- 391 - Why I Am a Premillennialist – Part 2 (of 2)
Dr. Alan Kurschner continues his discussion about Premillennialism in part 2 given at the Things to Come conference at Zion's Hope last January. In this message, he highlights Satan's confinement in the abyss, and asks if it is relative or absolute. How one answers this question is crucial for understanding the End Times.
Mon, 18 Nov 2024 - 24min - 390 - Revelation: “A Director’s Commentary” – Chapter 20
Marquis Laughlin, founder of Acts of The Word Ministries, continues his chapter-by-chapter Director’s Commentary on the book of Revelation.
In this episode he discusses the culmination of God’s plan for the ages, the end of evil, and the glorious 1000-year reign of Christ found in Chapter 20.
Wed, 13 Nov 2024 - 27min - 389 - Why I Am a Premillennialist – Part 1 (of 2)
Dr. Alan Kurschner explains many reasons why he embraces Pre-Millennialism. He explains various views on the Millennium, and gives particular emphasis on the victory of Jesus and binding of Satan.
This was Part 1 of 2 parts given at the Things to Come conference at Zion's Hope last January.
Mon, 11 Nov 2024 - 37min - 388 - Christ’s Teachings About the Second Coming (Part 5)
Ron Wallace, Bible teacher with The Bible Fragrances Biblical Studies Institute, contonues with part 5 of Christ's Teachings about His Second Coming.
In this episode, Ron looks at Luke 17:20-37. He will review what has been taught about the Kingdom of God because of the question to Jesus, "When will the kingdom of God come?"
Ron will also teach about a very important statement made by Jesus: "The days are coming when you will long for one of the days of the Son of Man AND YOU WILL NOT SEE IT."
Dinally, in this passage, we will see proof that the ones who are taken to the side of the Lord at the rapture, mentioned in Matthew 24:40, are not - and cannot be - ones who are taken in judgment as illustrated by the ones taken away at the flood.
Fri, 08 Nov 2024 - 50min - 387 - Revelation: “A Director’s Commentary” – Chapter 19
Marquis Laughlin, founder of Acts of The Word Ministries, discusses Revelation chapter 19 as part of his Director’s Commentary series.
While addressing several classic misperceptions surrounding Christ’s return to conquer the kings of the earth and reign victoriously, Marquis provides an eye-opening look at the glorious prophecies of our Lord’s future victory over the power of Satan, the Antichrist, and his false prophet.
Wed, 06 Nov 2024 - 31min - 386 - The Great Commission As It Relates to a Supposed ‘Any Moment’ Rapture
Dr. Alan Kurschner explained why the Great Commission contradicts pretribulation ‘any moment’ rapture theology. In several of his end-time passages, Jesus uses expressions such as the “end” (telos) and “end of the age” (synteleias tou aiōnos). The Olivet Discourse began with the question from his disciples about the end: “As he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, his disciples came to him privately and said, ‘Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign of your coming (parousia) and of the end of the age?’” (Matt 24:3).
Tue, 05 Nov 2024 - 13min - 385 - Christ’s Teachings About the Second Coming (Part 4)
Ron Wallace brings part 4 of his series on Christ’s teachings about His second coming and today will look at two parables of servants in Luke 12: those servants who have trusted in Christ as Savior are the prepared ones, and these will be taken at the rapture when Christ returns. Those servants who have not trusted in Christ are unprepared and will be left behind.
Ron will also give some thoughts about the two Divine mandates, self-defense; those who never heard the gospel, and more on the false theory of degrees of punishment in hell.
Fri, 01 Nov 2024 - 43min - 384 - Revelation: “A Director’s Commentary” – Chapter 18
Marquis Laughlin, founder of Acts of The Word Ministries, continues his Revelation Director’s Commentary series. Today, he examines Revelation chapter 18 and the fall of Mystery Babylon the Great.
When does this major prophetic event unfold? How does it affect the world and the reign of the antichrist?
Wed, 30 Oct 2024 - 19min - 383 - Imminence and Jesus’s Prophecy about Paul Testifying before Caesar in Rome
Dr. Alan Kurschner addressed the predictive prophecy by Jesus about the apostle Paul in Acts 23:11: “The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Have courage, for just as you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome” (cf. Acts 19:21).
The evening after Paul spoke in front of the Sanhedrin, the risen Lord gave him a prophecy that he “must” [dei] testify in Rome. This prophecy no doubt encouraged Paul in his ensuing hardships keeping the faith and being a bold witness to fulfill God’s purposes in his ministry. It would be a few years before this prophecy was fulfilled. The implications this has on the belief in imminence are evident: Jesus would not return for his church during this period. God’s will during Paul’s ministry would not be to send his Son back to rapture the church. His will was for Paul to spread the good news of his Son throughout the regions of the Roman Empire. But not only in the Roman Empire, but to proclaim the gospel to Caesar himself. “For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve came to me and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul! You must stand before Caesar, and God has graciously granted you the safety of all who are sailing with you.’” (Acts 27:23–24)
This prophecy was given to Paul during a storm on the sea as they were sailing to Rome. The prophesy states that Paul “must [dei] stand before Caesar” to testify of the gospel. God ordained that the Jewish apostle Paul would testify before the Gentile Roman Caesar, proclaiming the Name above all Names. So once again, this similar prophecy indubitably contradicts imminence theology. Jesus’ return was not imminent.
A possible objection to this (as well as to the prophecy about Peter’s death above) is the claim that God “secretly” gave Paul this prophecy; therefore, imminence can still be intact. This is a strained and illogical attempt to maintain imminence for the following reasons: (1) the biblical fact remains that Jesus could not return before this prophecy took place; (2) it impugns the character of God by making him contradict himself, telling Paul one thing and the church the opposite; (3) the prophecy given to Paul was not kept in “secret.” He openly shared it with the ship’s crew in order to encourage them that God would keep them safe (Acts 27:23–26). And even if he had not shared the prophecy, that would not make a difference one way or the other. The prophecy was a promise by God, and he would not break it.
I want to make one further point. Pretribulationism claims that Paul taught imminence in his first epistle to the Thessalonians. They reason that since Paul does not mention the great tribulation before the occurrence of the rapture in his epistle, therefore the rapture is imminent. Notwithstanding the glaring fallacy of this argument by silence, that was not the purpose for Paul writing his epistle. He was addressing the consternation of the Thessalonians who had loved ones that recently died. Paul was reassuring them that they would see them again. So there was no reason for Paul to address what would or would not happen before the rapture. That is a pretribulation presupposition being read into the text. Ironically, it would be his second epistle to the Thessalonians, where he teaches that the Antichrist will arrive before the rapture. But here is my point: How could Paul teach imminence in First Thessalonians since years later, after he penned the epistle, he would receive a prophecy from the Lord stating that he would testify in Rome before Caesar? In other words, the prophecies about him testifying in Rome contradicts that Paul was teaching imminence in his Thessalonian epistle.
In conclusion, this prophecy about Paul testifying in Rome undermines the notion that the rapture could happen during Paul’s ministry before he testified in Rome before Caesar. The Roman wheels of justice moved slowly,Tue, 29 Oct 2024 - 10min - 382 - Crown Me (Part 5) – A Case for Worry
Charles Cooper continues his discussion on Bible Prophecy Daily of the "Gospel of God", in this multi-part series "Crown Me".
Jesus Christ came to set up a kingdom, and the focus of the Gospels is its spiritual leadership. Tremendous disappointment awaits those who, either for lack of knowledge or improper motivation, fail to produce an acceptable return on the Lord’s investment.
The meaning of Matthew 25:30 is confirmed by the apostle Paul in I Corinthians 9:27. Do not prove worthless to the Master at his return.
Fri, 25 Oct 2024 - 25min - 381 - The Islamic Antichrist Theory Debunked – The Dangers (Part 11)
Chris White, with Bible Prophecy Talk Podcast, presents this concluding episode of his 11-part series on “The Islamic Antichrist Theory”. Chris has been discussing why he believes, from the biblical text, that the Islamic Antichrist theory is incompatible with the Bible.
In today's episode, Chris expands his concern from "incompatibilty" to "danger", stating his concern than the Islamic Antichrist view is the most dangerous theory about the end times that has ever been proposed, particularly for those who will encounter the Antichrist.
For more in-depth study about the Antichrist and the deception he will bring upon the world, consider reading Chris' book False Christ.
Mon, 21 Oct 2024 - 19min - 380 - Antisemitism and the Next Generation
Jake McCandless, with Stand Firm Ministries, presents a powerful episode as he speaks with Charlotte Korczak about the alarming rise of global antisemitism, particularly on college campuses, and its implications for Christians and Jews alike.
Charlotte shares her insights on how antisemitism has evolved, how it manifests differently across political spectrums, and why it is crucial for Christian parents and communities to stand with Israel. The conversation dives deep into both right- and left-wing antisemitism, the role of social media platforms like TikTok in spreading hate, and the need for education and solidarity.
Key Topics Discussed:
The rise of global antisemitism and its unprecedented scale
The differences between right-wing and left-wing antisemitism
How antisemitism is disguised as anti-Zionism
The role of universities in propagating antisemitic sentiments
The emotional manipulation of younger generations through platforms like TikTok
Why Christian values support standing with Israel and the Jewish people
How Christians can actively combat antisemitism in their own communities
Quotable Moments:
"This is the first time in history that antisemitism is manifesting globally in similar ways all at once." — Charlotte Korczak
"Christian values compel us to stand with the Jewish people, just as they have stood by us throughout history." — Jake McCandless

