A few months ago, Xbox shocked the world with a series of studio closures including the beloved developer of Hi-Fi Rush, Tango Gameworks. This past week, news that was nearly as shocking broke that Krafton, publisher of PUBG and The Callisto Protocol, had acquired Tango as well as the rights to Hi-Fi Rush. The big question around Game Pass ever since the ABK acquisition, other than "Will Call of Duty come to Game Pass?", has been "Will Xbox raise prices on Game Pass?" We now have that answer, and it is yes. The pricing isn't the only thing changing though, as Microsoft has taken the bold step of removing Day-One first party releases from all Game Pass tiers except for the most expensive option. On top of that, PC Game Pass players do get access but for almost half the cost of what console players have to pay. Is Xbox giving the middle finger to their dedicated console base? The other big topic for the week is Kevin was finally able to jump into Shadow of the Erdtree and he shares all of his thoughts after spending 28 hours in the DLC. To say that Xbox has had a rough go of it lately would be an understatement. Because of that, Microsoft had a lot riding on their Xbox Showcase for 2024. With a true PlayStation Showcase nowhere in sight, could Xbox FINALLY get back some positive momentum? In a word, that answer was a loud and resounding YES! After nearly two years of speculation, Microsoft finally gave an answer to whether or not new Call of Duty releases would come to Game Pass. The answer, is YES. While this is great for Xbox owners, Kevin believes we will look back on this decision as the final nail in the coffin for the Xbox brand as a whole. The guys also discuss their love for Animal Well, Paper Mario the Thousand-Year Door, Assassin's Creed Shadows' reveal, and much more!

Square Enix has always been a third-party developer/publisher, but over the years they have become synonymous with PlayStation. That seems to be changing in the very-near future. After announcing that both FF7 Remake and FF16 failed to hit internal targets, some questionable publishing decisions, and layoffs across the US and EU, Square Enix has announced they will be getting aggressive with more multi-platform releases. Overall this is a good thing for gamers everywhere, but the biggest question right now is what this means for the FF7 Remake project moving forward. In the midst of a gaming lull after finishing up FF7 Rebirth, Kevin finally decided there was a game that had been in his backlog for far too long. 11 years after it's initial release he is finally playing through BioShock Infinite. The long-rumored-but-yet-to-be-officially-confirmed PS5 Pro has had even more details leak, this time around what will be required for a game to be labeled as PS5 Pro Enhanced. At this point, we seemingly know everything about this console except what it looks like, what it will cost, and when it will finally be released. Let's spoil the hell out of Spider-Man 2!

With the Mario movie making well over a billion at the global box office, we knew it was only a matter of time until Nintendo's next biggest franchise got the big screen treatment. This past week saw the inevitable announcement of a Zelda movie, with a twist that it will be live action instead of animated... To say the fanbase is a bit concerned is an understatement. Five years ago a Ninja Gaiden-esque time-traveling Metroidvania in the form of The Messenger was released, and became one of the best games released that year. The first big release of 2023 (sorry, Forspoken) has arrived in Dead Space. For the first time in over a month, the boys are in the same room to record! They both talk through their cruise experiences over the past couple of weeks, before getting down to brass tacks. After a week off while Kevin was cruising around the Caribbean, we're back! James Soler guest stars with Kevin this week, as now Sean is cruising around the Caribbean. Even though we are all sick of talking about it, some interesting new news has surfaced related to the pending Activision acquisition by Microsoft. The FTC may be filing an anti-trust lawsuit, Sony says that Xbox wants to turn them into Nintendo, and that it could hurt devs and lead to price increases, Microsoft has reportedly offered Sony a 10 year deal on Call of Duty, and apparently Xbox and PlayStation don't plan for the new console generation to start until 2028. It's a lot to cover, but the guys are here to unpack it all! Ubisoft also celebrated Splinter Cell's 20th anniversary with some updates on the in-development remake, James beat God of War Ragnarok, Kevin is about halfway through it, James went back to Spirit Tracks for some reason, and lots more is discussed!

