- 538 - Episode 362 – Do We Only Pod When Ferrari Win?
Another enforced break, another comeback and another Ferrari victory. We should be getting paid by the Scuderia to take more time off!
This week on the (yet another) return of the podcast we try to catch up on everything we’ve missse over the last month and a half and also fit a USA Grand Prix review in as well. Has the challenge from Lando Norris fizzled out as he ended up (his own words) “driving like a Muppet” on Sunday which ended up with a controversial penalty, although all the penalties and non-penalties this week were controversial. And does this mean Max is now on the front foot for the WDC fight this year?
When it comes to the constructor’s championship, that’s so far up in the air it’s practically in orbit and with a Ferrari 1-2 in Austin we could be in for a 3-way fight for it over the final 5 weekends of the season.
As said on the show, hopefully we’ll see you next week, seeing as we’re 1 race weekend in to the 1st of 2 triple header (maths!)

First we’ll start with an apology for being more anonymous than your average Sauber for the last 2 months. We’ve had a few things to put up with, family stuff, Covid (again), day job stress, mental health problems and more But what a time to make a comeback!
This week on the podcast we look back at the Italian Grand Prix where once again McLaren seemed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and hand a win to the home team of Ferrari. At least RedBull have suddenly found themselves dropping down the pack with a massively unbalanced car that’s getting more expletives from Max than we heard from him in the Toro Rosso days!
There’s all the news as well (up to Monday anyway, thank you very much Adrian Newey) with Kimi Antonelli joining Mercedes, Nobody having a clue what’s going on with the RedBull/RB seats for next year and you can tell we’ve had a couple of months off as Alpine have got another new team principle
Advance warning, thanks to 3 of us being on holiday at the same time (not all together though, Kieren would never fit in a suitcase) we’ll be back in a couple of weeks and you never know, we might do that poolside podcast we were threatening last year!
Thanks again for bearing with us during the enforced break

Well Lewis Hamilton has finally won a race again for the first time since Jeddah 2021 and of course there were plenty of stats and new records broken so who better to discuss this week’s British Grand Prix with than VirtualStatman Sean Kelly.
This week on the podcast we veer off into our normal tangents about former drivers, along with Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Titch as Kieren regrets things he’s done in the past! There’s also our wrapup of one of the best British Grands Prix that we’ve seen in a long time.
Another one for fans of nostalgia and quizzes sees the one-off, we’re trying to make it more than that, return of “Who The Bloody Hell’s That Then” (Lee won’t let us call it by its old name unless he’s asking the questions)
All together a fun couple of hours!

Well that was an ending that we were and weren’t expecting all at the same time. Lando and Max going literally toe to toe over several laps at turn 3 at the RedBull Ring in this week’s Austrian Grand Prix. We thought it was going to end in tears and for both of them it did. For George Russell and Mercedes on the other hand (not to mention Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz) it was a pretty happy ending to the race for them. But where does that leave the Lando & Max friendship now?
This week on the podcast we look back at a race that is possibly going to have repercussions on the rest of this season and maybe even longer. This week leaves a ton of questions hanging in the air: Is Max going to carry on being as agressive? Is Lando going to start backing out of making moves, or will this push him to make more of them? Will this let Ferrari back into the constructor’s championship race if RedBull aren’t getting wins? And where the hell was Checo again (pt 6)

We never thought we’d see the day again. No not a Mercedes on the podium, a broken Ferrari strategy or even a Max Verstappen win. But F1 actually allowing a race to start while it was raining and what a great call it was too!
This week on the podcast we look back at an action packed Canadian Grand Prix where normal service seemed to have been resumed at the front with our usual Sunday performance of the Dutch National Anthem, but this time round Max had to work for it and McLaren and Mercedes were there at the sharp end to make sure that he wasn’t able to head off into the sunset (rainset?) with everyone else trailing in his wake (tying to keep the puns to a minimum here)
There’s the usual team by team review of the race, which gives us chance to dump on the usual suspects (Logan Sargent, Ferrari) and if it had rained more we could have been covering Haas last! Along with the standard tangents and as it’s Canada there’s also a few things we don’t say (baby)

All the action compressed into approximately 45 seconds, but spread out over almost 3 hours. That’s the best way to describe the Moncao Grand Prix this year.
This week on the podcast we try and make the parade on Sunday sound somewhere close to interesting when there were only 4 overtake, 7 pit stops by 6 drivers and a top 10 that finished in the same order that they started in.
Sounds great doesn’t it!
We’ve tried to make it interesting, but at least we’ve got Canada next up so hopefully things will be back to some kind of normal by then!
In better news, a good mate of ours, Josh Morris, is doing a 24 hour sim racing challenge on Weds 29th May at 7PM UK time in aid of CALM (Campaign against Living Miserably) as part of Race 2 Reach Out so please pop along to their Facebook page or our YouTube Channel to support and donate while he’s sitting in a racing rig for 24 hours straight!

Enjoy (at least there’s a couple of decent jokes in this week’s show)Tue, 28 May 2024 - 55min - 532 - Episode 356 – Have We Got A Championship?
In the old days the Grand Prix at this circuit used to be known as the San Marino GP, now however we have to call it the “FORMULA 1 MSC CRUISES GRAN PREMIO DEL MADE IN ITALY E DELL’EMILIA-ROMAGNA” Basically we’re talking about this weekend’s race at Imola or the “Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari” to give it its proper name!
This week on the pod we look back a race that came alive in the last few laps and as is different for F1 over the last few years, there was actually a chase on for the win over them. Have we seen McLaren really show up as pretenders to RedBull’s crown after their recent total domination?
As always we go from the back to the front of the results and see who did what, who could have done better and did anyone give us any surprises?
Just don’t mention Sim Racing to Paul this week!

Tue, 21 May 2024 - 1h 40min - 531 - Episode 355 – LANDOOOOOOOOOO
Congratulations to Nick Heidfeld for re-taking the coveted spot as the F1 driver with the most podiums without a win, yep that means Lando isn’t on that list anymore as he’s FINALLY WON A GRAND PRIX (we might be a little bit happy for him)
This week on the pod we look back at a packed weekend of racing in Miami which saw Kevin Magnussen rack up penalties like they were Pokemon (think he did catch em all), Lando Norris go from punted out on lap 1, turn 1 of the sprint to the top step of the podium on Saturday and another previous guest and friend of the Podcast, Abbi Pulling, dominate the F1 Academy with 2 pole positions and 2 wins to extend her lead at the top of that series. Maybe being on 3Legs4Wheels can be good for your racing career?
Sorry that we’ve been away for a few weeks, but Paul and his mum would like to thank everyone that’s been in touch for all the kind thoughts and messages you’ve sent since his father sadly died last month.
On a happier note things are getting back to normal at 3Legs towers, so expect more from us this year!

We’ve been talking about it for weeks and now it’s finally here. No not the first Sunday Grand Prix of the season (although that’s happening as well this weekend) but we have finally managed to get the author of Overtake My Heart, The Polesitter Always Rings Twice and Oh The Races You Will Throw, “Anita Driver” on the podcast!
After releasing 6 F1 books over the last few months Anita has caused a bit of a sensation in the world of motorsport and we’re pleased to welcome them along for a chat where we find out all about their influences and what motivates them to write about Racing in their unique style!
There’s also a bit of a preview of this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix and more tangents than normal, even by our tangential standards!

2024 starts just as 2023 finished with an utterly dominant win for the seemingly unstoppable Max Verstappen in the all conquering RedBull. But all is not sweetness and light behind the scenes at the Milton Keynes based team…
This week on the podcase we look back over the Bahrain Grand Prix which showed that you can’t always believe what you see in pre-season testing, aka the Winter Championship. And some teams might have done a little bit of bagsanding (it’s the opposite of sandbagging!)
Of course the Grand Prix wasn’t the only talking point of the weekend and we cast our collective eyes over the big changes at Alpine that have come very early in the season with 2 senior team members departing and a whole bunch of new Technical Directors moving in pretty soon afterwards. There’s also the allegation that’s come to light that the FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, personally intervened to remove a penalty from Fernando Alonso at last year’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix
And seeing as everyone else is commenting on it we look at the timeline of the Christian Horner situation and try as hard as we can not to get sued!
Also this week sees the debut of Poetry Corner, but you’ll have to listen to the show to find out what we’re talking about here (but massive thanks to upcoming guest Anita Driver!)

Testing is done and the next time we see the cars on track will be on Thursday (surely some mistake?) for the 1st practice session of the 2024 F1 season.
Seeing as there’s only 4 of us to fill the time this week, we’ve picked up where we left off in last week’s mega show and we’re going through what we think we’re going to see this season, a few bold predictions and many many tangents.
As always at the start of the season, there’s the admin to get out of the way. There’s the Prediction League and The Fantasy League too so loads of chances to get predicting.
All the recording hardware is sorted (except for that 1 last pesky mic cable which you’ll hear at a few points) so we’re all set up for the new season and we’ll do everything we can to be around a lot more this year!

Tue, 27 Feb 2024 - 1h 45min - 527 - Episode 351 – The Big TeamUp (3L4WEF1 Not VCRABS)
What better way to kick the 2024 F1 season off than getting together with friends to talk all things F1 and all other things as well? In our usual form we managed to squeeze some F1 content in between the tangents with our friends from the Everything F1 Podcast And what a great bunch they are too,
So in what’s become our biggest show yet the 9, yes NINE, of us talk about the upcoming season after we’ve seen all the car launches, who looks good, who’s bluffing and will Haas be a let down again. Along with multiple tangents and a few new sound effects thanks to Kieren’s new toy/gadget (jury is still out)
Hope you enjoy a different kind of show from us this week and if you like what you hear, then you can find the Everything F1 Podcast on all the usual podcast platforms where you find our show.

