- 272 - HALLO-WHISKEY-WEEN with Psychic Cindy Riggs
Whiskey Business has their annual Live Audience Halloween Podcast thanks to Echo Spirits in Grandview. Not only did the owners, Joe and Nikhil offer up a flight of Echo Spirits to taste, we also got a sneak 9 month peak of our own WHISKEY BUSINESS barrel which is still waiting to become bourbon. The night got more interesting when psychic, Cindy Riggs joined us. In addition to explaining what she does and how it works, she also demonstrated how remote viewing happens, where with just an address she could tell you if your home is “inhabited” by someone other than YOU. It was a fascinating night of revelations, and supernatural fun that you can enjoy this Halloween. If…you…dare. Go ahead. You’ll be fine. Tue, 22 Oct 2024 - 271 - Clark Donley: Breaking News: Dropping The Mic
Compared to Clark Donley, we here at Whiskey Business are truly the amateurs as we sat across the veteran broadcaster, Clark Donley. 40 plus years in the business that started as a disc jockey, led to sportscasting on television and then 30 more years doing the news on radio, Clark has reported it all with compassion and class and off the mic became an early force in developing Ohio’s Amber Alert program as well. As he embarks on what I consider a faux retirement, Clark has entered the podcast world with OFF THE RECORD: An FBI Agent's Perspective, a podcast detailing the behind the scenes stories and cases of retired FBI agent, Harry Trombitas. It’s a podcast full of memories, some laughter and a look at how “the news” has changed over the decades. Tue, 17 Sep 2024 - 269 - ‘Dem Buckeyes and 'Dat Demora
Two things happen this time of year on Whiskey Business. The Buckeyes start another season and to insure a winning one, Bill Demora (now Senator Demora) returns to his superstitious ways and returns to Whiskey Business. But this one is packed with more than just Buckeye Football. We caught Bill just after the Democratic Convention as well, and a lot of behind the scenes stories were revealed: the Biden Love, Back to Back Obama’s, The Beyoncé Bee Hive, and how much you could’ve scalped your ticket for on the last night of the convention. And yes, we did talk Buckeye Football before Billy lost his senatorial patience. So all will be well in Buckeye Nation as it is in this weeks episode of Whiskey Business. Go Bucks! Go Billy! Mon, 19 Aug 2024 - 267 - Nickey Winkelman, the Respectable Co-Worker
Ahead of the first of Columbus Comedy Festival, we enjoy a respectable visit with comedian Nickey Winkelman. The conversation went from comedy to real life and the REAL life that’s in comedy. Asking, what's the art of finding ways to present life situations to a comedy crowd that may also be going through them but in a relatable, funny way? We also talked about the juggling of being a mom, doing comedy and holding down a regular job where she claims the title of “Respectable Co-worker.” Enjoy the ALWAYS respectable and ALWAYS funny, Nickey Winkelman on this latest edition of Whiskey Business Don't forget to subscribe to the Whiskey Business YouTube channel Catch Nickey and Dino at the 2024 Columbus Comedy Festival Celebrate Nickey's birthday at The Attic's Friday Night Fights Follow Nickey Winkelman: Nickey on Instagram Nickey on TikTok Thanks to Gatto's Pizza in Clintonville, Ohio! Mon, 12 Aug 2024 - 266 - Beating Cancer with Bikes and Bourbon
Pelotonia is a two-day bicycle ride in the Columbus, Ohio area, to raise funds for cancer research. Our guest, Preston Stapleton is riding in it. Preston is not a cyclist by nature, but this will be his third time, putting 50 miles on the pavement and hopefully reaching his own personal fundraising goal. To sweeten the pot, he’s raffling off some very nice bottles of bourbon as well. We wish him good luck, safe cycling and hope you enjoy this latest installment of Whiskey Business. Tue, 30 Jul 2024 - 265 - Man Therapy: More Than Just A Beer With The Guys
In 2021 80% of suicides in Ohio were men. Enter MAN THERAPY, started in Colorado and adopted by Ohio in February of 2024, MAN THERAPY is a kind and yes-humorous way to approach men about therapy and feelings they never talk about because of stigmas, fears and opinions of others. Tony Coder joined Whiskey Business for a frank and again- funny podcast about men and therapy. MAN THERAPY with their faux psychiatrist, Dr. Rich Mahogany, helps men realize that’s “it’s ok to not be ok” and offers options on how to move forward. It’s not clinical. It’s not medical. But it’s definitely helpful and a great tool for getting on path to better mental health. Listen to some frank and honest discussions, revelations and maybe even take the “head test” to see where you may be or where you can direct the man in your life you care about. And then you can buy him a beer. Visit: https://mantherapy.org/ Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Wed, 10 Jul 2024 - 264 - Social Media Monster 2024: More Monster
In September of 2022, filmmaker Peter Jon Ross joined us to talk about his documentary SOCIAL MEDIA MONSTER, a film about an internet troll who he’s battled for more than a decade. It was our most listened to and watched podcast on Whiskey Business. The documentary is now out and available to stream. Ross returned to Whiskey Business to update us on the film, the battle and other amazing things that have transpired since his last visit. The story was fascinating and compelling two years ago and still is in 2024. If you’ve ever been trolled, it’s almost required listening. If you haven’t…count your blessings and listen nonetheless. Wed, 03 Jul 2024 - 263 - Getting "Down to the Felt"