After many months of rumors and speculation, Sony finally revealed that the PSVR 2 will be releasing in February 2023 and will cost a whopping $550... After so many rumors over the past year or so, Konami finally pulled back the curtain and revealed that Silent Hill is coming back! (Still no Silent Hills tho...) Three new games, a Silent Hill movie reboot, as well as the much anticipated remake of Silent Hill 2 were all announced. The guys are excited, but Kevin (of course) is more excited for what this probably means for another Konami series that he is kinda fond of... Google Stadia is officially dead. It took a lot longer than most thought, but the streaming only service is dead as of January next year. What could potentially be the biggest leak ever in gaming history, happened over the past week. Leaked footage of GTA 6 spread across the interwebs, and every social media platform you can imagine. This is horrible for Rockstar and Take 2, but outside of that, the guys agree it is pretty cool to see a game of this magnitude in the early stages of development (footage was apparently from 2019), and it has them both excited for the eventual release of the full game. Since E3 is essentially dead, there are some random weeks in September where you end up having 3 different online presentations of upcoming games. Nintendo held a much rumored Direct, PlayStation held a State of Play (instead of a Showcase like everyone hoped), and Ubisoft held their Ubisoft Forward event. Out of all of that we got a release date, and a name, for Breath of the Wild's sequel, an awesome look at God of War Ragnarok, a lot of Assassin's Creed, and a bunch of smaller games. One of the most controversial remakes/remasters/re-releases is finally out in the wild. The Last Of Us Part 1 is built from the ground up for PS5, but is it worth the full price of $70? The guys have both spent a few hours with it so far, and give their thoughts so far on this newest version of one of the best games ever made. Last week also saw the release of the TMNT Cowabunga Collection, including 13 games, along with impressive extras like instructions manuals, box art, magazine ads, and lots more. Gamescom 2022 is in the books, with the biggest news coming from, of course, Geoff Keighley's Opening Night Live stream. Blossom Tales 2 has been released, 5 years after the first Zelda-like, and it was one of the few remaining games of 2022 that the guys were looking forward to. Kevin has beaten it, and Sean is near the end, so they give their full thoughts on the game. On the news side of things, Embracer's acquisitions just keep on coming. This time they acquired the Tolkien-verse, along with Limited Run Games and a few other companies as well. The biggest news, however, came from a line in their press release (which has since been redacted) that seemed to indicate the beleaguered KOTOR Remake is still alive but has switched developers. Sony also revealed some details around what Team Asobi has been up to, with the studio seemingly getting ready for expansion, and a leak from Amazon shows that Dead Island 2 is alive and well and primed for a release early next year.

More details emerged this past week on documents submitted by both Microsoft and Sony in Brazil in response to the potential acquisition of Activision. If you thought the Console Wars were dead, they are alive and well between these two companies. There was a lot of finger pointing, but aren't both companies accusing each other of the same thing? And aren't they both right? Take Two also revealed in their latest financial briefing that they expect GTA 6 to set creative benchmarks in the gaming space, but also for entertainment in general. This seems a bit much, but if anyone can pull it off it is probably Rockstar. Two reports from Bloomberg set the stage for this week's episode, as they leaked details around GTA 6, as well as the unfortunate report that the KOTOR Remake is in serious trouble. The guys cover the GTA 6 leaks first, as we found out the reported setting of the game, protagonist details, as well as the plans to expand the game and map in the future. All of this sounds great, but could the reported changes at Rockstar also change what makes GTA, GTA? On the KOTOR front, it seems that the project may be in serious jeopardy of ever releasing, as Sony was not at all impressed with a recent demo of the game, causing two high level members of Aspyr to be unceremoniously fired. It's been a while since we brought out the Multi-Tap for a podcast, so this week we are joined by two of our friends in James Soler and Derek Bamford! The Last Of Us Part 1 continues to be a hotly debated topic, and that increased even more this past week when leaks began to surface that seemingly contradicted what Naughty Dog had been saying about the remake. After this, PlayStation released a 10 minute video detailing the enhancements to the game, but opinions remain mixed to say the least. Speaking of Naughty Dog, we also found out that Bruce Straley has re-appeared and formed a new development studio, and the godfather of FPS games, John Romero, also revealed that he is starting work on a new FPS in Unreal 5 with a "major publisher". PlayStation had a busy week with closing the Bungie acquisition, as well as officially acquiring Haven Studios. The Haven acquisition is probably most interesting, as a recent interview detailed that the acquisition is about much more than the game they are working on, as there will be a heavy focus on cloud technology and R&D. OF COURSE the release date for Ragnarok was announced right after the last episode was recorded... Now that we know when we will all finally get our hands on the much anticipated sequel, it's time for a hype check. Also, do the collector's editions give us a hint at a certain weapon we will be able to wield as Kratos? The ESA also announced that they will be partnering with ReedPop to revamp E3 in 2023 and try to bring it back to life. The problem, though, is that if the big guns aren't interested in E3 (as they clearly no longer need them), what will E3 