Or does it? Well we’ve had a couple of weeks of late off-season madness haven’t we. Andretti getting their bid to join the grid rejected, Guenther leaving Haas, the possible return of Sepang, rumours of a new street race in Chicago on the NASCAR/iRacing circuit and the slight matter of Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes for Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season!
There was no way we couldn’t come back after all this as we’ve got tons to talk about, sadly however we had more technical gremlins so the sound quality might not be as good as usual, but we hope everything we’ve got to say more than makes up for it!
So this week on the pod we try to unpick all the big F1 news that’s gone on over the last few weeks during a time where traditionally nothing normally happens except car launches! And we hereby kick off the 2024 silly season before any of this year’s cars have even seen a track. Of course it wouldn’t be complete without our usual tangents and we’ve got them in spades (and plenty of other gardening implements too)
Hopefully we’ve put all the problems behind us now and we can actually get a full season in this year and make up for our slightly patchy schedule over the last couple of years.
One extra thing on this week’s show is that we’ve given our closing theme tune over to the new single from a Brighton based band called Guilty and The Dead, the song’s called Good Sailors and for anyone that’s a fan of classic rock, it’ll be right up your street!

22 Races and 21 wins along with another 5 sprint wins for good measure. You could say that this has been Red Bull’s season right from the start, with just a blip in Singapore stopping them from a complete clean sweep? You could say that but lets face it, it’s Max Verstappen that has done the majority of the heavy lifting for the team this year. So much so that he actually scored more points on his own than any other team managed with 2 drivers!
So this week on the podcast we look back at the season ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which once again was a bit of a parade, but a lot of a celebration as the 2023 F1 season drew to a close in the now traditional way of a day to night race in the desert, just for once we had all 20 runners classified as finishing, even though Ferrari had possibly the strangest strategy going for Carlos (but would it be a real race if Ferrari don’t confuse everyone, including their drivers, at least once a race?)
There’s more tangents than most other F1 shows as well as we go down some strange rabbit holes and there’s also the reappearance of an old “friend” in there too!
If you’re going to miss us in the off-season, don’t worry as we’ll be putting out shows over the winter and you can also join us on Discord too, along with Facebook & Twitter and Paul’s attempts at Sim Racing on our Twitch channel and if you want the extra (Neckstra?) show then you can still sign up for our Patreon from £/$/€1 a month and find out what we’re talking about!

17 wins in a season with 2 races still to go, what more can you say about Max Verstappen’s out and out dominance in 2023 that hasn’t already been said? He chalked up the record (along with his 4th sprint win of the season too) at Sao Paolo at the weekend in what used to the called the Brazilian Grand Prix, but is now the Sao Paolo GP instead
This week on the podcast we take a look back at the weekend, one that Toto Wolff has described as one of Mercedes’ worst weekends in their entire time in F1 (Spain 2016 has entered the chat) and once again Alfa Romeo were utterly Saubernonymous. There’s a look at the new as well as get towards the twilight of the 2023 season. with Haas trying to get the results of the USGP from over 2 weeks ago changed with new evidence about track limits (between recording and releasing this their appeal has been thrown out for a lack of new evidence.) And all the tangents you’d expect

Was Sergio Perez ever in with a chance at winning his home race this year after saying he was fed up of “just” being on the podium? Well you might not be able to win a race on turn 1, but you can certainly lose one.
This week on the podcast we look back at a surprisingly incident packed Mexico City Grand Prix where Max Verstappen took the outright record for the number of wins in a single season and came one step closer to winning the Constructor’s Championship for RedBull effectively on his own. As per usual we go from the back of the pack (Aston Martin we’re looking at you here) to the front (no surprises who’s there), a bit like Lando Norris after a bad restart if you think about it,
Also tacked on at the end of the show this week is a special preview of our Patreon only show where we take a deep dive into Overtake My Heart, an “adult” novel about Daniel Ricciardo (no we’re not joking!) If you want to hear more, then sign up to our PPatreon from £/$/€1 a month

Tue, 31 Oct 2023 - 1h 42min - 522 - Episode 346 – When Is A Podium Not A Podium?
When the stewards announce disqualifications after the race again. This time round though it was for worn planks and skid blocks instead of track limits, so I guess that makes a change!
This week on the podcast we look back at the US Grand Prix (the 2nd US Race out of 3, but the only one called the USGP, following?) where, due to the sprint format, teams only had 1 practice session on Friday morning to actually get their cars ready for 2 races. While some teams went cautious when setting up for the bumpy Austin circuit, others tried to push things to the limit and in the case of Mercedes and Ferrari, they may have taken it a little too far.
There’s the usual team by team review and because we haven’t spoken to each other for a couple of weeks then there’s probably more tangents than there should be in an F1 show!
Also this week there’s a couple of people to thank. This week’s cover photo was taken at the track by “Harrsion” and posted to our Discord chat mid-race and made us all jealous! Also we’ve got another different closing theme tune again. This week’s track is called Fragile by a good friend of all of ours Steve “Noshie” Nash and all proceeds from the sale of this song go to the charity Hospice Isle Of Man. You can buy the track for £2 from https://stevenashsmallbear.bandcamp.com/track/fragile

That was an unexpected break for us thanks to a lot of reasons we don’t want to bore you with, but we’re finally back with new hardware and software and we can finally finish the half term review, even though we’re closer to the end of the season than we were when we started it!
To make up for taking a bit of time off, we thought we’d come back with something a bit special and the week for the first time in nearly a year and a half, we’ve got Craig Scarborough with us, so if anyone can tell us about the top 5 teams’ performance this year it’s got to be him!
So this week on the podcast we pick up where we left in the summer with a look at the top 5 teams in the Constructor’s Championship and where they’ve got things both right and wrong this year. Also on a big day of F1 news, we look at how the new McLaren wind Tunnel will give them an extra boost for the rest of the year and into 2024 and also what Andretti will have to go through to be accepted onto the grid after the FIA gave their approval that they can be an F1 team (If F1 actually let them join)

We weren’t planning on taking an early summer break this year, but due to a variety of reasons we’ve only just managed to get things together to record a show. So to make up for it we’ve packed things out this week with over 2 hours of stuff
First up is our half term review of the back half of the teams where we go from Alpha Tauri in 10th to the chaos that is Alpine in 5th place.
Also this week Paul & Kieren had a chat with F1 and all-round motoring writer Adam Hay-Nicholls about his time in the paddock and his new biography of Charles Leclerc that’s well worth a read (or a listen in Kieren’s case)
And if that’s not enough we’ve changed our closing theme music for this week as one of our friends has some new music out, so check out Above The Clouds by Mark Pendlebury
Hope all this makes up for being away for a while but we “should” be a bit more regular now for the next few months!

Sometimes doing a show a day late has its benefits and this week we managed to get both the news of Williams putting out a Gulf livery for 3 races (Singapore, Japan & Qatar) and something about a driver change at Alpha Tauri?
Yep, the news that’s shocked nobody was made official today (July 11th) that Daniel Ricciardo will return to the sister RedBull team for the remainder of the 2023 season replacing Nyck DeVries after the F2 & Formula E champion failed to impress the seemingly unimpressible Dr Helmut Marko in the first 10 races.
On top of that we’ve got our usual round the houses look at the British Grand Prix that saw a McLaren on a Silverstone F1 podium for the first time since 2012. All the other tangents are there too and a bit of a teaser about an upcoming guest…

First off we want to start with a big announcement, we’d like to welcome Kieren Thomson to the team as a full member. He’s been helping us on out on the show over the last few weeks while Chris has been busy and Lee’s been doing Lee things in Tennessee (we don’t want to know what those things were, so use your imagination!) So he’ll be more than our summer intern now and we’ll have to make our own tea and it’s back to getting our own biscuits again!
Next up we’ve got about the only thing related to the Austrian Grand Prix that hasn’t had penalties applied to it, even though we’re pretty sure we crossed a couple of line while we we recording it. This week’s podcast looks back at another F1 race where the final result wasn’t actually known for about 3 hours after the chequered flag dropped. Which is a shame because we saw some decent racing at the RedBull ring this weekend, in both the sprint and the GP
Of course there’s a glut of tangents and massive amounts of conjecture, but it wouldn’t be us without it!

What a milestone weekend for RedBull, their 100th win as a team and the 200th win for an Adrian Newey designed car. Is there any stopping them in 2023? Probably not!
This week on the podcast we look back to the Canadian Grand Prix where the stewards were handing out gird penalties like sweets and Alex Albon made his Williams so wide that passing him on the track wasn’t going to be an option and Ferrari looked like they were going to shift a few t-shirts
As usual we go through the race team by team and throw a little mid-silly-season speculation into the mix for good measure

Well that was an unexpected hiatus for the show that we hadn’t planned on! But we’re back this week in a slightly cut down form because due to various other commitments and TT recovery Paul & Summer Intern Kieren get to talk tangents and general waffle and also somewhere in there preview the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend.
Also we take a look back at the 24 Hours of Le Mans that took place this weekend where long-time target Antonio Giovinazzi did a bit more than participate!
This is going to be the first show of a fluid summer line-up with holidays and personal commitments and the like, so you never know one of you could get a panicky call asking if you want to fill in!

So Miami then, another temporary street(ish) circuit, or more concrete blocks dumped in a car park? We knew that F1 was going to go for as much glitz & glamour as they could this weekend and it gave some a chilling premonition of how OTT Las Vegas is going to be when we go there in a few months time!
This week on the pod we look back at another dominant performance by RedBull, but for once they had to do some work after a Charles Leclerc crash in Q3 brought out the red flags with Max Verstappen in 9th place not having set a time. Cue an amazing recovery drive and some stunning laps on not the newest of hard tyres.
Needless to say we’ve had a few tangents saved up too in the time we’ve been away and we shoe-horn them in with our usual team by team review of the race.
Sorry for being a bit inconsistent lately, but we’re trying!

