Wed, 13 Mar 2024 - 1h 06min - 63 - All That vs Alex Mack
In this episode, we dive deep into the nostalgic waters of 90s Nickelodeon and two iconic shows that came out in 1994 : "All That" and "The Secret World of Alex Mack."
We kick things off with "All That," the sketch comedy show that was essentially our version of "Saturday Night Live" for kids. We share our mixed feelings about the show's quality over the years, but we can't help but love the skits that gave us a good laugh, like Ask Ashley or Vital Information, and the pop culture references that kept us hooked. I think the best part about each episode though was the special musical guest!
Then, we shift gears to "The Secret World of Alex Mack," a show that featured a teenage girl with superpowers. We discuss the relatability of Alex's character, who was a tomboy yet still had a girly side, and how the show resonated with us as kids. It was a show that felt ahead of its time, breaking the mold with a strong female lead who wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty.
So, grab your orange soda and Capri Suns, and join us for this trip down memory lane. Whether you were team All That or team Alex Mack, there's something in this episode for every 90s kid at heart.

Wed, 11 Oct 2023 - 42min - 49 - Chapter One
Once upon a midnight dreary
As we ponder weak and weary
Only one thought came to our minds
We have to start in on Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Any of their features
You're Invited, Adventures Of and their movies galore
So sit back and enjoy the ride
Cause if it's up to me
Or me
You'll RSVP
And with Halloween around the corner, what better way than to jump into DOUBLE, DOUBLE TOIL AND TROUBLE. While we know this was technically their "second" movie, it came out in 1993 (HAPPY 30TH ANNIVERSARY) and it is the perfect season to discuss this classic title of theirs.
While there are numerous Mary-Kate Olsen, and Ashley Olsen rewatch podcasts out there, we are NOT going to turn solely into that. We do love those other podcasts but our focus will still be on the 90s itself and how these two power-house girls (at the time) made an impact on our lives. We hope you enjoy CHAPTER ONE

Wed, 30 Aug 2023 - 1h 06min - 43 - Dog Eat Dog World
This week we take a dive into some family friendly animal lover movies that shaped most of us 90s kids (or at least traumatized the majority of us).
When you think of 90s animal movies at least one of these duos comes to mind -- BEETHOVEN or HOMEWARD BOUND. Now, we touched on some behind the scenes information when we talked to the director of the first BEETHOVEN earlier this year (be sure to check that episode out if you haven't). Join us as we circle back around to include some more personal feelings towards the first two Beethoven's. It's unclear to us how many are in the franchise but for this episode's sake, we are only discussing the first two.
If you ask our entire generation what was the one moment that caused immediate heartbreak and we are still working through with our therapist to this day -- it would be the one scene from HOMEWARD BOUND (unless you are a certain blogger). This one was a bit tougher for us to go into to try and keep our emotions in check even discussing the not as heart wrenching second movie too. While we won't give away too much, this is definitely an episode for any animal lover out there. Even if you are not a huge animal lover we hope you enjoy our viewpoints on these movies as well as the childhood memories that go along with them.
And you will definitely want to hear the end of this episode as we review a review we found on one of these movies. We have some words to say about this blog in particular. You don't want to miss it!

Based on the Alexandre Dumas novel of the same name, the timeline is 1625 France where a Young d'Artagnan (Chris O'Donnell) makes his way to Paris to follow in his late-father's footsteps and become a personal guard of the King- known as a Musketeer. Unbeknownst to him, Cardinal Richelieu (Tim Curry) has disbanded this "private army" and has a plot against the young King Louis. As with any good swashbuckling adventure there is always a rebellious trio that sees through the ruse and in this movie, it's the last three remaining Musketeers who refuse to give up their tunics - Athos (Kiefer Sutherland), Aramis (Charlie Sheen) and Porthos (Oliver Platt).
Do beware -- as with any of our movie episodes : SPOILERS ALERT !!! And this is your warning to not read any farther if you want to watch the movie first.
While Ashley made sure to be kind and not completely and utterly rip open Aprill's heart over her all-time favorite movie. We did discuss how, with the exception of just a couple of things, this movie held up a lot better than some of the others and that it wouldn't be completely burned at the stake for being overly sexist. While this movie does have a heavy male presence - one female stands out as being pretty kickass for the 17th Century. Countess D'Winter played by Rebecca De Mornay, was not only a bit of an idol for Aprill in the sense that she was someone who knew how to take care of herself, but Rebecca played her flawlessly as an antihero.
We discuss everything from the fact that Aprill is still watching this movie about once a month, how the comedic timing on this action movie is impeccable, thanks in large part to Oliver Platt if we do say so ourselves, the swashbuckling fashion choices, the overuse of "Hyah", and so much more!
While this movie isn't exactly historically accurate, the names do have some accuracy - like King Louis XIII did have a chief minister by the name of Cardinal Richelieu, it did aide in Aprill's interest in European History. So hey - at least it helped with school, sort of. ;)
There is some deep shit we discuss in this episode and a big part of what makes our youngest co-host who she is.
Now we could explain every little bit of our episode but where would the fun in that be? Make sure you listen all the way through and also check out our "Oh Shit" corresponding episode exclusively on our Patreon.

