Humans are storytelling machines. You and I are constantly creating, destroying, elevating, and diminishing ourselves with our inner narratives that appear and disappear in our minds 24/7. Most people are not aware of this process. As a result, they believe that life is happening to them. This feels random, chaotic, and scary. Why do people tolerate it? Because they tell themselves, "That's the way it is. That is reality." Those seven words could not be farther from the truth. This podcast will explore the storytelling process that is responsible for every facet of your life. It will discuss and encourage ways to take control of your personal narrative so that you can begin directing your destiny with an empowering story.

Sun, 20 Aug 2023 - 07min - 345 - What's A Story?
Do you really know what a story is? Seems like a silly question, right? Actually, it's the most import question you ever ask?
This episode reveals:
Why stories are not just entertainmentAn empowering definition of storyThe role of religious storiesThe power of personal storiesWhy you must fully own your inner storiesYou'll also discover:
Why you are an actorThe true nature of your identityHow to rewrite your personal storyHow to gain new personal power and freedomTue, 08 Aug 2023 - 07min - 344 - The Exponential Story
The most important story for you to understand, right now in 2023, and moving forward, is THE EXPONENTIAL STORY. The meaning of that statement has everything to do with dinosaurs.
The dinosaur was king of the Cretaceous Period of planet Earth. That was few years ago. 66 million years to be exact. It was a very hot humid world; most land was submerged under massive oceans.
Can you guess how many years the dinos dominated the earth? If you guessed 100 million years, you are BINGO, correct!
With that kind of staying power, you'd think Dino Dino would be around forever. Oops! An asteroid suddenly appears in the sky. This is one mother of a flying fragment. 10 km wide! Just slightly smaller than San Francisco.
This extraterrestrial intruder decides to land in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Not a gentle landing. It explodes with a blast that releases 2 million times more energy than the largest nuclear bomb ever exploded. This is literally a killer landing.
Megatsunamis, earthquakes, firestorms, and volcanic eruptions swallow the Earth. The sun disappears behind a huge dust cloud and peeps its rays out only 10 years later. That dramatic fanfare was King Dino's last stand.
It was bye-bye Dino, and hello nimble resilient Homo Sapiens. Your ancestors and mine became the new kings of the Earth. Throw a party whydonchya, we're still in charge. Really?
You probably guessed it. The party is about to end. Correction. The party has ended, but most of the guests don't know it. And unless they wake up right away, they will join the dinosaurs in extinction.
The new asteroid has already struck our world. It's called Exponential Technology. Hey, don't believe me. Go directly to the source of the information I'm sharing. You can take a deep fascinating dive into the subject in a factual book that reads like a great adventure novel. The title is Bold: How to Go Big, Create Wealth, and Impact the World, by Peter Diamandis and Steven Kotler.
This book is not just an eye-opener. It's an alarm call to the 21st century. It's also a playbook for the openminded to reinvent themselves and experience levels of abundance and wealth that they haven't even dreamed about yet.
Bold is a call to action for you to write a new story and live into it.
If you only take one thing from this podcast today, let it be this. Developing an exponential mindset is not an option if you want live with dignity, joy, wealth, and freedom. Yes, wealth is an integral part of the formula.
The book will challenge you to explore different paths to physical, spiritual, and financial wealth. It will reveal how exponential thinking affects every part of your life and the lives of those you care for.
One area that should get your immediate attention is the way you earn money. Most people struggle with money because they are married to linear earning models. What's a linear earning model. The most obvious and prevalent is what we call a job. Working for an hourly wage or a salary, even a lucrative one is still a linear approach to earning money.
What's wrong with that? It puts a ceiling on what you can earn as you trade your limited time (we all have just 24 hours each day) for money.
I will come back to the battle between linear and exponential thinking in future podcasts. In fact every episode I create will touch on this most important story of the 21st century - The Exponential Story.
Understand it, embrace it, and let it change your story and change your life. Or, ignore it and be caught like a deer in the headlights when this happens. (EXPLOSION)

YOU ARE YOUR STORY
Episode Details
The dictionary defines story as "an account of imaginary or real people and events told for entertainment."
Wow! The problem phrase in that definition is "told for entertainment." If all stories are told for entertainment, then they don't have much to do with our happiness, relationships, and income. They are just forms of distraction.
That's a dangerous view of stories. Why? Because every action you take, the place you decide to live, the people you spend time with, your happiness and unhappiness, your wealth or struggle for money are all the result of the narratives that you create and allow to shape and define your life.
If you want more empowerment and joy in your life, start thinking of stories as collections of thoughts organized in such a way as to create meaning in your life. That meaning can elevate your or diminish you. It can fill you with energy, trust, and hope, or it can fill you with anxiety, mistrust, and dread.
Everything you believe about yourself, others, and the world, is based on STORIES.
Religious stories shape our beliefs about the origins and the ultimate goal of our lives. Political stories define our degree of freedom or our bondage. Your personal stories determine your happiness or suffering, your social status, and your income.
Here's the thing. Most people are unaware of their constant storytelling. And, they shy away from taking responsibility for their stories. So, their stories are creating their lives and their destinies.
This podcast will explore the implications of that on your happiness, income, and freedom. Plus, it will show you how to step up and choose to Change Your Story & Change Your Life.

ARE THERE PROFESSIONAL VICTIMS?
I wish I could answer no, but I can't. Unfortunately, the truth is that there are many professional victims, and their club is growing exponentially in today's world.
This episode explores the victim mindset that I have labelled Rearden Syndrome. The name refers to a principal character, Hank Rearden, in Ayn Rand's 1957 novel, Atlas Shrugged. The book quickly became an entrepreneur's manifesto, and it still is today.
Our podcast guest is Randy Gage, a mega-successful entrepreneur, multi-millionaire, international award winning speaker, and prosperity trainer and coach to people around the world who are committed to their personal and financial growth. Atlas Shrugged has been and still is a powerful inspirational book for Randy.

Will You Dare to Fly Too High?
This episode explores the powerful social story that controls many of our lives today.
It is a story that demands our obedience, our conformity, our silence, and our willingness to destroy our dreams that challenge the status quo.
It is a story that made the industrial age and corporate culture dominant for many decades. It is a story that is disintegrating. But, it still hold son to us and stops us from creating, growing, and standing out.
In 2020, we are living in the Connection Age , the Connection Economy. To be fully alive in this new and exciting time, we must not conform. We must, instead, find the courage to create art. I'm not talking about paintings, or sculptures, or music.
You may create those. But, art, in the Connection Age, means your unique authentic voice, your STORY.
These liberating ideas are from a wonderful book, The Icarus Deception, by Seth Godin.
You deserve to listen to this episode. It will help you unleash your pure, strong, authentic voice. It will help you give yourself full permission to create, stop worrying about others' approval, and, ultimately, feel fully alive.

Sat, 29 Feb 2020 - 26min - 336 - 222: Your Beliefs Are Stories
Humans are hardwired to feel that their beliefs are real. We filter all that we see and hear through our beliefs and think that the world we perceive is objective reality.
There is so much evidence to prove that all beliefs are just made up stories. Why do we make them up? In order to feel that our lives are on solid ground. There is an upside to that. There is also a major downside.
Our beliefs often clash with the beliefs of others. If we hold on to our narratives tightly we will experience discord, even violence and unhappiness.
Also, if we insist that our beliefs are object reality, it becomes hard for us to empathize with and understand people with very different beliefs than others. And, our blindness makes us vulnerable to unconsciously adopting beliefs that can harm us and others.
A great example of a belief that was passionately held as true was the idea that the German people were the master race,and that Jews were subhumans who should be exterminated. We must not forget that a large segment of German society embraced that belief without question. More importantly, the people who embraced Naziism were, for the most part, ordinary human beings like you and me.
The moment we get beyond our fear of letting beliefs go and accepting that they are stories, we step into the power to create any narrative we want to enrich and empower our lives.

FRIDAY STORY
What is the Friday story? It’s the universal freedom cry of people who trade their time for money each week from Monday to Friday.
The expression TGIF makes people smile and celebrate time away from responsibility and, often, boredom.
But, is the Friday story something to smile about? It can be. And, it can also be a trap that keeps people stuck in unfulfilling work and mediocrity.
This episode explores the TGIF mindset. It aims to raise your awareness about the story you tell yourself that defines your work, your goals, and your dreams.
The TGIF story has three components:
* The Friday feeling
* The Friday habit
* The Friday story

Have you ever heard the expression, you are your worst enemy? You’ve heard it and probably have said it.
This episode explores that expression that many of us regard as innocent. We take a close look at how those words impact our lives, and, often, steal our happiness.
We also look at how “You are your worst enemy” is a narrative built on other narratives.
The goal of this episode is to raise your awareness about the stories that are all too familiar to us that we tell ourselves daily, stories that are actually deadly.
Specifically, the episode focuses on three distinct narrative and areas of our lives:
* Achievement and the narratives of self sabotage that undermine it
* Personal relationships and defensive narratives that prevent intimacy and growth
* Financial stories that keep us safe and well within our comfort zone
I offer you the challenge to question all the stories that keep you safe and comfortable, and ultimately prevent true growth and happiness.Wed, 14 Aug 2019 - 12min - 328 - 214: Power of Story

CRAZY STORIES
You’re probably familiar with the idea of self talk. Maybe, you’re too familiar with it. You just assume you know what it is, so you take it for granted.
You understand self talk in your head. But, you don’t pay close attention to it in your daily life. Don’t worry. You are not alone.
This episode looks closely at the real power of self talk to enrich your life, or to destroy it. When self talk happens automatically and is not monitored it can create crazy stories.
Crazy stories are vivid narratives that sometimes lead to horrible actions. In this episode, we explore the self talk that triggers the violent actions of young school shooters.
When a human being loses it, goes ballistic, and explodes into a murderous rampage that ends the lives of many people, we are usually at a loss to explain the killer’s motives and actions.
We distance ourselves from the horror by labelling the person crazy. It makes us feel safe. We are sane, and the killer is crazy. It seems to put us in different worlds that are far apart. That’s just a coping mechanism. A story we create to protect our world and our identity.
Crazy stories in the minds of young school shooters are usually about deep unresolved feelings of insignificance. When people feel insignificant, they view the world as a very lonely, dark, and hostile place. Their self talk creates vivid painful stories that make their distorted view of life seem very real and unchangeable.
When the pain becomes too intense, people sometimes explode into violence to feel powerful, to be seen, heard, talked about, and remembered.
You and I all have some negative self talk that portrays us as smaller and less significant than we really are. It’s important to acknowledge that self talk and transform it.
You will find a powerful resource in this episode for developing a healthy empowering self image. That resource is called, The Ways of the Wizard, twenty life affirming and life transforming declarations that you can use daily to attract more of what you want into your life.