Another week and another controversy? Well not quite, but the Australian Grand Prix was certainly an event. From the start of the weekend it looked like this would be a different kind of race to the usual Melbourne procession, and boy did it deliver.
This week we look back at the weekend’s action from a race that brought out 4 red flags (one of them being after the finish) with a few more spectacular moments thrown in for good measure.
On the face of it a Max Verstappen win with Lewis Hamilton in 2nd seems like business as usual on paper but there’s a whole lot more to it than that as we do our usual team by team review along with enough tangents to keep us going until the next race in Baku in almost 4 weeks time

The tight, twisty and fast Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia has thrown up 2 races with big talking points since 2021 and for its 3rd running it didn’t let us down and we’ve got a load to talk about after this weekend. So much that we’ve had to get someone else in to help with the talking!
This week on the podcast we’re joined once again by VirtualStatMan Sean Kelly to fill us in on the details of the race as well as his interesting time since the end of the Bahrain Grand Prix 2 weeks ago.
There’s the usual team by team look back at the race and even though this was the circuit with the most corners on the calendar, we manage to make even more turns into some interesting tangents (as we always do when Sean’s with us)
Also we’ve got the return of an old favourite feature, Who’s A Total… Along with our next sim racing announcement for our 3rd iRacing anniversary

We’re ready for the 2nd race of this record breaking F1 season as the circus moves to the Jeddah Corniche street circuit this weekend, after 2 previous races there (even if Paul can’t remember both of them) that have thrown up on and off-track incidents are we going to get more of the same?
This week on the podcast we look forward to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and take a look at the goings on around F1 before the series gets to Europe when the main news happens. So very sorry Ferrari fans, there’s more on the turmoil surrounding the Marinello outfit (this is on the verge of becoming a weekly feature).
And as there’s not a great deal of F1 news we’ve got a ton of tangents & general ramblings too!

We’re up and running in Formula 1 for 2023 and I defy anyone to point out any differences at the front of the grid from last year. Go on, we can wait…
This week on the podcast we take a look at the Bahrain Grand Prix where on the face of it, it was business as usual for RedBull again with them picking up where they left off in 2022, but what’s that fast green car doing on the podium? Yep Aston Martin appear to be legitimately quick this year after being a little (a lot) disappointing in 2022 and we (mainly Lee) get to see Fernando Alonso on an F1 podium again and maybe he could become a regular fixture again this year? It’s Race Week (right we’ve got that out of the way now so we can continue) for the first time in 2023 with testing done, all the cars revealed in all their limited colour, carbon fibre shaded glory and we’re ready to go for the Bahrain Grand Prix at the start of this year’s 23 race F1 season
This week on the pod we’ve got a bit of a mixed bag as we look over what came out of the 3 days of the only pre-season test session and for once it doesn’t look like it’s going to be the same as last year with the possibility of a shakeup at the sharp end of the grid!
There’s our thoughts on what we’ve all managed to catch of Season 5 of Netflix’s Drive to Survive (think we’ve all done about half of it) and how they’ve kept their promise to be less of a drama this year and a bit more factual!
Also with is being the new season then of course there’s the launch of our new Prediction League with some new features for 2023, head over to the games section on the site to check it out and make your picks.

EnjoyTue, 28 Feb 2023 - 1h 04min - 509 - Episode 333 – Duck Season, Rabbit Season, Launch Season
We’re in the final stretch of the off-season and the 2023 Formula One World Championship is just around the corner. We just have to make do with all the pesky car launches and media events first.
This week on the podcast we look at what’s come out so far of the 7 teams that have launched their challengers (or at least renders of them) for the upcoming year and who is hopeful and who isn’t. We take a look at things like car weights and get upset at the amount of livery that’s been removed to trim the cars down to the bare minimum of legality and hope that we don’t get another season where all the cars look identical from certain angles.
There’s the usual batch of tangents too and a couple of announcements for things that we’re going to be doing this season. Tue, 14 Feb 2023 - 52min - 508 - Episode 332 – New Year, New(ish) F1, Same Old Us
Happy 2023 everyone. After a troubled year for us we’re back and race fit for 2023!
There’s loads to look forward to in the coming year for Formula One and this time we’ll get a full year of shows in, starting with this week where we look at the new line-ups on the grid, new cars and a new circuit. Of course with no racing for a few more weeks we’ve had to dip into our bag of tangents and you can rest assured we didn’t come up empty handed
There’s going to be some interesting inter-team battles all the way up the grid and we can’t wait, also with a 23 race calendar to look forward to we’ll have loads of opportunities to see how things play out.
Thanks for sticking with us last year when we we’re a little sporadic with the shows, bit we’ve got big plans for 2023 starting with Paul racing in the iRacing 24 hours of Daytona and you can follow his and the team’s progress live on Twitch and join the chat on Discord too, and you can keep in touch on Facebook & Twitter as always.

Just like Danny Ric walking back into the familiar surroundings of the RedBull HQ in Milton Keynes, we’ve returned to the podsphere after a little bit of a break, on the subject of which I can’t thank everyone that’s been in touch over the last couple of months anywhere near enough (Paul)
We missed the last 4 races of the 2022 season so this week we’ve done a bit of a free-form chat between the 4 of us on the current state of F1 and the 10 teams going into next season after a few weeks of post-season news when the dust has had time to settle. This isn’t a full season review as we’re going to cover that over December, but thin of this as a return to us spouting our usual gibberish and getting used to tangents again!
Thanks again to everyone for bearing with us during our enforced break and we promise to more than make up for it in 2023 (except next week as Paul & Sian are going away for a couple of days!)

This week we take a bit of a deep dive into a few off-track areas of F1, with an emphasis on the reports that came out last week that RedBull have exceeded the cost cap (according to the FIA, but not to the team) and wonder if there are any ways that this can be more strictly policed and monitored and wonder what the penalties are going to be. Needless to say as it’s mostly in accountancy speak, we haven’t got a clue what’s going on with it and how these things are even calculated.
When we finally get round to talking about things with cars that go fast, we get to look forward to this weekend’s United States Grand Prix where RedBull hope to wrap up the Constructor’s Championship on a circuit that will probably suit them more than any other team (a bit like most of the others this season)
Fans of tangents will love this show for certain!

Japan, home of the F1 fans with the best hats who aren’t afraid to spend all weekend in the stands in a race suit plus a helmet and also a place where championships are won. Well all these things happened this year, but not exactly how everyone thought and hoped they were going to go. For starters a lot of the crazy hats were under rain ponchos, just like the fans underneath them, and yes the championship was won (in dominant form by the now two time World Champ Max Verstappen) but scratch away the surface and it was a bit of a confusing Sunday to say the least.
This week on the podcast we take a look back at the Japanese Grand Prix which saw Max take his 2nd consecutive WDC in a rain-shortened race where seemingly only Johnny Herbert out of all the World’s media knew that full points were going to be awarded and the result meant that the Dutch driver had clinched the crown with 4 races still to go. Then there’s the whole tractor-gate saga along with just how long a race we had or were meant to have and it goes to show that the F1 rulebook as a few grey areas when it comes to interpretation, to put it mildly.
There’s our usual clump of tangents and Podcat appearances as well (it wouldn’t be complete without them) and now the silly season is drawing to a close there’s till a bit of conjecture about the 2 remaining seats on the 2023 grid (Williams and Haas being the only teams yet to confirm their lineups)

After 3 years F1 returned to the original home of the night race around the streets of Marina Bay in Singapore. And to welcome it back the weather decided to dump an entire marina’s worth of water on the circuit on Saturday & Sunday.
This week on the (returning, thanks to Paul’s diabetes struggles) podcast we look back at the first officially wet race to take place under the lights. One of those races where RedBull were completely ones and zeros from forgetting to put enough fuel in Max’s car in Q3 to Checo taking a well deserved lights to flag victory.
There’s a boatload (see what we did there) of our usual tangents and of course any podcast at this time of the year wouldn’t be complete without a healthy dose of silly season musings and speculation.
Sorry again for the unscheduled break over the last few weeks, but we’re all fighting fit and raring to go again for the climax of what’s proved to be an interesting season so far.

The Orange Army were certainly out in force at Zandvoort this weekend as Max Verstappen continues in his quest for a 2nd World Championship and with another win under his belt that is getting ever closer. Of course it goes a fair way to helping him out when Ferrari manage to shoot themselves in the foot yet again in a new way (for 2022 anyway) by not managing to get the required number of tyres out for a pit stop!
This week on the podcast we catch up with all the latest silly season news which has seen Oscar Piastri get confirmed for McLaren for nexxt year, Colton Herta take a step closer to an F1 seat (possibly) and the realisation that time and spaces are running out for Danny Ric to get on the grid in 2023.
There’s our usual review of the race as well and a special one-off quiz with another Yorkshire name too! Well that was an interesting summer break wasn’t it! Also look what happens when we go on holiday and record a show early, I’d love to say we’re not doing that again, but you know how our predictions usually go! So anyway, we’re back and so’s F1 as we move on to the Belgian Grand Prix .
This week on the podcast we take a look back at the 3 day mini silly season that all kicked off at the start of August and where it’s left us as far as the 2023 grid goes, and after all that there’s only 1 change that’s really been confirmed.

The Hungarian Grand Prix has become the traditional last race before the F1 Summer Break and as we’re past the half way point of the season we get a good idea of what teams need to do what to make the 2nd part better than the first. For some teams there’s not a lot that needs to be done, but for other (red) teams there’s a long list of areas to work on!
This week on the podcast we do our usual team by team review of the Budapest race which saw Max Verstappen start from 10th on the grid with a replaced power train, after an MGU-K failure ruined his qualifying, have a 360 moment on a slippery track with a faulty clutch and still take the top step of the podium, while Ferrari managed to strategize their way to another loss!
We also talk about the announcement last Thursday (an honorary Tuesday) that 4 time world champion and all-round good egg Sebastian Vettel will be retiring from F1 at the end of this season and where Aston Martin move onto from this. Also expect lots of Silly Season talk when we get back from our summer break in a couple of weeks time!