Whiskey Business came back from hiatus right around the same time the largest local independent film ever made in Columbus, DOWN TO THE FELT wrapped on principal photography. Coincidence? No. Our host for Whiskey Business was one of the writers and producers of the film and he along with Director/Writer/Producer Jon Osbeck and Writer/Producer Ralph Scott, sat on the guest side of the table as John Whitney, Greg Hansberry and Chip Kocel asked all the burning movie questions. The Down To The Felt story is a journey into independent filmmaking and still has the post production process to go through. But it IS a testament to what can be done in Columbus, Ohio with the right talents, the right crew and yeah…a little bit of luck and serendipity. Mon, 27 May 2024 - 262 - The Just Sweats Murder Case: A Whiskey Business Deposition Part 2
The tables are still turned on this installment of Whiskey Business as our host, Dino Tripodis, was the guest. The topic was a True Crime case he was instrumental in solving. A case of MURDER! No, he didn’t commit it, but he was an integral part in the pursuit of the people who did. The Just Sweats Case was an insurance fraud for murder case that started in 1988 and ended in 1992 with John Hawkins, the alleged mastermind behind the whole plot being the last one apprehended and tried and convicted for conspiracy to commit murder. Attorney, Bill Mattes, is back to navigate it all, digging deep into the case. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Tue, 07 May 2024 - 261 - The Just Sweats Murder Case: A Whiskey Business Deposition Part 1
The tables were turned on this installment of Whiskey Business as our host, Dino Tripodis was the guest and the topic was a True Crime case he was instrumental in. A case of MURDER. His partners, Melvin Hanson and Richard Boggs were apprehended and convicted FOR the murder of Ellis Greene prior to Hawkin’s capture. And…they almost got away with it. Interviewed by attorney, Bill Mattes, who left no stone unturned and in turn brought out ghosts that Dino had not confronted in decades, you need to listen or watch and find out the part our host played in initiating the hunt and the subsequent lessons learned that stick with him more than 35 years later. Thu, 02 May 2024 - 260 - Hope Madden & George Wolf: OSCAR-HEIMER!
Another Oscar year is nearing but it wouldn’t be official for us here at Whiskey Business without our annual visit from George Wolf and Hope Madden from The Screening Room podcast. There may appear to be some slam dunks if you’re in an Oscar pool, but I’m going to suggest you listen up/or watch to see if some upsets are predicted as well in our discussion of Oscar gold. If you love the movies it’s one of our favorite podcasts of the year. And if you only saw BARBIE, this is your chance to get educated before Oscars are awarded on March 10, 2024. Mon, 04 Mar 2024 - 259 - Martin Kennedy & Pat Byrne: GO BUA OR GO HOME
Whiskey Business loves being the first kid on the block with something special and on this podcast we got the sneak peek of some NEW Irish Whiskeys from BUA which originates here in Columbus but is made with tender, Irish care in Ireland. What I called “fightin’ whiskey was a single grain but there were also some single malts that were finished in tawny port casks, ALL of them great including the BUA Original which has come a long way since we sampled Batch #1 a few years back. Great whiskey coupled with great stories from Martin and Pat made for a great podcast that went “into the wee” hours of the evening and probably could gone on even more. Enjoy this batch of podcasting with a good pour, but if I were you…I’d bring the whole bottle. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Mon, 19 Feb 2024 - 258 - Steve Dimon: The O.G. of Influencers
A “lobbyist” is NOT a strange person who hangs out in hotel lobbies. Got it. They are however, the behind the scenes movers and shakers of influence; be it political, business related or other miscellaneous agendas. Steve Dimon has been a lobbyist for 30 plus years and gave us an inside look into the job that some deem as evil while others consider it a needed ally for success. What are YOUR perceptions? Sun, 11 Feb 2024 - 257 - The Mayor of Swartytown, Dan Swarthout
It’s easy to see why we think Dan is "The Man" on this particular podcast because our good friend, Dan Swarthout has worn many hats over the course of his life: lawyer, comedian, Mayor of Powell, Ohio, 18+ years of comedically prepping a crowd before the start of Ohio Lottery’s Cash Explosion TV show (taking a breath here) “early” podcast pioneer, and TV historian! The show could’ve been, in length, about any of the above, but we tried to cover them all and in the process went down some delightful rabbit holes that will surprise and please. Wed, 31 Jan 2024 - 256 - Leather and Oak Spirits: 100% In So Many Ways
Whiskey Business kicked off the New Year with a new bourbon and a fairly new distillery to usher in 2024. Leather and Oak Spirits founded in 2019 out of Hilliard, Ohio joined the podcast as Steve Lambert and Dave Sheppard shared their journey with not only a fine bourbon but also a nice limoncello that the boys crank out with love and care. The bourbon was about as old school as you could get. 100% corn. The limoncello was about as old country as you could get as they eventually got the recipe from a lovely Italian woman who finally caved and allowed Steve and Dave to share it with the world. It’s a fun chat about the love of whiskey and more importantly the time and care that goes into making a good one. Here we go, people! Whiskey Business is back! Learn more about your ad choices. Mon, 18 Dec 2023 - 254 - Mike Larsen: The Comedy of Politics, When SOMEBODY Needs To Tell Joke!