actually be? The guys are back a week earlier than expected, because Kevin had to push his cruise to the fall after a family member tested positive for Covid... After being burned so many times in the past, the guys kept their hype levels to a minimum for Sony's latest State of Play. What they never could have imagined was that the show would deliver it's most impressive outing yet. From Resident Evil 4 Remake, to Horizon: Call of the Mountain, to The Callisto Protocol, and Final Fantasy 16, this show was an absolute banger from beginning to end, and they couldn't wait to cover everything that was shown off. Sony is kicking off Summer Game Fest with their first State of Play in a few months, said to be focused on third party games and a sneak peek of PSVR2 games as well. That, of course, won't stop people (including Sean and Kevin) from getting overhyped, and it also means it's time for some predictions to be made. Star Wars Celebration saw the reveal of the long-rumored sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, now officially known as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. While the first game didn't blow either of the guys away, there is a solid foundation that they both will be fully realized into a great sequel next year. We are nearing the launch of the "All New PlayStation Plus", and Sony finally revealed the initial, partial, lineup of games that will hit the service at launch. There are definitely some heavy hitters on the list, but the guys both think the service seems to be more designed for newcomers to the PlayStation ecosystem. Ubisoft also announced that Ubisoft+ will be coming to PlayStation as well, and that Ubisoft Classics will be bundled into the two top tiers of the service. We also got reports that there are multiple Silent Hills in development, including a Silent Hill 2 remake, an episodic series, and a new mainline entry as well. "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad." That famous Shigeru Miyamoto quote is probably ringing in the heads of all Xbox fans after Bethesda announced that both Redfall and Starfield have been delayed to the first half of 2023. With some developers apparently being worried that if Starfield released this year it had the potential to be the "next Cyberpunk", the delay is a good thing, but it does leave Xbox without any exclusives for the rest of 2022. EA also officially announced that they are ditching FIFA, and that their annual soccer release will now be titled EA Sports FC. FIFA, however, isn't sitting idly by as they have pledged to release their own soccer game to directly compete with EA. After a week off, due to Kevin being deathly sick, the boys are back in town! The trend of acquisitions continues as Embracer has purchased Square Enix's western studios for $300M. While Square Enix didn't seem to ever be content with the output and success of these studios, the price tag seems like an incredible bargain when you look at the IP alone that is part of the acquisition. In other surprising news, WB Montreal announced that the last gen versions of Gotham Knights have been shelved and the game will only release on current gen systems and PCs this October. This has the guys excited as the industry slowly starts to pivot away from last gen consoles, but neither are sold on the game just yet. God of War Ragnarok is easily one of the most anticipated games slated for 2022, but we haven't seen or heard anything about it since last September. On the fourth anniversary of God of War's release last week, the Animation Director tweeted that the game is still coming out this year. The guys discuss whether or not they believe him, and what they think a potential release date could be. We also got news that ANOTHER Star Wars game is in development, this time from Amy Hennig and Skydance New Media. Hopefully this will end up being what Project Ragtag could have been. Last week was a slow one for news, but there were two big announcements that will make some people very happy. Max Payne 1 and 2 are both getting full blown current-gen remakes, and Square Enix randomly announced Kingdom Hearts IV on Sunday morning. Neither of these games are on the radar of the guys, but they still run through their thoughts on both announcements. After month's of speculation and rumors, Sony finally unveiled the All New PS Plus ahead of it's release this coming June. It was a very sloooowwwww news week in the world of video games, which means the guys spend the bulk of this episode talking about their progress in Elden Ring. Luckily for Kevin, after starting off lukewarm on the game, Elden Ring has finally clicked for him and he is now loving his 20 hours so far with it. The game is easily one of the most anticipated games for both of the guys in 2022, and after spending around 20 hours with it so far it is living up to the hype. In the least surprising news ever, Rockstar has officially confirmed that the "next GTA" game is in development (which has subsequently been referred to as GTA 6). While this isn't surprising in the least, it is good to finally get confirmation that we will be getting a new mainline game at some point in the next few years. Rockstar also revealed the release date for GTA 5 on current gen systems, as well as the improvements that will come along with it. Yacht Club unveiled their first new game since Shovel Knight in Mina the Hollower. Curiously though, even with the success of Shovel Knight, they are once again going the kickstarter route which is an interesting choice to say the least. Before January could even come to a close we got ANOTHER huge acquisition in gaming. Sony has announced that they are purchasing Bungie to the tune of $3.6B, their biggest acquisition yet. Unlike Microsoft, however, Sony immediately announced that Destiny 2 and projects currently in development by Bungie would remain multiplatform. While this is a good move by Sony, it does beg the question - Why? In other acquisition related news, it appears that the next three COD games will still be coming to PlayStation, but that may be all...