Have we seen the last of the French Grand Prix at the Paul Ricard Circuit? Everyone seems to think so if the current rumours are to be believed, and we’re pretty sure that Ferrari will be glad to see the back of racing at the “stripey test track” come 2023. In fact not having to go back there is probably causing their largest celebrations after this weekend’s showing.
This week on the podcast we look back at another race that Charles Leclerc seemingly had in the bag before he had yet another excursion into a barrier, gifting an almost effortless win to RedBull and Max Verstappen.
As usual there’s our team by team review of what went down on Sunday along with some late breaking Wednesday (yes we recorded late this week) news that Porsche are about to buy 50% of RedBull Technologies, including the F1 team (but not Alpha Tauri) and will be supplying the power trains from 2026 when the new regulations come into force. Along with a couple of other non-F1, but F1-adjacent stories that have caught our eye this week too.
There’s all the usual tangents and a preview of the Hungarian GP this week before F1 shuts down for its Summer break and also the return (for only the 2nd time) of our occasional quiz “Who the bloody hell’s that then”

Wed, 27 Jul 2022 - 1h 48min - 498 - Episode 323 – Ring On The Prancing Horses
After the British Grand Prix restored our faith in F1 we were waiting for the race at the RedBull Ring in Austria to bring us back down with a bump. We’re good at getting things wrong on this podcast and guess what? We did it again!
This week on a more packed out than usual podcast we look back at the Austrian Grand Prix where Charles Leclerc took his first win in a race where he didn’t start from pole position, while the other side of the Ferrari garage were literally picking up the pieces after Carlos Sainz suffered a spectacular engine blowout. And with all the other battles throughout the grid we ended up with our 2nd cracking race on the trot. Can France keep the streak going? We’ll see in 2 weeks!
But there’s more besides the F1 this week. We’ve got an interview with up and coming (Manx born) driver Cameron Hawes, who took part in the 1st race of the inaugural ERA Championship and only went and won it! You can see the race on YouTube

What.A.British.Grand.Prix.That.Was! That race had everything, from the drama at the start with Zhou Guanyu’s horrific crash and flip over the tyre barrier at turn 1, to wheel to wheel action at the end with drivers taking corners two and sometimes three wide.
This week on the podcast we talk though the British GP from Silverstone at the weekend which was the first time we’ve been able to see the 2022 cars running on a high speed track after their first round of upgrades and we came away stunned after one of the best races in recent years.
Who would have though at the start of the weekend that we’d get to see Carlos Sainz finally on the top step of the podium, Mercedes looking like they’re on an upswing from their early season woes and even Fernando Alonso looking like he’d rolled back the years and was pushing for a possible podium!
No point spoiling it all here, go and have a listen!

Race number 10 already, this season is going quicker than ever before and we’re on to Silverstone again for the British Grand Prix.
This week on the podcast we look forward to a British Grand Prix that, to be honest, is RedBull’s to lose and make up for last year’s DNF for Max Verstappen. We also take a look at a few of the stories going on round the grid in our own particular way with our thoughts on Sebastian Vettel’s potential new contract, upgrade for a few teams and a troubling situation for RedBull’s young drive Juri Vips amongst other things.
And as it’s a fairly quiet week news-wise expect a lot of our usual tangents this week as we veer away from F1 in more than a few places.

We’re back after our TT and Covid break, just as F1 is back in Canada after a couple of years away for 50% of those reasons and it was a decent enough return to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, or at least for some drivers anyway.
This week on the podcast we look back at the Canadian Grand Prix where RedBull once again showed that they have the fastest thing on track and can even outrun a speeding marmot. This of course meant it was Groundhog Day for the season with another win in the books for Max Verstappen
There’s the usual back to front review of the teams and our thoughts on the FIA getting involved in the porpoising debate that seems to be dragging on a lot longer than anyone thought it would back in Bahrain

Have we seen the last of the Monaco Grand Prix? It’s a question that’s been asked a lot this week as the tight, slow circuit is on the last year of its current deal and the current rumours are that F1 themselves wouldn’t be sad to see the back of it as it doesn’t make for great racing and there’s a few other issues with the organisation as well.
This week on the podcast we look back at one of the more action-packed races round the principality that we’ve seen in recent years where Ferrari looked nailed on to bring Charles Leclerc home in 1st until their strategy struck again and they managed to pull defeat from the jaws of victory after a rain delay, failed start system electronics on the grid and a pair of Canadians in the barriers before the race even started.
There’s the usual team by team review with the required tangents and this week there’s something of a TT flavour to things as well as the Isle of Man is full of bikes for the first time since 2019 (seems so long ago)

Back to Europe, back to what passes for sanity in F1 and back to Spain for the 2nd time this year when the times and pace do matter!
This week on the podcast we look back at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix which was a return to the first circuit where we got to see the original versions of the 2022 cars in all their non-rendered glory. Mercedes were coming into this weekend with a little more confidence than in previous races after a torrid start, by their own high standards, to this season and trying to keep tabs on the Ferrari’s & RedBulls ahead of them in the championships.
As always we have a vague stab at going through the result team by team and trying to pick out who impressed us and who got the “C- must try harder next time” out of the grid. Of course there’s the usual tangents and a cameo appearance by DizzyCat right at the end to assume her podcatly duties!

The debut of the Miami Grand Prix was hailed as the big showbiz event that F1 has been waiting for, especially since Chase Carey promised us “23 SuperBowls a year” and while it certainly seems to have delivered on the celebrity factor (sans Pitbull!) did it deliver where it matters on the track?
This week we look back at the race where Max Verstappen carried on his streak of winning every race he’s finished in 2022 and where Mercedes hoped to counter the porpoising problems and also get a bit of their pace back. There’s our usual back to front review, but as the finishing order is mixed up this season, thanks to closer racing (at last) we sort of struggled to do it in our usual team by team order.
Of course it wouldn’t be one of our podcasts without tangents and cat invasions and you’ll be glad to hear that there’s plenty of those throughout as well!

So Miami then. We’ve not had a car turn a wheel and there’s people up in arms about the fake marina and beach club in one of the turns. TBH all we’re bothered about if this is going to be a decent race if we’ve got it on the calendar for the next 10 years!
This week on the podcast we preview the first Grand Prix of Miami which is held at a temporary circuit round a sports stadium (anyone getting Sochi fear from this yet?) along with the worst kept secret in F1 that Porsche & Audi will be making appearances on the grid in one form or another in 2026 when the new engine regs come in.
There’s also a healthy does of the usual tangents and we officially launch the 2022 silly season with the rumours that there’s going to be a mid-season driver swap, so expect a LOT of conjecture round that!

So we’ve had our first sprint race of the season and you could say it went pretty well for Red Bull and Max Verstappen in particular after his grand slam weekend of pole (and starting the race from first), fastest lap and a pair of wins over the weekend.
This week on the podcast we take a look back at the cumbersomely titled F1 Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna (or Imola GP to its friends) that saw Max eat into the lead of Charles Leclerc after a weekend for the Ferrari team that in all honesty could have gone a whole lot better. There’s our usual team by team review of the races (still can’t get used to typing raceS instead of race) and a few thoughts on what the future of Mercedes is going to be now that they seem to be struggling and we’re 4 races into the 2022 season.
There’s a healthy dose of tangents as well for good measure just to pad out this week’s show to an hour and three quarters!

Sorry for missing last week as the ‘rona made its way into 3Legs Towers and knocked Paul for if not 6, then at least 5 and we couldn’t get Nico Hulkenberg to be our last minute sub, even though we tried to bribe him with 3L4W t-shirt (size S, worn once)
This week on the podcast, not only are we back to full strength, but we’re joined by Kieren Thomson from Vectis Radio who you’ve probably seen us re-tweeting quite a bit as his dad has a “thing” about F2 driver Liam Lawson’s “Special Skills”. Also we did a Patreon show tonight about pop music and he was the best person to referee and as eh knows quite a bit about F1 we invited him to stay on for the main show too!
There’s a round up of the bits of news that have come out ahead of this week’s Australian Grand Prix and with an extra person on the team tonight it means that we could go off on 20% more tangents then ever before!
This week also marks the debut of a new occasional quiz called “Who the bloody hell’s that then?” which is in no way influenced by any quiz that we’ve done before that Lee flatly refuses to do anymore of!

F1 is back officially, the 2022 season (with the 2021 rules) is finally here and with a race like we got this weekend, it was worth the wait.
This week on the podcast we get to do our 1st race review of the new season as we look back on the Bahrain Grand Prix, which saw Ferrari return to the top step of the podium for the 1st time since Singapore 2019 and making it a 1-2 for good measure.
Obviously this was partially down to the issues that RedBull faced in the race, but you can’t take anything away from their performance on the day.
In our usual style we look back at all 10 teams and try to work out who has the most work to do to make something of this season and who ha(a)s made the made the most of the development time on the new cars & regulations.

As is now traditional this week of every year we get the double hit of pre-season testing (not a shakedown) and Drive To Survive, so in our own way we’ve done a bit of a mash-up and ended up talking about both at the same time!
This week on the pod we look at who came out of testing well and who was edited the best on what is now the biggest F1 drama since Jacques Villeneuve released Private Paradise.
As per usual we go through it team by team, in some ways and bounce around all 10 episodes that Netflix dropped last weekend and try to make sense of everything at once!
Also as we’re only days away from the start of the new season there’s the launch of the 2022 Prediction League And also a new season of the returning Formula Lee with the first race being at Bahrain in a Williams.

The Shakedown (not a test) is over and the cars are heading out to Bahrain for not only the actual pre-season test (not a shakedown) but also the 1st race of the 2022 season with the new cars running under the new regulations.
So who better than this week’s special guest Craig Scarborough to talk us through what the new regulations have brought to the grid for the upcoming season.
We talk about the new aero packages that are mandated for the season and the individual ways that the teams have acted on them to make sure that everyone’s fear that the 2022 cars don’t all look like they came from the same production line!
There’s the usual tangents and wild conjecture as well and we got to do some Monday news for once!

