Titusville Playhouse, lnc. was established on August 29, 1965. after putting on shows in a 'garage playhouse setting, an old church building on Dummit Avenue, was purchased using borrowed money and some savings. The building was renovated to create a 92-seat theatre that opened on May 12, 1972, and produces five shows per season.

Listen as Mr. Heron discusses the upcoming shows, we can see this upcoming show season and provides an update on the three new performance venues on the properties purchased by the Playhouse in 2021.

Join us on 321 Lift Off for a conversation about the Harry and Harriet Moore Museum located in Mims on Florida’s Space Coast

Harry T. Moore and his wife, Harriette, were educators by profession. They lived in Mims, Florida, a small citrus town near Orlando, and taught in segregated public schools in and around Brevard County from 1925 to 1946. The Moore’s were the first civil rights activists of the modern civil rights era in the State of Florida. Harry organized the first Brevard County Branch of the NAACP in 1934 and became President of the Florida Conference of NAACP branches in 1941.

On Christmas night in 1951, after the Moore family celebrated Christmas and the couple’s 25th wedding anniversary, a bomb exploded under the bedroom of Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore’s home in Mims. Mr. Moore died in the blast, while Mrs. Moore died nine days later.

Established as the Aladdin Theater, the doors opened to the public on August 18, 1924, showing silent movies. Later, Brevard’s first “talkie” movie house became known as “the showplace of the Indian River Section.” Several owners and several decades later, the auditorium was acquired by the City of Cocoa, changing the name to The Cocoa Village Playhouse. The Brevard County Community College District Board of Trustees purchased the playhouse in 1984 for $1 from the city. In 1991, the auditorium was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in Tallahassee. In the Spring of 2011, Brevard Community College returned ownership of the Cocoa Village Playhouse to the City of Cocoa, who started a million-dollar renovation on the building in 2012. Today, the City of Cocoa still owns the playhouse, and it is considered one of the most beautiful theatres in Florida.

Lawndale is a historic home in Rockledge, Florida, built by Hiram Smith Williams, a carriage builder by trade. Williams came to Florida from Alabama to find new prospects during the economic turmoil of the Reconstruction period following the Civil War. He began working to promote and lead the community, became the first postmaster for Rockledge, served as County Treasurer, served as a State Senator in the mid-1880s, and established the Brevard Telephone Company later in life.

We will be on location at the museum speaking with the docents (guides), exploring the history of the historic home and the Williams family who created it.

Join us Friday 11/5 at 9:30 a.m. at Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum in Titusville as they prepare for their Veterans Day Open House scheduled for November 13 and 14.

The theme of the Open House will be “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles,” and admission to the open house is free for all active duty, retired or separated military, and Florida residents.

We will be on scene at the museum to discuss the Open House and the various types of exhibits visitors can experience throughout the weekend!

Join us Friday 10/29 at 11 a.m. when we sit down with a very intriguing person here on the Space Coast, Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

Sheriff Ivey has been a Law Enforcement Officer for over three decades, is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, and has a Bachelor’s Degree from Daytona State College in Management and Supervision.

We will sit down with Sheriff Ivey, who has made national news with his creative approaches to safety, to discuss the various methods that have made our Sheriff a beloved community leader.

There is no place like the Wizard of Oz Museum, which features a new immersive Wizard of Oz show where visitors can be placed into Dorothy's shoes and travel through a tornado, munchkin land, the dark forest, and the poppy field that leads into Emerald City.

We will be on location somewhere over the rainbow at the museum speaking with Fred Trust, who is making his entire Wizard of Oz collection open to the public this fall!

Lift off with us on Friday, October 15 at 10 a.m. at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, where we will be enjoying the flavors of the Taste of Space food festival. The food festival runs from October 8 through November 5 and offers a new menu of gastronomic delight.

Guests can try delectable, seasonal food items and local brews and may attend a progressive dinner event, including a “Marstini” shake-off event at the end of the festival. Some of the delicious meals served at the Orbit Café include a beef brisket slider smothered with chipotle barbecue sauce and fried onions, a hot turkey and cranberry brie melt, and a delicious pumpkin whoopie pie, to name a few.

Join us Friday, September 17 at 10 a.m. when we speak with our guest, Astronaut Mike McCulley, a retired American naval officer, aviator, test pilot, former NASA astronaut, and was the first submariner in space.

In addition to his time in space as Space Shuttle pilot for the STS-34 mission, Mr. McCulley has flown over 50 aircraft types, logging over 5,000 flying hours, and has nearly 400 carrier landings from six aircraft carriers.

We will be on location at Longboards Tiki Beach Grille, where we will be discussing Mr. McCulley's career and what he's been up to since his retirement in 2007.