Ron Wallace continues with part 3 on Christ's teachings about His second coming, and looks at the general statement of His coming in Mark 8:38.
Jesus will actually be ashamed and disappointed of the unbelievers of His generation and by application, all who have rejected Him. Jesus prefaced this statement with a warning about "rich-mindedness". Not only is the love of money the root of all evil, it is clearly one of the things that often prevents a person from trusting in Jesus as Savior. In fact Jesus declared, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
Also in this episode, Ron will teach about the event of Christ's transfiguration.
Wed, 16 Oct 2024 - 41min - 378 - The Gathering of the ‘Elect’ in Matthew 24:31 Refers to All Believers from All the Nations
Dr. Alan Kurschner gave three reasons on this interpretation.
First, he explained that one cannot merely link words or expressions simply because they are similar. This is the similarity=identify fallacy. Context determines meaning.
Then he mentioned that the salvation of Israel happens at the end of the seven-year period, while the context of the arrival of Jesus in the clouds in Matthew 24:30–31 happens before God's wrath, not after God's wrath as pretribs would have us believe. In other words, the burden of proof is on the prettribber to demonstrate that God's wrath has already begun before v. 31. It is Antichrist's great tribulation that occurs before v. 31, not God's wrath.
Second, he listed several reasons why the gathering of the elect in Matthew 24:31 refers to the rapture and resurrection. These are outlined in my book Antichrist Before the Day of the Lord.
Third, and what he wanted to highlight on today's program, is that the context of events in Matthew 24 line up perfectly with the events in Revelation 6–8: persecution of God's people, celestial disturbances, the deliverance of God's elect, and the day of the Lord. Revelation 7:14 says that the "innumerable multitude" of resurrected believers have "come out of the tribulation." This corresponds with Matthew 24:31. Here is the main point: the book of Revelation unpacks the description of the reference to "elect" describing them as "from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages." Thus, the elect in Matthew 24:31 is not referring exclusively to believing Jews, but all believers from all nations of all times who are resurrected and raptured when Jesus returns at this second parousia.