After a couple of false alarms (we’re looking at you Haas & RedBull) we finally got to see some real life cars in the last week with the McLaren & Aston Martin launches, and don’t they look good.
This week on the show we try and pour over what the teams have chosen to show us ahead of the upcoming shakedown and testing sessions as we see how various teams have chosen to interpret the long awaited 2022 regulations.
There’s also our thoughts on how F1 have managed to mess around with sprint races again and manage to make 2 qualifying sessions fit into one race weekend, along with the other new rules that have been brought in with just over a month before the season starts.

A slightly belated Happy New Year from all of us on the podcast.
We did plan on doing a season review, but how do you easily sum up a year like 2021? Simple answer is “you don’t”
So we didn’t
Instead we’re back for the new year and the new regulations with an hour’s worth of ramblings on various hints of F1 news that’s come out since the tumultuous end to last season and a good helping of tangents too.

There were so many names we could have given this week’s podcast given the controversial nature of the 2021 season finale in Abu Dhabi this past weekend. But we’ve decided to err on the side of caution and not make any references to spineless creatures like jellyfish or any title with an asterisk next to it.
So the 2021 season is in the books and RedBull’s Max Verstappen has finally got his hands on the World Driver’s Championship (correct at time of going to press at least) after a race that will probably go down as the most controversial end to a Grand Prix that we’ve seen in all the years of F1. This week the 4 of us try and make some sense out of what happened leading up to and including the las 5 laps at Yas Marina where race control did something with the rules to ensure that the race (and the season) didn’t finish behind a safety car and the fallout that’s come from it all.
We try to go team by team this week, but there was really only 2 teams in it, so much so that nobody noticed Carlos Sainz sneaking into 3rd place until the race had been over for about 10 minutes along with a few of the usual tangents to try and keep our spirits up in the knowledge that F1 is done until next year of course we had to chuck in a Total Shunt from someone whose name Lee was never going to get right so it was left to Paul to make a complete garbled mess of it as well.
Thanks for all your support this year and we’ll be back in a couple of weeks for a season review. But in the meantime check out our Discord server where you can sign up for our iRacing league as well as joining in with all the chat on there and you can keep in touch on Facebook & Twitter as always.

Are any of us sure what we watched at the weekend? In all the years of F1 I don’t think any of us have seen a race quite like the first ever Saudi Arabian Grand Prix from the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. Max & Lewis came out of the penultimate race of the season level on points but with even more tension between them after various off-tracks and brake tests.
Luckily for us this week we’ve got help from VirtualStatMan Sean Kelly in sorting through one of the most chaotic races ever in one of the best ever Formula 1 seasons we’ve had. There’s an attempt at the team by team review but lets face it, the main talking point is the Max v Lewis battle for the World Driver’s Championship that hit new levels of attrition and controversy as we head to Abu Dhabi for the season ending decider.
There’s all the other usual stuff as well with a few tangents and as Sean’s with us, an extra Who’s A Total Shunt for good measure. Thanks as always for your support and once again, apologies for missing last week while Sian & Paul settle in to the new 3Legs towers!

Another Grand Prix and another aero related controversy. This time it was all over the question about some suspect markings on the Mercedes rear wings. Once again the battle between the 2 main antagonists (not the drivers) threatened to overshadow the debut of the Qatar Grand Prix. We needed to look at what’s been going on in a bit more depth, so once again this week we’re joined by our resident technical expert Craig Scarborough
This week on the podcast we do our usual look back the the most recent race from the back to the front, but with more of a technical slant as Scarbs takes us through how the teams have developed their cars this season (except Haas, who haven’t) and how things are looking for their prospects for next year.
Bit of a cut down team as well as being a couple of days late this week thanks to work and illness, but after a this weekend’s race we really had to talk about all the F1 issues at the moment ahead of the end of season showdowns in Saudi Arabia & Abu Dhabi next month. Also as we didn’t have chance to do a shunt this week, there’s a competition with an actual prize and you can win a copy of Maurice Hamilton’s new book Murray Walker: Incredible! Well that was a weekend in Brazil that will be talked about for a long time to come and may not be all sorted yet as the pod comes out. The newly renamed Sao Paolo City Grand Prix had it all from Friday qualifying with added wing poking, disqualifications, recovery drives up and down the grid and a win that nobody expected on Saturday morning, or possibly Friday for that matter.
This week on the podcast we have a go at unpicking all the events of the last race to feature a sprint in 2021, along with the last race on a circuit or configuration that the teams have actual race experience of too. There’s the usual team by team review along with a load of discussion about the major talking points of the weekend along with trying to shoehorn the news that was available at the time in there. This was all recorded before the Tuesday news of Mercedes requesting a review of the turn 4 incident and Alfa Romeo confirming Guanyu Zhou this morning as well!

Another race back on the calendar after the madness that was 2020 is the Mexico City Grand Prix (formerly known as the Mexico Grand Prix.) With a new name to reflect that it’s the city rather than the country that’s putting the funding behind it, it’s still at the same circuit and is still going to be a challenge as it’s the highest altitude race of the year (we think.)
This week on the podcast we take a look at what we think might play out in the Mexican capital where engine power has notoriously been reduced previously due to the thin atmosphere, although the lack of atmosphere is only in the air and not around the circuit as the event itself is always pretty spectacular.
There’s a load of tangents and bits of news thrown in for good measure too and a very very dubious Who’s A Total Shunt.

The US Grand Prix is always a major spectacle and this year was no exception as the organisers of the Austin race went all out to make up for missing out on a race in 2020 (damn you Covid.) With all the spectacle and general “American-ness” you can cram into a weekend that you would expect and they certainly didn’t disappoint when it came to the bits that mattered on track as well as all the extras (not sure about the Neil Diamond tribute act and Kool and some of the original Gang though)
This week on the podcast we do our usual team by team review of this weekend’s race where RedBull once again showed that they are more than prepared to not only take the fight to Mercedes, but beat them at their own game by out-strategizing them when it came to the udercut.

First I want to say a massive thanks to everyone (literally hundreds of you) that got in touch after my message last week and the best way I could think of to say thank you was to get a podcast recorded with a US Grand Prix preview, so that’s what we did (Paul)
This week on the podcast, as well as previewing the upcoming race at COTA we take a look through the newly released 2022 calendar with F1’s third attempt at getting a 23 race season in, along with our thoughts on the potential takeover of Sauber/Alfa Romeo by Andretti racing and the rumours (since officially denied) that Petronas are about to pull out of their sponsorship deal with Mercedes. There’s also the return of Formula Lee this week for the F1 2021 game!
There’s a lack of Chris on the show this week, but as a little extra we’ve tacked on a bonus at the end of the show from a month ago when he was trying to electrocute himself. Patreon subscribers my have already heard this, but it’s worth another listen!

Sorry we’ve been away for a couple of weeks and missed the aftermath of the Russian Grand Prix, we’re still upset about the whole thing over a week later and it’s taken that long to compose ourselves enough to even think about F1 after what happened to Lando Norris in the last few laps in Sochi.
But we are back with a roundup of things that have happened both to us and also in the wired world of Formula 1 since our last show and looking forward too to whatever the rest of the 2021 season is going to look like. Although you might notice in this show the technical gremlins with Chris’s internet and PC and just about everything else showed up again, but we wanted to get this out as quickly as we could and to be honest we all think he rode it out quite well!

This weekend’s Italian Grand Prix broke a few losing streaks, we got to see the first McLaren win since 2012, the first 1-2 by the papaya team since 2010 and the first Daniel Ricciardo winning shoey since 2018. All in all it was a good race for the Woking outfit. For Mercedes & RedBull, not quite as much.
This week on the podcast we’re joined by VirtualStatMan, Sean Kelly to go through an event packed Monza race where the heated title battle between Lewis Hamilton & Max Verstappen went up a few dozen degrees with both of them ending up in the gravel after another coming together.
We do the usual thing of breaking the race down team by team and there’s a lot of discussion on the crash that took both of the title contenders out of the race. Bit praise where it’s due there was also the recovery drive from Valtteri Bottas after his Sunday engine penalty, more points for George Russell & Williams and of course that McLaren 1st & 2nd.

The return of the Dutch Grand Prix finally happened a year late thanks to the turmoil of 2020 and that was an atmosphere worth waiting for. We all knew beforehand that the circuit would be decked out almost exclusively in orange and full of fervent Max Verstappen fans, but we weren’t expecting them to be this wild!
This week on the podcast we look back at the return of F1 to Zandvoort for the first time since Nikki Lauda won the 1986 race along with taking a look at the latest domino to fall in the 2021 Silly Season with the Monday News (I know, right!) that Valtteri Bottas is leaving Mercedes after 5 one-year contracts for the multi-year deal he’s wanted for ages, but he’ll be driving an Alfa Romeo next season (as one Finn leaves etc) and at time of recording on Monday night, we haven’t had confirmation of who’s going to be replacing him but we all know who it’s going to be.
There’s a few wild tangents as well, so apologies if the race review takes a while as we got sidetracked plus there’s Who’s A Total Shunt from the reserve list after Lee had a couple of technical problems.
Thanks as always for all your support for these last 299 shows and we actually can’t believe that we’re recording episode 300 next week!

By now the dust and spray has settled on what has been called a farce of a Belgian Grand Prix and with the benefit of a good night’s sleep and a chance to calm down a bit we pick over the remains of an even that we hope we’ll never see the likes of again.
This week on the podcast we try to make some sense of the decisions that left this weekend’s race in complete disarray where it was still counted as an official race, even though the entirety of Sunday’s on track action was 2 formation laps and 2 green flag laps behind the safety car, leaving the (half) points to be given out based on positions at the end of Q3, less a penalty for Bottas from Hungary and a will he/won’t he race situation for Perez after his trip into the tyre barrier on the way to the grid. Hard to do rockstars and wankers in full this week, but we have a good go at it though (Especially because FOTP George Russell got his 1st ever F1 podium.)
There’s the usual other tangents though with a look at the news, now that the Silly Season is starting to show its face and of course we had to get a Who’s A Total Shunt in this week, just to lighten the mood a bit.