Comedian Mike Larsen returned to Whiskey Business and was locked and comedically loaded to talk about the aftermath of November 7th voting in Ohio, while also taking a peek at the presidential election in 2024. Politics are always divisive but if we don’t find a way to laugh, we cry. No tears on this episode. The conversation got serious at times but laughter was never too far away. Larsen, who had a long career in television comedy writing while living in Los Angeles actually ran for office here in Ohio when he decided to call it career in Hollywood and come back to simpler ways of living. Yeah. So run for office. Thats simple. He witnessed the political machinery first hand and came away “funnier” and wiser for the experience. Enjoy this episode as we offer up humor, empathy, apathy, some objectivity and as is the case with politics- no real answers. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Sat, 18 Nov 2023 - 253 - The Jury Room: Judging Ghosts. Our Live Audience Halloween “Oddcast”
Whiskey Business took it on the road for our annual Halloween episode in front of a live audience. Recorded at The Jury Room, this bar is considered to be one of the most haunted public drinking establishments in Ohio. From murdering Madams to bereaved and suicidal fathers, we covered a lot of supernatural bases with the bar’s owner, Megan Dempsey and our very own Ghost Whisperer, Ralph Scott. Are you a believer? This podcast may give you pause and make you wonder if you’re not. Also in the mix was Chris Hamel who joined us to talk about the upcoming Nightmares Film Festival coming to The Gateway Theater in Columbus. Who knows? Maybe you’re coming to it as it’s been dubbed “The Cannes of the horror film genre.” A spooky good time was had by all along with special mixes of alcoholic “spirits”concocted by our friend, Jesse Hubbard. Tune in. If…you…dare. Eh. That’s too much. Just listen. It’s good. Cheers. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Mon, 09 Oct 2023 - 252 - Kari Jones and Mike Messina: Only Ups for Down Syndrome
October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and for years, Dino has been a huge advocate for the families and The Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio which you may commonly know as DSACO. But there’s nothing common about these families and the organization. On the heels of another successful DSACO BUDDY WALK, it gave us great pleasure to welcome Kari Jones and Mike Messina to share stories, insights, progress and what’s still left to do further awareness and education. There’s also information about a great event with FADO’S and Clyde Mays Whiskey taking place on October 11 that will bring whiskey lovers and supporters together for a magical night. Mon, 02 Oct 2023 - 251 - THE BOCCE BROS: My Balls Ain’t Bigger, They’re Just Better.
And now that we have your attention, we’re talking about Bocce, as Chris and Dante Lovell, AKA The Bocce Bros returned to Whiskey Business to talk about the rising popularity of the sport, be you a casual player or a competitive one. But as is the case on our show we went down several paths: sibling rivalries, family, relationships, crazy stories from the past and yeah…some metaphorical “ball busting.” All if it accompanied by a bottle of Sagamore Rye which went down faster than a striking bocce ball. A lot of fun. A lot of laughs. And a lot of whiskey. (They dove into my stash once the Sagamore was drained.) Pickleball ain’t nothin’! Bocce, baby…Bocce. Enjoy. Learn more about your ad choices. Tue, 19 Sep 2023 - 250 - Bill Demora: Senator Superstitious
Bill Demora returned to Whiskey Business as we had to accommodate his annual rite of football passage and have him on to ensure at the very least…a winning season for THE Ohio State Buckeyes. This time around the superstitious landscape was a little different as he is now a state Senator for Ohio and his commitment to the office could incur havoc to his firmly entrenched traditions. We discussed the season, the QB situation, what happens if Coach Ryan Day loses three in a row to Michigan and would he run for office again if for some reason the Buckeyes lost with this change in his work dynamic. Insane? Yeah. It was. But fun as hell to watch or listen to. Can a Buckeye season hinge on one man? He seems to think so. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Wed, 30 Aug 2023 - 249 - Jesse Hubbard: Punk Rock, Cocktails…and Barry Manilow?
Longtime friend of Whiskey Business, Jesse Hubbard returned to the podcast to talk about his recent book, Punk Rock and Cocktails Vol. 2 but of course the conversation drifted into so much more in respects to music. First concerts, fave concerts, what decade do you wish you could’ve musically lived in, and yeah…Barry Manilow confessions. A good time shared over a bottle Willet Family Estate Small Batch Rye, it was another for the books along with a “book” you should add to you collection. Learn more about your ad choices. Mon, 07 Aug 2023 - 248 - And Then Greg’s Dad Showed Up…
Whiskey Business got reacquainted with itself as The Boys have been busy in their own worlds outside the podcast. Trips to Tulsa, vacations in Michigan, a taping for true crime episode for Oxygen, and a short stand in The World Series of Poker. Oh, and Greg’s dad joined us. A delightful chat with John Hansberry which gave us a little more insight into our audio producer, Greg who I affectionately refer to as “the son I never wanted.” A fun podcast with a bottle of E.H. Tue, 13 Jun 2023 - 246 - Echo Spirits: The Echo of Bourbon, Bourbon, Bourbon...
