Hailing from Ringsend in Dublin, Kayleigh Glynn has been a constant in Dublin's electronic music scene for many years. She boasts a decade of experience, where she honed her skills at Pierce Rooney's electronic music school RMS during this time. Kayleigh recently earned the status as an international DJ, as she played at Ibiza Rocks earlier this year alongside Irish chart topper and star, Jazzy. Not to mention appearances at Electric Picnic as well as frequent gig performances at Index, Hangar, Sin, Warehouse Dublin and Sexy Dancing over the years. Cementing herself as one of the most technically apt and varied house music selectors to come out of Dublin in recent times. She's also shared line-ups with some of the industries leading artists which include Belters Only, Franky Rizardo and Morgan Seatree which is a testament to her quality and consistent output as a DJ. Her recording for the Local Selection is meticulously done. Building the energy up for the duration right from the off. This addition to the Local Selection draws on a host of sun-kissed house anthems that is widely reminiscent of Viki's recent season in Ibiza. Viki Dos Santos has quickly established herself as a dynamic force within Dublin's nightlife scene, despite starting her DJ journey just over a year ago. This is a testament to her infectious energy and passion for music has quickly captivated audiences across Europe from Dublin to Andorra as well as the world’s most iconic music scene, Ibiza. In this brief period, she has shared stages with renowned artists DJ Swisherman, Janis Zielinski, Jude Bradshaw, Daire, and Mezer the Architect. This has also allowed her to play for a range of parties which include Reboot, Lost and Hidden Love. Her high-energy sets, fuses her love for a variety of genres that she’s constantly toggling between. Often hearing bits of house, disco, hard house, garage and more during her sets. The 250th edition of the Four Four Magazine Local Selection is here, and we are ecstatic to showcase the Drogheda-based DJ and producer Hunteryx as the latest entry to the series. Find yourself encapsulated by his distinct style which stems from the house and techno era of the 90s and 00s. Having burst onto Ireland’s techno scene over the past 12 months, Hunteryx has impressed a range of dancers, DJs and producers alike with his fast-paced, nostalgia-driven discography taking inspiration from the golden age of dance music. Gathering support from the likes of Yasmin Gardezi, Skin On Skin and Shampain during this short span of time. Constantly improving in every way, Hunteryx found himself making his festival debut this summer at Otherside’s One In The Woods with Research and Slither while earning lucrative support slots for Sunil Sharpe, Fjaak and DJ Plant Texture too. This weeks Local Selection welcomes Dublin DJ and producer Daniel Mc Dermott to the series. This rising artist has supplied a resounding recording which showcases his sleek, groove-laden flavour of techno. Dublin-based Daniel Mc Dermott is our latest addition to the Four Four Local Selection Mix Series, as he distributes a number of groove infused club cuts over the course of this gratifying recording. Daniel does a fantastic job at weaving this mix together in a technically excellent manner. He manages to keep the energy high and driving, which can easily imitate the atmosphere of a packed, dimly lit basement. Daniel has also recently started his journey as a music producer in recent times and has quickly managed to release two respectable singles in ‘Worked’ and ‘Northside’ more recently. Not to mention his involvement in Dublin collective Outmoded which is dedicated to highlighting the infectious old-school techno sound. As a producer, his sound focuses on dance-driven drum work along with choppy, gated vocals which are ideal for the dance floor. Limerick-based electronic duo 40hurtz and rapper Hazey Haze are gearing up to release one of the year’s most anticipated projects, a Berghain-inspired record, this Thursday. Known for their experimental approach, the collaboration fuses the bass-heavy energy of Limerick’s dubstep and grime scenes with the industrial, techno-infused sounds of Berlin’s Berghain. Inspired by a surprise booking at Berlin’s legendary Berghain, 40hurtz and rapper Hazey Haze dove into the studio to create a fresh batch of tracks, gearing up for their performance at the CTM Festival in February 2024. The result is an album that fuses 40hurtz’s hard-edged, groove-laced UK-influenced production with Hazey Haze’s gritty, hard-hitting lyricism. 