Bloody Murder - A True Crime Podcast
Nominated for 4 Australian Podcast Awards, including 2019 Best Independent True Crime. Barney Black and Tara Sariban discuss the dark details of lesser know true crime stories from Australia and around the world. As avid listeners of true crime podcasts they aim to add to the conversation by talking about murders that haven't been done to death on other shows. Their humour comes from some rather unusual places but never at the expense of the victims or their families.

- 159 - 186. Serial Killer Rattlesnake James, with Cambo from True Crime Island
In this special crossover episode of Bloody Murder and True Crime Island, we discuss Serial Killer Rattlesnake James.
Half assed conman and serial killer Robert S. James gained infamy when he tried to murder his fifth wife Mary by putting her leg into a box of rattlesnakes. When she failed to die in a timely enough fashion, he drowned her in the bathtub and tried to cash in her life insurance policy.
Insurance investigators discovered his third wife Winona had also died by drowning shortly after marrying him and taking out a large insurance policy. His nephew had met an untimely end in a suspicious fashion too and the less said about what he got up to with his 18 year old niece, the better.
Aussie As: Two Western Australian mates get swept out to sea while drifting on an inflatable mattress on the ocean and drinking an esky full of beer.

In honour of International Women's Day - March 8th 2021.
Mayor of Bell Gardens California, Daniel Crespo Snr abused his wife Lyvette for 28 years. He also threatened those he worked with in the council and had a secretary fired for not sleeping with him.
On September 30th, 2014, while beating Lyvette, he turned his violent rage toward their teenage son when he tried to intervene. Crespo punched his son in the face so hard he fell down the stairs. What happened next was an unusual ending to a horribly common situation.

Steve Banerjee had gone from rags to riches by creating the male erotic dance troupe the Chippendales, but he didn’t do it alone. Emmy award winning television producer and Broadway choreographer, Nick De Noia gave the Chippendales routines the glitz and glamor that made them world famous. But Steve, not adverse to acts of crime to retain his power, had a falling out with De Noia and called in his right hand man and crappy doer of cheeky arsons, Ray Colon to organise a hit on the unsuspecting Nick De Noia.

The Children of Thunder were a cult of former Mormons who committed five murders in the year 2000. They believed these brutal killings would bring harmony to the world and begin Christ's millennial reign of peace.
Their leader, Taylor Helzer, convinced his followers he had the gift of revelation and truly spoke the word of God. And according to him, God was super into drugs, sex trafficking, kidnapping, extortion, murder and dismemberment.

We can't use his real name, as the courts have suppressed his details and sealed his records, so we're going to call him Sam West. From an early age, Sam's life seemed to be destined to be one of poverty, criminality and misery. But could Sam make his own fate and escape where he had come from to a better future?

Mon, 27 Apr 2020 - 52min - 129 - 149. The Cape Cod Serial Killer - Part One
Patricia Walsh and Mary Anne Wysocki went to Cape Cod for a weekend away on January 24th, 1969. When they didn’t return home afterwards, their friends and family were very concerned. The police initially thought the girls had just taken off travelling on an adventure, as many young people were doing at the time.
The police had also failed to investigate the disappearance of other young women in the area for this reason. They didn’t realise until it was too late that they had a serial killer on their hands. All the murdered young women were last seen with 24-year-old carpenter, ladies man and massive drug pig Tony Costa.

Mon, 20 Apr 2020 - 52min - 128 - 148. Gentleman Brady and Vile Jeffries
Matthew Brady and Mark Jeffries were bushranger highwaymen in the wilds of Tasmania in the 1820s. Although they were both escaped convicts on the lam and being hunted by constabulary, they had little in common.
Matthew Brady was considered chivalrous, a man who used violence only in self-defence. Dubbed the Gentleman Bushranger, due his fine manners and his way with the ladies. Brady was charming and a little bit mischievous with a cheeky sparkle in his eye.
Mark Jeffries was not like Matthew Brady.
Beyond his dead eyed stare was an empty perverted soul who just wanted to watch the world burn, possibly while he had nonconsensual sex with it. Jeffries was a sadist, a ruthless killer, a sexual predator, a baby executioner and cannibal.
Both were being hunted by the notorious bounty hunter Batman… John Batman.

