It's an amazing opportunity to enjoy some performances from wonderful artists and at the same time get to meet people from all over the world who are based in Dublin.
I loved the idea of this festival and decided to interview some of the artists performing on the day. This episode is a conversation with Santierra & Los Protones Errantes. Incredible musicians who perform in their native tongue and can bring any room to life. We chatted about their musical journey in Dublin and how they ended up performing together.
The revenue from the ticket sales will be equally split: half to support the arts, therefore for artists performing, and half to support EMERGENCY NGO.
I hope you enjoy this episode and hopefully see you at Smock Alley Theatre this Saturday!

Thu, 11 Jul 2024 - 43min - 178 - Arn from Donegal - Making a career out of music in Ireland.
This is a great chat that I had with Arn about music, his life story so far and about the gig he has in Whelan’s Thursday the 20th of June. He’ll have support from David San Clair and Daragh Daly and look listen lads, these fellas have got some serious talent. We’ve had David play one of our shows and he blew us all away. I’ve heard phenomenal things about Daragh and just have a listen to some of the stuff Arn has put out on Spotify and you’ll know that this is a massively undervalued gig… Get down there if you can, I’ll leave a link to Arn’s Spotify and the gig tickets in the description of this episode
Before we jump in, to our regular listeners I wanted to apologise for the irregularity of the episodes recently…It’s been a mad year so far and as much as I’d love to spend every waking minute working on this podcast, it just hasn’t been possible recently. Thanks so much to everyone who has written in…I will respond to all of you soon… and we will get back to our previous rhythm again soon. Let’s call this downtime Mark’s little hiatus…

Fri, 05 Apr 2024 - 40min - 172 - Taylor Byrne from Dublin - A conversation with one of Ireland's next great musicians.
My guest today, Taylor Byrne, is someone who I came to know last year through our live events in Dublin. He’s an incredible young musician, and every time I see him play or listen to his music, I wonder why he’s not yet playing stadiums around the world. One day soon Taylor, and please, don’t forget us when you get there!
Our conversation goes into his journey into music, his upcoming EP which he will begin releasing on April 5th and a bit of life in general. You can check out his socials and his music through the links in the description of this episode.
If you are enjoying the podcast, it would mean so much to me if you could share it with a friend, or leave a rating or review. Those small acts are the lifeblood of this show and without them, unfortunately we will just get lost amongst the noise. For those of you who have already done so, I cannot thank you enough.

Tue, 12 Mar 2024 - 39min - 168 - Harry Hudson Taylor - Solo career, Lady Bird Lad and ups and downs of being a modern-day musician
In this episode of the podcast we were joined, for the second time by Harry Hudson Taylor. Harry came to fame in his teens with the band Hudson Taylor but is now embarking on his solo career under the guise of Lady Bird Lad.
I found this chat really inspiring. Harry is a guy who doesn’t give up, who knows what it takes to make something of themselves and is incredibly honest about the ups and downs that come with that type of journey. Whether you’re moving to a new country for a fresh start, trying to start a little business or side hustle, or looking to follow a passion, I recommend having a listen to what Harry has to say. There’s wisdom there and I for one was able to take quite a lot from this.

Mon, 22 Jan 2024 - 33min - 151 - Euan from Australia and Bill from the US - Live Recording
This episode of the podcast is from one of our live events that we held last summer. It’s taken me so long to get around to posting it but having recently listened back to it I absolutely love the fact that we can post it for you guys now. The live shows have become really popular and for me they are something I’m incredibly grateful for. The ethos of this podcast is to bring people together, have a good time, meet some new friends and the live shows have been a perfect way to for us to realise that goal.
Thanks so much to Euan from Australia and Bill from the States who we chatted to in this podcast. At the end of the conversation you’ll hear some of Euan’s incredible performance which we got to enjoy on the night. I’ll include links to the socials of both artists in the description of this episode.
If you’re looking to come to one of our shows, to meet us, meet some others and just enjoy a night in Dublin, then you can check out the A Life in Dublin website to see when our next upcoming show will be. Link in the description of this episode.

Mon, 08 Jan 2024 - 21min - 146 - Mick McDermott interviews Mark - Realities of living an expat life
Today’s episode is a little bit different in the sense that the tables were turned and it is an interview I did on the Mick McDermott podcast. Mick, who is a brilliant podcast host, is currently travelling around Ireland in his camper van, which he also lives in! He was kind enough to invite me into his humble abode for a chat and go into detail on my experiences living abroad and how that experience changed my life. I must admit, I’m not sure if it was the coffee I had before hand, or the amazing interview skills of Mick, but I spoke an awful amount of shite towards the end of this conversation, but it was all in good fun and thankfully Mick didn’t throw me out of the van!