Mon, 07 Oct 2024 - 20min - 374 - Revelation: “A Director’s Commentary” – Chapter 17 (Part 1)
Marquis Laughlin discusses "Mystery Babylon The Great" as he examines Revelation chapter 17 as part of his Director’s Commentary on the book.
This is a look at the relationship of Babylon The Great to other characters and groups in Revelation.
Because of the vast amount of biblical information written on this subject, this episode is part 1 of a 2-part series on this chapter.
Part 2 will cover some of the many references to Babylon The Great in other books of the Bible.
Wed, 02 Oct 2024 - 28min - 373 - The Second Coming According to Jesus (Part 2)
Ron Wallace continues with part two of Christ's teachings about His second coming.
In this episode, Ron teaches from Matthew 10:1-23, and discusses some of the instructions that Jesus gave to His disciples such as:
The content of the gospel message;
The lost sheep of Israel;
Degrees of punishment in hell;
And, of course, the evangelistic ministry of the Church right up to the moment that Jesus returns.
Mon, 30 Sep 2024 - 48min - 372 - Crown Me (Part 4) – The Price of Victory
Charles Cooper continues his multi-part presentation where he argues for the far more critical focus on “ruling with Christ” following the Bema Seat Judgment, rather than trying to figure out the timing of the Rapture.
Previously, Charles discussed the character of one who is to rule with Christ. Such a person is not one who only has faith, but who is actually faithFUL, and they receive from their Master "Commendation", "Exaltation" and "Honoration".
In this episode, he picks up at Matthew 25:24-30, where he now discusses the sad peril of the third man in the Parable of the Talents and the implications for the Christian who is faithLESS: "Derision", "Demotion", and "Divarication".
Listen closely, as Charles concludes by correlating the "Parable of the Talents" with the preceding parable of "The 10 Virgins" (Matthew 24:1-12), and soberly points out the 1,000 year (Millennial) Kingdom implications for the lazy, worthless Christian.
[Producer's Note: For further personal study, consider studying the Letters to the Churches in Revelation 2 & 3, paying particular attention to Laodicea in Revelation 3:14-22, which is clearly described as worthless, and confirms the ultimate discipline of divarication. We often use the words "broad and narrow way" in the context of those who are not saved versus those who are; but within the Church, as Coop points out, many Christians will arrive at the Bema Seat only to be devastated to learn the outcomes of their faithLESSness. The Narrow Gate is the gate to the Kingdom, and even Christians must press through that gate faithFULLY.]
Fri, 27 Sep 2024 - 20min - 371 - Crown Me (Part 3) – The Price of Victory
Charles Cooper continues his multi-part presentation where he argues for the far more critical focus on “ruling with Christ” following the Bema Seat Judgment, rather than trying to figure out the timing of the Rapture.
In this episode, using the first two characters in the "Parable of the Talents" (Matthew 25:14-23), Charles discusses Kingship, and the character of one who is to rule with Christ. Such a person is not one who only has faith, but who is actually faithFUL, and they receive from their Master "Commendation", "Exaltation" and "Honoration".
The conclusion with the third man in the parable will be in the upcoming Part 4 of this series.
[Producers Note: Due to the importance & sobriety of Charles' message regarding the Parable of the Talents, we will run his concluding Part 4 in the very next podcast, so that both parts are heard in close proximity to each other.]
Wed, 25 Sep 2024 - 22min - 370 - A Prophetic Analysis of Isaiah 24-27 (Part 4)
Ron Wallace concludes his study of Isaiah chapters 24-27.
In chapter 27, we see a symbolic judgment on Satan and the esablishment of the vineyard of Israel that will thrive in the Davidic earthly kingdom. Isaiah reviews the reality of discipline on the nation that has consistently failed to properly worship Yahweh.
But the chapter ends with the great promise of regathering for the Jewish people, and the worship of Yahweh on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
Mon, 23 Sep 2024 - 37min - 369 - Why Believers Must Go to Heaven After the Rapture: A Closer Look at John 14 & Revelation 7

Chris White, with Bible Prophecy Talk Podcast, presents Part 9 of his 11-part series on “The Islamic Antichrist Theory”. Chris is discussing, from the biblical text, why he believes the Islamic Antichrist theory is inaccurate.
Today, in Part 9, Chris addresses the emphasis of Islamic eschatological belief in views developed by authors such as Joel Richardson in the book "Islamic Antichrist".
Chris offers a helpful overview of eschatology in Islam, as believed by both Sunni and Shiites, and compares varous similarities & differences betweeen those beliefs, Christian biblical beliefs and other extra-biblical sources.
He concludes by presenting the problems Islamic eschatology presents for Richardson's view of an "Islamic" antichrist that aligns with the Bible.

Mon, 16 Sep 2024 - 26min - 366 - Revelation 13:16-18 “Marked for Death” – Part 3
Bob Hunt concludes his series on Revelation 13:16-18 “Marked for Death”. In this episode, after going into great detail in the previous sessions regarding the Mark, he examines the eternal consequences of taking the Mark. The key passage relating to this is Revelation 14:9-11. The Apostle John clearly describes the severity of this decision. Notably, our decisions on earth have eternal consequences.
Bob then deals with the question “Is taking the Mark an irreversible decision or can someone undo this event?” He then takes us to Matthew 12:31-32 for a discussion on how this may or may not fit, or be related. Is the Mark an unforgiveable sin? There are many sins that will send us to hell for eternity if not forgiven. Revelation 20:15, Galatians 5:19-21 and 1Corinthians 6:9-11 all give us a list. However, especially stated in 1 Corinthians, they all can be forgiven.
Next, the salvation of the Jewish people is discussed and its relationship to the Mark.
Then, in conclusion, God’s working in the Last Days is highlighted, especially His sending a strong delusion upon the world. Bob closes with his concluding remarks of this 3-Part series regarding the notion of "trying to undo" the taking of the Mark.
Fri, 13 Sep 2024 - 23min - 365 - Revelation: “A Director’s Commentary” – Chapter 16
Marquis Laughlin, founder of Acts of The Word Ministries, continues his Director’s Commentary series with insights on Revelation chapter 16.
In this episode, Marquis discusses Revelation chapter 15 answering the question, "When do the bowl judgments take place, and what does that tell us about the timing and nature of God’s wrath and the other events recorded in Revelation?"
Wed, 11 Sep 2024 - 25min - 364 - Satan, Saints, and Swords: 9 Satanic Attempts to Thwart God’s Future Kingdom
Dr. Alan Kurschner presents how Satan will do anything he can to see to it that God's future kingdom never becomes a reality. Satan's targets of attack include Israel, the Church, and the Messiah Jesus.
This fascinating study begins with an explanation of what "replacement theology" is and how it relates to whether or not one believes Israel has a role in God's purposes.
Using familiar events and themes from the Bible and history, Alan lays out nine ways Satan has attempted, and will attempt, to thwart God's future Kingdom.