40hurtz, known for his innovative and uncompromising production, has crafted a collection of tracks that push boundaries, delving into the darker, more atmospheric side of electronic music while preserving a distinctly Irish edge. For the 248th Local Selection Mix, we present London-based DJ-CK. Lock in for an hour of relentless, high-octane energy featuring bouncing techno, trance, progressive house, and hardhouse, all woven together in the spirit of the playful parties DJ-CK frequents. Ciara, better known as DJ-CK, is a Cork native who has been making her mark in London for the past three years. A respected figure in East London’s music scene, she is a resident DJ at the Queen Adelaide and a key member of the Tea Break group. DJ-CK also hosts “trans~late,” a monthly party that features both seasoned and emerging trans DJs, providing an inclusive platform for artists at all stages of their careers. DJ-CK has been racking up a nice CV of past gigs with performances at numerous prominent venues and parties within London’s queer scene, including Riposte, Dalston Superstore, and Joyride Rave at Corsica Studios. After making her Irish debut in December at Machina in Cork, she returned this summer for a standout appearance as part of the Foxgluv takeover at Providencia during Electric Picnic. The rising DJ also holds residencies at two radio stations, Voices Radio and AAJA, where she highlights Irish and queer guests each month. While her early DJing was centred around hardgroove adjacent techno, her sound evolved significantly during her time in London. Her shows now feature a diverse range of genres, including UKG, techno, trance, and progressive house. Chaz Moloney has emerged as one of Ireland’s most exciting newcomers in 2024, despite having been a staple in the Irish techno scene for the past decade. Inspired by the many landscapes of underground culture, Chaz has tirelessly pushed the boat out for himself and his city. His bohemian attitude seeps into every facet of life, bringing a handcrafted approach to the many projects he’s been involved in throughout his years involved in club culture. Moloney has ditched DJing for the time being and pushed himself headfirst into live performance, creating yet another new challenge for an artist who thrives on adversity. Although ranking tracks and declaring a ‘Best of 2024’ can be subjective, one thing is certain: whenever local legend Dan Ryan announces new music, he’s generally an overwhelming favourite. His most recent release, Cromags, may be his best yet. Ryan creates a true masterpiece by melding tribal rhythms with uplifting chords and poignant vocals, resulting in a composition that would feel right at home on a Hans Zimmer soundtrack. Electronic music has become increasingly flashy and performative, often lacking any mystique it once held. Our Instagram feeds are flooded with every detail of our favourite producers’ lives, many of whom reveal all their secrets in the name of ‘content.’ Yet, when a mysterious artist like Dan Ryan reveals a track of such high calibre, it feels like a beacon of hope. It reminds us that there are still artists out there making extraordinary music who prefer to remain under the radar. Whenever this Irish producer grants us a glimpse of his work, we stop, listen, and rewind repeatedly. Our culture has grown alarmingly comfortable with mediocrity. We’re often more focused on churning out generic music to keep pace with rapidly changing algorithms than on creating something truly exceptional. This obsession with quantity over quality has diluted the music landscape, leaving artists struggling to produce just another ‘okay’ track. Dan Ryan, however, is a refreshing contrast. Rarely heard from and content with letting his music speak for itself, he emerges infrequently but always delivers a masterpiece when he does. Cromags is a masterful fusion of classic tribal percussion and otherworldly sound design, evoking a soundtrack that is fit for humanity’s ascent into a new world. The track radiates effortless cool, with Ryan pushing energy to its limits before unleashing moments of explosive intensity, like a lion bursting from a cage. This dystopian groove seamlessly bridges our past and present, delivering something refreshingly new and irresistibly infectious. When asked about the idea for the track Dan and the video that accompanies it, he said “The original idea for the video was to just showcase the landscape of Ireland. I recorded it on two different bike trek trips across Ireland during lockdown times and just filmed all of what I saw and the people I met along the way. Churches and religious statues are a big part of the landscape of rural Ireland, so that became a big part of the video.” “The song samples a tune called “Reborn” by Colin Stetson; it’s the soundtrack from a movie called Hereditary, and I fell in love with the song when I heard it and immediately imagined big, banging breaks behind it. There is a sample of a woman speaking on the track—she’s a dying woman talking about what she will miss about life, which I think fits really well with the tune and gives it a real life-and-rebirth vibe. Sean, a rising star in the Irish scene, has been making an impact with his shifted sound, which seamlessly blends high-energy techno, bass-heavy rhythms, and novel genre flips. Sean Daly is a dynamic DJ, producer, and digger most known for his varied approach to music selection and outspoken attitude that transcends genre stereotypes. He has recently made waves in the local club scene, performing at a variety of venues across the Irish capital, bringing a diverse bag of dancefloor delicacies to each booth he enters. His ascent has been fuelled by Phever Radio presenting shows and gigs in Here & Now, Index, and Wigwam. Sean has played alongside Irish favourites Mark Blair, Chantel Kavanagh, and Obskür, always changing his weapons of choice for each occasion. Sean brings the same intensity and varied taste to the studio as he does during his live performances. Often incorporating inspirations from all around the genre spectrum, merging techno with garage, house with hardcore, and so on. Sean’s entry into the local selection sees him continue with this playful and broad-spanning approach, kicking things off with a bassline remix of La Roux’s club classic ‘In For The Kill’, before quickly switching things up a gear with some bouncing speed garage, and this pirouette of speed garage, edit, and bassline continues for the duration, keeping things locked and loaded while also calculated and unexpected. Sean maintains control over the structure and flow, seesawing things up and down, bringing things to ecstasy-knotted crescendos before tossing another out-of-the-clue feel-good anthem. The Gluais head honcho has submitted a stunningly idiosyncratic recording which features as the 246th edition of the series. Expect meddling basslines and murky undertones throughout. Today's Local Selection welcomes Cork-born, Limerick-based DJ and promoter trio Triad. The three are responsible for running a host of club shows and free parties across Cork and Limerick under their promoting outfit 'Equinox' and have supplied us with this week's contribution to the series. Triad first started over two years ago in Limerick having built a name through throwing house parties in college court before breaking into the Limerick club scene. Since then the group have enjoyed playing a range of venues in Limerick and Cork like Pharmacia, Dolans, Liquid Lounge and Club 061 supporting acts like Shampain, Dart, Prozak, Pagan and more. The group has also enjoyed 2 headline shows of their own in their short period of running and performing shows. Triad's collective Equinox is responsible with running over 10 sell out shows in Limerick since their inception, booking artists like Lb aka Labat, Shee, Derv, Chris Flannigan, Dart and so on during this period. They have also organised a number of secret coastal raves alongside Club 061 with plans to carry out more in the future. Moving onto their submission for the Local Selection, this mix showcases a variety of tracks the trio are enjoying lately, ranging from modern hardgroove cuts to euphoric trance along with other uplifting selections. This includes an array of funky bass lines and choppy percussion before venturing into heavier territory accompanied by ethereal sounding synths. L.Ivory, a pillar of Dublin’s queer scene and founder of NSFW, steps up to the 244th Local Selection Mix. Ivory’s 90s-inspired set includes Baleric-brushed grooves, UK rave, smokey Panorama Bar style cuts and more for an hour of dancefloor pleasure. Best known for his party NSFW, the Dublin native established the forward-thinking queer party series in January 2022 to promote marginalised LQBTQ+ talent in his hometown. It’s hard to believe the party has been going on