WHO WRITES YOUR STORY?
Is your life based on lies, made-up stories, or noble beliefs? What if they are all the same thing? Then, the important question becomes, “Who writes your story?”
This episode explore the idea that we all need stories to motivate and inspire our lives, and that all our beliefs serve to keep us in the game of living. But, make no mistake about it; all beliefs are constructs. They are made up.
Most of us grew up with strong beliefs about the importance of formal education. The story goes that education defines intelligence, it bestows respect, and it opens the doors to success and happiness.
That education story is coming apart quickly in our world. Look around you, and you will find many happy highly successful people who do not have much, if any, formal education.
My perception is that the education story is designed to do three things:
* prepare you to think and live as an employee
* conditions you to seek external approval for your life choices
* define who is intelligent and who is not
More and more people are discovering that letters after a person’s name and certificates from institutions of higher learning do not determine intelligence.
I encourage you in this episode to summon the courage to write your own story, the one that beats in your heart, the one that makes you feel alive. That is the only story worth living.
You’ll learn about a fascinating contemporary success story that flies in the face of all the things you’ve been taught about how to achieve great success.
The name of the game for growth, happiness, independence, and true success today is value creation for the marketplace. You don’t need formal education for that.Wed, 26 Jun 2019 - 22min - 324 - 210: Zero Limits
ZERO LIMITS
This episode takes a deeper dive into the premise of my podcast; it explores the idea that every thought you have, every word you speak, is a story or part of a story.
That means that you are making up reality; you are making up and creating your life. You have the potential to create a life with zero limits. Will you do it?
I found the inspiration for today’s show in the work of Joe Vitale, one of the teachers in the famous movie, “The Secret.” Vitale co-authored, with Dr. Hew Len, a powerful book called, Zero Limits: The Secret Hawaiian System for Health, Wealth, Peace, and More.
The insights from the book support the idea that we are all storytellers, and that the lives we live, and the world we perceive, are creations of our minds.
You will discover the power behind Joe Vitale’s six zero limit insights:
Your mind chatter may strongly resist what you hear in this episode. That’s understandable because the ideas cannot be grasped by your logical mind. You literally must take a leap of faith and go to a place inside yourself beyond thought to experience the power of the six insights.

THOUGHTS ARE THINGS
Today’s episode is truly a game changing, story changing thing. You will learn why and how your thoughts are things; they are thought things.
Thoughts are things is not just an analogy. It is literal. A thought is as much a thing as a hot burning coal, a shard of glass, or a soft pillow.
And, like things, thoughts affect your physical body.
You’ll be amazed at what science is revealing about the power of your thoughts to create any reality you desire. Enjoy this adventurous exploration into the science history behind our views of the world and ourselves.
Here are just a few of the mind expanding nuggets in this episode of Change Your Story, Change Your Life:
* 17th Century Beliefs – Our current view of the physical world and reality is based on the outdated thinking of Sir Isaac Newton’s Principia, written in 1687
* 17th Century Mind – Our predominant view of human consciousness is a hand-me-down from Rene Descartes’ idea that mind and matter are separate entities. They are not.
* The 1941 Meeting that Changed the Word Forever – Physicists, Neils Bohr and Werner Heisenberg met in Copenhagen between September 15 and 21. Their findings, discussion and revelations laid the foundation for quantum physics.
* Bohr and Heisenberg gave us irrefutable evidence that atoms (matter) are not solid; they are “tiny clouds of possibility” that exist only as a potential of their future selves.
Matter becomes manifest and real when it is observed. It is our act of OBSERVATION that determines which potential of matter comes into existence as “reality.”

“A human being is part of the whole, called by us, ‘universe’; a part limited in time and space. STORY LOOPS
We all get caught in story loops, but often we don’t know it. In fact, we may not even know what a story loop is.
A story loop is a recurring thought or series of thoughts that play in our heads over and over. It’s like listening to a broken record that’s stuck in one spot.
We experience three different kinds of story loops:
* Obsession – We are preoccupied with something or someone that we have made very important in our minds.
* Resistance – We have recurring unpleasant thoughts that make us feel anxious and upset. We try to make the thoughts go away by fighting them. This makes them even stronger and more dominant.
* Identification – We identify with a a label about us or a belief relating to our self image. Usually, these thoughts are not empowering.
There is a way to free ourselves from the incessant repetition of these loops. It requires us to become observers of the mental stream that constantly flows through our minds.
When you are the observer, you remain detached. Detachment will allow the thoughts to move on and not develop into narratives that control us.
You can become the observer by practicing meditation. It will help you grow into a person who is the storyteller creating an empowering script for your own life.
Whether you choose to meditate or not, make it imperative to master your inner narrative. It is the only way to keep growing and experience deeper levels of life’s richness.

NAME GAME
This episode explores the question, “What’s in a name?” Listen and play the name game while you learn some fascinating things about your name and your persona.
We all have a name. Most of us take our names for granted. We don’t think about the stories our names tell to the world.
Robert tells a different story than Bobby. In my case, Louis tells a different story than Louie. Here’s my story about that.
I play a lot of mobsters in movies. I used to go by the name of Louie. And, on many movie sets, people joked around with me, using my name in a casual way. Basically, the name made them treat me, not badly, but in a manner that was sometimes too familiar for my liking.
One day, on a new movie shoot, an assistant director asked if I went by Louie or Louis. I said Louis. What a game changer. People treated me differently. It was as if I had gained a new instant authority.
You’ll discover some eye-opening and entertaining insights in my discussion of some prominent celebrity names. What’s the story and the power behind the chosen names of these people?
* Curtis James Jackson III
* Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr.
* O’Shea Jackson, Jr.
* Andre Romelle Young
* Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta
Do you have a name that you like? If not, have you considered the option of changing your name? or, do you just accept that “that’s the way things are?”
There’s much more than entertainment in this episode. There’s a challenge to growth and new self-empowerment. And, it’s fun; it’s the name game.Wed, 12 Jun 2019 - 15min - 320 - 206: Good Hood

Sat, 08 Jun 2019 - 1h 18min - 319 - 205: FOMO
FOMO
It must be pretty widespread to have its own acronym. I’m talking about FOMO, the fear of missing out.
Missing out on what? Anything. You name it. Not having the latest smartphone, tablet, or other mobile device. Not getting in on the prelaunch of a marketing guru’s latest course or product. Missing the deadline for that VIP membership site; hey, who knows when or if it will open again?
We’ve all experienced the fear of missing out to some degree in our lives. After all, this is the digital age when shiny objects pop up out of thin air 24/7 to taunt and entice us.
This episode explores three ways that FOMO can show up to influence our emotions and our actions:
* SHOPPING Fear of Missing Out – This is the classic shiny object syndrome. Usually, this kind of fear stalks us online. We get hooked by an “irresistible offer” for a digital product or course. Can be expensive, but it’s fairly harmless.
* OVERWHELM – This is the fear that constantly reminds us that we “don’t have enough time” to do everything we have to do. It leads us to multitasking, which is a false story about getting things done. Multitasking does not make us more productive; it just robs us of our focus.
* RELATIONSHIP FOMO – This fear is also related to time. Its narrative is that we had better choose a life partner before it’s too late. Many women fall prey to this prompted by the ticking of their biological clocks. The choose less that ideal mates out of fear of remaining barren and alone. Their choices can sometimes lead to a lot of pain and suffering.
The episode also contains a special bonus – an exercise that will prove to you that multitasking is a lie. This easy fun game will also liberate you and instantly make you more productive.
I learned this exercise from a world class marketer, Dean Jackson.
Listen, learn, grow, and prosper.Wed, 05 Jun 2019 - 26min - 318 - 204: Stages of Truth
STAGES OF TRUTH
The philosopher, Arthur Schopenhauer, gave us the concept of the three stages of truth. There’s a debate about whether or not it was Schopenhauer. That’s not what this podcast is about.
This episode explores the brilliant observation that any new truth must pass through three stages before it is fully accepted and embraced by society.
The three stages of truth are:
* Ridicule
* Violent Opposition
* Self Evident
It’s fascinating that people will accept something as self evident, and, at that stage, even embrace it and passionately promote it after they violently opposed it. What does that mean?
It means that humans are hardwired to strongly resist change and to make many of their choices irrationally. Most of our decisions are emotionally based and rationally justified. That’s what makes us storytelling machines.
Here are some examples in our world of things that have either passed through or are still going through the three stages of truth.
* The automobile
* The airplane
* Franchise business model
* Network marketing business model
* Alcoholic beverages
* Cannabis
Why is it important to understand this phenomenon? Because we tend to do it unconsciously. That can lead to accepting limiting beliefs about life, about our own capabilities, and about what is possible. Unless we question or challenge our beliefs, we cannot discover if they support or harm us.
Today, we are surrounded by persuasive media messages 24/7. Many of those messages are dictating the stories we should live by. And, unknowingly, we accept those stories.
This podcast challenges you to create your stories, your life narratives, by design, and to not accept them by default.
Listen to this episode with an open mind, a sense of adventure and courage, and then take the challenge to question your beliefs and transform your life with an empowering story that you create.Sat, 01 Jun 2019 - 21min - 317 - 203: Scary Story
SCARY STORY
This episode is about a scary story that isn’t scary at all. In fact, it’s an exciting story if you choose to see what it’s really about.
First, an important reminder. Tyrion Lannister, at the finale of Game of Thrones, says that people are not united by armies, gold, or flags. They are united by stories, and that there is nothing more powerful than a good story.
The people who laugh at that statement don’t get how profound it is. Tyrion is saying that all of life is a magnificent story. Civilizations are built on stories. Think of the Bible, the Koran, and the Talmud.
You will learn about three brilliant authors, all critical thinkers, who passionately articulate the message that the world we perceive with our senses is a made-up story, it’s an illusion that veils a powerful limitless reality behind it. These three people of higher consciousness are:
* Bruce Lipton, a biologist who wrote The Biology of Belief. The book scientifically explodes the idea that we are controlled by our DNA. Lipton persuasively argues that our belief about DNA as an immutable force in our lives is a story.
* Gregg Braden, a former senior computer systems designer and best selling author. His latest book is Human by Design: From Evolution by Chance to Transformation by Choice. This book shatters our paradigms about the world, reality, and ourselves. it reveals that we are bathed in a field of intelligent energy. Even more exciting, or scary, depending how you look at it, is the idea that the field responds to us and rearranges itself in the presence of our heart based feelings and beliefs.
* Lynne McTaggart, a former hard-nosed investigative journalist, a woman who got close to the dark underbelly of life. She made a life changing discovery that led to her book, The Field: The Quest for the Secret Force of the Universe. Her book echoes Bruce Lipton and Gregg Braden. She writes that the human mind and body are not separate from their environment; the are part of a pulsating power that constantly interacts with the vast energy sea around them. She believes that consciousness may be central in shaping our world.
Why do I call this episode Scary Story? Because this inspiring vision shared by these three brilliant people and many others undermines the foundation of deeply rooted beliefs that make us feel safe in the world. When we muster the courage to embrace this vision we gain enormous power and great responsibility.
I encourage you to take on the challenge that can transform your life and allow you to manifest and live your dreams.