This is Part 2 of Blood Oath: The Van Krevel Evil… if you haven’t listened to part one and you want anything we’re saying to make sense, go back and listen to Episode 146 before listening to this one.
One week before his trial for the murders of David O'Hearn and Frank Arkell, Mark Van Krevel levels accusations of sexual abuse against his father Jack for the first time. It's seen by many as a cynical ploy to reduce his culpability in the murders.
Although Jack says he was “hard on Mark” he denies the claims of sexual abuse. In a disturbed emotional state and believing whatever Mark's sister and his sort of girlfriend Belinda tells him, Mark's best friend Keith Schreiber spirals out of control and the consequences are deadly.

In June 1998, the residents of the seaside city of Wollongong were shocked and horrified by the decapitation murder of local shop keeper, David O'Hearn. Two weeks later, another brutal mutilation murder was committed, that of former lord mayor and alleged paedophile, Frank Arkell. Rumours of Satanism, the occult, gay hate murder squads and paedophile rings swirled about the city as Police struggled to find any real leads. But despite their best efforts, three murders would be committed before those responsible were brought to justice.

Previously a patron episode, now unlocked!
Teenagers Rachel Wade and Sarah Ludemann hated each others guts. They were both in what they thought was a relationship with a guy named Josh Camacho, who encouraged them to fight over over him. Their feud started on social media then escalated to threatening phone calls and culminated in a violent confrontation that would leave one of them dead.
A dispute over a fence line between neighbours, Kevin Skeyhill and Darren Lorke, escalated when punches were thrown. Alcohol and some covert surveillance exasperated the situation to the point where a fake gun and knife led to murder.

Sun, 22 Mar 2020 - 1h 02min - 124 - Bloody Murder Special Announcement March 2020
Well Shit in bucket, what’s going on in the world?
Hi Everyone, this is Barney Black from Bloody Murder.
Unfortunately there will not be a regular new episode this week.
My co-host Tara Sariban has been sick in bed for a week with a nasty cold and has lost her voice...or rather I wish she had. She sounds like a phlegm filled croaking witch from the bottom of a very dark bog. Nobody needs to hear something that scary, especially in these trying times.
Don’t worry, it’s just a crappy cold.
We’ve actually been working hard all week writing and researching.
Our next episode will be a corking two parter!
In the meantime time, just to keep some bloody murder in your ears while you self isolate,
We have unlocked a previous patron only episode for today.
Episode 135 The Boy is Mine and When Darren met Kevin

The Unnoticed Murders of the Wycherley's and The Black Prince of Lygon Street...
In October 2012, a woman called the Nottinghamshire police in England, to report that William and Patricia Wycherley had been killed 14 years earlier and she knew where their bodies were buried. If she was telling the truth, why had nobody reported the couple missing? And what did their daughter Susan Edwards and her husband Christoper have to do with it?
Alphonse “The Black Prince of Lygon Street” Gangitano has been described as a loving husband and father and as a vile gangster and murderer. From the 1970's right through to the late 90's, the Black Prince ruled over Carlton, brutalising it's residents with extortion, drug dealing and murder. Mate of Christopher “Mr Rent-to-Kill” Flannery, enemy of Mark “Chopper” Read, he was leader of the feared Carlton Crew which included members Graham “The Munster” Kinniburgh, Mario Condello, Mick Gatto and Jason and Mark Moran. Seemingly unstoppable, the prince went too far and couldn't predict his best friend would turn on him.

The Objectifier and The Short Life of Edward Jockey Smith...
Sean Vincent Gillis was a serial killer who lived with his unsuspecting long-term girlfriend in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He used cable ties to incapacitate his victims, who ranged in age, race and socio-economic stature. This flew in the face of FBI profiling theories at the time, and allowed him to elude capture for over a decade.
Edward Jockey Smith was short of temper and of stature. A notorious tight ass, Eddie enjoyed a bit of shoplifting armed robbery, drug dealing and murder. His poor impulse control meant Eddie could turn a minor incident into a major spectacle. He was respected by the criminal fraternity, but his habit of waving a gun in peoples faces and shooting at police made him public enemy number one.

So she hired an amatuer hitman who aspired to be a vigilant like his hero "the Crow."
Fitness fanatic Russell 'The Fox' Cox loved yoga and jogging. He also dug guns and robbing banks. What he didn't love was spending time in prison. After a daring escape from the unescapable Katingal in 1977, Russell spent nearly 11 years on the run, robbing banks up and down the eastern seaboard and even committing murder.

