Brain where they explore the mind-blowing connection between emotional and physical pain. Did you know a key area of your brain, the ACC, houses a large number of receptors for both? This means emotional hurt can literally feel like physical pain, which can trigger us to seek comfort in food. We'll delve deeper into the concept of "sensory mismatch" and how it relates to fibromyalgia and other conditions. This episode will unveil the surprising reasons why emotional distress might manifest as cravings, helping you develop more effective coping mechanisms for lasting change.

Sat, 11 May 2024 - 935 - How to Better Understand Yourself
Amy starts off with '4 Things Gratitude' sharing with you 4 things she's currently thankful for & hopefully through her gratitude you'll learn about some things to check out & then she shares some words of wisdom from Ally Fallon that will lead living life with more purpose & confidence.
FIRST THING: She's selling her house & here's the YouTube video she references "Declutter Your Home: The Ultimate Guide to Selling Fast | How to Get Rid of Your Stuff." (this is helpful for anyone...not just if you're selling your home!)
SECOND THING: Amy changed the energy of her home to an 8. What does that mean?? Well, read this Address Numerology blog that Amanda wrote and listen to this episode where Amanda told Amy about why she needs to change her home from a 2 to an 8 and it will all make more sense!
THIRD THING: Amy has felt so pulled together lately thanks to her new Yellow Rose by Kendra Scott jewelry. All of the pieces are so cute, cowgirl vibes & ranch inspired because 'country is cool again!' Girls trip to Austin anytime soon? Go by the Yellow Rose store hat bar and get custom hats to always remember the trip....so fun!
FOURTH THING: Ally Fallon's book launch party was on Tuesday night, so Write Your Story: A Simple Framework to Understand Yourself, Your Story, and Your Purpose in the World is officially out in the world and ready for people to read. Donald Miller read his forward for the book at the party and I loved his opening lines: "Years ago, I met a psychologist who gave me some advice about choosing friends. She said this: 'choose people who have a story to tell, rather than those who tell stories.'" Such a good quote. Ally feels strongly that writing our stories helps us understand ourselves so we can live with more purpose and confidence.
FUN FACT: Ally's Write Your Story Podcastis on Amy's network, so she's highlighting an episode that Ally put up last month that further dives into why writing our stories is so helpful....even if we never plan on anyone else reading it. This is such a good listen If you feel like you’re telling the same story over and over again....like the details may change (new boss, new partner, new hometown) but the cycle of the story keepings repeating itself.

Tue, 07 May 2024 - 933 - Binge-Free Brain Part 3: Beyond Biology - How Your Female Brain Shapes Your Relationship with Food (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Ready to understand Binge Eating from the perspective of the female brain specifically? Part 3 of Binge-Free Brain dives into the fascinating science of the female brain. Did you know the Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC) plays a crucial role in our desire for connection, and when that need isn't met, it can lead to bingeing? We'll explore the key brain regions that differ between men and women, explaining why women are actually MORE susceptible to emotional eating. This episode will empower you to see binge eating as a response to unmet needs -- NOT a personal failing -- paving the way for a more compassionate and effective approach to healing.

Sat, 04 May 2024 - 932 - The Power of Innocent Confidence & More with Mackenzie Porter
There’s no such thing as having it all. Every success takes sacrifice. Amy’s guest today is actress, singer, song-writer, wife & brand new mom, Mackenzie Porter! With her packed career and being in entertainment, Mackenzie definitely asked herself: “Can I have a baby and continue my work?” (a thought none of us should have, but we most certainly do!) This leads to a quote from Shonda Rhimes that we love: “Whenever you see me somewhere succeeding in one area of my life, that almost certainly means I am failing in another area of my life.” Her point being there’s no balance or “having it all” because perfection is impossible and we need not have those standards or be expected to do it all…just work hard and do our best where we are in each moment.
Mackenzie grew up on a bison and cattle ranch in Canada….so obviously Amy asks her if she knows the Bison Storm Analogy! They also talk about how Mackenzie started taking piano, violin and singing lessons at just 4-years-old, her acting career (Amy loved the show Travelers she was in on Netflix a while back), what it’s like to work with actors and other singers, shooting her shot with Walker Hayes, her new album ‘Nobody’s Born With a Broken Heart’ + songs on it, how writing is therapeutic, not comparing ourselves to others on social media & 4 Things Gratitude: Mackenzie shared 1) what she’s thankful for today, a show she’s obsessed with, a song she loves and a drink that’s been bringing her joy during this season of life!