GAME OF THRONES
What secrets can you learn from Game of Thrones? More than you can imagine.
This episode reveals some fascinating gems in the finale of the epic series, Game of Thrones. There are powerful lessons in the show about life, power, and storytelling.
First, we must answer the question, “Who won the Game of Thrones?” We know that Bran the Broken was named emperor of six kingdoms. Many audience members were shocked and appalled by this choice.
But, did Bran really win the throne? I don’t think so. I believe that true leader and winner of the game is Tyrion Lannister. The last episode demonstrates this beautifully. And, it is perfect.
Tyrion is the only character fit to rule. Here’s why:
* Compassion – Tyrion is a deeply compassionate person. He genuinely cares about people.
* Intelligence – No one in the seven kingdoms is smarter than Tyrion Lannister.
* Diplomacy – Tyrion has proven himself as the ultimate diplomatic negotiator throughout all eight seasons o Game of Thrones.
* Violence – Though not essentially a cruel person, Tyrion will use violence if it is his only option to survive or serve the common good.
The events of the finale that point clearly to Tyrion’s victory:
* Tyrion is condemned to death for treason.
* Tyrion persuades John Snow to betray Daenerys Targaryen, the dragon queen.
* Tyrion talks his way out of execution
* Tyrion persuades a ruling council to appoint Bran the Broken emperor
* Bran appoints Tyrion his Hand
Those five events are crucial steps in Tyrion’s deft maneuvers to claim the empire’s true power. Bran will serve as figurehead king. Tyrion will pull the strings behind the scenes as his advisor.
POWER OF STORY
One of the most profound and brilliant insights in the episode is revealed in the monet when Tyrion explains why Bran is the perfect choice as emperor. Tyrion says that the true power of nations is not in gold or flags. It is in stories. Nothing is more powerful than a great story.
Bran’s story has mythological qualities. He began as a mere mortal boy who survived a fall from a great height that should have killed him. Then, he developed prophetic powers. That story makes him more than human.
Tyrion knows that people don’t follow leaders. They follow the story in their heads about those leaders. Civilizations are built and destroyed based on stories. Think of the Bible and the Koran.
Tyrion has mastered the psychology of leadership. He knows that his own story will not inspire people, but Bran’s story will. He also knows that he can have a powerful influence on Bran’s thoughts and actions.
Tyrion rules! As he should.

RULES OF CONSENT
Should we hate or thank Harvey Weinstein. His behavior as a sexual predator awakened a new social awareness about the dialogue between men and women when it comes to sex. The Me Too movement has raised uncomfortable and important questions about the rules of consent. One of those questions is, “When does yes mean no?”
It’s a heated question; some may feel that yes can only mean yes.. Today’s podcast guest is talented Canadian playwright, Amy Lee Lavoie. Her latest play, C’MON, Angie, puts the challenging question, when does yes mean no, front and center.
I interviewed the actors of the Toronto production of C’MON, Angie in episode 193. Now, you get to hear from the woman who created this smart play that explodes our notions about the rules of consent between sexual partners.
Are you ready to learn, grow, and get uncomfortable about the way you may view sex, seduction, and what is right and wrong in the bedroom? Then you will enjoy this discussion between Amy and me, and, later, between Amy’s husband and me.
We cover a lot of sensitive ground in this episode. Here are few of our conversation’s highlights:
* What are the boundaries after a couple has agreed to have sex?
* Can a man unconsciously assault a woman sexually?
* How does drinking alcohol before sex influence consent?
* What role does a man’s intention play when determining consent?
The power of Amy Lee Lavoie’s play is the balanced portrait of her characters. She doesn’t paint the picture of the man as a monster. Nor does she portray Angie as a saint. They are human beings with strengths, weaknesses, and flaws. The play is designed to make you to care about its characters, and to make you ask some uncomfortable questions about your views and feelings about sex.
Toward the end of the interview with Amy, her husband, Omari Newton, joined the discussion spontaneously. He is also a writer. Our brief dialogue raises some uncomfortable questions about race.
This episode will engage your mind and your emotions; it may inspire or inflame you. I promise it won’t bore you.

TRUE STORIES
Is it possible for a true story to be untrue? Yes.
Although true stories are based on”facts,” the person “telling” the story must present those facts in a frame that carries his/her bias or interpretation of the facts.
Simply put, what we call objective reality is always tinged by subjectivity. What you look at is always colored by the lens through which you view it.
This episode explores fascinating examples of this. The first one focuses on a famous Impressionist painting, “Le Pont de l’Europe,” by Gustave Caillebotte. The English translation is “The Bridge of Europe.”
The painting seems like a realistic representation of the bridge. Closer inspection reveals a “distorted” or exaggerated perspective that the artist used to create specific feelings and thoughts about his society.
You may be intrigued when you learn about:
* Diane Arbus – her famous photographs of people are far from objective representations of their subjects.
* Leni Riefenstahl – the images in her brilliant “documentary” films, “Triumph of the Will,” about Hitler’s Nuremberg rally, and her movie about the German Olympics can be seen as propaganda.
* Rashomon, a play based on two Japanese short stories, and, later, a film thriller by Akira Kurosawa, examines the nature of truth.
This episode challenges your critical thinking and asks you to not get intellectually lazy about the questions, “What are facts?” and, “Are there any true stories?”Sat, 04 May 2019 - 24min - 309 - 195: Suits
SUITS
People wear suits. People love suits. People hate suits. There’s a popular TV series called Suits. Suits tell stories.
They tell stories, and we buy into them. Sometimes, the stories are innocent. Sometimes, they’re not.
This episode explores the history of suits in Western culture. It looks at how styles have changed as well as the symbolic stories that accompany those styles.
You’ll learn about how you see others and yourself as we travel through time with changing fashions. These are some of the stops we’ll make along the way:
* Regency period – early 19th century – the age of Beau Brummell, a British dandy and fashion setter.
* Victorian period – mid 19th century – the age of the morning coat and the introduction of the dinner jacket for men.
* Edwardian period – early 20th century – the morning coat becomes standard business dress in town and country.
* Post World War I into the 1920s – short suits become popular and the dinner jacket dominates.
* Post World War II – emergence of the grey flannel suit – it comes to represent drab middle class conformity.
* Late 20th century and early 21st – rise of the individualistic entrepreneur – the gradual demise of corporate culture
Today, the suit does not tell the story of influence, respectability, and authority as strongly as it used to. We see the rise of new icons like Gary Vee, slightly disheveled, rough around the edges, and highly influential. A new look with a new story.
The story of suits is the story of power and influence.

STORY OF A HAT
Imagine if your clothes could talk. What would they say? What stories would they tell?
This episode is about a “talking” hat; it’s about the story of a hat.
This no ordinary hat. It is the red MAGA hat worn by Trump supporters. Not only does this hat talk, it tells different stories to different people. Strong, loud, passionate stories that, all too often, trigger violent actions.
Earlier this month, a black man wearing a MAGA hat was violently assaulted and robbed by two other black men because he would not remove the hat when they ordered him to. The hat inflamed them. It triggered a STORY in their heads that led to violence.
We project all sorts of stories onto neutral objects and onto people. When we do that we are slaves to our narratives.
Here are a few of the provocative questions and insights you’ll discover in this episode:
* What is the nature of story?
* How do your story filters color your view of the world?
* What happens if you don’t take full responsibility for the narratives that create your world?
* The similarity between your inner narratives and a wild horse
* The truth about your opinions and judgements
The story of a hat is the story of your mind; it’s the story of the reality that you create moment to moment that makes your world enriching or frightening.
The story of hat is a challenge for you to take full responsibility for the circumstances, the emotions, and the reality that you project onto the world. It is a challenge to change your story, and change your life.Sat, 27 Apr 2019 - 19min - 307 - 193: All About Sex
GETTING LAID
Yes, today’s podcast is all about sex. It’s all about getting laid. No, the show is not becoming a porn pod.
Today, we will explore what sex means to a man and a woman who spend a night together between the sheets. You’ll discover that it can mean very different things to each of them.
Our guests are Anne van Leeuwen and Ryan Hollyman, two very talented actors who are currently performing in a play called C’MON, Angie at the Assembly Theatre in Toronto.
This is a smart, compelling, provocative play that confronts the uncomfortable question, “What is sexual consent?” It’s an important and even dangerous question when the people forced to answer it have spent what could be seen as a “wild night in bed.”
This episode will take you on a fascinating journey that will challenge you, make you feel and think differently, and take you on an important inner journey toward the heart of who you are as a man or a woman.
This is some of the territory that the play explores and our guests approach in this episode:
* The nature of true sexual consent
* Can a fun night in bed really be an assault?
* What is rape?
* Do men and women want and expect different things from sex?
* Can a good man be a sexual aggressor?
* Do we need a new vocabulary for men and women to authentically communicate?
C’MON, Angie will take you to places you will want to avoid at the same time that you feel irresistibly drawn to them.
Listen, learn, expand, get angry, and enjoy our intimate conversation about sex.

GAME OF THRONES
This episodes explores how the popular HBO series, Game of Thrones, reveals important insights about storytelling.
You will learn about four different aspects or levels of storytelling:
* CELEBRITY STORY – Our society is fascinated by celebrities and the phenomenon of celebrity in general. Why do people become passionate fans of anyone or anything? What emotional stories do they create in their minds that make them loyal to people, causes, and brands? How can you tap into the power of celebrity loyalty and apply it successfully to your business? How can you create a story about your products and services that becomes a movement that people want to join?
* SOCIAL MEDIA STORY – Social interaction is predominantly online today. Do you have a huge following on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other social networks? Do you want to grow your following for personal or business reasons? What can you learn from Game of Thrones that will dramatically increase your influence?
* WHY GAME OF THRONES IS REAL – I Game of Thrones pure fantastical fiction? Or, is it closer to real life than we care to admit? I believe that the show is a metaphor for our current world and its conflicts. Look at it through the lense of social commentary and you will recognize the battles that are raging in Israel, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, India, the United States, and the entire planet. Look very closely, and you will identify the pacifist message at the heart of the show.
* STORYTELLING TECHNIQUE – How do the writers of Game of Thrones keep us engaged and curious episode after episode for eight seasons? Study any one episode carefully, and you will discover powerful storytelling techniques, like the cliffhanger.
Who do you root for in Game of Thrones, and who do you think will sit on the Throne when the show ends?Wed, 17 Apr 2019 - 21min - 304 - 190: Future Story
FUTURE STORY

That vision is coming to pass, and, if you embrace it, it can be your empowering future story.

