The 90s Called

We're back! Season 2 is starting off with a road trip all the way to Fargo, North Dakota to talk with Full House MegaFan Deb (follow her on Twitter: @debadeedebadah) Everything is on the table in this one: John Stamos's belly button, Uncle Joey's lack of romantic action (except for Mr. Woodchuck), the infamous "Full House Awwwww" moments, and if The Olsen Twins got too big for their britches (figuratively, of course - they be skinny). We also segue into another San Francisco set masterpiece "The Room", Alanis Morissette, and, obviously, the attractiveness of Steve from "Blues Clues." The 90s Called, but it was after 8pm. Ask your mom if you can eat your bowl of Fruit Loops in the living room, because Nicktoons are on! Brian’s sister Jill is on to reflect on Rugrats, Aaaahh! Real Monsters, Hey Arnold, and all the other Nickelodeon-based toons of the 90s! We put our collective memories together to figure out just how Ren and Stimpy didn’t spark a parental censorship campaign, why cartoon characters don’t gradually age, the sunny and fun trend of dead mothers in children’s entertainment, and which end of Cat Dog was the unlucky one that had to deal with #1 and #2. There’s also some bonus discussion on Snick and how Brian somehow psychologically tortured his older sister with a piece of red foam. Attach your Game Genie and ask your mom for some Capri Suns, because we're getting into video games! Don't try this at home, kids, but I met a stranger from the internet who turned out to be super cool: His name is Curt Moe, and he's on to reminisce about arcade and console games we enjoyed in the 90s. We tackle the rivalry of Mario vs. Sonic, why Brian could not handle the fatalities in "Mortal Kombat", Curt getting blood lust after a few hours of "Grand Theft Auto", and the pangs of regret when your mom sells your old Nintendo at a garage sale for pennies. The 90s Called, and they don't give a crap about the quarters you put down on the machine. Wait your stupid turn. Audio note: Curt has a booming, manly voice while I am apparently a meek flower who didn't talk directly into the microphone, so be warned of volume discrepancies. Or, am I doing a power play and forcing you to listen closely in order to hear me? You decide. Also my dog decided to run a marathon across the wooden floor of our recording space and drink water. Sorry.

Strap on your platform boots, try on your union jack dress, and slam your body down and wind it all around because we’re talking Spice Girls! Brian’s college friend and certified Spice Girls superfan Lawrence Stahl traveled all the way from Taiwan to be on the podcast and guide us through all things ginger, sporty, posh, baby, and scary. Say you’ll be there as we defend the Spiceworld movie, debate the girls’ solo careers, and divide on who our favorite member was. Also, is there a need for a save haven and community for straight men who love belting out “2 Become 1” unironically? We think so. Join us, Spice Bros: We understand you. Close your caboodle for a sec and listen in as comedians Hessley Rey (tuesdaynightcomedyshow.com) and Sarah McPeck are on to take us through the fashion highs and lows of the 90s. Hear all about how to deplete the ozone layer with Aquanet, the best way to accessorize your bodysuit, professional grade makeup application tips, why eyebrows just didn’t matter, and the dangers of walking in off-brand JNCO jeans. This one goes off the rails just a bit, so there is some bonus content about public urination and Gwyneth Paltrow (trust me, it’s worth it.) The 90s Called, and they want the Zubaz you borrowed back like right now.

Well isn’t that special? Brooke Schaffer is on to look back at the casts, sketches, and moments of Saturday Night Live in the 1990s. We go in depth on some schweddy balls, whore nuns, the entire Delta Delta Delta sorority, the Gap Girls, and a Canteen Boy. We also fight the real enemy with Sinead O’Connor and struggle to name all the Popes of the last 3 decades. The 90s Called, and they’re living in a van down by the river.

The final episode of 2015 finds Brian at home alone like a Scrooge huddling under his blankets for warmth. With no guest, he courageously answers Buzzfeed-esque '90s themed quizzes for your amusement, and eventually Shaka Farr joins the fray to help discover if Brian is a Britney or Christina, an Andrew Keegan or Rider Strong, and just how much of a '90s kid he really is. The 90s Called, and they're hosting their own quiz on Angelfire.

Did you really think we'd get far into "The 90s Called" without talking boy bands?  Come on.   Mary Beth Beckman (www.mbbeckman.com) is here discussing the tragedy that is Justin Timberlake's 90s hair, finding Chris Kirkpatrick's only fan (spoiler: It's Mary Beth), who had the best facial hair in BSB, forming a Canadian boy band, and how Hanson turned Brian into a 5th grade bully.