Mon, 25 Dec 2023 - 12min - 143 - Mollie from Dublin - The beauty of embracing Irish culture in a multicultural Ireland
Over the course of the last year, I’ve had the pleasure of talking to so many different people from all over the world. They’ve made me laugh and even sometimes cry but ultimately our guests have inspired me and taught me a much more beautiful perspective on life.
Next year in 2024, I hope to continue the A Life in Dublin project, but to push it a little bit more so that it is benefitting as many people as possible. Our events that we run on a monthly basis have been incredible and I think the presence of a safe social space in Dublin, for people from all backgrounds is more important than ever. And I want this to be done in an Irish way. A way in which we can celebrate being in Ireland whilst at the same time celebrating the multicultural nature of Dublin as well. I’m excited about what is to come… and I hope you can stick with me on this journey to see where it ends up!
In celebration of that Irishness, today I’m going to share an exert from one of our most popular episodes of the year. Mollie teaches Irish to thousands of people around the world through her online courses and she has an amazing perspective on the beauty of the Irish language and it’s place in modern Irish culture.

Mon, 11 Dec 2023 - 33min - 139 - Ross from Dublin - Irish culture and history, music scene in Ireland, retro revival and a lot more
Around about a year ago I found out that Arthur Guinness, famed creator of the black stuff, got married in the former church, current restaurant and bar, located on Mary Street in Dublin 1. Despite my many visits to this bar, I had no idea of this little piece of history which happened right in Dublin City Centre. I learned this from today’s guest Ross and I’ve subsequently learned all sorts of random and interesting facts about Irish culture and Irish history from his amazing page on Instagram.
In this chat we learn a little more about the man behind the content and his journey which led him to take such an interest in history and his passion for sharing it with us all. If you haven’t heard of Ross before, check out his Instagram page, which you’ll find in the description of this episode and watch out for his new upcoming podcast.

Mon, 20 Nov 2023 - 25min - 133 - Buddy from Sri Lanka - Following a dream career to Dublin, how he became a magician, the value of magic.
In this episode I chat to Buddy who hails all the way from Sri Lanka. We talk about his life in Sri Lanka and how a dream career took him to Dublin. But I have to say, what I loved most about his story is about how he became a magician. Have a listen to how he found his mentor and how that mentor taught him all that he needed to know, it’s really inspiring! He finishes the chat by performing a trick which blew my mind, hopefully you’ll be able to appreciate it via this podcast.

Mon, 13 Nov 2023 - 24min - 131 - Ahmed from Egypt - Situation in Palestine, modern day vs. ancient Egypt, the Arab Spring and how an Irishman started the Egyptian Revolution.
This conversation is a recording of myself and Ahmed who is from Egypt. This is a longer than usual episode but we go in-depth into a number of different topics like some of the differences between modern day and ancient Egypt, the story of how he was shot during the Arab Spring, how an Irishman could be held responsible for starting the Egyptian revolution back in 1919 and we also discuss the horrific scenes currently taking place in Gaza. This episode takes a while to get going but trust me there is a lot in it, lots of laughs but some tears too.

Have you ever felt that chill crawl up your spine, that uncanny sense you're not alone, even in an empty room? I'm not just talking about bumps in the night or shadows that don't quite make sense. I'm talking about stories so palpable, so raw, that they invite us to question the boundaries between the seen and the unseen, the known and the unknown.
Let me introduce you to Peter Dunne, the writer and director of the highly rated Petrified Podcast. In this chat, we talk about the global success of the Petrified podcast, how Peter found his passion of invoking fear in others and what’s more, how he made a career out of it.
In the description of this episode you will find a link to the Petrified Podcast and also a link to their live show which will be on the 25th of October in The Laughter Lounge. Something a bit different and a plan I’d 100% recommend for the lead up to Halloween!

Mon, 03 Jul 2023 - 32min - 91 - Nghia from Vietnam - The Life of Ho Chi Minh
Today’s episode is a conversation about a man whose impact on the world will be spoken about for generations to come. Let’s start with the image of a man who basically vanished off the face of the earth for a number of years before he finally reappeared walking across the border from China to Vietnam with no possessions and essentially no identity. This man went on to garner a huge following and fought a revolution in his Country that had repercussions internationally. The man I speak of Ho Chi Minh.
My friend Nghia, a Vietnamese stand-up comic, spoke to me about the life and character of the person who had a number of different names in his life but became known as Ho Chi Minh, or the enlightened one. We avoid talking too deeply about politics in this conversation as I was more interested in learning about the type of person who could achieve such things in his life.
I really hope you enjoy listening to this conversation as much I enjoyed having it. If you’d like to help support this podcast, you could share it with a friend or leave a rating or review. By doing so, we get to reach new listeners and continue to grow this really warm and supportive community. Thank you so much to everyone who has already done so, your support really means the world…

Tue, 27 Jun 2023 - 3min - 89 - Etienne from France/Ireland - Walking around France and Ireland with no money, no phone and no shoes
9 years ago Etienne began a journey that would be quite unlike any other in his life and I imagine quite unlike any that you or I have experienced. He decided to walk from the south to the north of France and also around Ireland with no money, no phone, no shoes and no map.
This is a conversation about why and how he did that and what he learned along the way. I think it’s quite a fascinating story and I hope you enjoy listening to it.