Sex Lies and Parachutes and Sad Ray Denning...
Belgium native Els Van Doren was an experienced skydiver with over 2,300 jumps behind her. In November 2006, Els went skydiving with other members of the the Zwartberg Parachute Club, including her friends Els Clottemans and Marcel Somers. After leaping from a Cessna at 13,000 feet, Els was horrified to find that her parachute ropes had been cut and her parachutes wouldn't open. Els plummeted to the ground, dying on impact. But who would want the mother of two dead and why?
Ray Denning grew up as a damaged little boy. He was passed around relatives and spent time in and out of juvvy jail. He graduated from this criminal university to become a skilled serial armed robber, crafty prison escapologist and murderer. But in a strange turnaround he became a Prison rights activist and media darling. When he died in mysterious circumstances in 1993, Ray Denning had spent more than half his life in jail.

Killer Con Woman Brenda Nicholas and Melbourne Mick Sayers...
Brenda Nicholas was a con artist and thief who preyed on elderly people. She often pretended to be a tarot reader named “Lady Monica,” who gained their trust before taking them for all they were worth. In 2011, she and her ragtag gang of petty criminals stabbed 70-year-old Navy veteran and two-time Purple Heart recipient Patrick Fleming to death, just so they could steal his valuable coin collection.
Lovable rogue Michael "Melbourne Mick" Sayers was always looking for the next sure thing. This chronic punter had a life-long pathological addiction to gambling. Mick had it so bad, he would bet on anything and do whatever it took to feed his habit, including race fixing, armed robbery, drug dealing and murder. Drinking buddies with the likes of Neddy Smith and Graham Henry, after the fixing of Fine Cotton, in the end all he had to wager was the last thing of value he had... his life.

Hero Husband Mark Winger and Nasty Nikolai Radev...
In August 1995, Mark Winger shot a man named Roger Harrington twice in the head. Mark said he'd heard a noise and come upstairs to find Roger beating his beloved wife Donnah Winger to death with a hammer. After Roger's death, investigators soon determined that Mark had acted in self-defence. Sounds like a pretty straight forward case, doesn't it?
Bulgarian born Nikolai “The Russian” Radev was a nasty piece of work whose hobbies included extortion, blackmail and armed robbery. He had a well deserved reputation for viciousness and brutality in the Melbourne Underbelly. Fortunately for the rest of the world this awful awful rapist, murderer and career criminal would die the way he lived.

Contract Killer Mad Dog Joe Sullivan - Part 2...
In part two of this two-part special, new father, 38-year-old Mad Dog Joe Sullivan soaks up some culture while honeymooning with his wife Gail. He then gets right back into knocking mobsters for "Fat Tony" Salerno and the Genovese family, including Mickey Spillane's top enforcer Tommy “The Greek” Kapatos, and Antonio Caponegro aka “Tony Bananas”. There was also a botched hit on Carmine “Lilo” Galante and a near miss on “Ol' Blue Eyes” himself, Frank Sinatra.
In the summer of 1978, Joe met with actor's Jon Voight and Robert Di Niro and directors Hal Ashby and John Hancock to discuss potential film projects.
After teaming up with some friends from the disco scene, Joe started sticking up payrolls and jewellery stores for a bit of a lark and some extra cash but ended up committing several murders of accomplices in bungled burglaries, before his last hit on “Johnny Flowers” Fiorino caused his dramatic capture.

Contract Killer Mad Dog Joe Sullivan - Part 1...
Contract killer “Mad Dog” Joe Sullivan started out life as a good Irish Catholic boy in a squarehead family in Queens. In part one of this two-part special, we cover how the sudden death of Joe's detective father, and the horrendous effect it had on his family broke something inside young Joe. And when Joe broke, he broke bad. Mad Dog Sullivan spent most of his teen years in Juvenile Detention for petty crimes, before graduating to armed robberies and murder. After escaping from Attica maximum security prison, in 1971, Joe hit up made man John Sullivan for a job. Through John, Joe became a contract killer for “Fat Tony” Salerno and the notorious Genovese crime family. He is said to have disposed of Jimmy Hoffa's body for them and murdered two of Mickey Spillane's top gunman Tommy Devaney and "Eddie The Butcher" Cummiskey.Under the tutelage of his murder mentor, George Barone, over the next several years Joe would go on to murder an estimated 30 people.

All That Remains Of Li Ping Cao and Stan 'The Man' Smith...
When 42-year-old Cairns resident Li Ping Cao disappeared on November 30th, 2011, her 70-year-old husband Klaus Andres did an appalling job of feigning concern for her whereabouts. He didn't report her missing and used a press conference to try to convince the public she was a terrible, rebellious woman who had deserted her poor long-suffering husband. While he was out there spreading lies about her, Li Ping's body was dissolving in a bin full of acid.
Stan “The Man” Smith was one of the most legendary criminal enforcers in the Sydney underworld from the late 1950’s through to the 1980’s. He was closely associated with big crime kingpins like Lenny McPherson and George Freeman. Although he was one of the most prolific hit men in Australian history, being responsible for at least 25 shootings and 15 murders, he only spent 3 months in prison.