CREATING YOURSELF
Every minute of every day, you are creating yourself. Am I being dramatic? Am I playing with words? Am I making a bold statement just to get your attention?
No, no, and no. I’m expressing an idea that plays out in my life, in your life, and the lives of today’s guests. The reality that we find ourselves in 24/7 is a self-creation spun from the vivid narratives in our minds.
Every aspect of your life, your relationships, your wealth or poverty, your happiness or unhappiness is a result of a story you tell yourself, focus on, and develop through a series of conscious and unconscious thoughts.
You will experience the things I just wrote about as you listen to the compelling story of Natalie and Joeel Rivera, a couple drawn together by the irresistible pull of their similar unconscious stories.
They met through a series of “random” events, what some would call coincidences. They developed a creative business partnership; then they married.
Natalie and Joeel were on a mission to relieve suffering in the world. They began with a print magazine. Like many sensitive entrepreneurs, they felt the vibrations of change in our global economy.
They understood that the world was moving toward a digital way of life. They transformed their print magazine into a digital one that could reach a worldwide audience at lighting speed. They made the right choice and started riding a wave of success.
Without warning, their dream life exploded when Joeel became bedridden with an unknown illness that ravaged him for more than a year.
Pay close attention now. This horrible experience was only a tragedy if the couple allowed it to be. Huh? That’s right. Their earnings crashed, Natalie became Joeel’s primary caregiver, and they chose to see this entire experience as a journey toward joy and more success. And that is exactly what it became.
You will not be able to listen to their story and remain the same person after you’ve heard it. You will have grown, you will be richer and stronger, even if you don’t feel it immediately. You will be one step closer to creating an empowering story that in turn creates an unstoppable version of you.
Joeel’s illness led to his discovery of the value he could offer people with online education. He and Natalie created more than 75 online courses to help people like me and you to tap into our passions and natural abilities and monetize them while impacting the lives of others.
Their journey can become your adventurous journey of creating yourself.

INSIDE STORIES
Today’s episode explores the question, “Do I really like myself?”
It may seem like a strange question. Actually, it is important to ask it because all of us have unconscious narratives or inside stories that limit our self worth.
You will learn three powerful questions to ask that will help you get to the truth of the main question, “Do I really like myself?” They are:
* Am I a good receiver? You may be amazed to discover that most people, probably you too, are much more comfortable giving than receiving. The more you allow yourself to receive, the deeper your self worth becomes.
* How much money are my work and time worth? This question can lead to some mind-blowing revelations. Can you imagine asking and getting $16,000 an hour for your time? You will love the story about one man who does.
* Could you have coffee with a famous person you admire and feel like her peer? This question can reveal a lot to you about how you see yourself in relation to others. You may be shocked by what you learn when you honestly ask this question.
View this episode as an adventure of self-discovery. Listen to it more than once. Ask the questions without becoming defensive. You may discover your inner world of untapped and unlimited potential.

BODY STORIES
Everybody tells stories. This episode focuses on the stories your body tells, often without your conscious knowledge. Are you ready to explore your body stories?
It’s important to become aware of the messages your body transmits to the world because those messages are more powerful than your words.
You can be a good speaker with unconscious body language that contradicts your words. People will respond to and believe the body language because it speaks directly to their unconscious minds.
These are some of the dangerous signals that your body may transmit that can undermine even a well prepared presentation:
* Arrogance
* Distant and cold
* Angry
* Afraid
You will learn to identify common body gestures that can stand between you and your audience:
* Arms folded on chest
* Holding fingers of one hand with your other hand
* Hands in pockets
You will discover three powerful resources to help you strengthen your communication by raising your awareness of your body stories. They are:
* Neutral Masks – created by Jacques Lecoq, a famous mime and acting teacher who used masks to reveal the messages behind physical gestures
* Unique Forms of Continuity in Space – a bronze sculpture that captures the power and dynamic forces of the human body; it was created by Umberto Boccioni
* Moment Before Exercise to give your presentations a powerful opening
Listen to this episode repeatedly and practice the techniques I offer you quickly become a more compelling communicator.Sat, 30 Mar 2019 - 24min - 299 - 185: Unconscious Stories
UNCONSCIOUS STORIES
We are storytelling machines. We see the world though the narratives we constantly spin like yarn out of reactions to people and events. We call these narratives “reality.” But they are just vivid perceptions.
Today’s episode looks at the unconscious stories that we create every day from moment to moment. We are often not aware of them because they develop in an instant.
Where do the seeds of these unconscious stories come from? From all the information that bombards us 24/7 in our digital world. Images on social media, Netflix, billboards, our phones, computers, and tablets. They come from random glances we catch from other people’s eyes.
They come from all the sensory impressions that rapid fire at our minds from the world around us. The moment we receive one of these impressions, our minds begin to interpret them; those interpretations become stories that often rule our lives.
A person averts our gaze, and we create a rejection story. Glamorous lifestyle images on Facebook trigger comparison stories that can make us feel inadequate.
The challenge is to receive the overload of images without giving our power away to them. It’s a discipline that we can and must develop to remain whole, to feel confident and happy, and to grow.
Listen to this episode and allow it to inspire you. Allow it to shift your focus from thoughts and images that steal your power to those that elevate and unleash your infinite human potential.
Listen to the end to learn about the gift that you can win that will help you become a compelling communicator.

MARKET DOMINATION
This short episode reveals the secret for any business to achieve market domination. The secret is one word – STORY.
You’ll discover how your authentic story about your product or service immediately makes you stand out from all your competitors.
If you don’t use stories to attract your ideal customers and clients, you are forced to compete by comparing what you offer with very similar offers that your competition makes. That usually leads to competing with price.
Doing business that way is more expensive and way less profitable than using one compelling authentic story that becomes a money magnet that leads to your market domination.
You’ll learn why Apple has become a dominant player who never competes on price. You’ll understand why people will pay premium prices for Apple products and even camp out overnight to be the first to purchase computers, tablets, and phones that they often don’t even need.
When you see and truly get the message at the heart of Apple’s famous Super Bowl commercial that launched the first Mac, you will never look at sales and marketing the same way again. You may be amazed when you realize that a one minute and eight second commercial established Apple as the unique leader in its field without ever showing a computer.
You will develop a new respect for the power of storytelling to achieve your market domination.
I’m not exaggerating when I say that this episode may be one of the most powerful your have heard so far in the history of Change Your Story, Change Your Life.

WARDROBE STORIES
The clothing you wear makes a statement. But what about the clothing you don’t wear? You know, the suits, dresses, jeans, slacks, and every other item that covers the human body that you stopped wearing a long time ago.
You don’t wear them. But you won’t give them up. Those pieces of clothing have their own unique wardrobe stories. Stories about you, the people in your life, and your past. Stories that carry a lot of emotional baggage.
This episode continues our conversation about decluttering your home. This one focuses specifically on the clothes you stopped wearing but allow to live in your closets and drawers, and, more importantly, in your heart and mind.
You’ll learn an exercise in today’s podcast that can help you release buried emotions that may be weighing you down and holding you back in life. You are going to confront and explore 3 kinds of clothing:
* Clothing that is connected to a previous relationship in your life. Maybe, it was a gift from your ex. Or, it was something that you wore when you dated your ex. The relationship ended, you stopped wearing the item of clothing, but it still takes up space in your home.
* An item of clothing that you bought and no longer care about or wear.
* Something that you no longer wear, but you still like it.
You will pick up each item separately, hold it, and begin a dialogue with it. You will know what to say and ask when emotions come to surface triggered by the clothing.
Finally, you will summon the courage to release the item and the emotions attached to it.
You’ll also hear my challenge to do a serious purge of your wardrobe and other objects in your home. When you do it, you may discover that you feel lighter. You may experience a new sense of freedom. You will have made space for new empowering things to enter your life.
This can be a huge breakthrough for you. You will learn that your past is a made up story. You will be free to write a new story with bright and inviting future.
So, listen, change, and grow.

MUSIC POWER
Here is one dictionary definition of music: vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.
That’s an acceptable definition, but it doesn’t capture the essence of music power. It doesn’t hint at the power of music to heal, transform, and even, to save lives. Music power embraces all of these.
The guest of today’s episode is Bill Protzmann. He’s a musician. He’s also a man who has experienced the deepest meaning of music power, and he enriches people’s lives with what he’s learned.
These are a few of the enriching gems you’ll discover as Bill Protzmann and I take a deep dive into the magic of music:
* How music literally saved Bill’s life
* A journey from despair to joyful song writing
* Music’s power to heal trauma
* Practical Heart Kills & how music enriches them
* How to identify your power music

* The relationship between music and business growth

HIDDEN STORIES
There are silent hidden stories all around you. They are in your home. your office, anyplace that you repeatedly spend time in.
Does that sound wacky? It is profoundly true.
This short episode explores the hidden stories in familiar objects that we own. The question to ask is, “Do they own you?”
I’m not making this up. I’m sharing insights from a powerful book, Clutter Busting: Letting Go of What’s Holding You Back, by Brooks Palmer.
Brooks’s expertise is decluttering. People hire him to help them get rid of unwanted things, usually in their homes.
Why would anyone need help getting rid of stuff they don’t want? That’s where the stories come in.
Psychology has demonstrated that we get emotionally attached to inanimate objects. The reality TV show, Hoarders, focuses on extreme examples of Holding on tightly to clutter.
You can’t read Clutter Busting or listen to this episode and not learn something about yourself. One of the book’s fascinating stories is about a woman who could not let go of one year old notes from a class she had taken. She didn’t need the notes. In fact, the wer scattered on her floor. You’ll be amazed at what set her free.
I give you a challenge to release objects that you own and don’t use, want, or need anymore. It’s an invitation to choose a new level of freedom that will enrich and empower your life.
Stop what you’re doing. Listen to Hidden Stories. It could be one the most transformational ten minutes of your life.