The boys of Echo Spirits, Nikhil Sharoff and Joe Bidinger returned to Whiskey Business to get down to some, well…Whiskey Business. On the heels of their recently released rye, the boys have introduced not one but TWO new bourbons to their stable. I mean, if you’re gonna make a bourbon why not throw a single barrel into the mix why you’re doing it, right? Tue, 18 Apr 2023 - 244 - Magnolia Spirits: “I Do So Love Magnolia In The Spring”
While that may sound like something you would say while sitting on the front porch in the South, it was instead a tasting of some mighty fine whiskey from Ed Carey and Magnolia Spirits. The former real estate developer, Ed took his love of the sweet, brown liquor and made it his own with currently three blended products which are smooth, rich in flavor and sure to please the most discriminate whiskey drinker. We sampled a wheated bourbon, a rye and a barrel proof whiskey. Each seemingly as good as the other, though we all had a favorite. Ed’s philosophy is simple. Bottle some good whiskey and share it with good friends. Mission accomplished on this week’s Whiskey Business. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Mon, 03 Apr 2023 - 243 - EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE, ALL AT…OSCAR!
Hard to believe it’s been a year already, but Whiskey Business had its Annual Oscar Podcast with George Wolf and Hope Madden from The Screening Room Podcast to determine who will Oscar gold. While it seems that Everything, Everywhere looks like a slam dunk and may carry the night, the conversation did drift to some potential upsets and dug even deeper into what makes an Oscar nominated picture or performance a “winner.” No matter which way it goes on Oscar night THIS years annual podcast is definitely a lock, so check it out before you fill out those ballots for your Oscar party. “And the winner is…Whiskey Business!” Eh…we can dream. Tue, 07 Mar 2023 - 242 - James Hagerty: Yeah, I’m Dead, But Read How I Lived
James Hagerty, author of the new book, YOURS TRULY, A Guide To Writing Life Stories, joined Whiskey Business and left us with a lesson: you don’t have to be famous to leave your story behind. Having written 900 plus obituaries for the Wall Street Journal, James takes his gift and shares the stories of how people lived rather than dwell on the loss of their departure from this world. It made for an introspective night of questions, self awareness and the reminder that we only die once, but we “live” for much longer and how we lived is what people should remember. Mon, 27 Feb 2023 - 241 - Senator Bill Demora: Don’t Call Me Senator…I’m Still Bill
Like the plot of a classic Frank Capra movie, a frequent guest on Whiskey Business returned to the podcast with for a different reason. Our friend, Bill Demora, aka The World’s Most Superstitious Buckeye Fan sat down with us this time as the now Honorable William P. Demora, Ohio Senator. Find out how this all happened and while honored to have the elected position why our friend wants everyone to know “he’s still, Bill.” Referring to himself as “the accidental Senator” it’s a position he’s humbled to have and does not take lightly. His passion for the job is evident and the commitment is real. Don’t worry, he’s not leaving his beloved Buckeyes behind. But now Ohio State has a #1 fan in the Ohio Senate, and that passion for what happens on the field may now be channeled to the Senate floor as well. Learn more about your ad choices. Tue, 14 Feb 2023 - 240 - James Canepa: OH!…LQ!
Jim Canepa, the Superintendent of Ohio Liquor Control, once again joined Whiskey Business for an overdue visit to talk about where things are at with liquor in Ohio and I’m pleased to say our glass remains full and then some. A job that was supposed to last 6 weeks for Jim when initially asked to “fix” a few things for the state, has fortunately become a permanent position and Ohio is better for it. Ranking 4th behind much larger states like California, Texas, and Florida, Ohio continues to step up its game. The visit with Jim is always informative but always fun as he also brought some whiskeys that were NOT bourbons that bourbon lovers would most likely embrace in a big way. (I could drink a water glass full of one of them. That’s how smooth and tasty one of them was.) So enjoy this latest podcast with The Boss of Ohio Booze. Mon, 06 Feb 2023 - 239 - How To Get Out Of A DUI Part 2: Over the Limit
OVER THE LIMIT(what you should know about breathalyzer machines and getting pulled over for drunk driving) Whiskey Business kicked off the year with guest “Super Lawyer” Jon Saia and his vast knowledge of OVI laws and the technology of the breathalyzer machines that amazingly can work for AND against you. EVEN IF YOU HAVEN’T had a drop of alcohol! Everyone metabolizes alcohol differently. Dino had 7 shots of Jack Daniel’s and blew under the limit. John Whitney nursed a drink and a half and almost blew OVER the limit. Greg Hansberry, who is doing a Dry January, ate 2 pieces of Wonder Bread and still registered on the machine. How? Why? What?!!!! The fascinating information is in this first podcast of the year with the big takeaway message being, DON’T DRIVE DRUNK. But..if you’re a “I’m fine, I got this” drinker then listen or watch this podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Tue, 20 Dec 2022 - 237 - Scott Morris: Take Me Down To Comic Town
Whiskey Business got their freak and geek on (proud card carrying members) and enjoyed a visit with Scott Morris from Comic Town. They got into what’s hot, what’s not and what might be hot in the future. And let’s not forget the Whiskey Business rabbit holes…We went down a few of those as well discussing how comics reflect American History and the impact of comics through the years, and why I identify with The Batman. Oh, and sadly we found out that Hansberry’s Crack’d comics are worth less than what he paid for them. Not every book can be HULK #181. Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. Mon, 05 Dec 2022 - 236 - Henry Allen: There’s No Business Like Joke Business
