What is a creed? You may be surprised how often you interact with a creed or the concept of one. The question becomes how to use them and how do they show up in our worship both personal and congregational. Thu, 26 May 2022 - 26min - 508 - CWD Episode 157: What Do Historical Sources Say about Early Christianity?
The Bible is a religious text and that can cause skeptical people to dismiss what is found inside. Rather than this being a barrier to discussions and sharing the gospel with others, let's look at what outside documents say about the Bible, Jesus, Christians, and Christian practices. There is a lot of information out there that verifies what we find in the Bible. We have a timeline on the screen throughout this video. What does it mean to have fellowship with another person or between congregations? Is it just making personal choices between congregations or something much more? Maybe you have heard someone discussing the marks of fellowship and wondered what that meant or what they are based on. Sometimes these discussions may seem unnecessary or irrelevant, but as many of you know they can become personal and divisive very easily if we don't keep our focus on Christ and his Word.

We really hope you'll listen to the entirety of this conversation, but if you have to skip ahead - make sure and listen to the last 3 minutes as Jed and Dan give some concluding thoughts. Thu, 14 Apr 2022 - 36min - 505 - CWD Episode 154: Did Jesus Raise and Establish a New Temple Worship?
Jesus and the apostles spent a lot of time in the Temple courts and the Jewish Synagogues. So, when Jesus rose from the dead what kind of worship did he establish? What did the apostles teach about worship? We hope you have watched the previous episode that dove into ancient worship practices for the Israelites. As we see how God called people to worship it helps us understand what Jesus and the apostles taught after Jesus' resurrection. Do we gather to do one thing only - that being to worship God? Let's explore these scriptures together, and as always, please let us know if you have further comments or questions on this subject. What's the difference between a Tabernacle and a Synagogue? Or Solomon's Temple and Moses' Tabernacle? Aren't they all just places of worship? Let's spend some time looking deeper into these places, how they functioned, who established them, and what was done in each place. A better understanding of these places and their practices will help us build a foundation for other conversations about worship practices today.
Thu, 17 Mar 2022 - 32min - 503 - CWD Episode 152: What Does the Bible Say About Hell?
This isn't a fun subject for anyone, but the Bible and Jesus specifically says quite about about eternity for those who haven't followed the will of God. We have been asked by several people to discuss this topic; so, rather than give our thoughts on various views - Dan walks us through the passages and encourages us to consider what the scriptures say.
Thu, 03 Mar 2022 - 19min - 502 - CWD Episode 151: Can I Help People Change?
If you haven't listened to our previous conversation, "Can People Change?" We'd really encourage you to go back and start there. This is a deeper discussion on the role we can possibly play in the life of another person. We can't change them, but can we facilitate change in their life? Do we sit back and wait for things to happen or take an active role? Again, these discussions can change drastically depending on individual situations, but we hope the general principles from God's Word can bring hope to your life.
Thu, 17 Feb 2022 - 33min - 501 - CWD Episode 150: Can People Change
We're not talking about changing your eating habits, workout habits, or time you wake up in the morning. We're asking the question, "Can people be fundamentally changed at the core of their being?" This question has deep implications for how we view people around us and their relationship with Christ. This question is one that fills the hearts and minds of so many people as they pray for friends and family members. But as always, what does the Bible say about a person's ability and desire to change? How can we look at the teachings of God's Word and find a spiritually healthy approach to this subject? Join us in this conversation and let us know your thoughts and further questions on this important subject.

When you were baptized someone probably said something before you were taken into the water. Do you remember what they said? Does it matter what they said or if they said anything at all? There are a few passages in the New Testament that seem to create some tension around this subject that we will discuss in this video. Dan and Jed start in Matthew 18 to get a picture of what Jesus was trying to say and who he was saying it to. Then the conversation heads toward practical applications of the principle.

What are some criteria you can use to make sure you will grow spiritually wherever you land? So, if there aren't a lot of specific verses to guide us are there general principles we can follow? We hope to encourage the heart of the seeker away from a consumer's approach. Hopefully, this conversation helps if you are in this situation, but if you have scenarios you'd like us to discuss please send them our way and we will try to address them in a third video on this subject.
Fri, 14 May 2021 - 31min - 486 - CWD Episode 135: When Should You Leave Your Congregation?
We're starting a two-part (possibly three) discussion about leaving a congregation and searching for a new one. We can't cover every possible situation and we know there are lots of them. This video hopes to lay the groundwork and look at scriptures that address some common things related to congregations and their health. We also discuss personal relationships within a congregation and how that affects your spiritual growth. If you haven't ever had to leave a congregation or consider doing so - know that it isn't an easy choice for anyone. We don't want to oversimplify or downplay the impact this has on individuals, families, and the congregations involved. We do hope this helps us all become better congregations who care for each individual and seek to be the Church as Christ calls it to be. Several times you will hear us mention a desire to hear your stories. We really mean it. Please send us your thoughts and comments to help us better address this important subject. It may lead to us putting together a third video in this series to dig deeper on some specific situations.
Mon, 10 May 2021 - 34min - 485 - CWD Episode 134: What Does Gift Based Ministry Look Like?
What is a Christian's responsibility to serve? Is it on the individual to find a role to play? Should the local congregation create spaces to serve and be active in filling those service needs? It is vitally important to the Church that people know their gifts and use them in service to God. Congregational leaders should closely consider how they are building up those in their care and encouraging them to use their gifts. But what does it look like? How does this work happen? Dan and Jed discuss this topic in today's conversation. It's a little longer than usual, but it lays the biblical foundations and goes through some practical examples of implementation. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this subject as well as any questions you may have.

Comment with any questions on this topic or passages you would like us to explore related to prophecy.
Tue, 30 Mar 2021 - 25min - 483 - CWD Episode 132: How Does Our Life Change in Christ?
A great question came in asking, "what should change in a person's life when they make their commitment to Christ?" They mentioned the joy that comes from being a disciple of Christ and yet many seem to accept that a Christian's duty is just to attend church services and be a nice person. Is there more to our life change than that? Let's dive into this discussion together, and share with us your thoughts on this subject as well. What would you share with someone who asked this question of you?

Why is that the case? Is there something wrong with the concept of or practice of Lent? Dan and Jed will discuss Lent as a season, but also the act of fasting and what the Bible has to say about self-control. Let's consider how we can work to grow spiritually in our focus on Christ not just in the weeks before Easter but throughout the year.

We hope this conversation leads to us all thinking deeply about our Christian walk as individuals. Maybe it will lead us to consider the focus within our congregation as well. Tue, 05 Jan 2021 - 23min - 474 - CWD Episode 124: Is the Church of Christ a Cult?
You might be surprised to know that our question is based on something that comes up regularly in our comment section. People ask if we are a cult, people accuse us of being a cult, some people encourage others to leave the Church of Christ because they saw the congregation they were part of as a cult. We decided it was time to address this subject, and we fully expect to get follow-up questions and comments on our discussion. There is no way we could address all aspects of this topic, but we humbly attempted to give the conversation an honest and open start. This discussion was originally aired on August 2, 2018. Churches of Christ have traditionally taken part in what we call the Lord's Supper or Communion every Sunday. Is this because it is commanded in scripture or through example? You may have heard the suggestion that having it less often would make the Lord's Supper more special. Does that feeling line up with scripture? The year isn't quite finished, but we are going ahead and taking a Christmas Break!