for two and a half years, leaving its mark on the Dublin landscape and gaining a cult following thanks to its utopian vibe, free of judgement and promoting pure freedom of expression. L. Ivory‘s work in Dublin club culture extends beyond NSFW; he is also promoting shows under a new brand, SissHut, in Yamamori Tengu. His NSFW radio show on Dublin Digital Radio, a community-driven station, has provided a platform for emerging talent while also allowing the NSFW boss to showcase his diverse musical tastes. Emerging Belgian DJ/producer STEYA shares her debut EP on IMF, becoming just the ninth artist to release a full body of work on Marcel Fengler’s influential label. Her debut EP crystalises 20 years of devotion to techno, presenting a broad palette of sonic influences formed since her early days as a raver in Antwerp. At the same time, it continues the label’s philosophy of pairing a next generation artist with respected heads of the genre, with long-time Swedish producer Hertz and STEYA’s hero Rolando featuring on her ‘Dopamine EP’. Growing up in Belgium where the ‘Knights of the Jaguar’ was a staple childhood anthem, it was “one of her biggest wishes to have him (Rolando) as a remixer”. An EP borne through two years of dedicated studio time, ‘Dopamine EP’ kicks off with the electric title track, a gritty tribal outing marked by dynamic shifts in tempo throughout. ‘Fast Life’ is a slick bass-led cut with plenty of bottom-end kick before a punchy synth melody gets added to the brew. Swedish producer Hertz – a favourite of STEYA’s (“I’ve played one of his tracks in every set since the beginning of my career”) joins the project to re-work the title track, upping the energy of the original. ‘Things You Never Said’ begins life centred around energetic rolling grooves, before warm synth rushes give it a distinct Motor City vibe. Rolando fittingly steps up for remix duties to close out the EP, delivering a masterclass in deep simmering techno, extending the original by two minutes. The 242nd Local Selection Mix comes from Foxgluv boss JWY, who delivers a steamrolling hour of UK garage, two-step, speed-garage, and dubstep-kissed highfliers. The next edition of the Local Selection Mix comes from Jowy, a Dublin-based DJ with origins in Ghana, India, and Surinam who was born in Amsterdam. The rising DJ’s introduction into the Dublin scene was through community-based workshops, which she has been running herself as her career advances. Earwiggle welcomes a debut on the label from Brian Gibbs, aka GUNJACK!!! Kasey Keating, better known as Kaycee, has been a vital element of the Irish dance music scene during the previous half-decade. The multi-genre selector’s extensive knowledge of dance music has resulted in a productive run of performances since her debut on the scene. The sounds of the 1990s heavily influence Kaycee’s ever-changing record collection. Still, with her keen ear for fresh and innovative cuts, Kaycee’s ever-changing record collection boasts a maturity far beyond her years. Kaycee’s ability to filter across genres and reluctance to adapt to a single sound has allowed her to fit in at many clubs and parties, earning a reputation as a chameleon-style selector. With sets ranging from progressive house and disco to pounding trance and techno, crowds can be left on the edge of their seat whenever Kasey enters the booth. CUPRA takes over our Local Selection Mix Series with the five finalists from their ‘On The Pulse’ DJ Competition, which is aimed to assist in developing the next generation of Irish talent. CUPRA‘s On The Pulse DJ competition has reached its final stages, and five finalists have emerged from a mountain of high-quality local DJ mixes from entirely emerging artists, highlighting the incredible amount of talent developing from the Emerald Isle. With releases on community label Cloudcore and support from UK mystery duo Two Shell, Brawni has established himself as one of the most exciting and forward-thinking electronic music composers in Ireland and beyond. Brawni, who frequently incorporates his Octatrack and synthesisers into his productions and live videos, has secured funding for a live hardware improvisation concept called ‘Hardware’, which will feature four different live artists performing back-to-back for four hours of live innovation and invention across a variety of DIY spaces. To celebrate the 240th Local Selection mix, Cork-native, NYC-based selector STE-VÍ, once half of the Hanley Brothers, takes