Fresh off the back of the British Grand Prix controversy, all we needed was for things to get back to normal before the F1 summer break right? Well we didn’t get that did we! 6 cars out before we knew what was happening, Lewis Hamilton taking a restart on his own (shades of USA 2005 anyone), Fernando Alonso rolling back the years on his 40th birthday weekend, Williams back in the points and Alpine getting their first win as a constructor and first win for any Enstone team since Kimi at the 2013 Australian Grand Prix!
This week on the podcast we try to unravel as much as we can from a surprising Hungarian Grand Prix, which ended up with Estaban Ocon on the top step of the podium for the first time in any race since his days in GP3 6 years ago and another bad race for RedBull, but at least they managed to get one car in the points this week. There’s the usual team by team review with Rockstars (many) & Wankers (don’t have to work out too hard who they are) There’s the usual tangents and maybe some Manx politics and of course a Who’s A Total Shunt

I think we can safely say that was a British Grand Prix like no other before it. Qualifying on Friday evening, the first ever F1 Sprint (don’t call it a) race on Saturday afternoon and the inevitable coming together between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen on lap 1 on Sunday. Yep we’ve not seen the likes of this before and may not again (or we may, you know how good our predictions are).
This week on the podcast we take a detailed look at what has ended up being one of the most divisive moments in F1 in recent times and also the most toxic on social media, but we’re not getting involved in that one. There’s the usual full team by team look at the race, although and we get to talk about RedBull first for once!

Formula 1 is the only real thing that is 100% guaranteed to come home every year, only by dint of the fact that the 1st world championship race was at Silverstone, so we can count that as a “homecoming”
This week on the podcast we preview this weekend’s British Grand Prix which also includes the 1st ever sprint qualifying race on Saturday, with a qualifying session for that (qualy qualy?) on Friday evening, conveniently after work for anyone in Europe. There’s the usual pile of tangents as well, although we saved some of those for our subscribers only Patreon show (making its comeback after a year off)
Talking of comebacks Chris is back with us again after a couple of weeks off, so you’ll get the thoughts of all 4 of us on the latest news and rumours (mainly about George Russell) flying round the paddock this week.

Just like last year, Austria gave us a better race than Styria for some reason, although Mercedes probably wouldn’t agree after another dominant race for Max Verstappen (he got the grand slam of win, pole position, fastest lap and every lap led). With the Silver Arrows coming home 2nd & 4th respectively.
This week on the podcast we take a look back at the Austrian Grand Prix, which like 2020 was part of a double-header at the RedBull ring, which nearly gave us George Russell’s first points in a Williams (even Fernando was sad about overtaking him for 10th) and an absolute bucket-load of penalties. There’s a look at the main news stories as well with Lewis signing a new 2 year deal at Mercedes and speculation about who’s going to be in the other car in the team next season (every season is silly season for us).
Just as we published this, the announcement about the Australian Grand Prix being cancelled came out, so Tuesday news strikes again! Also we’ve got the return of Who’s A Total Shunt this week and I can safely say we enjoyed this one!

We’re 2 races into the 1st of 3 (correct at time of going to press) triple-headers this season and they’ve both had something in common, no it wasn’t the fact that the Styrian GP was a bit of a parade, because France wasn’t. Nope, it was another win for RedBull and Max Verstappen. That takes Max to 4 wins this season out of 8 races and RedBull to 5 when you add Checo Perez’s victory in the carnage that was Baku.
This week on the podcast we look back at the Styrian GP that promised so much (rain) and didn’t really deliver (any rain) but did give us another glimpse into home much RedBull have improved over Mercedes this year. There’s our usual team by team review (Charles Leclerc fans look away now) and a roundup of the latest news, including the return of Turkey and the return of fans to Silverstone!
There’s the usual tangents as well, but no shunt this week as Lee doesn’t have any and the reserve list has run bare as well (so get them sent in!)

Nobody saw that coming did they, an action packed French Grand Prix with racing all the way up and down the grid and RedBull out-Mercedesing Mercedes to take the win as well.
This week on a slightly late podcast (bloody real life happening again) we take a look back at the events of last weekend at the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet France, which has usually been the home of dull and processional “racing” up to now. There’s also a brief look at this week’s F1 news stories and we look forward to the 1st of 2 consecutive races at the RedBull Ring in Styria/Austria (delete depending on which Grand Prix it is)
There’s the usual tangents of course, but sadly a lack of an under the weather Chris this week, but I’m sure the 3 of us will keep you entertained as always.

Well that made up for Monaco didn’t it! This year’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix had it all; red flags, cars out of position, blocking & passing and that was just Saturday’s qualifying session!
This week on the podcast we look back at an action packed race around the streets of Baku where the 2 contenders for the Driver’s title both failed to score points for separate reasons and we had a podium entirely consisting of drivers that had been effectively sacked by their previous teams.
There’s a whole load of tangents to go off on as well including, but not limited to the relative ages of walls, “boxing” and who knows what else!

The saying goes that good things come to those who wait and this week it’s not 100% true as we’re 2 days later than normal thanks to that good old excuse of real life getting in the way!
This week on the podcast we preview the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which is back on the calendar now that the world is starting to get some semblance of normality again (even though we’ve got a triple header involving France to get through soon). There’s also a few news stories of the week involving teams, drivers and engine specialists and a whole load of tangents too

So the Monaco Grand Prix then, the annual parade (don’t we say this every year?) This time at least there was a bit of drama with 2 of the top 3 qualifiers not making it to the end this time and we got to see Max Verstappen winning and both of the 2020 McLaren drivers on the podium, but sadly for the resurgent Woking outfit, one of them is in red and not papaya this time round.
Also on this week’s podcast we attempt to pay our respects to the unique character that was Max Mosely in a way that hopefully won’t get us in any legal bother, along with a round up of the other F1 news and a bit of a look forward to this weekend’s Indy 500

It’s Monaco week and we hope that the McLaren Gulf livery reveal isn’t the most exciting thing to come out of this weekend’s race, but as it’s the Monaco Grand Prix, we’re not holding our breath!
This week on the podcast we look forward to the annual parade round the streets of the Principality, where for once there’s no arguments about track limits and there’s walls instead of (usually optional) white liines.
We also talk IndyCar, in particular Romain Grosjean’s performance at the Indy Road Course this weekend where he achieved what he always said he was capable of if the car was half decent. There’s a look at the rearranged F1 Calendar with the addition of another Styrian GP at the expense of Turkey and a few thoughts on what other races could be under threat this year as countries are still dealing with the ongoing s**tstorm that is Covid.

A bit of a rarity for once, we had a Spanish Grand Prix that wasn’t a flag to flag parade, we got to see both strategy and on-track overtakes, something that we’ve not had too much of for the last few years at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya
This week on the podcast we do our usual team by team review of the weekend’s race from the usual suspects at the back, to the usual suspects at the front (at least that was predictable)
Of course there’s our usual tangents going off, as it wouldn’t be a 3L4W podcast without them and also what would appear to be a first in this week’s Total Shunt… And while you’re online, check out our Discord server where you can sign up for our iRacing league as well as joining in with all the chat on there and you can keep in touch on Facebook & Twitter as always. This year’s Portuguese Grand Prix threw up what some said wasn’t a thriller of a race, but there were still a few talking points to come out of the weekend’s race at a circuit we didn’t think would be on the calendar again after last year’s emergency addition.
This week on the podcast we do our usual team by team review of a race where we thought we’d find out if RedBull had the upper hand on Mercedes after Max Verstappen took the honours in Imola last time out and would Valtteri Bottas show some bouncebackability after his last race ended in controversy and gravel.
All this and the usual tangents, diversions, trivia and Chris’ shoddy internet. And of course the ever tricky Who’s A Total Shunt. You’ll have to wait until the end of the show to find out what this week’s title means though! This week we take a look at the news that F1 sprint races on a Saturday will actually be a thing 3 times this season and already we’re trying to make them better! Along with that we look at the other news around F1 this week.
Also on the show we preview the upcoming Portuguese Grand Prix at the Algarve Circuit in Portimao, which has now been an extra addition to the F1 calendar for 2 consecutive seasons and will hopefully produce as good a race as last year’s did.

We might have had a 3 week gap between races, but Sunday at Imola certainly made up for it. Safety Cars, red flags, on track passing and a great slab of post-race controversy after George Russell’s comments on his crash with Valtteri Bottas.
This week on the podcast we look back at an action packed, wet & dry (insert all the names of it here) Imola race where RedBull looked like they’re in the right position to take it to Mercedes this season, Ferrari showed a return to some levels of pace, Lando Norris got himself on the podium and Checo Perez could have been both Rockstar and W**ker in the course of 2 days!
There’s all the other stuff as well with our thoughts on the new Miami GP circuit and we try and make sense of whatever is going on with the Canadian GP at the moment. A 2 week break would have been unthinkable last season when we had more triple headers than you could shake a 2 metre long socially distanced stick at, but F1 have given us a bit of a break between races to start this year and also not a lot to talk about for the last fortnight, hence the 2 week break between shows!
We’re back this week though with a roundup of some of the big F1 stories that have come out in the last fortnight and a preview of this weekend’s rac, with possibly the longest title ever in F1 “The Pirelli Gran Premio Del Made In Italy E Dell’emilia Romagna 2021” aka Imola!
As it’s only the 2nd race of the season and last time out was a bit of a 2 team battle, we’re not 100% sure which way his one’s going to go and that’s probably a good thing with Mercedes not being as strong as we were expecting and RedBull being quicker than we thought. Either way we’ve got some decent track action to look forward to so that we can really get the 2021 season going.