Comedian Henry Allen joined Whiskey Business to talk about the current biz of comedy. Henry started doing standup when he was 17 years old and now being the wily veteran at 30, he had some interesting and funny views about where comedy was when he started and where it is now; what’s funny, what’s taboo and how the politically correct chains may be loosening a bit. As is always the case on Whiskey Business, we go down a few rabbit holes as well. All of it accompanied by a bottle of Bardstown Fusion #5. Thu, 10 Nov 2022 - 235 - Whiskey Business 2022 Halloween Special: Spooky Boozness
Whiskey Business got a jump on Halloween with a live audience at 451 SPIRITS and our first LIVE Halloween Special. Buckright, sharing tales of ghostly phenomenon from his new book, HAUNTED CEMETERIES OF OHIO. We wrap it up chatting with Jesse Hubbard, author and bartender extraordinary who made a special concoction for the evening and Chad Kessler of 451 Spirits as we enjoyed his BONE SHAKER whiskey throughout the night. Attorney Bret Adams and host of the podcast, Lawyers Are A**holes, joined Whiskey Business for a “spirited” chat about the problems with the legal system, being a sports agent and actually “buying a town” in order to help south eastern Ohio become a bourbon trail of its own. A bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Rye loosened the chat up a little with hopefully nothing said that could be “used against us.” Bret will most likely return as we just scratched the surface this time out, but until that return occurs enjoy the “good pours and good conversations.” Learn more about your ad choices. Mon, 10 Oct 2022 - 233 - Jeff Gage: It Sounded Like A Good Idea At The Time
Whiskey Business went “dry” for only the second time in our history of podcasting, tossing a nod to those giving Sober September a shot and accommodating our guest, Jeff Gage who’s made a decision to stop drinking as well. Good, hot coffee was served and provided the opportunity to discuss those times when drinking didn’t turn out so well. We’ve all been there. There was humor in the stories but also lessons in the mix as well. Sometimes it’s good to take a step back and see where you’ve been with booze and more importantly where you are. Hindsight CAN BE 20/20, but only if you able to see it. Enjoy a sobering Whiskey Business and take care of yourselves. We’ll be back with another good pour and conversation in the days to come. Mon, 26 Sep 2022 - 232 - Peter Jon Ross: Social Media Monster
The Internet can be a helpful and wonderful place. But it can also serve as a platform for wicked and destructive deeds as well. Peter Jon Ross, independent filmmaker, joined Whiskey Business to talk about his festival award winning documentary, SOCIAL MEDIA MONSTER. A still in-play-as-we-speak journey of an ongoing battle with an Internet Troll who’s wreaked his own personal havoc on Peter and countless others and continues to do so. It’s a fascinating story that will make you think twice before you “click” on something and maybe give you pause before you “send” something in return. Learn more about your ad choices. Wed, 14 Sep 2022 - 231 - Coyote Peterson: Brave Whiskiness
Ok. We’re taking some liberties with the title of this week’s podcast, but not with our guest, Coyote Peterson. The YouTube phenom and creator of Brave Wilderness graced us with an an amazing podcast that traced the roots of his success, the future of his wilderness enterprise and a few stops in between which include becoming crocodile snacks, Big Foot, the REAL dangers of his work and how what he does is so much more than just being bitten or stung by some bug, spider or creature. And if everything goes to plan, Coyote may actually be taking Dino down a path that will force the Whiskey Business host to face a huge fear and phobia. We’ll see. Enjoy. And stay tuned…This adventure is just beginning. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Mon, 15 Aug 2022 - 230 - Jesse Hubbard & Chad Kessler: The Do RUM RUM, The Do RUM RUM
Whiskey Business took a libation detour to focus on an upcoming “rum” release concocted by two gentlemen who know their spirits well: Chad Kessler of 451 Spirits and author and award winning bartender, Jesse Hubbard. Chad who we affectionately refer to as the “mad scientist of distillers” in Columbus, Ohio joined forces with Jesse to create a new coffee infused rum that will delight any and all rum enthusiasts. The story of how RAG & BONE came to its fruition and how two friends put it all together gives a whole new meaning to “demon rum.” Check out this entertaining and thought provoking podcast that’s all about following your “muse” be it written, played, or in this case, eventually bottled and poured. Mon, 08 Aug 2022 - 229 - Mat Franklin: You Never Forget Your First…
You Never Forget Your First…Your first tattoo, that is. This week Whiskey Business went to TAT FRANKLIN and Dino got his first tattoo at 63 years of age and the whole procedure and conversation is on this podcast in real time, accompanied by a bottle of Master Distiller #1 from Jack Daniel’s (after I signed the paperwork granting permission.) Granted, Dino’s first tattoo wasn’t too elaborate or too intricate but it was appropriate: the molecular formula for whiskey. Mat picked out a cool manual typewriter font as well and Dino collects manual typewriters, so there was a lot of serendipity going on with this procedure. Give a listen or better yet- a view on YouTube and watch the whole thing unfold. Get answers to questions you may have. Hear some outlandish tattoo stories, and watch Mat Franklin, a true master of his craft take you through it all. Many thanks to Mat and his wife, Liz and Tat Franklin. They say tattoos are like potato chips and you can’t have just one. That may be true. Dino is already thinking of the next one. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Mon, 25 Jul 2022 - 228 - Jeff Svoboda: The Blue Jackets Is My Beat.