Mon, 09 Sep 2024 - 49min - 363 - The Islamic Antichrist Theory Debunked – Gog & Magog (Part 8)
Chris White, with Bible Prophecy Talk Podcast, presents Part 8 of his 11-part series on “The Islamic Antichrist Theory”. Chris is discussing, from the biblical text, why he believes the Islamic Antichrist theory is inaccurate.
Today, in Part 8, Chris counters the view that Gog is the Antichrist, as presented in the book "Mideast Beast" by Joel Richardson. This view also argues that Gog is from Turkey, which has a sizeable Muslim population thereby adducing Gog is a Muslim Antichrist.
In this episode, Chris covers a lot of ground by going in depth using important historical resources as well as the biblical text in Exekiel 38 & 39 and Revelation 20.
NOTE: For listeners with a player that supports indexing, you will find this episode divided into 16 chapters for ease of studying along with Chris and reviewing his excellent research on this topic.
Fri, 06 Sep 2024 - 1h 10min - 362 - The Second Coming According to Jesus
Ron Wallace begins a multi-part series on exactly what Jesus taught about His second coming.
In this first episode, Ron teaches about "The Time Period of the End," "The End of the Age," and "The Age to Come." Jesus taught that the Kingdom of God was now evidenced among people through His presence, works and teachings. He taught that entrance into and participation in the actual Kingdom of God on a spiritual level was now available to all who would believe in Jesus as the Savior of the world.
And Jesus taught that it was now the responsibility of the disciples - and all believers - to proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom right up to the time that He will return.
Wed, 04 Sep 2024 - 53min - 361 - Crown Me (Part 2) – The Price to Rule
Charles Cooper continues his four-part presentation where he argues for the far more critical focus on "ruling with Christ" following the Bema Seat Judgment, rather than trying to figure out the timing of the Rapture.
In this episode, Charles picks up using Hebrews 12:2 where we are reminded that Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Throne of God, and that the saints will ultimately reign with Him.
As we understand this supreme position of Jesus Christ, and our relationship with Him in the Kingdom, it is imperative that we understand the requirement of "staying with Christ in His trials" (Luke 22:28-29.) This leads us to consider the difference between faithfulness and faith.
Let’s make our priority what Jesus commands: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness” (Matt 6:33).
Mon, 02 Sep 2024 - 12min - 360 - Revelation 13:16-18 “Marked for Death” – Part 2
Bob Hunt gives a quick review of part one and then jumps right into a discussion of the difficulties Christians will have during the time when the 'Mark of the Beast' is foisted upon the world. Bob then discusses the statement that Pre-tribulation rapture brothers and sisters make saying, “We won’t be here during all of these mandates.” Bob relates several verses from Revelation and offeres the conclusion that the Pre-Wrath rapture makes much more sense, even in this limited view.
Bob then examines the Mark in light of the Name and the Number of the Beast, first with a detialed look at what it means to have the Name of the Beast. A parallel is found in Revelation 22:4, where believers are found to have Jesus' Name on their foreheads. It is interesting that all of us will have one name or another, but not both.
Lastly, what is this Number of the Beast? Little is known or taught regarding this, but much speculation has been made. Is it a puzzle for us to figure out who this person is, or something else? What we do know is that it is the number of man. Man has reached the pinnacle of all that is evil and has, as a world, rejected God and worships the Beast and Satan himself.
In conclusion, it will take much wisdom and understanding to survive these perilous times. The consequences are not merely severe: the consequences are eternal.
Fri, 30 Aug 2024 - 23min - 359 - The Islamic Antichrist Theory Debunked – The Mark of the Beast (Part 7)
Chris White, with Bible Prophecy Talk Podcast, presents Part 7 of his 11-part series on “The Islamic Antichrist Theory”. Chris is discussing, from the biblical text, why he believes the Islamic Antichrist theory is inaccurate.
Today, in Part 7, Chris continues discusses a unique approach to the "Mark of the Beast" as presented by Walid Shoebat in his book, “God’s War on Terror”. Mr. Shoebat asserts that John was supernaturally shown the arabic words for 'In the name of Allah' and a picture of crossed swords when he was writing Revelation 13:18. Mr. Shoebat further claims that the Greek scribes misunderstood the arabic letters that John wrote down, mistaking them for greek letters instead of arabic symbols.
Continuing his biblical & exegetical approach to eschatology, Chris presents several problems with this view.
Wed, 28 Aug 2024 - 24min - 358 - Revelation: “A Director’s Commentary” – Chapter 15
Marquis Laughlin, founder of Acts of The Word Ministries, continues his Director’s Commentary series through the Book of Revelation.
In this episode, Marquis discusses Revelation chapter 15 answering the question, "When does this scene take place and what does that tell us about the timing of other key prophetic events?"

Charles Cooper offers this four-part presentation where he argues for the far more critical focus on "ruling with Christ" following the Bema Seat Judgment, rather than trying to figure out the timing of the Rapture.
It is essential, and you can be confident, that you will face the Bema Seat. However, your chances of being alive at the appearance of the physical manifestation of God on earth are less and less certain with each day you get older.
Let’s make our priority what Jesus commands: "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness" (Matt 6:33).

Today, in Part 6, Chris discusses the claims about "Mystery Babylon" made in the book, "God's War on Terror" by Walid Shoebat and co-authored by Joel Richardson. Mr. Shoebat asserts that "Mystery Babylon" in Rev 17 & 18 is a reference to Saudi Arabia, where the city of Mecca is located.
Continuing his biblical & exegetical approach to eschatology, Chris explains why he thinks this view is inaccurate.

Mon, 19 Aug 2024 - 1h 14min - 354 - Revelation 13:16-18 “Marked for Death” – Part 1
Bob Hunt, with Zion's Hope, begins a three part series from Revelation 13 focusing on the Mark of the Beast. The Beast of the Sea (Antichrist) and The Beast of the Earth (False Prophet) have risen to power and are dominating the world scene. A part of this rise is the use of various devices not only to secure this power, but achieve world-wide worship.
The first device used was miracles, both by the Beast of the Sea and the Beast of the Earth. Many followed after them in worship. Next, the Beast of the Earth commands the building of an image and then orders all the earth to bow before it or die. Many again fall into worship. Lastly the Beast of the Earth mandates that all the earth be marked or face severe economic disaster. It is this mark that will be the focus of all three parts of this series.
Bob discusses the purpose of the mark, which is to lead all the earth into worship of the Beast of the Sea. The use of miracles induced what appears to be a voluntary worship. The second threatened death to those who would not bow. Now the mark puts economic sanctions on those who still continue to hold out. Without the ability to buy or sell, a person would certainly die of starvation.
The reason for the mark is to identify those who have succumbed to the system in obedience. A visible sign is anticipated.
The consequences, as previously mentioned, is economic. The world of any surviving Christians at this point just got extremely difficult. The issue of survival will be on their minds, especially those who have families. Only the Holy Spirit will help guide believers through this most horrific time.

Wed, 14 Aug 2024 - 30min - 352 - How the Great Commission Implies a Pre-Wrath Rapture View
Dr. Alan Kurschner explained why pretribulation teachers are not consistent with Jesus's Great Commission: “teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matt 28:20).
He worked through Jim McClarty's article critiquing prewrath, responding to his arguments point by point.
Dr. Kurschner exposed a deep flaw in McClarty's method of biblical interpretation, where he disconnects the teaching of Jesus from the remaining part of the New Testament, exposing a multitude of inconsistencies and contradictions in his pretrib/classical dispensational system.
He makes the odd statement that Jesus cannot give "church teaching" unless the church exists at the time of Jesus's teaching. In other words, Jesus cannot prophesy about the church during Jesus' earthly ministry! This results in the flawed conclusion that Jesus cannot prepare his disciples to be the founding members of the church. Dr. Kurschner demonstrated the absurdity and errors in his interpretation by explaining the context of the Olivet Discourse and citing Old Testament teaching and Jesus's teaching that McClarty would acknowledge is in fact church teaching—hence, illustrating his inconsistent pretrib theological system. The Olivet Discourse is a teaching for the church, and the church better wake up to that fact—soon.