The Assassination of Colin Winchester...
Colin Winchester was the Assistant Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police and the commander of the ACT police force. When he was assassinated in his driveway in the summer of 1989, the nation was sent into a state of shock. These feelings were taken over by anger as the investigation dragged on, until finally five years after the murder a lone crazed gunman named David Eastman was arrested. Did the police have the right man or was this killing, as speculated by the media, a professional hit by the the all powerful Calabrian mafia?

In 2009, motivational speaker and self-help author Jeffrey Locker was stabbed to death in his car in East Harlem. What initially seemed to be a robbery gone wrong turned out to be something far more complicated.
Dino “The Sunshine Boy” Dibra was a violent thug by the age of 12, jailed by 19, a ruthless multiple killer at 23 and murdered by 25. He was described by his family as having a heart of gold. But others saw him as murderer, standover man, drug dealer and kidnapper who wreaked havoc with the likes of Melbourne underworld figures Andrew "Benji" Venimen, Mark Mallia, Paul Kallipolitis and Carl Williams.

Sexy Sadistic Slayer Sheila LaBarre with Kate Wallinga from Ignorance Was Bliss...
Diagnosed as acutely delusional and sadistic, rabbit-loving Sheila LaBarre murdered at least two of her boyfriends, Michael Deloge and Kenneth Countie, on her remote farm in Epping, New Hampshire. She said she had died of a drug overdose and was sent back to Earth as an angel with special powers here to seek vengeance on paedophiles. The problem was that her victims were not paedophiles. She would seduce slightly built, transient men, move them into her house and completely dominate their lives. Then she would torture them into confessing to being paedophiles on tape, before killing them and burning their remains.
A very special thank you to Kate Wallinga from Ignorance Was Bliss, check out her fabulous episodes here https://iwbpodcast.podbean.com

The Many Dead Wives Of Robert Spangler and Crappy Kidnapper Edwin Eastwood...
Robert Spangler loved hiking in the Grand Canyon. He also loved being married. What he didn't like was the pesky financial burden of divorce. After the 1990 death of his third wife Donna, whilst hiking in the Grand Canyon, investigators were alarmed to discover his wives often came to grizzly ends that were never anything to do with him. Or were they?
In 1972 , unemployed plasterers Edwin Eastwood and Robert Boland decided to kidnap school children and their teacher from Faraday Primary School for ransom money. Was this a stupid idea? It certainly was. Would Edwin go on to do it again at the Wooreen Primary School, 3 years later after a daring prison escape? He certainly would. Where does the murder come in? You’ll have to listen to find out!

Diabolical Doctor Anthony Pignataro and Emma LaDoux and Her Hat Of Doom...
In the late 1990’s Anthony Pignataro was a big-shot plastic surgeon in New York. He drove around in his red Lamborghini and gained international fame for inventing a “Snap on” hairpiece that connected to bolts he drilled into the skulls of bald men. His image was shattered in 1997, when Pignataro’s long history of medical malpractice came to light after another death of a patient, and soon afterwards his wife Debbie was struck down by a mysterious illness.
In 1906, in Stockton, California, Emma LaDoux was in a bigamous pickle. She had one too many husbands. How would she avail herself out of this “too many dicks on the dance floor” problamo? Let’s just say her solution involved a large trunk, a hell of a lot of morphine and one enormous flowered hat.

The Removal Revelation: The Ron and Dan Lafferty Story...
On July 24th, 1984, bearded brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty, radicalised by extreme Mormon beliefs and convinced they were prophets from God, forced their way into a duplex in American Fork, Utah. Here they brutally killed their brother's wife Brenda Lafferty and infant daughter Erica, believing they had received a revelation from God in which they were told to “remove” them from the earth. These senseless murders were fuelled by religious fanaticism, delusions of grandeur, and a long history of family violence.

The Green Widow and The Maitland Double Headless Murders...
Realising she’d be better off financially as a widow than a divorcee, Mary Ellen Samuels orchestrated the murder of her husband, Hollywood camera operator Robert Samuels. Then to cover her tracks, she organised the murder of the man who she paid to have her husband killed, her daughter’s fiancé Jim Bernstein.
In 1941, 14 year old Eric Francis Bowles murdered his magician master “Davo the Magnificent." When Sydney Shelley and his wife Elva were found decapitated in their home in 1960, their heads were nowhere to be found and Eric was the prime suspect. Known as the "Headless Bodies" case, this horrific double murder would go on to spark a macabre fascination worldwide.

