- 5 - #5: The app fit for any runner
We talk to Dr Sean Radford, Founder & CEO of TrainAsONE, a sophisticated training system for runners. We discuss the system’s humble spreadsheet beginnings, the way it flexes and adapts to its user, and its future in injury prevention.
Thu, 24 Nov 2016 - 31min - 4 - #4: Reducing diagnostic anxiety with ambient technology and iPads vs sedatives.
We talk to Patrick Lerou, Senior Business Development Manager EMEA at Philips Healthcare Experience Solutions about how Philips are using ambient technology to keep people calm during scans. Using a combination of lighting, visuals and sound, they create an immersive ‘in bore’ experience that keeps people occupied (and helps kids stay still too!). We also take a look at recent healthcare news, including the Fancy Bears hack and its impact on healthcare data storage, the winner of the Mayo Clinic’s Think Big Challenge and a study which pits sedatives against iPads.
Fri, 23 Sep 2016 - 33min - 3 - #3: 3D printing orthotics for children and jaws for North Korea.
We talk to the wonderful company Andiamo who are trailblazing the 3D printing of orthotic supports for children in the UK (and have set themselves the goal of delivering a medically effective orthosis within 1 week of a person’s need globally). The inspiration for the company came from Diamo Parvez, who, due to medical negligence, lived with cerebral palsy. Sadly, Diamo passed away just nine years old. Andiamo was created to help counter the difficulties experienced getting good orthotic devices to improve his quality of life. Andiamo's CEO (and Diamo's Dad) Naveed Parvez discusses the gulf between the promise and reality of 3D printing (one they are thankfully helping to narrow), how the technology is developing, the benefits of 3D scanning over taking a plaster cast (which can be difficult enough for a full grown adult, let alone a small child) and much, much more. Senior Content Producer Chris Brunner also calls in to discuss 3D printing and scanning news from around the world, including 3D printing's first appearance at the paralympics, 3D printed jaws in North Korea, 3D designs (and VR tours) of hospitals in crisis zones and a clever 3D printed solution for runners looking to pace themselves.
Wed, 17 Aug 2016 - 45min - 2 - #2: VR as a form of pain relief (and much more besides) and, of course, Pokemon Go.
We talk with AppliedVR CEO Matthew Stoudt about the HUGE remit VR will have in the future of healthcare, from the starting point in helping battle opioid prescription through to behaviour management. Of course we can't touch on VR/AR without talking about the Pokemon Go phenomenon, so to wrap things up we bring out own Alan Payne in to talk about how gamified walking will impact society.
Thu, 14 Jul 2016 - 32min - 1 - #1: AI in health and a walk around the Wearable Tech Show.
Episode 1 of the Tech Health Podcast, featuring Alan Payne discussing AI's impact on healthcare provision and a chat with some new tech creators at the Wearable Tech Show.