Today, in Part 5, Chris discusses the beast of Revelation with 7 heads and 7 horns. this is the beast that forces people on earth to worship the Antichrist. Beginning in Revelation 17, Chris first presents the more traditional views of the Beast, then follows with the view of the Islamic Antichrist theory as propounded by noted author Joel Richardson. Using a contextual and exegetical approach to scripture, Chris explains why he thinks this view is fatally flawed.
Wed, 07 Aug 2024 - 32min - 349 - 4 Reasons Why Premillennial Theology Matters
Dr. Alan Kurschner gave four reasons why holding to the premillennial view is important and, thus, why the millennial debate is significant.
Premillennialism teaches that at Jesus's second coming, he will deliver the righteous and judge the ungodly. Then, the righteous will enter into a period—the millennium—of peace and righteousness, during which Jesus establishes on earth his physical reign over all nations, including a restored nation of Israel that recognizes him as the Messiah. All nations will worship Jesus as King and Lord. The future millennium will be characterized socially, politically, ethnically, and spiritually. This is why Christians pray to the Father, "May your kingdom come."
Dr. Kurschner believes premillennialism is the correct biblical view because the narrative in Revelation 19:11–20:3 indicates this. Traditionally, interpreters have mistakenly started the millennial debate in chapter 20. But the narrative context begins before Revelation 20.
There is a cause-and-effect action where the victory of Jesus at the battle of Armageddon will cause the defeat of the three enemies of God: the beast (i.e., Antichrist), the false prophet, and Satan. The passage states that Satan's immediate punishment will be his binding in the abyss for 1,000 years (i.e. the millennium). In short, since Jesus' battle victory occurs during his future second coming, the binding of Satan must begin at the second coming.
Interpreters who approach Bible prophecy with frameworks that preclude a future reality of key prophecies either collapse biblical prophecies as having already happened in the past (preterism) or throughout church history (historicism) or make them all merely ideas (idealism). Premillennialism takes the Bible's warnings seriously as they relate to the future intervention of God's Son with humankind at the end of the age.
First, Satan is not bound during the church age (contra Amillennialism), but instead, he is “a roaring lion . . . on the prowl looking for someone to devour” (1 Pet 5:8). Premillennialism takes seriously the spiritual battle that the Bible portrays within the spirit world, significantly as it will escalate just before Christ returns.
We are also not living in the blessed millennial age. We are living in a wicked age where injustice, immorality, and no fear of God dominate this world. We long for the day when our righteous King returns to defeat his enemies and “break them with an iron scepter; [and] smash them like a potter’s jar!'”
Second, premillennialism rightly takes into consideration the complex nature of God’s dealings with his people. Amillennialism, on the other hand, views the return of Christ as an overly simple event, monochromatically. That is, there is no emphasis on the events leading up to the return of Christ; basically, in their schema, the return of Christ will happen in a single day, and we will all be suddenly ushered into the eternal state.
This is not what the Bible depicts. Instead, the premillennial view rightly views a complex-comprehensive whole in which God will fulfill his redemptive purposes through stages: Antichrist’s great tribulation, eschatological suffering of the church and Israel, resurrection, rapture, the day of the Lord’s wrath (itself a complex series of events), salvation of Israel, new heavens and earth, the complex social, ethnic, political, material aspects of the millennium, Satan’s final defeat—then finally the eternal state.
Third, premillennialism does not believe that the world will increasingly get better before Christ returns (contra postmillennialism, Pat Robertson, Gary DeMar, et al.). There are many postmillennial churches that are misleading God’s people teaching that God will use politics as a means to better this world and prepare the world for the gospel.
Premillennialism teaches, instead,Mon, 05 Aug 2024 - 22min - 348 - Revelation: “A Director’s Commentary” – Chapter 13

Fri, 26 Jul 2024 - 26min - 344 - Is the ENTIRE Seven Year Period God’s Wrath?
Dr. Alan Kurschner responded to the pretribulational tenet that the future seven-year period (i.e., the "70th week of Daniel") is entirely God's wrath. He used Jim McClarty's critique of the prewrath position as his entry point of discussion.
Dr. Kurschner demonstrated that the seven-year period is divided up into several periods, because Jesus divides it up into several periods in Matthew 24. There is the beginning of birth pangs, the Antichrist's great tribulation, and the day of the Lord's wrath. He also corrected McClarty's misrepresentation of the prewrath position.
Then he covered the pretrib notion that the seals are God's wrath because it is Jesus who opens them up. McClarity did not provide any evidence for this except his assumption that if Jesus opens them up then it must be God's wrath. He refuted that by walking through the seals, particularly the fifth, sixth, and seventh seals. The day of the Lord's wrath will not begin until the seventh seal is opened up—not before it. He explained the relationship between God's sovereignty and evil in this world. Satan and God are not independent powers. Satan is under the control of God, even when God gives him permission and latitude to persecute the people of God. God has his good purposes in suffering and it is our hope that God is all-powerful and all-loving and thus we must trust even in the trials of life that God brings into our life.

Wed, 03 Jul 2024 - 25min - 335 - Who Are Taken and Who Are Left Behind?
Dr. Alan Kurschner responded to Jim McClarty's critique of the prewrath interpretation of one taken and one left behind. First, he recapped previous arguments in the past programs where he gave a half dozen reasons to show that the ones who are taken are taken for deliverance and the ones who are left are left for judgment.
1. The Noahic and agricultural illustrations in verses 37–41 intend to illustrate the separation of the elect from the wicked at the parousia in verses 30-31.
2. The parallelism is consistent among the illustrations as well as the parousia-separation event.
3. The usage of the Greek words paralambanō and airō support that the “taken” are for deliverance and the “left” for judgment.
4. The usage of the Greek words paralambanō and aphiēmi support that the “taken” are for deliverance and the “left” for judgment.
5. The parable of the ten virgins is consistent with the point that one is taken for deliverance and one left for judgment.
6. Jesus’ use of the vulture proverb is consistent with the point that one is taken for deliverance and one left for judgment.
In the second part of the show, Dr. Kurschner specifically addresses Jim McClarty's interpretation of Luke 17:37, in which he attempts to connect it with the battle of Armageddon.
Dr. Kurschner also explained that the proverb is Jesus's answer to the disciples's question about "where." Jesus invokes the proverb to indicate that Jesus' return will be unmistakable. Further, to make the proverb relate only to verse 35 has additional problems for the pretribber since the judgment imagery represents the ungodly, not the righteous and thus comports much better with those who are “left” for judgment, not with those who are taken for deliverance.