The Pettingill Family - The True Animal Kingdom...
The phenomenal Australian crime film “Animal Kingdom” is one of our favourites but did you know it’s based on a true story? Ruled by murderous matriarch Kath, the notorious Pettingill family dominated the Melbourne Underworld in the 1970’s and 80’s. They were drug dealers, armed robbers, rapists and murderers. Even police officers were not safe from their reign of terror. This is a tale of extreme drug-use, rampant violent crime and police corruption. But the most shocking thing in this case is that the truth is not only stranger than fiction, it’s also much worse.

Bushrangers the Kenniff Brothers and Deadly Grandmother Caroline Grills...
Paddy and Jimmy Kenniff were cattle-duffers, pony-pinchers and general rabble rousers. They were the last of the great Australian bushrangers. Roaming the land fully armed and living in caves in country Queensland, in the early 1900s. They would come undone due to the brutal murders of an innocent copper, Constable George Doyle, and a bullying station manager, Albert Dahlke. The story of the Kenniff brothers is one of adventure and tragedy as well as being an intriguing murder mystery.
In Sydney in the late 1940’s, a short, bespectacled, great-grandmother named Caroline Grills became an unlikely serial killer. Caroline loved making cakes, biscuits and cups of tea for her relatives and especially loved seeming like an angel by helping them when they were ill…from the thallium she was poisoning them with.

Evil Thomas Halliday and The Murder Of Rhoni Reuter...
In early March 2006, mother of three, Shelley Stephenson vanished from Mildura in northern Victoria, Australia. Suspicion fell upon her ex-partner Thomas Halliday, who had a history of brutal and stalkerish behaviour. What followed was an amazing police investigation and court case, that yielded some unusual results.
Rhoni Reuter was the long-term girlfriend of ex-football player Shaun Gayle, who was seven months pregnant with his baby. Did Shaun kill Rhoni because he didn’t want to be tied down with a family? Or did someone else have a reason for wanting Rhoni and her unborn child dead?

Sienky Lallemand was a career conman who used his good looks and charm to take advantage of people. He not only slept with Marcus Toney's wife, but also stole his identity and murdered him. This story has everything: blackmail, Whitney Houston impersonators, pipe-bombs and face-altering plastic surgery.
On January 8th, 2002, pastry chef, alleged drug dealer and Carl Williams' henchman, Tommy Ivanovic shot motorcyclist Ivan Conabere. The murder took place out the front of Tommy's house in a completely unprovoked road rage attack and was captured on CCTV.

The Pied Piper of Tucson and The Ballad of Justin Cox...
Serial killer Charles Howard Schmid Jr was a bizarre young man who dyed his hair black and tanned his face with make up. He drew a mole on his cheek to look meaner and stuffed his boots full of tins cans and rags in an attempt to disguise his tiny stature. He was also an unlikely cult hero to the disaffected youth of Tucson in the early 1960's.
Justin Cox had always had a problem with managing his anger. A devastating life change, mixed with alcohol and the misguided belief a padelophile was living next door, drove him to murder a possibly innocent man named Samuel “Gadget” Connolly.

The Michael Kanaan Story - Special Edition...
To celebrate our 100th Episode we’ve joined forces with Cambo Ford to bring you Bloody Murder on True Crime Island: The Michael Kanaan Story!
Michael Kanaan is an Australian triple murderer from Sydney. He was second in charge of the notorious gang DK’s Boys who controlled the cocaine trade in Kings Cross in the late 90’s and were involved in all manner of tomfoolery, their violent crimes included kneecapping, extortion and shooting cops.
Most of Sydney’s traditional criminal underworld worked under the radar. They avoided clashes with cops like the plague. DK’s boys were a new breed, all anger and firepower. They had balls made of bullets and they weren’t afraid to use them.
This is a classic tale of a modern Aussie crim who grew up aspiring to live like the gangsters in the American movies he watched repeatedly. As is usually the case, things did not turn out well for anyone involved!

Chow Hayes was a violent, sadistic standover man, and murderer. In 1930, Chow became the first Australian criminal to be described by police as a "gangster". He would graduate from child thug to celebrity criminal by the age of 23 and wreaked havoc on the streets of Sydney for over five decades.

