Host: Robert Hatfield | Released Thursday, October 12, 2023

On this episode of Preachers in Training, brother Dean teaches us how to minister with compassion to those who are learning to live with loss. On his website (linked below), he writes:
Ignorance and inexperience with grief, especially that which accompanies the loss of a mate, makes it difficult (if not impossible) to minister effectively to those trying to live after loss. These workshops raise awareness about the impact of loss. Hopefully, with informed insight people will be better prepared for the experience and more capable servants of those left behind.

* His preaching was Christ-centered.
* He really trusted God above everything else.
Gatlinburg, Tennessee Wildfire Relief
Here’s the message from Rod Rutherford, preacher for the Gatlinburg church of Christ:
I have learned that three members have lost their homes. A friend called a friend in the Gatlinburg fire department to ask about the church building. He was told that everything on Reagan Drive was destroyed, either burned down or badly damaged beyond use. This would include our church building. We plan to worship with the Sevierville church Sunday and then have a congregational meeting to discuss our future. Our building was fully insured. If anyone wants to help those who lost their homes, we ask them to send a contribution to the Gatlinburg church of Christ and mark it For Fire Relief. We will use it to help our members first and then others as funds permit.
The address is:
Gatlinburg church of Christ
P.O. Box 361
Gatlinburg, TN 37738
Thanks for your interest, prayers and concern. — Rod

Preachers in Training Season 3, Episode 11 for Thursday, April 21, 2016, 2016
Adam Faughn discusses preachers moving from one congregation to another. He and Robert discuss the following questions:
* How can a preacher know when it is time to leave a work for another work?
* What are appropriate reasons to leave? How can one know when he should persevere versus when he should leave?
* Is it bad for a preacher to move to a different work because he feels that the new work would afford more opportunities of service than the old work did?
* If one is leaving a congregation due to difficulties in that work, does he have an obligation to try to talk about the troubles with that congregation’s leadership (especially if the troubles include doctrinal error or other sins)?
* Some seem to think less of or look down on on preachers who leave after only being at a congregation for a relatively short time. Is this justified?
* Would you advise moving to another congregation in the same area?
* When a preacher is seeking a new work, should he inform his current eldership of his intentions to leave? If so, when?
* How can we navigate transitioning from one congregation to another without splitting the church?
