Sun, 08 Sep 2024 - 51min - 368 - A Life Of Expectation - Matthew 5:10-12
Transformative Truth: True Righteousness brings persecution; persecution for Jesus' sake brings eternal reward. First, to stay faithful, you must arm yourself with the expectation of a righteous life. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:5-8 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Romans 8:29 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Psalm 23:3 Second, to stay faithful, you must arm yourself with the expectation of persecution. For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2:20-21 We should not be like Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous. Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you. To stay faithful, you must arm yourself with the expectation of eternal rewards. And I, behold, I make you this day a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the land. They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you, declares the Lord, to deliver you. Jeremiah 1:18-19 Why has my pain been perpetual And my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? Wilt Thou indeed be to me like a deceptive stream With water that is unreliable? Jeremiah 15:18 NASB My soul is bereft of peace; I have forgotten what happiness is; so I say, "My endurance has perished; so has my hope from the Lord." Lamentations. 3:17-18 But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. "The Lord is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him." Lamentations 3:21-24 For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? 2 Corinthians 2:15-16
Sun, 01 Sep 2024 - 41min - 367 - Blessed Are The Peacemakers - Matthew 5:9
Transformative Truth: Believers prove their relation to God by making peace with others. 1. God is the consummate Peacemaker. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him [Christ], and through him to reconcile to himself all things ...by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Colossians 1:19-20 NIV Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. Romans 5:1-2 NIV 2. God wants us to be conscientious peacemakers. As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:1-3 NIV The Four G's of Peacemaking a. Glorify God. b. Get the log out of your eye. c. Gently restore. d. Go and Be Reconciled. Glorify God: How can I please and honor God in this situation? Get the log out of your own eye: How can I show Jesus' work in me by taking responsibility for my contribution to this conflict? The Seven A's of Confession Address everyone involved. Avoid If, But, and Maybe. Admit specifically. Acknowledge the hurt. Accept the consequences. Alter your behavior. Ask for forgiveness (and allow time). Gently restore: How can I lovingly serve others by helping them take responsibility for their contribution to this conflict? The three qualifications of a good surgeon are requisite in a reprover: He should have an eagle's eye, a lion's heart, and a lady's hand: in short, he should be endued with wisdom, courage, and meekness [gentleness]. Go and be reconciled: How can I demonstrate the forgiveness of God and encourage a reasonable solution to this conflict? "I will not dwell on this incident." "I will not bring up this incident again and use it against you." "I will not talk to others about this incident." "I will not let this incident stand between us or hinder our personal relationship." Believers prove their relation to God by making peace with others.

They simply wanted to "go deeper" into the Scriptures. They wanted to go beyond the "simple" exegesis of Paul, and by giving the people and events allegorical meaning, simple stories would reveal fantastic truths. They did not set out to abandon the gospel ... but in fact their progressive accretions smothered the gospel.-Hughes and Chapell

Sun, 16 Apr 2023 - 51min - 293 - The New You: Resurrection And Regeneration - 1 Peter 1:3-25
1. The new birth is a must. And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience - among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. Ephesians 2:1-4 Apart from the new birth . . . a. We are dead in our trespasses and sins (Eph. 2:1-2). b. We are by nature children of wrath (Eph. 2:3). c. We love darkness and hate the light (John 3:19-20). d. We are unable to submit to God or please God (Rom. 8:7-8). e. We are unable to accept the gospel (Eph. 4:18; 1 Cor. 2:14). f. We are unable to come to Christ or embrace him as Lord (John 6:44, 65; 1 Cor. 12:3). g. We are slaves to sin (Rom. 6:17). h. We are slaves to Satan (Eph. 2:1-2). i. No good thing dwells in us (Rom. 7:18). BUT GOD, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ - by grace you have been saved.... Ephesians 2:4-5 Diagnosis: Dead in Sin Remedy: Life with Christ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Peter 1:3 2. The new birth is a miracle. a. God regenerates. (1) God ransomed us by the blood of Jesus (1 Peter 1:18-19). (2) God raised Jesus from the dead (1 Peter 1:3-5). God supernaturally gives us life by connecting us to the resurrected Christ - through faith. (3) God called us into union with Christ (1 Peter 1:23-25). Note: Post the following highlights on one slide at the same time for the sake of review-- 2. The new birth is a miracle. God regenerates. We respond. God supernaturally gives us life by connecting us to the resurrected Christ - through faith. Now you can have real love for everyone because your souls have been cleansed from selfishness and hatred when you trusted Christ to save you; so see to it that you really do love each other warmly, with all your hearts. 1 Peter 1:22 The Living Bible

Murder always seems more pleasant when wrapped in religious considerations. No amount of spin can justify a sin. The Righteous Retribution 2 Samuel 4:9-12 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, and do many miracles in your name?' Then I will announce to them, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you lawbreakers!'" Jesus Christ (Matthew 7:21-23) God overlooked people's ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him. For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead. Acts 17:30-31 1. The promises of God require patience and purity on our part. 2. It's never right to do wrong in order to get a chance to do right. 3. Gratitude begets fidelity.

Sun, 12 Feb 2023 - 42min - 284 - Christ: The Ark Of Salvation - 1 Peter 3:18:22; Hebrews 11:6-7
God saves from his wrath those who trust in Christ. The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. So the Lord said, "I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created-and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground-for I regret that I have made them." Genesis 6:5-7 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. Genesis 6:8-10 By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. Hebrews 11:7 1. He responded to God's word. By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. Hebrews 11:7a 2. He rebuked the world. "I am not what I ought to be, I am not what I want to be, I am not what I hope to be in another world. But still I am not what I once used to be, and by the grace of God I am what I am." - John Newton 3. He received God's righteousness. By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. Hebrews 11:7 I am not ashamed of the gospel [good news], because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed - a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith." Romans 1:16-17 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

The Lord helps and upholds his people. 1. God interacts with us 1 Samuel 23:1-14 And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.Hebrews 10:19-22 Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let’s not let it slip through our fingers. We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.Hebrews 4:14-16 Saul said, “Let’s chase the Philistines all night and plunder them until sunrise. Let’s destroy every last one of them.” His men replied, “We’ll do whatever you think is best.” But the priest said, “Let’s ask God first.” So Saul asked God, “Should we go after the Philistines? Will you help us defeat them?” But God made no reply that day.1 Samuel 14:36-37 2. This man was handed over to you by God's deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him." - Peter the Apostle (Acts 2:22-24) Even in their most desperate moments, the Lord doesn't let go of his servants.
