As we come to the end of the body of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus speaks strong words of frank warning to be sober and cautious about who you allow to ­­­­influence and shape your vision for life and understanding of what is true, good, and real.

There is a striking phrase in the last line of the body of the Sermon on the Mount that gets to the essence of our purpose for existence. “I never knew you…depart from me…” Matthew 7:23

Nearing the end of His Visionary Manifesto for Life, Jesus prepares us for sober action with the truth that there are two paths you can take in life: The Easy way, that leads to destruction. The Hard way, that leads to LIFE. Which will you choose, each day?

God’s Word has great news that we were not made for a life of apathy or complacency but rather a life of consistent burning for Him.

Most people spend many years of their lives trying to figure out their life calling/purpose. We conflate purpose with function not understanding that our purpose is to purely BE WITH Jesus which then allows us to function for Jesus.

In your sphere of influence, are you cultivating a culture of judgment criticizing people or a culture of grace calling out their gold? In this portion of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus calls us to spend most of our time and energy examining and correcting our own flaws instead of other people's.

Fasting (which Jesus calls us to), is not about legalistic no’s, its about cultivating a disciplined life of choosing of your best Yes.