Mon, 12 Nov 2018 - 1h 24min - 86 - 97. Murderous Mary and the Vanishing of Paddy Moriarty
Murderous Mary and the Vanishing of Paddy Moriarty...
Described as a woman with "lovely russet hair, fine blue eyes, of normal build, with nice shapely hands" Mary Pearcey was a rather unconventional English woman who was convicted of murdering her lover's wife and child. She was sentenced to dangle on the end of a noose for her crimes. This is a patron request for Emily Kirkpatrick
On a hot December afternoon in 2007, 70 year Paddy Moriarty and his dog went missing in Larimah in the Northern Territory. Foul play was suspected. Police rounded up the usual suspects, the entire population of this tiny desert town, all 11 of them, all elderly. What would emerge, was plenty of motive and a decade long feud over pies.

Bloody Babs and You Me Car Park Now!...
Nicknamed "Bloody Babs" by the press, vamp from the wrong side of the tracks, Barbra Graham had multiple convictions for disorderly conduct, vagrancy, suspicion of prostitution and perjury by her early twenties. In 1953, she stepped it up a notch when she and her no-good boyfriend murdered 64-year-old widow Mabel Monohan in the course of a robbery.
One drunken night in 2011, Richard Devries found himself on the wrong end of a punch over a car parking space. What he did next was brutal and disproportionate and led to two murders and had most people scratching their heads and asking why wasn't this man already in prison?

The Killer Bride and Take my Last Beers and I'll Kill You...
Ashley Laney and Tracey Humphrey were married on the 4th of July, 2003. The next day, Ashley murdered Tracey’s ex-girlfriend Sandra Rosso, who was due to go to court to testify against him in an assault case. Did Ashley commit this murder of her own accord, or was she just a puppet for her controlling new husband?
Ever heard someone say ‘touch my beer and I’ll kill you’? Usually this is just an expression, but not for Northern Territory man Gary Miles. Gary killed his mate Paul Stamp because he drank his last four beers. Paul's murder would reveal the ugly face of alcohol fuelled violence in all it's tragic and brutal glory.

Divorced father of two Don Huckstep thought he’d met the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with on match.com. But as his wedding to Teri Deneka grew closer, he discovered the woman of his dreams wasn’t just a pathological liar, she was also a murderer.

Their fight began when Frank got annoyed at Gerardus because he couldn’t remember how to use the printer, even though Frank had showed him loads of times before. Frank called Gerardus “nothing but a dumb fucking bodybuilder”, this would make Gerardus see red and the lovers spat would turn to murder.

The Sinister Minister and The Mad Scientist...
Pennsylvania Pastor AB Schirmer’s wives had an unfortunate habit of dying suddenly in - rather ridiculous circumstances. Due to his stature, nobody thought to be suspicious of their deaths. But after the suicide of his mistress Cindy Musante’s husband, everything started to come undone for the Sinister Minister.
In Tasmania in 1983, Rory Jack Thompson strangled his ex-wife. He then cut her up into 91 pieces and flushed her down the toilet. Was this spectrum-surfing sociopath, this professor of fluid dynamics, just another man who horrifically murdered an ex-partner he couldn't control? Or is there more to his story?

The Abduction of Stephanie Slater and Murder by the River Lark...
Michael Sams was a one legged rapist, murderer and piss-poor extortion artist. After he abducted real estate agent Stephanie Slater, the police thought she was dead for sure, but she courageously managed to survive 8 days in his captivity.
In 2005, the small village of Fornham St Martin in Suffolk was horrified when the scorched body of Dawn Walker was found by the River Lark. Who would murder such a loved 37 year old in such a heinous way? All evidence pointed towards her boyfriend Kevin Nunn, but if he did it, did he act alone? And was the circumstantial evidence they had against him compelling enough for a conviction?

After murdering Stanford, Harry expected he'd hailed as a hero – and due to a huge media campaign organised by his doting mother, for a while there he was.
When Mirinda Boob conspired with her lover Ronald Heichel to kill her husband Samuel Boob, she enlisted the help of Kermit Butts...After news of this tragic murder hit the media in late 2009, the headline writers had an absolute field day!

Sun, 02 Sep 2018 - 1h 05min - 77 - 87. Australian Gothic - The Murder of Angelo Agostinelli
Australian Gothic - The Murder of Angelo Agostinelli...
In May 1994, caravan park owner Angelo Agostinelli went missing from the small town of Millicent in South Australia. The gossip around town was that he'd run off with another woman, but as days turned into weeks an intricate murder conspiracy unfolded. Angelo's disappearance sent the community into a frenzy and it was hard to differentiate fact from fiction amid all the increasingly outrageous rumours and that were being thrown around. In time, all of the caravan park's dirty laundry would be hung out to dry and all its dirty little secrets were exposed...It would also turn a lot of the towns folk vegetarian. Suggested to us by Tim Shepherd.