us on a journey through the golden age of techno. Mixed entirely on vinyl, the young selector glides through a collection of tribal-kissed 90s classics featuring cuts from Marco Bailey, DJ Shufflemaster, Joris Voorn, Hardcell, and others. New York-based techno artist STE-VÍ creates a unique blend of driving techno and groove. The energetic DJ is influenced by late 90s/early 2000s techno, but he also includes recent cuts while keeping his gaze fixed on the record shelves. Elements Electric is a brand new label out of Dublin, Ireland being brought to life with the latest release from acclaimed local producer Peter Sweeney aka Rustal (393 Records, Diffuse Reality). Heart Drives The Machine is the name of this aptly titled 4-tracker. ntrinsic Rhythm is delighted to release new music by Irish Electro great Decal (Alan O'Boyle) that was initially planned for his "Trama Industries" label in the early 2000's with 4 across the physical 12" vinyl release and 8 digitally. Decal on this release - "At the time I'd have been fairly upfront about wanting to release tracks that were faster than most and in a style that wasn't straight electro. Some of these tracks fell into a weird middle ground for me, so they got put aside. It had been 20 years since I'd heard any of them and on listening back I reckoned that time had been kind to them so I started remastering them and uploading to Soundcloud alongside some classic 12" releases from my label Trama Industries. For me, it was interesting to hear sounds and techniques emerging on some later tracks that would form the basis of my later projects like Legion Of Two and Of One. I'd kinda forgotten about that. This weeks entry to the Local Selection welcomes a live recording from two rising DJs Emmie and Faye as they have so kindly shared their set taken from their gig in Wigwam playing for Research before D.Dan back in December. The pair weave through an array of hypnotic cuts throughout the recording which make for a delightful listen. For the 235th edition of the series, we have a superb back-to-back recording featuring Kildare-born and now Dublin-based DJs Emmie and Fayeolo from their show with Research supporting Mala Junta resident and summerpup label owner D.Dan in Wigwam back in December of 2023. Both DJs began mixing when they started college just shy of 2 years ago and have harnessed their skill and dedication during this time while enjoying a range of opportunities as solo artists and as a back-to-back pairing. Showing an impeccable level of understanding of techno, Emmie and Fayeolo derive inspiration from the late 90s and early 00s era of the genre. This has resulted in playing for acclaimed parties such as Slither, Research and Hidden Love across the city in a range of venues, while both artists will enjoy their festival debuts this St. Patrick’s Day at Otherside which will be a fantastic achievement for both artists. As both Emmie and Fayeolo gain more knowledge about the foundations of underground dance music, they delve further into sub-genres of techno. Given that D.Dan possesses quite a hypnotic, groove-driven sound it is clear that the pair explored that particular soundscape while adding their own flare for good measure. This is apparent from selections which vary from melodic breaks to looped baselines as the mix captures their exploration by spinning some deep techno cuts for your listening pleasure. The 234th Local Selection Mix is soundtracked by Dublin dance music royalty, Charlie. The veteran DJ shifts through his soul-soaked stacks, selecting a mesmerising hour of rare cuts from glittering disco to dusty jazz-touched grooves. A familiar name to many, Charlie has been slinging records since the early 90’s. It all started after his first visit to Side’s DC in 1990, Charlie knew he wanted to be a DJ and began a lifelong passion for music. It was around this time that Charlie would begin his association with Abbey Discs, the Dublin record hub and Mecca for Irish DJs. Charlie was well-known in the mid to late 1990s for his basement parties at the Ferryman on the quays and whatever other venue he could find. He then went on leave for a few years, returning in 2008 after spending some time with his family. His return to the booth included a support set for the revered Darren Emerson alongside hosting a weekly show with Phever Radio. Following this Charlie would begin to collaborate with friend Pat Hyland to form the Northside Loft Society, which held shows