SOCIAL COMPARISONS
Social comparisons are deadly. And in today’s world we fall prey to them all the time.
Social media and the Internet are powerful resources that can enrich our lives – if we use them intentionally.
Here’s what I mean. We can build a business empire with social media. We can find great prospects, leads, and strategic partnerships online.
But, what can happen when we idle surf the web? We can be drawn into the deadly game of social comparisons.
Think you are above that? Maybe. I would urge you to think again. We are all susceptible to the images we see on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube – pick your social media of choice. And here’s the thing. Many of those seductive images are made up.
We live in a selfie world. It’s fun, entertaining, profitable, and dangerous. How dangerous? Check out the insightful research on the rise of teen suicide and it’s connection to social media.
I want to emphasize that I value social media. I respect its power to enrich and to destroy. When we fall into the trap of comparing our lives to “perfect lives” we see on social media, we run into serious trouble.
I know that this does not only apply to teens. Every single human being can be snared into the game of social comparisons. The only way to never engage in that game is to be 100% self-aware all the time.
That requires effort and discipline, just like physical exercise. Sometimes, it feels better to surf the web passively, and let our minds take a rest. That’s when your self image becomes easy prey to the perfect images that seduce us into deadly social comparisons.
Want to be the master of your self-narrative? Think about the beauty you find in nature. Walk in the woods and appreciate the limitless diversity you see there. Look at trees. Every one is different. They are short, tall, think, slender, straight, spiralled, smooth, and gnarled. It’s easy to see the beauty in all of them.
Are they perfect? Yes and no. What is perfection? We will stop comparing ourselves to others when we embrace the perfection of imperfection.
The animal kingdom teaches us a lot about about diversity. Look at three totally different breeds of dogs. A chihuahua, a bulldog, and a Great Dane, for instance. Do they get depressed because they don’t look alike? Does a chihuahua lose sleep and go to a pet shrink because it’s not as “beautiful” as a Great Dane?
These questions make you laugh. Well, have a good laugh at the times (we all have them) when you have felt “less than” someone because of social comparisons. Then, decide to stop playing the game.
T.S. Eliot, one of the great poets of the 20th century wrote these words: “There will be time, there will be time to prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet.”
Think about those words the next time you find yourself drawn into the game of social comparisons. Remember that the people you are comparing yourself to have probably devoted time and energy to preparing the face to meet the faces that they meet.Wed, 20 Feb 2019 - 13min - 288 - 174: Limitless Mindset
LIMITLESS MINDSET
I grew up constantly hearing that a sign of maturity is to know your limitations. I believed it. And it’s nonsense.

Sat, 16 Feb 2019 - 1h 04min - 287 - 173: Your Musical Story
YOUR MUSICAL STORY
Your musical story refers to the rhythm, the pace, and the feelings that your intentional communication creates.
This episode will stimulate your creativity and allow you to feel storytelling with your heart and your whole body. It will get you out of your head.
You will hear three short pieces of jazz music by the legendary saxophonist, John Coltrane. the are from his famous album, Coltrane Plays the Blues.
Each piece is named after a person. The songs are:
* Mr. Day
* Mr. Syms
* Mr. Knight
I first used this exercise when I was teaching young adults in New York City. I played the three songs for them and told them to pick one and write a story about it. The goal of the story was to make the central character of the song come alive.
The students describe what Mr. Day, Mr. Syms, and Mr. Knight looked like; the described the men’s personalities and their behavior. Remember. These were musical compositions without lyrics.
You will only hear the beginning of each song. It is sufficient to create an image and a feeling for you. It will also allow you to sense how the tempo changes.
Why is this important? It’s important because it will help you to feel the organic beginning, middle, and end of stories at an unconscious level. That’s with practice of course.
Open yourself to this experience, and you will tap into your natural creativity. It will ignite your imagination and make you feel good.
Who knows? You may even fall in love with jazz if you aren’t already.Wed, 13 Feb 2019 - 14min - 286 - 172: Go-Giver
GO GIVER
You’ve heard of a go getter. So, what’s a go giver? Not the opposite of a go getter. The opposite of a go giver is a go taker.
This episode is not about an amusing word game. It’s an interview with a brilliant man whose views on the world transform lives.
His name is Bob Burg, an accomplished and recognized speaker, author, and a sales/mindset trainer. As an author, his book sales have crossed the one million mark.
Two of his most popular books are The Go-Giver, that he co-authored with John David Mann, and Endless Referrals, a book that delivers big time on the promise of its title.
There’s a simple profound theme in all of Bob Burg’s work. It’s this. The more you give, the more you get. He walks and talks the belief that the amount of money you make is directly proportional to how many people you serve.
Here’s what’s exciting about listening to Bob or reading one of his books. You’ll get insights about influence and persuasion that have been around since our ancestors stepped out of caves into society.
But here’s the thing. Bob lets you view these insights through a powerful, new, crystal clear lens. You may even get the feeling that you are learning them for the first time. That kind of ah-ha is life transforming and enriching.
Here are just a few of the value bombs that Bob Burg drops in this interview as we discuss his latest book, The Go-Giver Influencer:
* The true meaning of influence
* The big difference between persuasion and manipulation
* Why context is more important than the content of your words
* Why you should use stories to influence, persuade, and sell
* A powerful communication lesson you’ll learn from an elephant
* What a cat named Cleocatra can teach you about persuasion and influence
* The back door rule of persuasion
* Why compromise creates a lose-lose situation
* The art and skill of listening with the back of your neck
True to form, Bob just keeps giving and giving in this episode. You’ll definitely want to absorb the seven figure wisdom he reveals with:

PRESENTATION TEMPLATE
This episode gives you a powerful template for creating any kind of presentation (live, webinar, YouTube video, you name it).
I call it the Frankenstein Presentation Template because you will build your presentation the way Dr. Frankenstein built his monster. Sounds crazy, I know.
This is far from crazy. This presentation template will take the guesswork out of creating compelling presentations that move people to a desired action. It clarifies the order you should follow to build your presentation step-by-step.
Many people make the mistake of focusing on what they will say first; they focus on their opening. The problem is that they don’t know what their core message is. They haven’t asked the question, “What am I opening into?”
The analogy with the Frankenstein monster will make all of this clear. That monster became a living being. Your presentation should be alive like a living being.
Imagine, for a moment, that you, like Dr. Frankenstein decided to create a human. What is the one essential organ that the human body needs to live? The heart. The heart of your presentation is your core message. The opening of your presentation is like a human head.
If you create the head first, you have no body to place it on. You can carry under your arm or put it in a fridge. It’s useless on its own. It’s not alive.
Here is a comparison between the essential parts of your presentation and human body parts:
* Opening – Head
* Message – Heart
* Framework – Skeleton
* Content – Muscles & Organs
* Transitions – Connective Tissue
* Closing – Legs
Here is the order to follow when building your presentation:
* Message – The heart is your source of life.
* Framework – The skeleton is the house for your heart.
* Content -Puts flesh on your skeleton.
* Closing – Your body needs strong legs to stand on.
* Opening – Gives meaning and sense of the body below it.
You’ll learn more about the framework and transitions in this episode. Briefly, your framework is the context for your message and all that you say in your presentation.
Once you define your message, you need content to deliver it. The most effective way to do this to choose three key points that will highlight and drive your message home.
Why three? Because the human mind loves and remembers data presented in threes.
This presentation template is powerful. It will make your communication compelling and clear. It will also save you a lot of time when you sit down to create your presentation.
If you want to take a deep dive and master this for your next important presentation, reach out to me for personal coaching.

MILLIONAIRE CHOICES Millionaire choices don’t begin with the choices you make about money; they begin with the choices you make about life. Here’s what I mean. Abundance and wealth creation are the result of the belief that outer circumstances do not control the choices you make in life. If life deals you a bad hand, you can still win the game by playing the cards you have with imagination, desire, and focus. Today’s episode is an interview with Tony Bradshaw, the man who wrote the book, The Millionaire Choice. he wrote it to inspire and equip people to become millionaires, no matter where they are financially right now. Tony walks his talk. He grew up poor in a broken home. His dad was an alcoholic. His neighbors were drug dealers. At the age of four, Tony was in his dad’s car when the police stopped them and arrested his father from drunk driving. You will hear about some other difficult challenges that Tony Bradshaw faced while growing up. Challenges that many people would use as excuses for not achieving success and have a great life. You will also learn about the life changing decision Tony made at the age of twenty-five to be a millionaire by age forty. That’s what it takes. A decision. A choice. A millionaire choice. You can make that choice if you want to. And, you can make it at any age. You’ll get fired up as Tony shares valuable valuable insights about: * Financial awakening * A Millionaire Plan – move forward, no matter what; never look in the rear view mirror * How to get money smart * Why you should have multiple income streams * How to break bad money habits * 4 factors, besides, money, that will help you become a millionaire * The 4 Bucket System – your step-by-step action plan to transform your financial life * The core of Tony’s system – 10 Keys of the Millionaire * Entering the Great Zone BOOKS IN THIS PODCAST https://www.amazon.com/Good-Great-Some-Companies-Others-ebook/dp/B0058DRUV6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8andqid=1549057044andsr=8-1andkeywords=good+to+great (Good to Great) by Jim Collins (Tony’s favorite book) https://www.amazon.com/Rich-Dads-CASHFLOW-Quadrant-Financial-ebook/dp/B0175P5MZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8andqid=1549057138andsr=8-1andkeywords=robert+kiyosaki+books (Cashflow Quadrant) by Robert Kiyosaki https://www.amazon.com/Rich-Dad-Poor-Teach-Middle-ebook/dp/B0175P82RA/ref=pd_sim_351_2?_encoding=UTF8andpd_rd_i=B0175P82RAandpd_rd_r=ced83d10-2669-11e9-bd58-413f05c8b3cbandpd_rd_w=ARYKvandpd_rd_wg=jAHsjandpf_rd_p=90485860-83e9-4fd9-b838-b28a9b7fda30andpf_rd_r=P20V6K2WE8NQDPAGY97Candpsc=1andrefRID=P20V6K2WE8NQDPAGY97C (Rich Dad Poor Dad) by Robert Kiyosaki https://www.amazon.com/10X-Rule-Difference-Between-Success-ebook/dp/B004X75OES/ref=sr_1_3?s=digital-textandie=UTF8andqid=1549057283andsr=1-3andkeywords=grant+cardone (The 10X Rule: The Only Difference Between Success and Failure) by Grant Cardone https://www.amazon.com/Be-Obsessed-Average-Grant-Cardone-ebook/dp/B016VRFTR4/ref=pd_sim_351_2?_encoding=UTF8andpd_rd_i=B016VRFTR4andpd_rd_r=280892ce-266a-11e9-9ef7-8b5dde2c9ca4andpd_rd_w=XZt3randpd_rd_wg=TnuPhandpf_rd_p=90485860-83e9-4fd9-b838-b28a9b7fda30andpf_rd_r=G3Q4VM22P0JW6VA509J8andpsc=1andrefRID=G3Q4VM22P0JW6VA509J8 (Be Obsessed or Be Average) by Grant Cardone TONY’S FAVORITE QUOTE “Good is the enemy of great.” – Jim Collins CONTACT TONY https://www.themillionairechoice.com/ (www.TheMillionaireChoice.com) https://tonybradshaw.com/ (www.TonyBradshaw.com)
Sat, 02 Feb 2019 - 1h 00min - 283 - 169: Cliffhangers
CLIFFHANGERS
Cliffhangers are endings in stories that leave an audience in suspense. The term cliffhanger originated in the 1930s from early film serials in which episodes ended with characters in desperate situations such as hanging off the edge of a cliff.
This episode explores why and how you can use cliffhangers in all your communication.
The reason to use them is simple and obvious. You do it to arouse and hold curiosity. Your aim should be to open curiosity loops and keep them open until late in your story, or at the end of it.
The word story refers to any intentional communication you have with people on or offline.
You will discover a powerful example of great cliffhangers in today’s episode. They are in the first two paragraphs of a short story called “Mrs. Kelly’s Monster,” by Jon Franklin.
Franklin is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist who shows you how to use fiction writing techniques to engage people in true stories.
You will also learn about the use of of this magnetic force in:
* News broadcasts
* Email
* Webinars
* Live sales presentations
Your ability to master the effective use of cliffhangers in all your communication will help you win people’s attention, trust, and business.
Get excited about the cliffhanger, a simple powerful tool to enrich your life and business.