Wed, 21 Jun 2023 - 58min - 34 - 1992 Recap
It’s that time again where we gotta wrap up the year and move on to the next.
While there is still so much we could cover for 1992 our goal is to focus a lot of this year on 1993 content being it is the 30th year anniversary for those shows, movies, and songs.
1992 was such a blast for us with all of our special guests and podcast collabs! We had so much fun speaking with everyone and look forward to doing many more of those in the future.
We were extra goofy doing this episode so hope you enjoy our off topic rambles per usual.

Wed, 14 Jun 2023 - 31min - 33 - 3 Ninjas Trilogy w/Bygone Geek
It's Trilogy Time again! This week we are joined by Eric from Bygone Geek Podcast to discuss one of Aprill's favorite trilogies growing up -- 3 NINJAS! We are rounding off 1992 with what some may call a cult classic and others may call a waste of four hours of their lives. You be the judge on which category you fall into. Come along with us as we battle with American trained Ninjas, Japanese Ninjas and the ever popular Cowboys and Native Americans.
While each of the three movies we are discussing - 3 Ninjas, 3 Ninjas Kick Back, and 3 Ninjas Knuckle Up - all showcase classic 90s male geared themes, we also discuss how these films really do NOT hold up in today's day. and age These movies aren't only confusing in their timeline (Knuckle Up being filmed before Kick Back, but released after), the switching up of two of the main actors, but also are not very culturally appropriate with how they handled certain aspects.
While they will always hold a special place in Aprill's heart for the memories they bring back - we all can't help but agree that these would be massive bombs if released today. Certain themes in the movies could be applied today, however, it's hard to get over how overshadowed those were when up against extreme type-casting and all around not very good stories.
Let us know - did you ever watch these growing up? If so, who did you like most: Rocky, Colt, Tum-Tum or Grandpa?

Wed, 07 Jun 2023 - 1h 29min - 32 - FernGully: The Last Rainforest w/Everything 90's
One movie from 1992 that people either remember like it was yesterday or have no clue what the hell you are talking about is FernGully.
This week Aprill and Ashley are joined by Shaleena from Everything 90s Podcast to discuss this elusive movie. While only one of us remembers ever watching it as a child, we see how well this holds up in today's society.
We discuss the creepy aspects of Tim Curry's character, the tortured soul of poor Batty, and the love story that developed between Zak and Crysta.
We also dig deeper into the beef between Disney and Robin Williams and how this film was possibly where it all started from.
Come along for this environmental ride with us as we are not holding back our thoughts on this movie.

Wed, 31 May 2023 - 40min - 31 - We Explain It All with Mitchell Kriegman
This week Aprill and Ashley are joined by renowned creator, writer and author - MITCHELL KRIEGMAN. Not only do some of his credits include working on the likes of SNL, Ren & Stimpy, Rugrats to name a few; but he also created Nickelodeon's FIRST SITCOM : Clarissa Explains It All and Disney's Bear In The Big Blue House, and It's A Big Big World.
We get the scoop on his process for creating a new project along with some of the things he has cooking. Are we going to get that Clarissa Reboot??? He is still very "mum" on it but he did provide us with an INCREDIBLE book: Things I Can't Explain (the audible version has a familiar voice reading the story, which explains why Aprill was impressed it sounded so much like Melissa). Not only that but his other book, Being Audrey Hepburn has eyes set for the big screen!
We also got to speak with him about his creation of Shadowmation - which is way cool! Plus check our Instagram videos for some exclusive clips Mitchell provided us himself!
Also, this episode we stray a little from talking just 90s and got insight from a writer regarding the current writers strike.
Hell, we could write our own book about all the great things in this episode.
We'll quote the amazing and always in our corner, Bear : Don't ask me why, it's a bear thing