Columbus Blue Jackets beat reporter, Jeff Svoboda joined Whiskey Business to talk hockey, hope and “here we go again”as the NHL Draft and Free Agency has commenced. The late breaking news before we started talking was the acquisition of Johnny Hockey! Johnny Gaudreau is now a Blue Jacket and we talked about the impact that could have on the franchise. And we talked…about the Browns, football in general, hot streaks, cold streaks and enjoyed some Evan Williams Small Batch in the process. Grab your stick. Hit the ice. (In this case I mean ice cubes) And enjoy this installment of Whiskey Business. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Wed, 20 Jul 2022 - 227 - Whiskey Business: The OFFER We Could NOT Refuse
Whiskey Business consisting of Dino Tripodis, Greg Hansberry and John Whitney, voluntarily went down their own rabbit hole this week talking about the Paramount Plus limited series THE OFFER. It’s the 50th anniversary of the film The Godfather and The Offer tells the story about how one of the greatest films in history almost did not get made at all. The boys separated the fact from the fiction, indulged in their favorite performances, and even attempted some bad impressions of famed producer, Robert Evans. The Offer is Godfather candy and we ate it up. Enjoy what we enjoyed and check the series out for yourself if you haven’t done so already. “Do it, booby. Trust me. It’s Grade A,” said the bad Robert Evans impersonator. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Mon, 27 Jun 2022 - 226 - Pete Wagner: “Bonded. Jack Bonded.” (Insert Bond theme here)
Whiskey Business enjoyed another visit from Pete “Whiskey Pete” Wagner, Ambassador for Brown Forman, as we talked about and tasted the first two NEW expressions from Jack Daniel’s in 25 years. And they’re here to stay! Two great bottles: Jack Daniel’s Bonded and Jack Daniels Triple Mash are a couple of 100 proof future favorites for Jack fans and anybody who likes whiskey. Pete, of course was funny and informative and hinted (but could not confirm) some other future Jack news that we’ll just have to wait and see about. In the meantime, pick up these reasonably priced bottles and pour a glass or four while enjoying this latest installment of Whiskey Business. Learn more about your ad choices. Mon, 13 Jun 2022 - 225 - Amee Belwanzo: Oh, Your Mama DOES Rock…
Whiskey Business had a rockin’ good time with Amee Belwanzo who is part of TRASHETE, a band consisting of Amee and three other moms who write and play original music. Music being a huge part of her life since she was a kid, Amee talked about how the band started and has changed through the last decade and how it feels to be “back out there” doing what she loves and now shares with her daughter as well. Yeah…a 7yr. old who digs The Ramones? Cool, right? Enjoy this latest installment of Whiskey Business which also marks our 200th bottle on the podcast. We haven’t repeated one yet! At least we don’t think so. Hahaha! -- Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Mon, 06 Jun 2022 - 224 - Kenny Mock: You Better Mock, Mock, Mock On Wood.
Whiskey Business finally nailed down a conversation with comedian Kenny Mock, who’s been touring with fellow comedian and Tik Tok phenom, Jason Banks. To quote Jason, “Yeah, Kenny is getting too funny. He’s making my job harder.” One of the best compliments one comic can give another. The usually quiet and private Kenny opened up quite a bit with Dino, Greg and John and still kept bringing the funny as we covered family, life, how comedians source their material and if there’s such a thing as “unintentional racism” in these complicated politically correct times. A great conversation accompanied by a bottle of Yellowstone Hand Picked Single Barrel made for great podcast that begs for Kenny Mock to return for another round of Whiskey Business. Mon, 16 May 2022 - 223 - Marc Heuck: The Projector Has Been Drinking…Again!
Whiskey Business was thrilled to have one of the best movie bloggers in the business, Marc Heuck from The Projector Has Been Drinking (and so much more. Google him) back for an overdue visit. The evening consisted of conversations ranging from movies, their history, Quentin Tarantino, and even an emotional peeling back of HEUCK himself. Accompanied appropriately by a bottle of Dorothy Arzner straight rye whiskey from Francis Ford Coppola (yeah, she factors into this podcast too), the night was a serendipitous evening of insight, laughter and more from one of the most delightfully eccentric, genius minds I’ve had the pleasure to call “friend.” Enjoy. Tue, 03 May 2022 - 222 - Hope Madden: ROOST (The Book)
Just after Easter comes a debut novel from Hope Madden that will make you think twice about the joys of Easter Sunday. Dino, Greg and John sat down with Hope and discussed the wonderfully creepy novel. Without providing any spoilers, we got into Hope’s writing process, her frame of references and if the old adage, “write what you know” is true. If so…it makes ROOST that much more of fun and curious read. Normally when we talk to Hope it’s about movies along with her husband George Wolf. This time around it’s all Hope and what exactly is at “roost” in her new book. Enjoy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Mon, 18 Apr 2022 - 221 - Greg Dettorre: THE CLASS OF 1977 (Were those the days?)