Wed, 26 Jun 2024 - 22min - 332 - Paul on Whether There Will Be a ‘Gap’ between the Rapture and the Day of the Lord’s Wrath
Dr. Alan Kurschner talked about the apostle Paul's teaching of the temporal relationship between the rapture and the beginning of the day of the Lord’s wrath and its implications.
Prewrath eschatology teaches that the rapture and the onset of the day of the Lord’s wrath will happen back-to-back on the very same day. The day Christ returns, arriving on the clouds to resurrect and rapture his people, will be the very same day that his eschatological judgments begin to unleash on the world for an undetermined length of time. To be sure, the day of the Lord will not all happen in a single day, only its inception occurs on the day the rapture happens. God’s purpose is to deliver his people and then initiate his wrath on the same day.
This same-day, two-fold event contains significant implications for the pretribulational notion of “imminence,” the belief that Jesus can return at “any moment.” Since Scripture teaches that prophesied events will happen before the day of the Lord—the celestial disturbance (Joel 2:30–31), Elijah’s coming (Mal 4:5), the apostasy and revelation of the Antichrist (2 Thess 2:1–4)—then by necessity they will take place before the rapture. Consequently, the pretribulational teaching of imminence is rendered invalid.
The majority of pretribulationists believe the day the rapture happens will be the same day, or the next day, the day of the Lord’s wrath begins (albeit, they wrongly place it as the beginning of the seven-year period). So, this biblical reality of events happening before the day of the Lord becomes problematic for their theological system. Some pretribulational teachers, accordingly, recognize this salient implication that contradicts their eschatological theological system. But rather than move away from their position and embrace the prewrath interpretation, they feel the need to continue to defend pretribulationism. Their attempt to resolve this problem, then, is to posit a “gap” of time—days, weeks, or months—between the rapture and the day of the Lord’s wrath. This schema then allows for the prophesied events mentioned above to occur during this “gap” before the day of the Lord but after the rapture. Thus, the pretribulationist aims to “protect” their teaching of imminence by using this interval argument.
We would expect the apostle Paul to be consistent with Jesus on this point, since Paul draws so much of his eschatology from Jesus’ teaching. And sure enough, we shall see that Paul also taught the same day that Jesus returns in the clouds the righteous will be delivered and the punishment for the wicked will begin.
We ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith flourishes more and more and the love of each one of you all for one another is ever greater. As a result we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and afflictions you are enduring. This is evidence of God’s righteous judgment, to make you worthy of the kingdom of God, for which in fact you are suffering. For it is right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to you who are being afflicted to give rest together with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels. With flaming fire he will mete out punishment on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will undergo the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his strength, when he comes to be glorified among his saints and admired on that day among all who have believed—and you did in fact believe our testimony. Fri, 07 Jun 2024 - 28min - 313 - A Prophetic Analysis of Isaiah 24-27 (Part 1)
Ron Wallace, with Bible Fragrances, begins a 4-part series on Isaiah 24-27. Each part will analyze a chapter in succession.
Today, in Isaiah 24, Ron points out that Isaiah predicts the serious and wide-spread judgments from God's wrath during what we designate as the "Day-of-the-Lord Judgments". These judgments will begin after the Lord's return at the 6th seal of Revelation 6, and will consist of the 7 trumpets and 7 bowls that are described throughout the book of the Revelation.

Mon, 03 Jun 2024 - 56min - 311 - The Qatar Connection: Hamas, College Campus Protests, and the Muslim Brotherhood
David Rosenthal, president of Zion's Hope, discusses who or what is influencing America's most prestigious universities and why they are turning a blind eye to hate-filled, anti-Semitic “protests”.
For decades, these institutions have been receiving vast sums of money from political activists and billionaire-funded global foundations. What has largely been ignored, until now however, has been the enormous flow of Arab-Muslim money into their coffers from authoritarian regimes in the Middle East. The largest of these “contributors," the nation of Qatar, has donated more than $3 billion to Hamas and has deep connections with the Muslim Brotherhood – a radical organization with its sites set on the destruction of Israel and the establishment of an Islamic caliphate.
Listen to this timely update, originally presented on the 2024 National Day of Prayer, how the current events of our world relate to Israel and end-times prophecy.
Fri, 31 May 2024 - 22min - 310 - The Millennium: What it is and Why it Matters (Part 3)
Dr. Michael Weis with Zion's Hope reminds us of the first 2 elements and then zeroes in on the next topic: that the Northern and Southern Kingdoms of Israel will be reunited in the Kingdom.
Dr. Weis connects this with the Abrahamic and New Covenants, and helps us apply principles for reconciliation in our own relationships. He then turns to how the Jewish people will be in a place of prominence in the Kingdom, where God will fulfill all of His promises to them, proving this from various texts.
Wed, 29 May 2024 - 33min - 309 - Twins of a Different Covenant (Part 4): Jude – the Last Book Before God’s Second Coming
Michael Ufferman, a teacher at Zion's Hope, concludes his 4-part series, "Twins of a Different Covenant", with this final session in the Book of Jude. Michael compares how Jude's message, in essence, is the same as that addressed to the priests in the Book of Malachi.
In the first twin, the Book of Malachi, God warned the priesthood to adhere to biblical righteousness so they could stand when the Lord appeared at His First Coming.
In the second twin, the Book of Jude, God exhorts believers – the New Testament priesthood – to remain steadfast in faith and teaching the Word of God before Christ's Second Coming.
The times in which we live are more precarious every day. This message from the Book of Jude becomes more critical as we see the Lord's Second Coming approaching on the horizon of time.

Mon, 27 May 2024 - 31min - 308 - What Paul Taught about the Rapture and Resurrection
Dr. Alan Kurschner looks at the "classic rapture passage" in 1 Thessalonians 4, in context. He explains the reasons why Paul wrote this exhortation to the church at Thessalonica, and how the Thessalonians were struggling with various questions about life after death. While talking about the rapture, Alan puts this in the context of their day, for our day.
This was given as an elective at Zion's Hope in Winter Garden, FL.
Fri, 24 May 2024 - 43min - 307 - On the Ground in Israel: The Start of the Sacrifices and a New Temple (Part 2)
Jake McCandless recently returned from a trip to Israel with the ministry Generation 2 Generation. The trip was to show solidarity with Israel and to learn first-hand what happened in the 10/7 attacks. He was able to tour locations that were attacked and speak with a long list of people on the ground ranging from survivors to IDF officials. He gained incredible insight while on the ground with 360-degree views of the attacks which he will share over a series of episodes.
In previous episodes, he has talked about what he learned about the attacks and the current conflict. With this episode, Jake begins a series on the fulfillment of Bible prophecy he felt was being fulfilled before his eyes. This first prophecy discussed does not have to be seen on the ground in Israel, for it is currently in the news: and that is the start of the sacrifices and the building of a new Temple. Jake shares how he saw this unfolding on the ground. You can learn more at www.standfirmministries.com.