Wed, 24 May 2023 - 1h 30min - 30 - TGIF Take One
There was nothing like gathering around the T.V. with your family on a Friday night for, you guessed it - TGIF!
This week we both open our eyes to a "new to our eyes" show from the early days of TGIF. For Aprill, that meant checking out the iconic mixed family show Step by Step, while Ashley experienced the groundbreaking show Family Matters. And of course we couldn't forget 'NOT THE MAMA' with Dinosaurs. We even were able to circle back around to a nod at our first guest Brian Levant with a certain episode of Step by Step.
Join us as we talk comedy and those hard-hitting, gut-wrenching episodes that one specific co-host can't seem to get enough of -- guess someone is just a sucker for punishment. In the great words of Steve Urkel - DID I DO THAT???

Wed, 17 May 2023 - 1h 35min - 29 - Just Give Me a Good Song Title with Howard Greenhalgh
This week we speak with iconic music video director and editor : HOWARD GREENHALGH.
With over 100 music videos under his belt we discuss some of his most iconic work to us 90s kids, including getting some radical insight on the ideas for those.
Not sure of what his work includes?... If you grew up in the 90s watching MTV or VH1 videos you absolutely know his work. From SNAP!: RHYTHM IS A DANCER (Ashley's pick for top '92 song) to SOUNDGARDEN: BLACK HOLE SUN and SPICE GIRLS: GOODBYE, Howard talks to us about his time working on those videos and more because that is only just a TIP of the iceberg of his work.

Wed, 10 May 2023 - 1h 05min - 28 - A Part of Your World
The seaweed is always greener, in somebody else's pond....This week's episode, we discuss the Disney animated classic, The Little Mermaid from 1989.
We know it's not TECHNICALLY a "90s" movie, but it was close enough that we'll let it slide. With the new live-action version coming out in just a few short weeks we thought it'd be fun to take a trip Under the Sea and revisit this one with adult eyes.
How much of this classic movie do we remember and what are our favorite and not so favorite moments from it? We both grew up on this movie and seemed to have enjoyed it as kids, but does it still give us those same feelings now?
From the soundtrack, to the characters, to the somewhat odd plot devices we are discussing it all.
We have some theories as well about why some of the animals could talk and others not....plus we are ranking some of the Disney princes and you don't want to miss out on that!

Wed, 26 Apr 2023 - 54min - 26 - 90s Childhood Crushes
This week we focus on our CRUSHES! We dig into both male and female crushes we had while growing up and whether we still share those feelings now. From Johnny Depp to Kirsten Dunst to boy bands and everything in between, we discuss a wide range of those who not only we crushed on but also influenced us and we became obsessed with everything they did. We are talking pre-internet too people so we couldn't just search everything they did on IMdB, we had to find other ways to discover what our crushes were up to.
Anyone else ever look back at their crushes and go "what was I thinking"? Also, who remembers covering their rooms floor to ceiling with posters of their crushes? Because one of us sure did have a hard time deciding which side of the poster to display.
Tell us your NUMBER ONE crush from the 90s!

This week Ashley and Aprill jump on their magic carpet and travel to the land of Agrabah to discuss Disney's 1992 animated movie ALADDIN. We break down everything from the music, to the different characters and use of voice actors to the surprising reveal that Disney left out a certain part of the human body when drawing Aladdin and now we can't unsee it.
Plus, we also get into the usual Disney Drama that came into play with one of the main cast members.
Who was obsessed with Jasmine more growing up, Aprill or Ashley? We talk about some of the interesting toys we had as kids and how we compare Aladdin to Beauty and the Beast.
Listen along and let us know your thoughts on Disney's 1992 animated release of ALADDIN.

Will & Grace or Sex and the City??? This episode we have Amy from Pop Culture Retrospective with us discussing some of her favorite episodes from these two shows. This is part one of a two part series.
Were you old enough to watch either of these shows when they were in their "hey day"? Or have you binged them on streaming services not having to worry about catching the newest episode at the exact time it airs. Some of us weren't allowed to watch certain shows regardless of not having the specific channel it aired on (Sex and the City, the youngest co-host is referring to you).