in Tengu. Charlie often performs in Dublin venues such as Hang Dai, Izakaya Basement, Pawnshop, and The Big Romance, to mention a few. Charlie is a proud local DJ who oozes coolness from the moment his fingertips touch the platter of the turntable. Charlie’s submission for the Local Selection exemplifies his remarkable talent for delving deep into his huge collection to unearth hidden jewels and timeless classics, resulting in a nostalgic sound that remains as fresh as ever. Charlie’s masterful hour sees him draw on various coins of influence, effortlessly blending elements of jazz, funk, soul, and disco, while also pushing the timeless sound of Dublin’s hallowed rave era in the 1990’s. French-based label Cielo Records is a techno project from JC Laurent that has so far been a vessel for his own cutting-edge ideas and diverse taste. Having over ten years of production experience to his name, JC Laurent has released on the likes of Coyu's Suara, Abstract Division's Dynamic Reflection, and Deepak Sharma's Hidden Recordings amongst others. Na Nich is a Ukranian artist who features with the solo remix here and can be found on the mighty Delsin Records, Svreca's Semantica, Viels' End of Perception and his own Rhythm Büro. Starting with "Comet" it's a melting pot of dub techno and modular sound effects with an ethereal, analogue presence. Second up is the "Comet (Na Nich Remix)" which adds an even more dreamy textures to some elements turning it into a dystopian soundscape. "Nothing But An Illusion" steps into a slightly leftfield approach with cyclical tones, shuffling beat and a sci-fi aesthetic. The final track titled "The Switch" is an overall deeper facet of techno that intertwines with a looming intensity. Today’s premiere is a free download from Dublin-native Aero as he shares a bumping production titled ‘I Know You Got Hardcore’. This funk-driven techno track combines meddling low-end and catchy vocals, resulting in a ferociously energising listen. To put things lightly, Aero has grown into one of Ireland’s most prolific Irish artists in recent times, the youngster has carved out a career that is wrapped around the foundations of purist techno. His punishing style of techno has been haunting Irish dancefloors for over half a decade, as Aero’s deep knowledge of techno sees him weave through hard-edged and groove-laden techno cuts from various time periods. Aero has played alongside some of techno’s most formidable artists such as Stef Mendesidis & Dax J through to SHDW & Obscure Shape & Sunil Sharpe, to name a few. He has built a strong repertoire as one of the most trusted warm-up DJs in Ireland but is also equally versed in pulverising a dancefloor at peak time. Arketip Discs is a Barcelona-based vinyl and digital imprint co-founded by Spear and Makuto that has featured music by Reeko, Truncate, Temudo, ORBE and Eduardo De La Calle. Makuto is the label head from Spain with a growing reputation and who has kept his productions exclusively to Arketip Discs so far. “Sfera” is a hypnotic and atmospheric cut with modular accents and tones that morph and expand in sleek style. A. Morgan is from Manchester, UK and has been establishing his productions with revered releases on the likes of Jay Clarke’s Blackaxon, Joton’s Newrhythmic, Hans Bouffmyhre’s Sleaze and Berlin’s BCCO. “Vogue One” has a stripped-back style and groove focused rhythm with creative sound design and precise percussion highlights. VIL is known as a core member of the Portuguese outfit HAYES, and has released music on Ben Klock’s Klockworks, Ben Sims’ Hardgroove, Shlomi Aber’s Be As One, and TWR72’s Float amongst others. “The Reaction” has a shuffling and quirky rhythm with deep, floating chords and electric elements creating a unique vibe. This 90-minute live recording from Galway’s fabled Deep Sea Dweller party sees the Apartment Records boss drenching dancers in a swirl of jerking bass-heavy half-steppers and menacing up-front acid cuts. The 230th iteration of the Local Selection Mix comes from Apartment Records boss, Kenny Hanlon. A longtime fixture in Ireland’s dance music scene, the Dublin City native has made a name for himself as a renowned label boss, DJ, and promoter. When it comes to DJs and curators, Hanlon is in a league of his own as his sound has remained consistent and unadulterated, making him one of the few original purists left in the Irish capital. Hanlon is best known for his work under Apartment Records, one of Dublin’s most