25 years ago, I first laid my hands on some Technic 1200s and became addicted! To celebrate this huge milestone, I decided to produce some sets that made me fall in love with the scene in the first place. After going through over 7,500 tracks from the 90’s and early 2000’s, I came up with the White Doves and Green Triangles Mixes. I wanted it to represent what was happening in Los Angeles trance scene, my hometown. Full of hidden gems, forgotten treasures, lessor known mixes, and a couple of my favorite tracks from that era, I wanted to create something authentic in every way. The White Doves mix is more of a pre-midnight mix where the Green Triangles mix is more full on rave, but structured to listen to one after the other. About Espacio: Commissioned in 2023 by top listener Calvin G., Espacio is part two of a series inspired by the exploration of space and also The Crystal Method's "High Roller” as a reference track. Jess originally created "Last Night on Earth" as part one in the series which is about an astronaut romanticizing about their upcoming launch to space. This euphoric journey explores their dreams and potential difficulties the would encounter with a blissful return home. The follow up “Espacio” is about the realities and complications of space travel. Welcome to the lost files of Jess Van Ness. Moods for the Moody was actually the first draft of “The Last Breathe” originally recorded in 2020, but the impact of George Floyd changed the course of this release. Devastated, Jess changed almost the entire project based on what he was feeling at the time as a tribute to those that tragically lost their lives at the hands of those that are supposed to be protectors. This recording was filed away and almost forgotten. Unfortunately, the set list has also been lost. About Moods for the Moody, it’s a collage of deep dark twisting tracks ranging from progressive, minimal techno, afro, and melodic techno with elements of haunting vocals.

Twenty years ago after attending many underground parties, I first got my hands on a friends turntables. I was hooked! Soon after I bought a Vestex PMC05 with Technic 1200 MKII’s and I spent hours tucked away learning to spin hard trance, never thinking I would continue to do so 20 years later. It has been my therapy and an artistic outlet. This creative outlet has lead me to explore for countless hours different genres and sounds, learning variations of mixing skills along the way. If I could give any advice to new commers it’ this; record whatever you play and listen to it. It will help you perfect your craft. Learn to beat match without autosync. It helps dial in your ear. Learn the timing and perfect the transition. It will bring your sets to life! Tell a story. Figure out where you want to start, where you want to end, where to place your peaks, and when to pull back. Get the blance right. Learning to use trim and EQ will create perfect blends. Years: 1995 - 2003 Kicking off with deep underground track from Gabriel Masurel “Entropie”, this massive Psytrance opener took me years to find and was able to obtain the vinyl copy. I always wanted to use this track in something but it was stolen years ago. The concept of this mix came from a vision of primitive cultures dancing in late night tribal ritualism much like today's culture. Paradise Lost is a tribute set to survivors of the numerous tragedies throughout 2017 comprised of old and new material. Some of my most favorite places in the world have been destroyed. This is dedicated to the people Saint Maarten, St. Barts, Puerto Rico, Barcelona, Las Vegas, Charleston, California, Texas, Florida and the numerous other places that were ravaged by hurricanes or experiencing discourse. My heart goes out to you all! And to my friends that are struggling with life, this is for you. Keep your head up! You know who you are.... Now, on with the show! Kicking spring off with a desert party / psytrance Inspired set and infused with breaks, trance, and some old anthems spanning three decades. Retrospective is the first of a series to pay homage to amazing tracks of yesterday. Volume I is heavily inspired by the Moonshine label and its great artists such as Brian Seed and John Kelley that helped create the desert party scene of Southern California, WAY before Burning Man. If you had a chance to experience Dune, Orion, or any of the Moontribe parties, you know what I'm talking about. It also includes epic tracks from Transa, L.S.G., Liquid Art, and Underworld. Tribal / Techhouse / TechTrance: The concept and inspiration of this mix came from my vision of primitive cultures dancing in late night tribal ritualism. Slightly breaking away from my normal format, I wanted to emphasize heavy percussion and bass instead of trancey synth lines, but still somewhat melodic. Just a little project I've wanted to do for some time : ) ENJOY!
