She utilises games as a medium to explore social structures and civilisations of both the past and the present, placing games in the broader spectrum of interactive performative acts such as rituals, immersive theatre, festivals, and dance. She specialises in world building, narrative design, and environmental storytelling. Her Game Center graduate thesis “Chronicles of the Sea” explores the possibilities of telling historical narratives by combining museology with embedded language puzzles. She currently teaches at University of East London.

This week we have our special creative episode - our guests are Olga, Andy and their small little daughter Eva, a family of photographers working with a variety of technologies - starting from analog photography, going to digital and now adopting some AI tech to speed up the editing process. Olga is a self taught photographer, she started shooting people in the streets and at home in 2014. Andy has got PhD in Optics in 2009 - hence he is educated in all the math and magic of light. With that knowledge, he started photography, and in 2010-2011 shot medium format film portraits, later switching to portrait, headshot, nude, documentary, model test and lifestyle photography - almost anything human related. They opened Pure Light photography studio a couple of years ago. As well, recently they’ve started teaching photography at their studio, explaining all the interesting aspects of light, work with people and studio shoots.

HaZ started his career in video games before moving into visual effects (The Dark Knight, Hellboy2) where he was nominated for several VES awards for his work on shows for History and BBC, leading to him transitioning to Directing & Producing with his breakout indie sci-fi feature film THE BEYOND in 2018.

On April 23rd 2024, HaZ’s stylish sci-fi animated feature film MAX BEYOND was released, utilising the Unreal Engine technology, and he has already been hailed as a pioneer in real-time technology filmmaking by Epic Games. He is also known as an early adopter of Virtual production, when he directed the short film PERCIVAL utilising the LED Volume stage. HaZ is also known to be the one of the first creators to utilise a Transmedia approach between film and games inside UEFN (unreal engine fortnite) with the launch of the Fortnite game: Moontopia, which received big media coverage including Edge Magazine and Epic Spotlight. He is also currently working as the cinematic director on the game: DUNE- Awakening which is currently in production.

He and his team created a prototype Metaverse for the principality of Monaco for tourism, over 15 years ago. From this work Jamil and his colleague, Jesus, created and patented Virtually Live which allows fans to experience live events. With Virtually Live you would be able to race with Formula E drivers, while the race is still on in real life or attend a football game and watch the game live from any point of view with your friends from around the world. This is a special bonus episode from our chat with Mohamed Ezeldin of Animoca Brands. We had to edit out this piece to keep within our time limit, but it was worth sharing as a separate episode.

In this short extract, we talked about how we can bring in existing gaming communities into the Metaverse. Right now, the communities that have the best chances of adopting the Metaverse (gaming communities) are skeptical about the Metaverse movement and how it could impact the gaming industry, with many large gaming companies suffering huge backlash at even the mention of considering adopting technologies like NFTs into their games (NFTs are often considered to go hand-in-hand with the Metaverse).

We also touch on AI and how this might impact the Metaverse. We all agreed this will have a positive impact on the Metaverse movement as a whole.