IN LATE, OUT EARLY
You’ve learned about how to create a strong hook to open your stories in a previous episode. Now, we will take a deeper dive into the subject.
Learning how to grab people’s attention immediately is vital to your success as a storyteller. You can get everything right after your opening, but if that opening is weak, they will never experience your story.
This is particularly true in 2019; it’s the digital age, and we are used to everything on demand. Most people have a Twitter attention span.
In Late, Out Early is a screenwriting technique that’s beautifully explained by master screenwriting teacher, Syd Field in several of his books.
Field uses this term to describe how you create a compelling scene in a screenplay. Here’s what it means literally. You begin a scene at a tense moment in a conflict between characters. You thrust the audience into the conflict that’s already in progress (in late), let them experience it for a short while, then end the scene before the conflict is resolved (out early).
Psychologically, this hooks viewers by arousing strong curiosity and not satisfying that curiosity until much later in the script. The technique opens a curiosity loop and creates cliffhangers.
Ideally, you will continue to create cliffhangers throughout your story. That keeps people involved until the end.
This next point should be obvious, but I’ve seen it violated often. You must always deliver the payoff to any cliffhanger by resolving the problems you introduce. If you do not, you will have cheated your audience. They will feel it and draw away from you.
You will learn how James Cameron uses the in late, out early technique brilliantly in Terminator 2.
In this episode, you will also learn to ask better questions that will strengthen your storytelling power. Here is a typical bad question that people ask. How long should my video, sales letter, email, or any marketing message be? (they are all examples of stories).
Why is it a bad question? Because it does not have an answer that will empower you. It implies that there is an ideal length for your important communications with popspects, clients, and customers.
The question that will serve you better is: How can I keep people engaged in any message or story that I deliver no matter how long it is?
People will stop watching a boring thirty minute film, but they will remain engaged in a compelling three hour film.
You will also hear about a great exercise you can do immediately to add magnetic power to all your communication.

KILLER WORD
Are you a prisoner to a simple word that you hear every day? Many people are.
It’s a common word that we all use and take for granted. And, it’s a killer word. Literally.
The word is DECIDE. Here are two dictionary definitions of decide:
* Come to a resolution in the mind
* Make a choice from a number of alternatives
In this episode of one word stories, you’ll discover the deeper meaning of the word, decide. You will learn what makes it a killer word.
Decide is a simple word. It’s safe to assume that all of you know what it means. Still, many people have trouble making simple decisions.
Etymology, the study of word origins, teaches us a few fascinating things about decide:
* Decide has two parts, a prefix and a suffix.
* The prefix (the part that comes before) is de.
* The suffix (the part that comes after) is cide.
* Both parts are derived from Latin – de means off; cide means to kill (from the Latin verb, caedere)
* Decide literally means to kill off.
I believe that decisions often feel hard to make because they require that you kill off every alternative but one. It means giving something up. We don’t like giving things up.
Our resistance to giving things up creates a lot of conflict. We get caught up in the “what if” game. Faced with a number of alternatives, we ask, “What if I give up _____ and lose _____?
The what if game is a losing game. It creates an endless cycle of indecision that drains our energy.
If you have trouble making decisions, consider this thought. It could liberate you. You’re not really giving anything up when you decide. You can’t give up what you don’t have.
When your mind is reeling with alternatives to choose, you don’t “have” any of them until you make a choice. By not choosing, you have nothing.
Stop asking, “Which is the best choice?” It’s a bogus question because it doesn’t have an answer. The best choice is THE ONE YOU MAKE.
You will discover the truth of that last sentence when you ignore your mind chatter and take a bold step in one direction by choosing one alternative.
You choice, your action, will energize and empower you. Then, commit 100% to your choice, and make this other powerful discovery. Nothing means anything, until you make it something.”
Decide today to kill indecision. Step into your personal power by taking the power away from a killer word.
Sat, 19 Jan 2019 - 08min - 279 - 165: Story Endings
STORY ENDINGS
How do you create impactful story endings? Most of you are business storytellers; you use stories to communicate persuasive sales messages.
Those can be live presentations, webinars, sales letters, face-to-face, one-on-one sales, even phone conversations – any communication designed to move people to some kind of buying decision.
All of those qualify as stories. You can begin strongly, develop strongly, but if your story endings are weak, you will not influence people to take actions that will improve their lives, you will not move them to buy from you.
In this episode, you will learn about the important elements of all your story endings. These elements make up the secret sauce that gives all your business communication irresistible persuasion power.
These key questions will help you create knockout story endings:
* Do people must feel the conclusion of your story in their minds, hearts, and bodies? They must experience your message and feel satisfied and inspired by it. Inspired to say yes to what you’re offering.
* Have you delivered on the big promise that you have made at the beginning of your story? (hopefully, you have made one)
* Have you resolved all the problems you introduced at the beginning? Problems that you audience have and want to eliminate.
* Have you closed all the loops you created in your story? (curiosity loops that keep people engaged from beginning to end)
You will review two powerful analogies that help you clearly understand how strong story endings work. They are:
* The musical analogy – when you hear a classical symphony, you experience its beginning, middle, and end with your whole being. The final note of a symphony resonates in your gut. You feel a satisfied sense of conclusion.
* Ocean wave analogy – You experience the formation of an ocean wave, it’s build to a peak, and it’s rapid crashing resolution on the shore the same way you experience music.
Alo, you will rediscover the two things your story endings can’t live without:
* Future-casting – Your entire story is a journey for the person receiving it. As you guide your audience to the final destination, you must paint a vivid picture of what life will be like when they say yes to your offer.
* Call to action – This is where so many sales presentations (stories) wimp out. There is no room for unclear language, no room for words like i. You must confidently and firmly tell people exactly what to do to experience the promise, the big benefits of your offer. You must tell people what to do to buy your products and services.
Finally, you will be inspired when you hear the powerful ending of a great book on storytelling (title and author below).
I give you your call to action to be bold, passionate, and direct in delivering your business communication with engaging beginnings, compelling development, and irresistible story endings.

YOU ARE YOUR STORY
You don’t have to believe that you are your story. But, why wouldn’t you choose to believe it?
If you don’t like your current life, and you choose to say, “That’s the way it is. That’s reality, and I must accept it,” you will be right.
You won’t be right because it is an objective truth. You will be right because the words you say to yourself write the story that becomes your reality.
If you want to find intellectual arguments that debunk what I’m saying, you’ll find them.
I’m not interested in those arguments; I’m interested in the experiences of human beings whose lives offer irrefutable proof that your self talk define your beliefs, and your beliefs create your reality.
One of those human beings is today’s podcast guest. The trajectory of his life is one of the most brilliant demonstrations of the statement that you are your story.
Our guest is Randy Gage, an internationally respected and recognized prosperity mentor, an author who has written eleven books that have been translated into twenty-five languages, and a member of the Speakers Hall of Fame who has spoken to more than 2 million people across more than 50 countries.
Did I mention that he also loves to play softball?
It’s important to mention that Randy Gage is a multi-millionaire and a millionaire maker. His friends and business associates include some of the world’s most powerful people of influence. I’m not writing this to impress you. I want to impress upon you that Randy Gage should not “realistically” be the mega success that he is today. You’ll hear him say so in this podcast.
Many of Randy’s early life circumstances would paint a picture of a man headed for a life of crime and/or dereliction.
He was a teenage alcoholic and crystal meth addict. He was a thief who spent his sixteenth birthday in a jail cell waiting for trial on an armed robbery charge. He is a brilliant, articulate, high school droput.
In his early adulthood, he failed to pay taxes on his restaurant business, and the IRS seized and sold his restaurant.
He almost bled to death from a gunshot wound in his stomach.
You’ll be inspired and even transformed (if your mind and heart are open) by the abundant blessed life Randy Gage created in spite of those devastating circumstances by intentionally changing his mindset.
RANDY REWRITES HIS STORY
* Chapter 1 – Baxter Richardson, a teacher and dad to one of Randy’s friends, visits him in jail.
* Chapter 2-Baxter offers Randy this new story: “You don’t belong here. You’re capable of doing great things.”
* Chapter 3- Randy embraces Baxter’s story even though he doesn’t believe it yet.
* Chapter 4 – Randy tries his new story on for size and slowly live into it.
RANDY DISCOVERS PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
* Randy joins Amway.
* Amway introduces him to thought leaders like Wayne Dyer (you’ll belly laugh when you hear this story in the podcast).
* Randy learns to fail forward until he becomes a top earning network marketer.
* Randy becomes a world renowned network marketing trainer.
* Randy evolves into a critical thinker and world famous prosperity coach.
THE POWER OF LANGUAGE
Language is a living energy force. That’s why all my guests and I are passionate about books and reading.
Randy Gage gives you a life-changing gift in this episode when he reveals how the novel, Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand sparked his greatness, his genius, his creativity, and his ability to create enormous wealth.