The Quiet Dell Murders and Two Home Invasions in West Sydney...
Herman Drenth was a vile pig of a man with several aliases who trotted his way into women’s lives through lonely hearts club letters that were made of lies. Once under his spell, he not only robbed them of everything they had but sometimes murdered them and their children.
A violent home invasion in Sydney in 2002 turned deadly when father of two, 53 year old Joseph Logozzo was shot and killed. The following police investigation and and eventual trial of Cambodian born Sophear Em was… a tad strange.

The Absurdly Motivated Murder of Joey Fisher and The Stalking Murder of Adriana Donato...
Surgeons wife and mother of 5 Dora Cisneros was very upset that her 17-year-old daughter Christina's boyfriend Joey Fischer had broken up with her. When nagging Joey to get back with Christina and even offering to bribe him to do so failed, Dora decided to organise his murder with the help of a local fortune-teller.
In the outer suburbs of Melbourne in 2012, Adriana Donato was senselessly murdered by her ex-boyfriend James Stoneham. This is the kind of jealousy-fuelled violence that women are subjected to way too often. Adriana would never have got in her ex-boyfriend’s car if she had known about his plot to kill her and that he had a knife. Others knew. Why didn’t anyone tell her?

The Hunter Killer Club and The Gun Alley Murder of 1921...
Florida couple Deidre Hunt and her boss/lover Konstantinos Fotopoulos committed the shooting murders of two men. One of which was supposed to kill Fotopoulos' wife so they could get the insurance money and the other who threatened to blab to the authorities about a counterfeit money scheme they were involved in. This case has so many ridiculous twists and turns it belongs in a Coen brothers movie!
In 1921, in Gun Alley, Melbourne, Australia, a 12 year old girl named Alma Tirtschke was sent by her grandmother to pick up some shopping. However, instead of returning home, she was brutally raped and murdered. The crime shocked the city, and Melbournians were whipped into a frenzy, demanding the culprit be apprehended. A local innkeeper named Colin Ross was questioned and quickly arrested. He was promptly tried and hanged. But was he innocent?

The Watery Graves of Tom and Jackie Hawks and Two Time Murderer Anthony Sullivan...
Loving couple Tom and Jackie Hawks had retired early to live an adventurous life on the sea in their boat "the Well Deserved." After the birth of their first grandchild they decided to move to Arizona. Failed child actor Skylar Deleon and his wife answered an ad to buy the boat, after hatching a plan to murder the Hawks and steal all their hard earned possessions.

Daniel Stani-Reginald had a very traumatic childhood, so much so it turned him into a psychopath and potential serial killer. After years of schooling himself in the art of murder, in 2011 he finally acted out his fantasies. This proved to be deadly for his neighbour, 24 year old Indian student Tosha Thakkar.

The Murders of Ramon Navarro and Alan Henry...
Talented actor Ramon Navarro was a big star in Hollywood during the silent era. His career faded over the years, but he still enjoyed entertaining young male escorts with stories of his time in the spotlight. This is how he met hustlers the Ferguson brothers, who would end his life during an alcohol fuelled Halloween Eve. Alan Henry thought Gloucester in country NSW would be a good place to retire, but after his wife passed he found that he need some assistance. Employing Natasha Slacke as a part-time carer proved to be a fatal mistake. She and her violent boyfriend Jason Grogen had chequered pasts and addiction issues that senselessly led to Alan's demise.

The Murders of Aaron Pajich and Matthew Digby...
Vile goblins Jemma Lilley and her house mate Trudi Lenon had a selfish and stupid plan to make history as serial killers. Their first and only victim was Aaron Pajich, a trusting 18 year old computer game enthusiast with Asperger's syndrome, who was friends with Trudi's son.
After Lauren Batcheldor's house was burgled in 2010, she and Richard Walsh decided to take the law into their own hands. It would set off a chain of events that led to the kidnapping and torture death of Matthew Digby in Wollongong.

The Murders of Sophie Lionnet and Senior Constable David Rixon...
21 year old Sophie Lionnet was a shy and reserved French woman working as a nanny in the UK. Her delusional employer Sabrina Kouider, believed Sophie was colluding with her ex Mark Walton, a founding member of Irish boyband Boyzone, to drug and sexually assault her family, so they tortured her to death.
On an overcast morning in March 2003, Senior Constable David Rixon pulled over ice addicted knucklehead Michael Allen Jacobs for a random breath test. Already disqualified from driving, Jacobs decided to shoot his way out of the traffic infringement rather than face a hefty fine.