Marquis Laughlin continues his Director’s Commentary on the book of Revelation with an examination of chapter 9. Why are the last three trumpet judgements called “Woes”? How long does this period last, and do we have evidence some of these things may have been experienced before?
Mon, 20 May 2024 - 22min - 305 - The Millennium: What it is and Why it Matters (Part 2)
Dr. Michael Weis of Zion's Hope began Part 1 of this subject "The Millennium: What it is and Why it is Important" in January and continues today with Part 2.
After a brief review, Dr. Weis explores that in the Messianic Kingdom, or Millennium, the nation of Israel will live in peace. This factor is critical for the Jewish people today, and particularly as we get closer to the End Times.
But, not only is peace promised to the Nation of Israel one day, it is promised for us today. He explains how we can have God's peace in our lives, as we look forward to the ultimate peace in the future.
Fri, 17 May 2024 - 36min - 303 - The Abomination of Desolation
Ron Wallace teaches what the nature and occasion is for the Abomination of Desolation.
There are two aspects to the abomination:
First: there is the abominating presence of the man of lawlessness who takes his seat in the temple of God.
Second: there is the abomination of an idol image, or images, that are put in the Holy place.
In both cases God's name will be blasphemed and Satan will attempt to usurp the authority and power of the Godhead on the earth.Mon, 13 May 2024 - 31min - 302 - Our 300th Episode: Be an Overcomer
David Mohler joins us today from "behind the scenes" at Bible Prophecy Daily to thank our teachers upon the airing of 300 episodes since Dr. Alan Kurschner launched the BPD podcast back in January, 2023. Nearly every day, expository teaching centered around Bible prophecy, from a pre-wrath perspective, has been presented and now represents a continuing repository available to Christians worldwide.
After some brief comments about the podcast, David concludes with a short discussion concerning the churches of Thyatira & Laodicea and the implications they present for us as overcomers, along with all the seven churches of Revelation.
Fri, 10 May 2024 - 11min - 301 - Twins of a Different Covenant (Part 3): Jude – the Last Book Before God’s Second Coming
Michael Ufferman from Zion's Hope continues his "Twins of a Different Covenant" study, now delving into the second twin, the Book of Jude. In this session, Michael identifies the audience to whom Jude is addressing.
In the first twin, the Book of Malachi, God warned the priesthood to adhere to biblical righteousness so they could stand when the Lord appeared at His First Coming. When Christ visited the Temple and assessed the righteousness of the Priesthood, He found it severely lacking; to the extent that those who should have recognized their Messiah actually crucified Him.
Malachi serves as the final book in the Old Testament before Christ's First Coming. God deemed it necessary to provide a book with exhortations to the priesthood prior to His First Coming.
Does God follow a similar pattern in the New Testament? Does He provide a book with exhortations to the priesthood before His Second Coming? Indeed, God has done just that in the second twin, the Book of Jude, our last Scripture text before the Book of Revelation, which details the events surrounding Christ's Second Coming.

Wed, 08 May 2024 - 19min - 300 - 10 Reasons WHY the Seals, Trumpets, and Bowls Unfold Sequentially (i.e., Consecutively)
Dr. Alan Kurschner, in his last episode, gave the context to the unfolding of the seals, trumpets, and bowls.
In today's episode, Dr. Kurschner outlines 10 reasons against the concurrent-recapitulatory interpretation of the book of Revelation while arguing for the consecutive-progressive framework.
Seals, Trumpets, Bowls – At the Same Time or One After the Other?
Consecutive-Progressive
The prewrath position interprets a sequential chronological framework for the seals, trumpets, and bowls. That is, the seal-trumpet-bowl septets (sets of seven) will happen in a consecutive-progressive fashion, with each septet consecutively following each other. For example, the trumpet septet cannot begin until the seventh seal is opened; and the bowl septet cannot begin before the seventh trumpet is blown. The last judgment element of the day of the Lord’s wrath will be the seventh bowl. Accordingly, the seventh seal and the seventh trumpet serve as transitions to the next set of God’s climaxing judgments, culminating with the seventh bowl.
Concurrent-Recapitulation
Posttribulationists subscribe instead to a concurrent-recapitulation framework with the septets occurring at the same time with the judgment elements giving different emphases or perspectives. For example, it is said that the sixth seal, sixth trumpet, and sixth bowl describe the same event from a different angle. Accordingly, the last element in the day of the Lord’s wrath describes the seventh of each septet; thus, the seventh seal, seventh trumpet, and seventh bowl are the same event from different perspectives. And there are those posttribulationists who hold that it does not describe the exact same event, but they affirm that the three elements occur roughly at the same time. For all practical purposes, the main point is that both of these posttrib interpretations do not view the trumpets and bowls occurring after the seventh seal is opened.
It is noted that this debate does not hinge on whether each judgment element within the septets succeed each other; that is not the issue. The main question is: Do each of the three septets themselves succeed each other (consecutive) or do they simultaneously unfold (concurrent)?
Dr. Kurschner's aim is to demonstrate that the concurrent view is flawed. He argues for the consecutive nature of the three septets, showing that the seventh seal does not depict the culmination but the introduction to the day of the Lord via the seven trumpets and culminating in the seven bowls.
Why Recapitulation?
There are two main observations from the book of Revelation that lead posttribulationists to conclude the concurrent-recapitulation theory is correct. First, they will point out that the septets possess a similar structure, thinking these depict the same events with different emphases. They draw attention to at least two observations: (1) the first four elements of each septet share a structured unit, and (2) the first two septets, the seals and trumpets, each contain a parenthetical section between the sixth and seventh element.
However, this is a non sequitur (no pun intended) to reason that because they share similar forms, therefore they must possess the same content and occur at the same time. It is a fallacy to equate similarity with identity.
The second observation is where their theory either falls or stands. They will point out similarities between the sixth and seventh element of each septet, along with their parenthetical sections, concluding all three describe the end. They argue that since there cannot be “three ultimate ends,” it follows that they recapitulate the trumpet and bowls back into the seals giving a composite of a single event (see the chart above). Marko Jauhiainen pinpoints their key argument for the recapitulation theory. He writes,Mon, 06 May 2024 - 57min - 299 - Revelation: “A Director’s Commentary” – Chapter 8