We certainly thought so as Dino and the Whiskey Business boys sat down with one of Dino’s oldest and best friends, Greg Dettorre. The two friends will be celebrating their 45th class reunion later this year and took the opportunity to reminisce, pine and laugh for 90 plus minutes as they reviewed moments of their lives that seem liked they happened last week let alone 45 years ago. Learn about “The Dognut Rule.” Who did Dino and Greg BOTH have a crush on but didn’t know until this podcast? What was “THE WALL?” And did you have a similar place growing up? The guest bottle was also from the past: a bottle of Seagrams VO mixed with Fresca to capture the memory of what we thought were “cocktails” back in the day. If you want to laugh, then listen or watch. If you want to remember fonder and easier times in your life, then listen or watch. Either way this installment of Whiskey Business is one for the Yearbooks! Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Mon, 11 Apr 2022 - 220 - Jeb Bigelow: Gettin’ Jebby With It
No. Not jiggy. We’ve had enough of that this week. Dino and the Whiskey Business boys had an amazing chat with Jeb Bigelow, who some 30 years ago started his OWN awards show, THE JEBBY’S, which has now become a staple of recognition and achievement in the Central Ohio Theater community. Picked entirely by Jeb there is no “BEST” awards. Instead there are “FAVORITES” and what’s more amazing is how many people now want the distinction and honor of winning one. Jeb attends between 80 to 120 theater performances a year. A full time job which he is NOT compensated for. His real job? A pharmacist. Yup. We talk about that as well in this fun and insightful installment which also included some excellent pours from a one of a kind bottle of Old Forester Single Barrel/Barrel Strength Bourbon which was a private pick for the Columbus Italian Club. Rarities all around on this week’s Whiskey Business! Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Mon, 28 Mar 2022 - 218 - Hope Madden & George Wolf: Is There A BEST Picture?
Oscar season is rolling around which meant another informative and entertaining podcast with our movie experts, George Wolf and Hope Madden. Through the years their predictions have stayed in the 95 percentile of “nailing it” as to who would walk away with Oscar gold. But this year there’s an interesting twist as our usually “on the same page couple” split on what they think will be Best Picture. What did they pick? Why did they pick it? Is this the movie they WANT to win or the movie they THINK will win? So many other questions as well and…(What?! Music? I’m being played off? Are you kidding me? Fine.) Mon, 14 Mar 2022 - 217 - Fat Tuesday and How Deadly ARE The 7 Deadly Sins?
The Whiskey Business Boys brought in the Lenten season with a Fat Tuesday to be remembered. A Crave Case of White Castles and a liter of Old Crow was the indulgence of the night. And with Sloth and Gluttony covered, we discussed the remaining 7 Deadly Sins. Enjoy this indulgent episode which included our honorary member of the group, Chip Kocel chiming in on the fun. After months of anticipation, what took place on a November night at Watershed Distillery along with Whiskey Business finally became a reality as Dino, Greg and John saw their Private Selection Pick of Watershed Bourbon get released into the whiskey wild. The 4 year old single barrel, barrel strength bourbon clocked in at around 119 proof with a warm, fruity nose, spicy palette, and smooth warm finish that hugs for good long bit after making its way in. Award-winning podcaster, Todd Jones from PRESS BOX ACCESS on the Evergreen Podcast Network, joined Dino and the boys once again to talk about the blurred lines between sports and entertainment. Remember when The Rose Bowl was the end all be all of college football? Eh. Remember when we didn’t need a 4 hour Selection Sunday Show to find out who was going where? Lots was discussed. The Buckeyes, The Bearcats, a remembrance of college football past when #1 was a pick made after a handful of bowl games on New Years Day. We also dived into what Todd does on his podcast: talking to the sportswriters who wrote passionately about the games and battles they watched and reported on It’s sports. It’s history. Matt Benjamin joined the podcast to discuss his reasons for taking the journey and how it’s changed his life for the better. Is it a cure for addiction, mental illnesses, depression and so many other things that one can’t find on their own? Or is it just a “trip” down another hallucinogenic rabbit hole? Tue, 09 Nov 2021 - 206 - Alex Hastie: Take Me Out To The Brawl Game
Alex Hastie, host of Ohio v The World, joined Whiskey Business to talk about one of the biggest fiascos in baseball promotion history: 10 CENT BEER NIGHT at Cleveland Municipal Stadium in June of 1974. The stars misaligned as the Indians took on the Rangers in what is arguably one of the most messed up baseball games ever. Streakers, fights, bare breasted women, theft, arrests, injuries and of course…10 CENT BEERS. What could possibly go wrong? Um…only everything. Enjoy, learn and…have a beer? Nah…stick to whiskey. Mon, 25 Oct 2021 - 205 - Anne Dimmick & Fr. Nic Ventura: The Horror and The Holy
This year's annual Halloween episode on Whiskey Business may just be our most unconventional holiday episode to date. Yeah, there’s scary stuff in it; Anne Dimmick from Watershed Distillery dealing with a demon in a hotel room. And her Catholic faith came into play as well when she sought out the guidance of Fr. Nic Ventura. What Fr. Nic brought to the table was some fascinating insight into evil itself. Have you ever been told to “sage” your house to rid it of a negative or evil presence? Fr. Nic will tell you why that might be a mistake. Faith, the supernatural, religion, demonic possession and of course some fine Watershed bourbons to keep us company through it all. Wed, 06 Oct 2021 - 203 - Gary Jones & Chris Hahn: ESCAPE FROM DEATH BLOCK 13
The title says it all, but the movie Gary Jones made says the rest. Whiskey Business dove into the realm of lower budget action movies with Writer/Director Gary Jones and Chris Hahn who plays Bunyan in the film. A fun, funny and fascinating conversation about the trials and tribulations of making movies took place with insights into how to make something BIG with a small, less-than-standard Hollywood budget. Filmed in Ohio, the film has notable and familiar actors like Nick Turturro and Lawrence Hilton Jacobs and star Robert Bronzi who bears an uncanny resemblance to Charles Bronson. Tune in and find out why that was by design. We also (by design) shared a bottle of Big House bourbon. That seemed appropriate since we were talking about a prison film. So give a listen. Mon, 27 Sep 2021 - 202 - Billy Demora: ONE MORA TIME (and that’s it!)