Wed, 05 Apr 2023 - 49min - 23 - Sitcom Theme Songs w/Nostalgia Junkies
This week we welcome our FIRST podcast collaboration with Alex from Nostalgia Junkies Podcast!
We sit down with Alex and discuss what early 90s Sitcom Theme Songs we enjoyed the most growing up. We all remember the feeling we'd get after hearing just 2 beats of the song and instantly be running to the couch to tune in. From Full House to Step by Step to Golden Girls we are talking about all those classic early 90s sitcom theme songs that hit just right.
I think we all miss the nostalgia that these theme songs bring us and we may get off topic a few times but hey, that's the fun of our podcast, you jump on the train at one station - you never know where you might end up.
We hope you enjoy this collaboration as much as we did and be sure to let us know what your favorite theme song from the 90s is.

Wed, 29 Mar 2023 - 44min - 22 - Honey I Shrunk the Kids (Trilogy)
Here we go on our first trilogy discussion in one sitting. This time around we talk about a trilogy that might have made some of us afraid we were going to get stuck fighting for our lives in the yard against a lawn mower that didn't know we were there --- or was that just Aprill?
This week, Aprill and Ashley discuss the classic trilogy of HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS, HONEY I BLEW UP THE KID, and HONEY WE SHRUNK OURSELVES.
Anyone else feel like the title of the second movie was grossly false advertising since the kid did not go "BOOM"? (Insert another Disney lawsuit here)
We discuss the huge success of the first movie and if we felt like the sequels and tv series lived up to it. Also who else is excited about the potential of a new movie coming out??
Follow along with us as we talk about our favorite moments, what we just don't think made sense, the movie experiences that were offered to us at Disney, and about the possible theories of if the dad were to stumble into Ant Man's world what that would entail.
And of course we ask the most important question of all .... Which would we prefer to have in our everyday lives - the shrink machine or enlarge machine?

Wed, 22 Mar 2023 - 1h 09min - 21 - Jump into Music of 1992
We are back! Welcome to Season 2 and Year 1992! It's been a year so far and a lot more to come. Aprill and Ashley have many plans of getting together this year for various reasons, a lot of them being for the different cons happening. Until those happen, we are taking you into the music of 1992. What did we think about the selections from this year? Are they getting better? Worse? How easy is it for us to pick a top 5 for the year?
Surprisingly enough there was a lot of similarity in our picks with one host taking a lot of the others hosts songs. And also, Ashley unlocked a memory with one song that she remembers from school oddly enough.
And stay tuned, because this season we are ending each episode with a game. We will be asking each other this or that and trivia questions. Mostly pertaining to the topic at hand, but sometimes random ones to spice things up. You won't want to miss it!

Wed, 15 Mar 2023 - 39min - 20 - 1991 Recap
On our Season One Finale, Ashley and Aprill discuss what we enjoyed most about our walk back through 1991. Do either of us feel like there was anything we missed? And how do we feel about the year 1991 overall?
While we wrap up our time in 1991 we also look forward to what 90s Noise has in store for the future. We discuss future topic ideas and how we want you to get involved in that! So listen in to find out the details.
We also wanted to touch on the Super Bowl briefly. Since we had to scrap our episode on it due to getting sick we wanted to highlight our memories from the 90s with it.
We are shouting out a few of our listeners this episode as well. If you want to be featured or mentioned in a later episode be sure to leave us a review and message us on Instagram.
Lastly, we will be taking a break for a few weeks, so now is the time to catch up on any missed episodes and then stay tuned for more from 90s Noise very soon.

Wed, 22 Feb 2023 - 27min - 19 - Turtle Power
As we finish our trek through Aprill's birth-year, we come around to the movie that was #1 in theaters on the day our younger co-host was born -- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II : Secret of the Ooze.
While Aprill was on her unknown number of viewings, this was Ashley's first round with this movie. Was she kind or brutal with her review? You be the judge.
We also touch a little bit more on the Turtle franchise itself to try and get a better understanding of the direction they were trying to take the Turtles. From the action figures, to the tv series, to the we don't talk about TMNT movie, and even the Michael Bay movies.
We also have some fun discussing different theories about the origin of the ooze and the possibility of including female turtles to the franchise.
Plus who could forget about the Ninja Rap? Go ninja, go ninja, go.... listen to this episode and let us know what you think of the second installment in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle franchise.