SHOW, DON’T TELL
How do you feel when someone tells you do something? If you’re like me, you resist their command. You pull back, and, most probably don’t do what you’ve been told.
No one likes to be bossed. On the other hand, it feels great when you choose to do or buy something because it excites you and feels right for you.
Show, don’t tell is a powerful storytelling technique that allows people to engage with your narrative in a way that makes them feel respected and understood. It lowers and removes resistance to your message and your offers.
It creates a magnetic pull that attracts customers and clients to your business.
What does show, don’t tell mean? It means that you demonstrate the benefits and great value of your offers rather than talk about them hoping to convince people of your words.
A great way to learn the show, don’t tell technique is to watch great movies. You’ll notice that they pull you in by actions and vivid pictures; they don’t rely heavily on words to explain things to you.
EXAMPLES FROM MOVIES
* The Good, the Bad and the Ugly – Watch the opening sequence of this film, and time the moment when the first word is spoken. You may be surprised at how long you were engaged in this story without dialogue.
* The Spirit of the Beehive – A haunting film from Spain that explores the fragile world of a child’s imagination. There a long scenes without dialogue that brilliantly move the story forward with the characters’ actions. This movie will arouse powerful emotions without talking about them.
* The Godfather – This movie opened in 1971. It feels relevant and immediate today. You can learn so much about storytelling by watching The Godfather many times. The opening scene establishes the world of the story and reveals a lot about Don Corleone, the mob boss exquisitely played by Marlon Brando. It does this with actions. Watch it, and see what I mean.
Strong persuasive business storytelling uses show, don’t tell the same way movies do.
You’ve probably seen a live kitchen knife demonstration, or you’ve seen one on TV. If you are in the market for good kitchen knives, you will become fully engaged in a strong physical demonstration. Every action the presenter takes brings you closer to an enthusiastic decision to buy the knives. You make your purchase feeling that it was totally your choice. You were not pressured or manipulated into buying.
You’ll learn another example from business in this episode. I talk about network marketers who sell weight loss products like protein shakes. The novice pushes prospects away from products that can benefit them by blabbing on and on about the product. The list all it’s magical ingredients. They try to dazzle people with statistics and scientific data. Most prospects recoil from their pushy efforts.
Keep this in mind. You are never selling products. You are selling results that people strongly want. A good show, don’t tell scenario can demonstrate this.
Imagine an uncomfortably overweight man climbing stairs in his home. See him clutch the bannister; feel his discomfort as he slowly trudges up the staircase one step at a time. Experience his fatigue a he stops to catch his breath. His son enters the scene at the top of the stairs. He looks sadly at his dad, He approaches his father, takes him by the hand, and says, “I’m worried about you, dad. Your weight is dangerous to your health. I’m afraid that you won’t live long enough to meet your grandchildren.”
The son leaves. The father stands alone for a moment with tears in his eyes.
We cut to a scene sixty days later. Father and son are playing catch together in a park on a sunny day. Dad looks lean in his “new” body.Wed, 09 Jan 2019 - 20min - 276 - 162: Amazon Fortunes

What are universal stories? They are stories that speak to the deepest human needs. Stories that have a strong universal element create empathy and connection.
Business stories that are universal attract and win new clients and customers. This episode teaches you how to harness the element of universality in your business storytelling.
FOUR MOVIES WITH UNIVERSAL STORIES
* Rocky – explores the human need for significance
* E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial – the need to return home, to belong
* Field of Dreams – the need to dream and believe in our dreams
* Bohemian Rhapsody – the need for individual self expression
UNIVERSAL BUSINESS STORIES
Never make your marketing and sales messages about the greatness of your products and services. All your business storytelling should focus on the needs, desires, and dreams of a central character, which is always the avatar of your target market.
ANTHONY ROBBINS – 6 CORE HUMAN NEEDS
Anthony Robbins created this list of six profound human needs that motivate every choice we make.
* Certainty – the need for security, comfort, and consistency
* Uncertainty – the need for variety, challenges, adventure
* Significance – the need to feel important, needed, wanted, and worthy of love
* Love & Connection – the need to feel connected with and loved by others
* Growth – the need for constant development emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually
* Contribution – the need to give to others
This list is a powerful template to use every time you communicate with your target market. It can transform and enrich your life and business.Wed, 02 Jan 2019 - 13min - 274 - 160: Are You Delusional?
ARE YOU DELUSIONAL?
You’ve probably heard the expression, words are weapons. But I’ll bet you don’t know just how dangerous they can be. It’s not because you’re dumb. It’s because you and I use words all the time. So, we take them for granted.
This episode challenges your perception of one particular word that can be very dangerous. It can and does control most people’s behavior. How? It scares people to be labeled with this word, and they will go out of their way to avoid it.
The word is DELUSIONAL. The last thing most people want to hear is the question, “Are you delusional?”
Let’s look at how the dictionary defines delusional: 1) characterized by or holding idiosyncratic beliefs or impressions that are contradicted by reality or rational argument, typically as a symptom of mental disorder: hospitalization for schizophrenia and delusional paranoia | he was diagnosed with a delusional disorder. 2) based on or having faulty judgment; mistaken: their delusional belief in the project’s merits never wavers | I think the guy is being a bit delusional here.
Who wouldn’t want to avoid a label like that? I’ll tell you who. Exceptionally successful high achieving individuals. Huh? That’s right. I’m not making this up.
Here excerpts from an internationally recognized sales and marketing expert. He’s also a member of the National Speakers Association and Authors Guild. His name is Mark Tewart. He writes in his book, How to Be a Sales Superstar: Break All the Rules and Succeed While Doing It:
* You are who you decide to be at any given moment.
* Who you believe you are, is who you will become.
* Sales superstars create power in a belief system that supports their eventual triumph, no matter what temporary setbacks they might encounter.
* You must become what most people would describe as “delusional.”
* A delusional mindset, contrary to popular belief, can be an absolutely healthy attribute in your progression toward your goals.
Does Mark Tewart practice what he preaches? Here is what he says about himself: “I believe that I am delusional in my mindset, but my delusion creates my reality.”
I love Mark’s book. I think you should buy it yesterday. On page 33, he has this heading:
Let Your Fantasy Be Your Reality
Right beneath it, is a wonderful quote from a Zen Buddhist teacher, Shunryu Suzuki: “In the mind of the beginner there are many possibilities and in the mind of the expert there are few.”
That doesn’t mean you should not be an expert. It means, don’t let your immense knowledge close your mind to learning and growth.
You’ll also hear a quote about the awesome power fo reading in this episode from multimillionaire sales trainer, Grant Cardone.
This is the final episode of Change Your Story, Change Your Life in 2018 (unless I get a last minute inspiration). It’s my wish that you receive what you hear in Are You Delusional with a totally open mind. Then, take one or two simple actions that will transform and enrich your life and business in 2019.
Thank you for being a loyal listener. I look forward to serving well in the new year.

How to Be a Sales Superstar: Break All the Rules and Succeed While Doing It – by Mark TewartSat, 29 Dec 2018 - 13min - 273 - 159: Conflict in Storytelling
CONFLICT IN STORYTELLING
Conflict in storytelling is a vital element to all great stories. In fact, you won’t a story if you do not introduce and develop conflict from beginning to end.
Why? Because people get involved and remain engaged in your story when it takes them on a journey toward the resolution of conflict.
Think of conflict in storytelling as a powerful tool to create and sustain tension. Tension hooks and holds attention.
LEARN FROM MOVIES
Two movies that demonstrate intense conflict in storytelling are:
* E. T. The Extra-Terrestrial – directed by Steven Spielberg
* Rocky – starring Sylvester Stallone
CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Why do people see plays and movies more than once? They want to experience the resolution of conflict in storytelling. The journey, the struggle against obstacles, toward the resolution of conflict arouse strong emotions and makes people more alive.
Remember this rule of storytelling. People are held and remain engaged by the process of resolution, not the outcome.
In this episode, you will gain insight to three great stories that people return to again and again even though they know how those stories end. They are:
* Hamlet by William Shakespeare
* Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
* It’s A Wonderful Life – starring James Stewart and directed by Frank Capra
CONFLICT IN STORYTELLING FOR BUSINESS
You will learn why you always want to use conflict in storytelling for your presentations, sales and marketing messages, and pitches to enrol people in your ideas or cause.
This is why storytelling works so well to earn your money and create success in your business:
* Character – You create a central character that represents your audience’s avatar; your audience is your specific target market.
* Pain Point – You identify your audience’s biggest pain point.
* Resolution – You promise to eliminate pain and resolve your audience’s problem.
* Conflict – You introduce conflict to take your audience on a satisfying resolution journey.
* Empathy & Rapport – You identify your audience’s conflict and make them feel understood. That makes them like and trust you, and feel that they know you.
ONE PLUS ONE IS THREE

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. VIVID STORYTELLING…
…is not optional. If it ain’t vivid, it ain’t a story; it’s just an idea.
Warning! This episode may give you awesome communication power. Can you handle it?
Before we talk about vivid, let’s clarify what storytelling is for those of you who want to sell more products and services and/or influence people to act on your words. Think of storytelling as a journey for your audience that takes them from an undesired or painful before state, through an obstacle course, to strongly desired after state. You, the storyteller, are guiding and directing that journey. Your responsibility is to make it an authentic adventure of a lifetime. That’s where vivid comes in.
You make your story vivid by using sensory language. Remember this easy rule. Use your senses, all five of them. Make your audience see, hear, smell, taste, and touch (feel) your story. When you do that, you speak to the heart; when you don’t do it, you appeal only to logic, to the head. Not good. When your communication does not appeal to and arouse emotion, it has little to no impact. It’s barely heard and quickly forgotten.
Here is another import tip to remind you how to communicate vividly and strongly. Never ask your audience to figure out what you’re talking about on their own. There are two major problems with that. One, your message is open to too many different interpretations when it doesn’t vividly jump out at people. Two, imagining things requires energy that most people are not willing to give.
Let’s compare head language with heart language:
In this episode, you will also hear two powerful examples of vivid storytelling from two professionally written short stories, one of them based on a real life event.
You can easily transform your communication into a magnetic force that compels people to listen to you and act on what you tell them. This can earn you a lot of money, and it will enrich the lives of the people you meet.
Listen to this podcast more once, take notes, then, practice, practic, practice. You will experience mastery.

HOW TO BEGIN A STORY
This is one of the most important episodes in the series on How To Tell A Story.
It’s important for two reasons. One, your opening is your hook; it must create immediate engagement with your audience. Two, it sets the tone and the expectation for everything that follows in your story.
The word, story, defines all of your intentional communication. It can be a presentation to a large audience, a one-on-one conversation, either personal or business, a YouTube video, an email. A story is absolutely anything that uses words to impact and influence another human being.
You will learn about two provocative hooks, real examples from two compelling presentations that I experienced.
Plus, you’ll discover these powerful techniques for how to begin a story:
* Make a bold statement
* Open with a shocking statistic
* Begin with a prop
* Start with anything that arouses strong curiosity
Finally, you will hear the opening of a short story called “Mrs. Kelly’s MOnster,” by Jon Franklin, a Nobel Prize winning journalist.