illustrious imprints, operating since 2011. For over ten years, the label has offered intricate releases from artists such as TR One, Chase Smith, New Jackson, Belacqua, and countless more, positioning itself as a leader in forward-facing Irish dance music. Hanlon is also involved in one of Ireland’s most unique festivals, Open Ear. Kenny has tirelessly and passionately advocated for nonconformist Irish club sounds, always leaning towards the weird and wonderful corners of the electronic spectrum. Hanlon blends the deep and cavernous tones of Detroit’s aquatic electro-sound with the screwface techno rhythms of Germany and Belgium in his live recording from Galway’s Deep Sea Dweller party. The 229th instalment of The Local Selection Mix comes from Influence Resident’s NAT TYPE & FOCKER who provide a live recording from their set at Dublin’s Cellar. The Dubliners join forces for a full-throttle industrial techno affair that is not for the faint of heart. We feature a live recording from Influence’s new event series ‘Influence Invites’ where they aim to give local, upcoming artists a platform to showcase their talent. For the first addition of this show back in October Influence’s very own NAT TYPE & FOCKER went B2B to close out this show after their first B2B closing at Fuinneamh Festival 2023. The pair’s extensive understanding of contemporary hard techno power is shaped by the overdriven sounds of Belgium and the Netherlands’ hard dance scenes. The pair’s love for hard-as-nails techno is channelled into Influence where they’ve been bringing hard techno to the forefront of the Irish scene, bringing over the likes of AnD, Azyr, Cera Khin, Dyen, Funk Tribu, DJ Hyperdrive and more. The pair show no qualms in reaching the upper echelons of the BPM scale, as they brazenly begin their set in the 150bpm region. The first Local Selection of 2024 and the 228th edition of the series comes from Dublin-based DJ and promoter Sean Ruane. The Cynical head honcho manoeuvres through an array of groovy and hypnotic techno over the 65 minutes of his set, primarily paying homage to the genre’s golden era. This week’s entry to the Four Four Local Selection Mix Series welcomes Dublin native Sean Ruane. Having played an array of shows for parties such as Lost, Oblivion, Loose Tooth Dental Club, Somewhere Else and more in venues like Bow Lane, Fibbers, Cellar and The Soundhouse highlights this young DJ’s passion and appreciation for all things dance music. This has lead him to start his own night and mix series titled ‘Cynical’ where the Dublin-based collective aims to showcase a broad range of local and international talent through events and their Cynical Mix Series. Recognising that Sean’s musical preference is predominantly techno-driven it is apparent that his selections aid him in standing out during this recording, as he spins through a string of hypnotic and funky techno cuts which places a high degree of admiration toward the golden era of techno. This week’s entry to the Local Selection welcomes Dublin-based DJ, producer and promoter Corcra for the 227th edition of the series. The Float resident swerves through a fine selection of disco-house cuts, setting a lovely precedent of spending quality time with loved ones. Bliss! Corcra’s sound preference as an artist leans on the groove of disco, funk, soul, and old-school house. He has cracked the code of supplying hours of music that keeps the dance floor filled, spanning decades from old to fresh remixes of classics that partygoers know and love. Not to mention a deep collection of uncommon gems to accompany his esteemed selections. This has resulted in Corcra picking up various slots at some of Ireland’s best festivals which include Electric Picnic, All Together Now and BD while picking up a lucrative support slot for LA LA and Chantel Kavanagh at Index back in September. His love for booty-shaking music sees him weave through modern disco house, deriving inspiration from acts like Purple Disco Machine, Mousse T, and Horse Meat Disco. While gaining massive influence from his mother’s remarkable taste this has given his sets a sprinkle of 90s and early 2000s club dance tunes setting Corcra even further afield as a standout DJ renowned for his stylistic flavour. This mix emulates everything great about disco-house, the upbeat and fun-loving selections throughout are ideal for transporting the listener back to great weather and good times with friends with not a care in the world.