Whiskey Business entertained the return of The Most Superstitious Buckeye Fan In The World, Bill Demora…one more time. Not to get an update on his superstitions. We’ve covered that. This was more of an “intervention” on the superstitions as we told him “It has to stop!” What follows is another humorous discussion (with rationalizations from Billy) as to why it can’t AND the only way it CAN come to an end. And no, it’s not us killing him. Lol. Enjoy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Sun, 29 Aug 2021 - 199 - Watershed Whiskey Business Barrel Pick
Whiskey Business went on location to Columbus' Watershed Distillery for a very special podcast. We were asked to help pick their next single barrel selection...what we didn't know was that the bottle we selected would be an exclusive Whiskey Business release! Needless to say we were honored, flattered and then we got serious about the juice we were tasting knowing that our name would be on the bottles. It was another magical night at Watershed Distillery full of laughs, information, and (Shhhhhh!) even some secrets were revealed. Mon, 12 Jul 2021 - 193 - Travis Irvine: Podcast Palooza
Usually with one guest you’ll get into one topic. But not with Travis Irvine. On his second appearance on Whiskey Business we covered a lot of bases: Politics, the pandemic, getting Covid in Wyoming, a new documentary he directed on how America killed someone’s mother and even a little bit of professional soccer. Always entertaining and always surprising, Travis breezed through an hour and probably could’ve gone an hour more. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles still in the box. Ashes from the Mt. St. Helens eruption. This week (with John out of town) Dino and Greg sit down across the table from each other and record a show the "Good Old Fashioned Way" aka...just two mics and a bottle of brown stuff. They have a pour and make conversation about where we're at as things seem to be retuning to some sense of normalcy. Did anything good come out of the pandemic? Did we discover anything about ourselves or others? Will pants become an everyday thing again? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Mon, 17 May 2021 - 186 - Jesse Hubbard: Punk Rock and Cocktails
Whiskey Business welcomed back renowned bartender, Jesse Hubbard and this time around he didn’t mix a single drink! This podcast is all about his new book "Punk Rock and Cocktails". Hubbard paired 20 of his favorite punk rock bands with 20 unique cocktails to make and sip while you read. We also shared a bottle of Blue Note bourbon from Memphis, Tennessee which is quickly making a name for itself. They will be on the podcast in late May to talk more about their Memphis mix. This was also the return of “face to face” podcasting as we slowly get back to some sense of normalcy. Remote podcasts have been fun, but nothing compares to sharing a pour and conversation with friends in the same room. Enjoy this podcast. We sure as hell did. Cheers! Thu, 01 Apr 2021 - 183 - Erin Go BUA
Dino and the boys had the pleasure of welcoming Pat Byrne of Byrne’s Pub to Whiskey Business to discuss a much anticipated St. Patrick’s Day a year after bars and restaurants were shut down, AND...his own Irish Whiskey BUA. BUA made its debut last February in 2020, but when the world shutdown so did the opportunity to share this fine whiskey in bars and restaurants. A year later BUA is making a name for itself and deservedly so. This smooth drinking, triple distilled, non chilled filtered whiskey can stand tall amongst all the other Irish Whiskey favorites out there. BUA is Gaelic for “win” or “victory”. Yup. That makes good sense. Enjoy the BUA. Enjoy the podcast and stay safe people. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Mon, 01 Feb 2021 - 176 - NOSTRA-DEMORA
Whiskey Business kicks of 2021 with some remnants of 2020 as Billy Demora returns to address some of his rather accurate predictions that came to fruition the last time he joined us and also speculates on the weeks and months to come in respects to sports, politics and life as we live it in these still uncertain days. We also opened our 151st bottle on the show: Heaven Hill 7 year Bottled in Bond. That wasn’t predicted so much as planned. A great bottle if you venture out of Ohio and find one. We have high hopes and expectations for 2021 and we sincerely look forward to getting back to something that smacks of normalcy with all of you along for the ride. Mon, 21 Dec 2020 - 174 - Rocky, Rudy, and A Field of Dreams?
What are the Best Sports Movies of all time? We won't necessarily answer that question on this week’s Whiskey Business, but if you’re looking for lively debate, passion and cinematic controversy tossed in with a lot of laughs then look no further. With a bottle of Watershed’s Barrel Proof Bourbon aged in Nocino Barrels as our 150th bottle on the podcast, this one has something for just about everyone who is a fan of the genre. It also begs the question...why isn’t drinking a sport? If is was, we'd all be Olympians! Mon, 16 Nov 2020 - 172 - The Road to Aberlour
Whiskey Business went on a virtual journey and crossed a bridge back to “scotch whiskey” with the assistance of National Ambassador for Aberlour Scotch, Gemma Cole. The trip was delightful, educational and as I mentioned a nice bridge back to single malt whiskey. Aberlour will bring a lot of people back to the Single Malt fold as Gemma took Dino and the boys through 3 tastings: The Aberlour 12 year Speyside Single Malt, the Aberlour A’bunadh and the Aberlour A’Bunadh Alba. Our favorite? Tune in or watch on YouTube to find out. If you are looking for a smooth transition to reacquaint yourself with some single malt scotch, look and sip right here!