Wed, 15 Feb 2023 - 58min - 18 - Full House vs Home Improvement
Family sitcoms were huge in the 90s. There was nothing like gathering around the TV with your family in the evening to see what type of shenanigans your favorite sitcom family would get into this week.
Two very specific shows that stuck out to Ashley and Aprill growing up were Full House and Home Improvement. Whether you enjoyed watching the antics of the Tanner's or the hijinks of the Taylor's, both shows were loved by millions and are still being watched today.
We talk about our favorite moments from each show, our favorite catchphrases, the most memorable episodes to us, and which characters we relate to most.
Which one did your family tune into the most?
NOTE there is a disclaimer at the beginning of the episode, as there has been a bit of controversies with some of the stars from both shows in the past and as of late, we want to state that we are purely discussing these shows and what they meant to us as kids growing up and not focusing on the current status of what the media puts on blast in regards to any celebrity from either of these shows.

Wed, 01 Feb 2023 - 1h 22min - 17 - 90s Recess
Playing outside was a staple of growing up in the 90s, whether it was after school, on the weekends, or during school breaks. Remember when curfew was when the street lights came on? Ashley and Aprill discuss the numerous different outside activities we participated in as kids. We also reminisce talking about the groups we joined such as Brownies, Girl Scouts, Awanas and 4-H. Times were much simpler back then when all you had to worry about was how many girl scout cookies you could sell or a scraped knee from falling out of a tree. Speaking of girl scout cookies -- anyone know where we can find some in central Florida? ;) With one of us growing up in Florida with a sister and the other in Kansas with 2 brothers you can bet there are a lot of differences in our childhoods and the activities we ended up playing.
Be sure to let us know what activities you played outside as a kid or if you joined any groups like Ashley and Aprill did.

Wed, 18 Jan 2023 - 1h 27min - 15 - He Can't See Without His Glasses!
Who do you think liked My Girl more, Ashley or Aprill? My Girl was a big success when it came out in 1991, with the likes of Macaulay Culkin, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Dan Aykroyd. We are also introduced to the talented Anna Chlumsky who plays, Vada.
Bees, boys, bullying, crushes, periods, love, death. This movie touches on a lot of heavy hitting topics that as a kid you may or may not have understood. There is also a very interesting background on how the rating and marketing of this movie came to be that sort of changes our viewpoint on things.
We discuss if we had any teacher crushes in grade school, our first kiss, the thought of living in a funeral home, and our first experiences with death. Also, mood rings anyone?
So, what made this movie so special back then and what makes people want to keep watching it today? We share our thoughts on this and much more!

Wed, 04 Jan 2023 - 51min - 13 - Legends of Slime
This week we take some time to reminisce on the game shows we wish we could have been a part of growing up. Nickelodeon was a huge part of growing up in the 90s and one of the biggest draws were the kids game shows. We take a look back at Wild and Crazy Kids, Legends of the Hidden Temple, GUTS, and Double Dare to name just a few. Most of which included the ever popular Nickelodeon staple -- SLIME. Did you ever want to get slimed when you were a kid?
We also discuss our own visits to Universal Studios during their Nickelodeon Studios days and the experience we had touring the soundstage. Hear our thoughts on the hosts, why we think these game shows need to be revived, and our discovery that one of the members of the Backstreet Boys actually participated on one of these shows.
Let us know which Nick game show YOU wanted to be on!

Sat, 10 Dec 2022 - 10min - 8 - Baby Boomer's Baby Toons
There seemed to be an influx in cartoons our parents grew up with trying to have a revival in the late 80s to early 90s but with a different spin on it... the characters were baby/teenage versions of the characters our parents knew and loved. And therefore we get what Aprill calls, the Baby Boomer's Baby Toons. This week we discuss a few notable ones that we remember and how they compared to the originals they were trying to emulate. Did you have a favorite Baby Toon you watched growing up? Be sure to let us know!

Wed, 07 Dec 2022 - 57min - 7 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
Some people are named after family members, some from biblical figures, but our very own co-host got her name a very unprecedented way. Everyone has a story to tell, be sure to listen as our younger co-host tells her story about her forever connection to the classic movie from 1990 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. So grab your Turtle action figures (we know you still have them), and some pizza, (but no anchovies!) and follow along as we talk about an independent movie that took 1990 by storm and paved the way for not only a sequel but what ended up being a trilogy!

Come along with us as we rewatch two classic animated movies from 1990. We share our favorite moments from the movies, the characters that had the best redeeming qualities, and also go into some of those cringe moments of the films that didn't work. Which one did we like more? You'll have to listen in to find out which one won this round.