Sick Ripper William Howell and The murders of Michelle Lewis and Kenny Harris...
William Devin Howell is the most prolific serial killer in Connecticut history. He murdered 7 people in his van "the murder mobile" and buried them behind a shopping centre in a marshy woodland area he called "his garden."
Cheeky tomboy Michelle Lewis and disabled teenager Kenny Harris were two unlikely best friends from the wrong side of the tracks. They had the good fortune to find each other and experience real happiness for the first time in their lives, only to be murdered.

William Beggs and Rodney Collins...
William Beggs is the so called "limbs in the loch murderer." This case became one of Scotland's most high profile and gruesome murder investigations after a police diver on a routine training exercise found a bin bag containing a severed forearm and leg.
Rodney Collins was one of Australia’s most prolific hitmen, a mean hearted little man, who mostly killed for greed but was known to commit brutal and vicious crimes for pleasure as well. He was involved in at least 10 murders and was also rumoured to be part of an armed robbery team that killed a security guard.

Sun, 20 May 2018 - 57min - 62 - 70. Pierre Basson and Dennis Bagwell
Pierre Basson and Dennis Bagwell...
Pierre Basson was South Africa's first documented serial killer. His lack of empathy made him a very dangerous man. He was described by police as 'a scoundrel from infancy' due to his violence towards animals and later graduated to murdering innocent people for insurance money.
Former meat salesman Dennis Bagwell was a cocaine addicted, rage-monster with a violent criminal past. When his mother would only give him $20 to buy drugs with, his barely contained fury exploded with devastating consequences.

Lenny McPherson Special Edition with Cambo from True Crime Island...
Cambo from True Crime Island joins forces with Tara and Barney to discuss one of the most powerful and scary Australian career criminals of all time; Lenny McPherson. Lenny controlled much of Sydney's organised crime activity from the 1950's right into the mid 1990's and has been described as “More cunning than a shithouse rat.”
Nicknamed Sydney's "Mr Big" of organised crime, he was feared by his competition and green lit by the corrupt cops supporting him. His criminal activities included robbery, theft, extortion rackets, illegal gambling, sly-grog shops, prostitution, drug dealing and, of course, lots and lots of murder!

Judy Buenoano and Donald Webb...
Judy Buenoano was a stone cold, psychopathic serial killer who murdered her son and several lovers for insurance money. Although she favoured poison as a weapon, she wasn't afraid to branch out and try other rather dramatic methods.
Donald Webb was a mob connected, slippery bastard. Police described him as "an itinerant burglar well versed in the art of criminal impersonation". Webb liked to steal shit, murder cops, make it onto FBI lists and hide for years in closets.

Richard Beasley and Daniel Camargo Barbosa...
Serial killer Richard Beasley always had a racket going on, including selling drugs, making moonshine or pimping out down on their luck women. He came up with the idea to use Craigslist to lure unemployed, middle aged men to him by promising them the job of a lifetime. Known as The Mangrove Monster, The Colombian Sadist and The Beast of the Andes, Daniel Camargo Barbosa was a psychopathic serial killer from Colombia. Insisting on only attacking virgins, it is believed that he raped and killed over 150 young girls during the 70s and 80s.

Cleophus Prince Jr and Bold Jack Donohue...
Cleophus Prince Jr. raped and killed 6 women in San Diego in 1990. Most of the attacks took place in or around the apartment complex in Clairemont where he and his girlfriend lived. He would stalk the women - usually after seeing them at the gym, break in to their homes during the day and attack them when they were showering with knives from their own kitchens..

Tue, 27 Mar 2018 - 58min - 52 - 58. Rosie Batty Special Edition
Rosie Batty Special Edition...
Rosie Batty never thought she'd have children. The death of her mother when she was 6 years old left her feeling traumatised and hesitant to be close to people. Having her son Luke changed everything for the better, but her relationship with his father Greg Anderson, turned violent and very dangerous. What ensued was a decade of terrifying family violence and failure after failure by the authorities in Australia who were meant to be protecting them from it. It took the ultimate tragedy and an unthinkable amount of courage and grace to shine a light on the epidemic of family violence in this country, and finally force the authorities to make changes to how these issues are handled.
If you would like to know more of Rosie's story, read her book “ A Mother Story”. It really is quite remarkable. Here's a link
After accepting her “Australian of the Year Award” in 2015. Rosie made an amazing speech. Here's a link to a video.