What a way to open another F1 season! We got to see battles all the way down the grid and one of the tightest finishes we’ve had in ages. To quote Gladiator “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?”
This week on the podcast we had that much on-track action to go through we needed some extra help from people who know how to race, so we’re joined by 2 actual real-life drivers! From W-Series (which is supporting F1 at 8 races this season) we have Alice Powell and from British F4 we have title challenger Abbi Pulling, otherwise known as Team AP
Between us we go through all the events of an action packed Bahrain Grand Prix (the 3rd one since December) where Mercedes came out on top again, but it wasn’t plain sailing and there might even be a chance of seeing a competition between 2 (or more) teams this year. Also Alice & Abbi also take us through their plans for the 2021 season in their classes and give us a bit of insight into what it’s like being a racing driver and loads more too

Pre-season is all done and we get down to business for the 2021 F1 season this weekend with the opening race back at the Sakhir Circuit in Bahrain. This means that for the first time ever, 3 out of the last 4 races (and a pre-season test for good measure) will have been held at the same circuit.
An F1 fact like that could only possibly come from one person and he’s with us on this week’s show. It wouldn’t be the start of an F1 season without the presence of VirtualStatMan Sean Kelly would it? And he’s joined us on the podcast this week to run through the grid and how we all think the 2021 season will shake out.
In a massive 2 1/2 hour show this week there’s also room for some of the funniest tangents that we think we’ve ever gone off on, if the title of this week’s show doesn’t give you any clues on what to expect!

After a shortened pre-season test this year where we only got 3 days of running instead of the usual 6, there’s still a lot of questions over this year’s cars and who better to answer them all for us than our favourite technical expert Craig Scarborough?
This week on the pod, Scarbs joins us to talk through what we saw over a testing weekend that proved difficult for Mercedes and Aston Martin and showed that anything with a Honda engine in the back might be a bit quick. There’s a look at all 10 teams and what new developments they’ve brought in what’s going to be an unusual season ahead of the new regulations that come in, a year later than planned in 2022

Not 6 members on the team, or even 6 podcats, but we’ve now been doing this podcast for 6 years!
When we did our 1st show in 2015 we were excited by the prospect of Fernando Alonso racing in a McLaren with a Honda power unit and now we’re looking forward to him coming back from retirement for his 3rd stint at Enstone with another new name for the team as well!
This week on a special Isle-of-Man-is-in-lockdown-again-pod we take a look at the new liveries, names and line-ups that make up the 2021 grid and try and 2nd guess ourselves on how they’ll perform before pre-season testing gets under way this weekend.

After about a year of speculation. although it seems like longer, Lewis Hamilton has put pen to paper on a new contract. This week on the podcast we talk about the future for the 7 time world champion and where Mercedes go from here, along with talk of a new team from Monaco that wants to join the grid next year and a round up of some other news that’s about as the teams get everything in order for the delayed start to the season and the moved pre-season practice.
Also this week, instead of the full total shunt special, we’ve got a triple shunt with a twist as we made Lee take part in answering them instead of reading the questions and it went about as well as you’d expect for him.
There’s the usual load of tangents as too and maybe something extra that you might recognise from just over a year ago. And don’t forget that you can still join our Discord server where you can sign up for our iRacing league as well as joining in with all the chat on there and you can keep in touch on Facebook & Twitter as always.

We’re back! After our Christmas & New Year’s break we thought it was about time to inflict ourselves on you again with more vaguely F1 related nonsense!
This week on the 1st podcast of 2021 we take a look at all the stories that have cropped up around the grid since the end of what was probably the strangest season we’ve ever seen and are likely to see in Formula 1 (“hold my beer” – 2021). There’s new team names to confuse Lee, new drivers on the grid, including that new promising young lad Alonso and some changes at the very top with Stefano Domenicali (Steven Sunday) taking over as CEO of F1 the company.
Sorry for not getting the Shunt Special done over Christmas, but we’re putting it together for next week along with a live reaction show to the McLaren launch, which while it isn’t on a Tuesday, it’s still on a Monday night while we’re recording. Also for everyone that’s been asking, Formula Lee will be coming back soon as well
There’s the usual load of tangents as well as we’ve been all stuck in hibernation for the last 6 weeks, so we’ve all got a lot to get off our collective chests. And even though there’s no F1 until March you can still join our Discord server where you can sign up for our iRacing league as well as joining in with all the chat on there and you can keep in touch on Facebook & Twitter as always.

Tue, 02 Feb 2021 - 1h 38min - 450 - Episode 276 – Did Anyone Stay Awake To The End?
After a unique season, the likes of which we’ve never seen before and hopefully we’ll never see again. 2020 finished for Formula 1 with a bit of a parade round the Yas Marna Circuit in Abu Dhabi. So how do we review this? We kind of gloss over it and instead we’re joined on the show this week by Sean Kelly (@virtualstatman) to go through the grid and look at some of the performances in this massively compressed year of 17 races in just over 7 months!
Sean as always throws up a few facts and figures that you may have missed this season, including one of the most surprising ones ever about this year’s Ferrari results, and loads more as we look at the positives and negatives up and down the grid and we can already start looking forward to 2021 (just over 3 months to go until the new season starts!)
There’s all the usual stuff as well including a Who’s A Total Shunt that we didn’t expect to end the way it did.. And also check how you did on the Prediction League for this season. Even though there’s no F1 over the winter, you can still join our Discord server where you can sign up for our iRacing league as well as joining in with all the chat on there and you can keep in touch on Facebook & Twitter as always.
Don’t forget to put your thinking caps on for the Shunt Special over Christmas as well

He’s finally done it, after 190 starts from 194 race weekend Checo Perez has finally made it to the top step of the podium after safety cars, pit stop dramas for Mercedes (Netflix were with George Russell apparently), 1st lap incidents and 2 drivers making their F1 debuts in what is going to go down in history as the most unusual Formula 1 season ever (please let us get back to some kind of normal in 2021)
This week on the podcast we look at the first (and possibly only) Sakhir Grand Prix around a circuit that we thought was going to be a bit on the dull side which we christened the “Squoval” for claiming to have 11 corners, but really only 4. The action started last week when Lewis Hamilton was confirmed as having tested positive for Covid 19 and needed to be replaced along with Romain Grosjean, whose injuries from the crash at the previous race left him unable to take part this weekend (and also at what would be his farewell race in Abu Dhabi next weekend too unfortunately) And the week just went on from there, with Williams Drive and friend of the podcast George Russell subbing in for Lewis, Jack Aitken moving up from the Campos F2 team to take the vacant Williams seat and Pietro Fittipaldi taking over for Romain. While all this was going on, the fact that Haas announced they’re running an all-rookie line-up of Mick Schumacher and Nikita Marzipan (that’s what he’s going to be called now) driving for the US Flat Pack team in 2021.
Come Friday, we saw the actual pace of only the 5th driver to race for Mercedes since they re-joined the grid in 2010 and thought we could be in for something special. Well we know what came next on Saturday and Sunday, but there’s no point putting all that here when you can listen to our thoughts on it on this week’s show!
Once again there was that much going on we didn’t have time to fit a Total Shunt in, but we’ve come up with idea to do an all-shunt show over Christmas, so get some questions sent in for that and we’ll see you on the socials like Discord, where you can sign up for our iRacing league join in the chat during the races and practice/qualifying sessions along with during the week as well and Facebook & Twitter as always.

We didn’t do a show last week as there was very little to discuss, but Sunday’s race in Bahrain more than made up for that. This week we’re joined by Technical Guru Craig Scarborough (@ScarbsTech) to take us through the events of Romain Grosjean’s horrific looking crash on the opening lap of the race and the safety improvements that we’ve seen in F1 over the recent years that meant he was able to walk away from it. Then there’s the question of the race to look at which nearly gave Sergio Perez his first consecutive podium appearance, which was ruined for him in the closing stages by the rare event of problems with the Mercedes engine.
Also with this morning’s news that Lewis Hamilton has tested positive for Covid-19 (get well soon champ) and Nikita Mazepin (Marzipan?) has singed for Haas for 2021, we though it was only right put in a jumpcut, which this week, we’ve just tacked on to the start of the show. Sorry about the audio quality
on that bit, but as you can probably guess we were a bit rushed today! There would have been predictions this week too, but for obvious reasons we’re having a re-think on those, so we’ll put them on the site later in the week, but you can still enter or change yours on our league page
As there was so much to talk through tonight we didn’t have time for a Total Shunt, but there’s plans for something over Christmas for that, and don’t forget our Discord server where you can sign up for our iRacing league join in the chat during the races and practice/qualifying sessions along with during the week as well and of course you can keep in touch on Facebook & Twitter as always.

What a way to seal a World Championship! After an amazing drive and some of the best tyre management in some of the trickiest conditions we’ve seen Lewis Hamilton took the win in the first Turkish Grand Prix since 2011 and with it put an insurmountable gap between himself and rest of the field to seal the World Driver’s Championship for the 7th time.
This week on the podcast we look back at an incident packed Turkish Grand Prix at a rainy and slippery Istanbul Park Circuit, where we saw Lance Stroll take the 1st pole position of his career and the first for Racing Point in their current incarnation, a return to the podium for the soon to be without a drive, Sergio Perez (someone needs to sign him up for 2021) and more spins for Valtteri Bottas in one race than he’s had for the last couple of seasons (this may or may not be a real stat!)
Of course, there’s all the usual stuff on the show as too (although we’re sorry we didn’t have time to record a Patreon show this week) and a Who’s A Total Shunt. Don’t forget our Discord server where you can sign up for our iRacing league join in the chat during the races and practice/qualifying sessions along with during the week as well and of course you can keep in touch on Facebook & Twitter as always .