DO YOU MATTER?
Of course you matter. The question is, do you allow yourself to know it?
This episode explores the story we create about the word, contribution.
You’ll hear a true story about an acting student of mine who loved acting, was good at it, and gave it up because she did not believe that acting was a profession for responsible adults.
Actually, that belief, that story, came from her parents. She had internalized it, and felt a burden of guilt when she thought about living her dream to be an actor. The seed of that guilt was society’s limiting belief about contribution.
THIS EPISODE WILL EXPAND YOUR THINKING ABOUT:
* Society’s most valued and honored professions
* “Selfish” professions
* Taboo professions
* People without professions or any meaningful work
WILL YOU EMBRACE THE CHALLENGE?
* To be honest about the work and life choices you’ve made
* To discover and revive your buried dreams
* To allow yourself to want what you want without any justification to anyone else
Sat, 08 Dec 2018 - 20min - 267 - 153: Elements of Storytelling
ELEMENTS OF STORYTELLING
This episode reveals the 6 essential elements of storytelling.
There are many kinds of storytelling. There are novels, short stories, parable, screenplays, to name a few.
This podcast and episode focus specifically on persuasive storytelling for business and for personal influence. In this context, think of storytelling as sharply focused intentional communication that engages people, arouses their emotions, and inspires them to take actions that will improve their lives.
Listen to this to learn the WHAT of storytelling. In future episodes, you learn the HOW by exploring each of the elements of storytelling in greater detail. Here are the…
6 ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF STORYTELLING
* IMMEDIATE ENGAGEMENT – Your goal as a persuasive communicator is to grab your audience’s full attention immediately.
* MYSTERY – You hold people’s attention by creating a mounting sense of mystery.
* VIVID – Always communicate with sensory language. Paint three dimensional word pictures by using your senses – all 5 of them. Make people hear, see, smell, taste, and feel what you are talking about. By doing that, you touch and move their emotions.
* CONFLICT – People identify with struggle. Learn to make your audience central characters in narratives that take them on a journey from a painful before state to a desirable after state. Along the way, they will face obstacles that you will help them overcome. This process involves tension and conflict. You are taking people on a hero’s journey in which they play the hero.
* SHOW, DON’T TELL – Showing is like lecturing; it speaks to people’s heads. “Show” storytelling bombards your audience with data. It does not touch them emotionally. Telling is example based storytelling that uses vivid sensory language that depicts human beings in struggles and actions as they move toward a desired goal. “Tell” storytelling speaks to the heart and moves people emotionally.
* UNIVERSAL – A universal story allows people to see themselves in the narrative. They identify with the character’s pain, struggle, and desired outcome. Universal stories create deep rapport, and they win trust.
Listen to this episode more than once. Burn the 6 essential elements of storytelling into your memory. Use them when you speak to people every day. You communication will gain great clarity, confidence, and power.

WHAT IS STORY STRUCTURE?
Ready for the secret to story structure? Here it is. Every story you tell must have a clear BEGINNING, MIDDLE, and END.
I know. that sounds insultingly obvious. Truth is, it’s no more obvious than “what you focus on expands,” or “you’ve got to give to get.” And, like those often repeated phrases that may seem like cliches, the concept of beginning, middle, and end widely misunderstood, unclear, or not practiced at all.
The proper application of beginning, middle, and end in your business storytelling (the persuasive communication of your brand message) can take your company and brand from invisibility to world class recognition.
This episode clarifies the intention or purpose of each section of your business story that collectively take your prospective clients and customers on a transformation journey that gets them excited to do business with you.
These are the three specific intentions of a strong story structure:
* BEGINNING – to engage your audience immediately, introduce your story’s character and biggest problem, and your promise to solve that problem
* MIDDLE – to embark on the character’s journey toward a solution, overcome a series of obstacle, and discover the solution (your product or service)
* END – to rapidly move toward a resolution, and paint a vivid picture of what your character’s life will after saying yes to your offer
You will also learn:
* The magic and power of the number 3 and how to use it to your advantage
* How to heighten your awareness of the 3 in your life, in nature, and the universe
* How listening to a piece of music can help you become a persuasive storyteller
Finally, you will find out what you can expect from the episode on storytelling that will follow this one.Wed, 28 Nov 2018 - 13min - 264 - 150: Identity Switch
SIX WOMEN IN ONE
Who are you? Do you really know? Are you the same person all the time? Or, do you do an identity switch depending on the circumstances or the people you are with?
Don’t worry. If you answered yes to the identity switch question, that’s a good thing. Unless of course, you’re not aware of it, or you do it to manipulate and fool people. That kind of identity switch is not healthy or ethical.
Meet Madelyn Wilkinson, today’s smart, funny, passionate, compassionate podcast guest. She’s a master of the identity switch. In her case, it means that she is evolving, self-aware, and not afraid of change. In other words, she is always growing and intensely alive.
Madelyn has identified and nurtured six personality traits in herself that have developed into independent characters or personas. Each one shows up when it is most appropriate for her to show up.
This episode is an excellent and unique example of “changing your story.”
You may be thinking that we all act differently in different situations. Most of us do. But Madelyn takes the identity switch a step further. Her different personas have different wardrobes, thoughts, emotions, and actions. That may sound like trickery to you. It isn’t at all. It’s about giving yourself permission to be fully present and authentic in all situations.
Listen to Madelyn’s entertaining, revealing, thought provoking story. Here are a few highlights:
* Madelyn’s secret for creating magic in her world
* The persona that delights children and inspires them to grow
* Who Madelyn is as a secret agent
* The freedom of switching from childlike innocence to bold sultry confidence

WHY STORY?
Do you know why you can’t say, “I’m not a storyteller?” Because you are a storytelling machine. We all are.
Stories and storytelling is hardwired into our DNA. We create meaning and purpose in our lives by creating narratives. That’s how I work; that’s how you work. Each of us is a storytelling machine.
You might say, “I suck at storytelling.” That may very well be. But what does that really mean?
It means that you allow the random voices in your head to shape your life, moment to moment. That’s what most people do. They live in reaction to people and events.
Something unpleasant happens, and they feel bad. Someone criticizes them, and they feel blue. I know. I lived my life for a long time that way. It’s like being a feather in the wind. You are helplessly blown in any direction the wind chooses.
It doesn’t have to be that way. You can choose to take responsibility for the raging tide of inner voices and direct them wherever you wish. That choice, that decision, makes you a conscious storyteller. It empowers you. It gives you the ability to shape your destiny, impact the lives of others, and have a lot of fun living.
That’s my preamble. It lays the foundation for your mastery of storytelling to enrich your life, other’s lives, and your business.
STORYTELLING IS NOT OPTIONAL
Once you accept that you are a storyteller by default, you will get excited by things you can accomplish with authentic stories that are well told.
One of things you will discover in this episode is the science behind storytelling. You’ll see why teaching and selling with data alone is not effective. You’ll learn how the human responds to a good story, very much the way you did when you were a child and your parents said, “Let me tell you a story.”
This short episode will be an eyeopener and it can inspire you to fall in love with storytelling for a rich life and business.Wed, 21 Nov 2018 - 09min - 262 - 148: Mental Strength

TUNE INTO YOU
You radio is playing loud and clear, but can you hear it through the noise?
Our thoughts radiate at different frequencies. Many people are tuned into negative chatter, frequencies of lack and fear, or just plain noise.
They find it hard to believe that there are empowering thoughts beneath the static. All they have to do to hear them is turn the dial on You Radio.
Sounds strange? The little story in this podcast will clear the air and might even let you hear your own empowering music.Wed, 31 Oct 2018 - 09min - 256 - 142: Mighty Woman
MIGHTY BY CHOICE
Today’s podcast is an interview with a young woman who is mighty by choice. Her name is Caitlin Pyle. She believes, as I do, that anyone can be mighty by choice.
Her story is about her fascinating journey from living by other people’s rules to claiming her power and learning to live by her own rules.
You can listen to her story two ways. One, you can hear it and say, “That’s great for her, but my situation is very different. I can never do what she did.”
Two, you can receive Caitlin’s message and say, “Wow! She went from feeling powerless to feeling strong by making a decision to do so. I can make the same kind of decision.” Which option will serve you best?
Caitlin changed her identity story from employee to entrepreneur. That change allowed her to become a millionaire by age 30.
Here are just a few of the powerful inspirational nuggets you’ll take away from my interview with Caitlin Pyle:
* How she decided to wrap herself in strength, might, and power
* The only two sources of all your actions – fear and love
* How you become a magnet when you become a leader
* The two most important choices of your life – to be outer directed or inner directed
* The true meaning of guilt
* The true meaning of self forgiveness
* Why no one has the real power to bully you
* How to successfully work at home
* And, yes, there is much, much, more…

PROCRASTINATION JOY
This podcast is my tribute to Dan Sullivan who writes brilliantly about the joy of procrastination.
Dan is the founder of Strategic Coach, a company that helps elite entrepreneurs achieve exponential success.
He is an original thinker who helps you (among other things) to reframe procrastination from a negative to a positive experience. He has written an entire book on the subject called “Procrastination Priority.”
He also does a podcast with another brilliant marketer, Dean Jackson, called “The Joy of Procrastination.” Dean, by the way, is the man who invented the capture page.
In this episode, I focus on three things that help you to liberate yourself from the weight and bondage of procrastination:
* Shame
* Loneliness
* Goals
Also, I offer you this powerful thought that Dan expresses that can literally transform and enrich your life. “Self forgiveness is when you give up wishing that you had a better past.”Wed, 24 Oct 2018 - 14min - 254 - 140: Becoming Burlesque
LIFE ON YOUR OWN TERMS
Becoming Burlesque is a new feature film written and directed by Jackie English.
It’s also a story about choosing to live the life you desire, the life of your dreams, instead of a life of obligation.
This podcast is an interview with Jackie English. It takes you on a journey of discovery. It will inspire you and awaken your courage and your dreams.
Jackie imagined herself in many different roles as she was growing up – a pilot, a jockey, an architect, a cop. For awhile, she went corporate. Then, she listened to her heart and began her life as performer. That led to her current role as a film director.
Here are a few of the gems you’ll find in this podcast:
* The power of letting your path choose you
* The joy of choosing what seems hard
* The magic of doing something you want without overthinking it
* The importance of expanding your comfort zone
* The reassurance that everyone feels doubt and fear
* The value of challenging what feels impossible
