  • 5 - Community: Encourage each other to love and good works

Because of who Jesus Christ is, and because of who you are in Jesus Christ, you no longer have to be inward focused. You no longer have to think of church in terms of what you can get out of it. Instead, it is essential that when we come to church, we come with a resolve to stir each other up to faithfulness.

  • 4 - Discipleship: Jesus and Peter

In many different trades or professions, anyone who wants to work will have to go through a period of training. You go through a period of study and then applied learning before you begin working as a professional in your own right. Many professions require continuing education for the rest of a person’s career. That’s what discipleship is like. It’s helping someone go from knowing very little about God and his word, and then helping him or her to train, to study, to grow. That’s what discipleship is like.

  • 3 - Core Values: An Invitation to True Worship

In Matthew 17, Jesus has just pulled aside three of his disciples—Peter, James, and John. He brings them up on the mountain, and all of a sudden, he was changed. His clothes were bright white. His face shone like the sun. And he was talking to Moses and Elijah. Peter offers to build three tabernacles, one to honor each of them. Before Peter could even finish, they hear a voice from heaven saying “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” When they hear the voice they all fall to the ground. Jesus picks them back up again. Now, Jesus is the only one they see. At the center of this passage is an act of worship.

  • 2 - Core Values: The Bible

God is a God who communicates to us and he intends to be understood by us. And he has communicated with us in so many ways—in so many varieties of ways—that if we’re honest with ourselves, we simply cannot deny that God’s word is true. We cannot deny it. Today, as we look at the text of Psalm 19, we are going to make three observations about the way God communicates with us in general, but more specifically about God’s Word, the Bible. First we’ll see that General Revelation displays the Glory of God. Second, we’ll see that Special Revelation declares the character of God. Then third, the Bible demonstrates our need for God. (1) General Revelation displays the glory of God. (2) Special revelation declares the character of God. (3) The Bible demonstrates our need for God.