Another return to a track from F1’s recent history is coming this week as the circus returns to the Istanbul Park circuit in Turkey, location of the notorious RedBull coming together that spelled the end of any cordial relationship between Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber back in 2010. F1 has a fairly brief history at the Turkish circuit, hosting races there from 2005 to 2011 with Felipe Massa being the most successful driver with 3 victories at the Herman Tilke designed circuit.
This week on the podcast we look forward to F1’s return to the circuit along with a look at a couple of the news stories that have cropped up during a rare week off for the teams. There’s also our thoughts on being a little burnt out by the races coming thick and fast this year as F1 tries to put on a calendar around the Covid-19 pandemic. There’s also our thoughts on the announcement of the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which seems to fly in the face of F1’s We Race As One campaign that’s been running all season.
There’s all the usual tangents on the show as well with a live interruption from Paul’s mum of the kind that usually ends up on the Patreon show and a Who’s A Total Shunt. …The formula for yet another season of Mercedes dominance. This weekend at F1’s return to Imola, the Silver Arrows clinched their 7th consecutive World Constructor’s Championship and also sealed the World Driver’s Championship for either Lewis Hamilton or Valtteri Bottas, giving them their 7th WDC in a row as well.
This week on the podcast we look back at the first race at the Monza circuit for 14 years, where we saw a surprising performance from Alpha Tauri, almost got to see George Russell trouble the scorers for the first time in his career and prior to the race got to find out more about what the 2021 grid is going to look like.
There’s a round up of news from the last couple of weeks (sorry for the unexpected week off last week) as well and all the usual tangents with a very hastily arranged Who’s A Total Shunt after Lee’s internet died on him and it became Where’s A Total Shunt? Don’t forget our Discord server where you can sign up for our iRacing league, join in the chat during the races and practice/qualifying sessions along with during the week as well and of course you can keep in touch on Facebook & Twitter as always .

Sorry we’re a few days late with the pod again this week, but this having a life and being an adult business isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be. Anyway it worked out pretty well and saved us having to do one of our patented jumpcuts as we got some big Thursday News this week with the announcement that both Haas drivers, Romain Grosjean & Kevin Magnussen are to leave the team at the end of the season with no mention as yet as to who is going to replace them (that’ll probably be Friday news just to spite us) nut it gives us a chance for some more wild speculation as to who we’ll see in what car in 2021.
Also this week on the show we look forward to the debut race at the Algarve International Circuit at Portimao in Portugal. This marks F1’s return to Portugal since the last race at Estoril in 1996. It’s a trip to the mostly unknown for a lot of teams and drivers as the last time F1 was at this circuit for a test was 11 years ago in 2009! Also on the show we have a look at some of the other news stories doing the rounds with a change to the FIA Super Licence rules (another Thursday news story), the rumours of a 23 race calendar with a race in Saudi Arabia in 2021 and are Racing Point going to suffer any fallout after it was revealed that Lance Stroll did have Covid-19 along with his dad and team principle Lawrence?
There’s all the usual tangents on the show as well with a Who’s A Total Shunt (please send some backup ones as Lee’s not on next week’s show) and yet another pause on the Formula Lee sesaon (we’ll get going properly sometime soon, promise) Don’t forget our Discord server where you can sign up for our iRacing league join in the chat during the races and practice/qualifying sessions along with during the week as well and of course you can keep in touch on Facebook & Twitter as always .

If you want to be a record breaker anyway. And this week we had one record broken and one record equalled at the 1st (and as we keep saying, probably only ever) Eifel Grand Prix as Formula 1 made it’s long overdue return to the Nurburgring in the German Eifel mountains. We were promised an unpredictable race and a wet one at that. But while we didn’t get the rain we were promised on Sunday, thanks to the weather we got a glimpse of what the upcoming 2 day race weekend at Imola is going to look like with zero track time on Friday. And we think this actually may have shaken things up a bit as 3 hours of valuable data gathering was lost on what would have been the opening two practice sessions, leaving everyone to go into Saturday’s FP3 with only an hour to work out if their guesswork was right!
This week on the podcast we look back at the Eifel Grand Prix with our usual team by team review of a race that saw Danny Ric return to the podium for the first time since Monza 2018 in a Renault that has been a team in a world of disappointment since Nick Heidfeld took 3rd in Malaysia in 2011. Of course no race review would be complete with our thoughts on who were the rockstars and w**kers of the week to. Of course this race was a special one for 2 drivers as well with Kimi Raikkonnen starting his, record setting 323rd race in a career that started 19 years ago and Lewis Hamilton equalling Michael Schumacher’s record of 91 wins (and he’s not showing any signs of stopping soon!
There’s all the other stuff on the show as well with a Who’s A Total Shunt from the reserve pile (no Lee this week) and due to internet problems at this end, there’s an extension of one week to the 3rd race in the Formula Lee season (Vietnam in the dry in a Mercedes) and we will get the results of the 1st 2 races up as soon as that’s sorted out! Don’t forget our Discord server where you can sign up for our iRacing league join in the chat during the races and practice/qualifying sessions along with during the week as well and of course you can keep in touch on Facebook & Twitter as always .

The make-do and mend 2020 F1 season carries on and this week we’re visiting a track that we last raced on in 2013, the Nurburgring in Germany’s Eifel Mountains for the 1st (and possibly only) Eifel Grand Prix. When the season was being put together it looked like Hockenheim was going to be the location of choice for a German race, however local restrictions meant that it wasn’t going to be possible to hold the race there with a chance of fans being admitted, but the other home of F1 in Germany is in a region that does allow this so for the first time for 7 years we’re back to the ‘Ring!
This week on the show we’ve got a preview of the 11th race of the season that sees championship favourites Mercedes do what Ferrari couldn’t and head the field in their home race, while their closest competitors, RedBull, have had their future plans have been thrown into turmoil with the announcement that engine suppliers Honda are pulling out of F1 at the end of the 2021 season. There’s some wild speculation on how the 2010-2014 champions will cope with a new engine supplier ranging from them going back (possibly cap in hand) to former partners Renault, to them buying the rights to the Honda PU and badging it as their own engine!.
There’s all the other stuff on the show as well with a Who’s A Total Shunt and the reminder of the 3rd race in the Formula Lee season (Vietnam in the dry in a Mercedes) and we will get the results of the 1st 2 races up very soon. Another Russian Grand Prix that for the most part was nothing to write home about for track action, but things got a little controversial before the race even started. After Lewis Hamilton was given a penalty for following team instructions for where to carry out 2 practice starts before putting the car on the grid he was given and then had rescinded penalty points on his SuperLicence, leaving him 1 incident away from a one race ban (for about an hour). Added to that was a 10 second penalty that dropped him to 11th after his pit stop and it was always going to be a struggle for him to reach Michael Schumacher’s record of 91 race wins this weekend.
This week on the podcast we go through the team by team results of the 7th (is it really that long!) running of the Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi circuit (another soul-less TilkeDrom) and, as usual, go through who went well and who didn’t. There’s also our thoughts on the announcement that Chase Carey is moving from his position of CEO of F1 to make way for former Ferrari team boss Stafano Dominicali (or Sunday Steve as Chris likes to call him) and where this will take F1 going into the 2022 rule changes and beyond.
There’s all the other stuff on the show as well with the return of Who’s A Total Shunt and the 3rd race in the Formula Lee season (Vietnam in the dry in a Mercedes) and we will get the results of the 1st 2 races up very soon. Mugello, a circuit that F1 hasn’t raced on before in its 70 year history and also somewhere that the majority of the grid haven’t even experienced in their careers. Add to this the celebrations of the currently struggling Ferrari teams 1000th race in the middle of a global pandemic and what could possibly go wrong? For 8 drivers it was a shortened afternoon, but for the rest of the field it was back to some kind of noral after the topsy-turvy result of the Italian Grand Prix at the more familiar Monza circuit a week ago.
The Inaugural (and possibly only ever?) Tuscan Grand Prox was certainly incident packed on paper with 2 red flag periods and a bright red safety car, but out at the front it was still 2 Mercedes and a RedBull standing on the podium, although for the first time since 2018 it wasn’t Max Verstappen up that as Alex Albon took his first ever top 3 position in F1 in his 2nd season.
This week on the podcast we look back at a race at a venue that we didn’t think we’d ever see host anything on 4 wheels at that speed and all the drama that ensued on a twisty-turny, narrow circuit where cars found they couldn’t go 3 wide into most of the corners. There’s our usual team by team review from the back, although this was made a bit tricky by the fact that only 2 teams got both cars to the end of the race. Along with a round up of F1 news that’s come out since last week with Sebastian Vettel spoiling the Ferrari party by announcing his move to Aston Martin for 2021 on the Thursday of race weekend, leaving Sergio Perez without a seat for next year at the moment (until a Tuesday, knowing our luck)

12 months ago Pierre Gasly was in a tailspin, demoted from the RedBull team back to Toro Rosso and his career was looking like it was following the same trajectory as his new team-mate Daniil Kvyat in his first stint in the meat-grinder. 12 Months on he’s just got his 2nd podium of his career and also just taken the “junior” RedBull team, now racing under the name of Alpha Tauri, back to the top step at the same circuit where they got their first win 12 years and many, many drivers ago in Monza!
This week on the podcast we look back at the Italian Grand Prix which has given us the strangest result in the strangest F1 season so far. As well as Pierre’s surprise win there were also 2nd career podiums for Carlos Sainz (and he actually got to celebrate on the podium this time) and Lance Stroll, which hardly anyone would have predicted this time last week.
There’s our usual team by team review of who did well and who really didn’t (when a Haas was the highest placed Ferrari powered car you know it’s not been a normal weekend) and a look at some of the news that come from the weekend with it being the final race where the Williams family had any involvement with the team that’s carried their name to countless wins and championships over the years.
Also we mentioned on the show this week that one of our listeners has started making facemasks and if you’d like to get hold of one and support a small business in these difficult times, check out The Dread Seamstress’s Etsy shop here
As we’re running on 75% power (get well soon Chris) we didn’t get a Total Shunt in tonight, but there’s all the other waffle that comes with a race review and the reminder of the new 1st Formula Lee race of the season (Bahrain full circuit in a Renault in the dry) Don’t forget to get your Prediction League entries in for Mugello as well.