Where is Armageddon?
Chris begins with Daniel 12:11 and discusses the timing of the 70th week as a whole, and how the final battle fits right into the timing of Revelation 12.
Fri, 19 Apr 2024 - 28min - 291 - Posttribulationism and the Seals, Trumpets, Bowls in the Book of Revelation
Dr. Alan Kurschner gave some context to one of the most common interpretations of the posttribulation view, where the seals, trumpets, and bowls occur roughly at the same time. Indeed, many posttribs believe the corresponding elements are the same events; i.e., the seventh trumpet is the seventh bowl.
The posttribulation interpretation necessarily forces a framework upon the book of Revelation because of a deep-seated presupposition that they hold.
The presupposition is that the depiction of the battle of Armageddon in Revelation 19, with Christ appearing in the sky with his heavenly armies, indicates the beginning of his parousia.
Yet, many posttribs recognize this causes a discrepancy because the book of Revelation shows the day of the Lord's wrath unfolding before the battle of Armageddon during the trumpet and bowl judgments. In other words, how can the parousia begin at the battle of Armageddon but at the same time affirm that his judgment does not begin before his parousia?
They also recognize the discrepancy of affirming that God's people have been resurrected between the sixth and the seventh seal in Revelation 7 and, at the same time, claiming that the resurrection occurs in association with the battle of Armageddon in Revelation 19 that they say initiates the parousia. How, then, do they attempt to reconcile these problems?
Enter the concurrent-recapitulation interpretation of posttribulationism.
Since this issue is important and a very common point of disagreement between prewrath and posttrib, Dr. Kurschner argues that the concurrent-recapitulation interpretation is not only implausible but contradictory. In addition, he shows that the consecutive-progressive framework is the most natural, intended interpretation to the relationship of the seals, trumpets, and bowls.

Tue, 02 Apr 2024 - 27min - 279 - The Return of Elijah and the Two Witnesses
Ron Wallace kicks off our April epsiodes teaching from Malachi 3:1. The prophecy about a future coming of Elijah has a dual focus: it looks to both the first coming of the Messiah and His second coming.
At both advents, Elijah will have a special ministry to woo the Jewish people back to a covenant relationship with God. The leaders and the people need to change their mind about their current belief system that revolves around Mosaic legalism. They need to believe that Jesus is the promised Messiah and trust in Him as the Savior of the world.
Mon, 01 Apr 2024 - 48min - 278 - 6 Lines of Evidence for Michael the Archangel as the Restrainer
Dr. Alan Kurschner explicated here in Part 2 the lines of evidence that Colin R. Nicholl adduces that supports the "Restrainer" being Michael the archangel.
1. Contemporary Jewish literature viewed the characteristics of Michael having eschatological pre-eminence as the chief opponent of Satan and Restrainer of God’s people.
2. Michael is viewed as a celestial restrainer of God’s people in Daniel 10–12, the passage serving as the source for Paul’s exposition in 2 Thessalonians 2:3–8.
3. Daniel’s use of the Hebrew term ʿmd comports with the activity of the restrainer in 2 Thessalonians 2:6–7.
4. The Greek term parerchomai in Daniel 12:1 of the Septuagint (LXX) means, “to pass by,” which corresponds with the ceasing of restraint in 2 Thessalonians 2:6–7.
5. Early Rabbinic interpretation of Daniel 12:1 perceived Michael as “passing aside” or “withdrawing” just after Antichrist’s establishment near or at the temple mount (Dan 11:45), just before the eschatological unequaled tribulation against God’s people (Dan 12:1).
6. Revelation 12:7–17 supports viewing Michael as the Restrainer because it links the cessation of Michael’s war against the dragon with the unprecedented persecution of God’s people, which is consistent with 2 Thessalonians 2:6–7 and Daniel 11:45–12:1.
Given this evidence, the only candidate who can explain the Restrainer being removed is Michael. Other proposals for the Restrainer are hard-pressed to comport with those roles. Thus, this is a strong case that the apostle Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2:6–7 refers to Michael the archangel as the Restrainer, whose ministry ceases and causes the eschatological temple to be desolated by Antichrist, ensued by his great tribulation against God’s people.
At the conclusion of the program, Dr. Kurschner explained Colin Nicholl's understanding of the masculine and the neuter in reference to Michael, where in verse 6, it is in the neuter gender to katechon (“what holds him back”), and in verse 7, it is in the masculine gender ho katechōn (“the one who holds him back”). Nicholl believes the best explanation is recognizing the Greek can use the neuter gender to refer to a person while the emphasis is on an exceptional quality of the individual (e.g., 1 Cor 11:5; 1 Cor 1:27–28; Gal 3:22; John 3:6; 17:24; 1 John 5:1–4; Matt 12:6). Thus, the neuter in verse 6 refers to Michael with a focus on his restraining ministry, while the masculine in verse 7 refers to Michael himself.
Bibliography:
In the April 2000 volume of The Journal of Theological Studies, Colin R. Nicholl published the seminal article, “Michael, The Restrainer Removed (2 Thess. 2:6-7),” arguing strongly that Michael is the Restrainer. After his journal article was published Nicholl published it as an appendix in his important monograph (which was his dissertation) From Hope to Despair in Thessalonica: Situating 1 and 2 Thessalonians, Cambridge University Press, 2004.
Fri, 29 Mar 2024 - 38min - 277 - The Context of the Archangel Michael as the Restrainer
Dr. Alan Kurschner explained the context of the Restrainer question.
Who is the "Restrainer"? This question stems from Paul's text in 2 Thessalonians 2:6–7. "And so you know what holds him back, so that he will be revealed in his own time. For the hidden power of lawlessness is already at work. However, the one who holds him back will do so until he is taken out of the way."
Dr. Kurschner is from the persuasion that the identity of the Restrainer in 2 Thessalonians 2:6–7 is the Archangel Michael. There are several compelling lines of evidence to conclude this, and the value of this conclusion is its consistency to the overall prewrath position, even though it is not an essential tenet to the prewrath view. From a negative point of view, it undermines the pretribulational interpretation that the Restrainer is the Holy Spirit.
The Michael interpretation is not new since there have been about a dozen theologians and scholars over the last hundred years who have taken this position. Even Robert Van Kampen, a pioneer of the pewrath position, held to this view.
But it was not until the year 2000 that a young Thessalonian scholar by the name of Colin R. Nicholl came along that would, for many scholars, put the nail in the coffin of the Restrainer debate.
In the April 2000 volume of The Journal of Theological Studies, Colin R. Nicholl published the seminal article, “Michael, The Restrainer Removed (2 Thess. 2:6-7),” arguing strongly that Michael is the Restrainer. After his journal article was published, Nicholl published it as an appendix in his important monograph (which was his dissertation) From Hope to Despair in Thessalonica: Situating 1 and 2 Thessalonians, Cambridge University Press, 2004.
Dr. Kurschner gave some context to Paul's restrainer text that helps situate this question for next week's episode.
Paul reminds the Thessalonians that they know about the restraining ministry of Antichrist’s revelation: “And so you know what holds him back.” The Thessalonians are under the false impression that the day of the Lord is occurring. To correct their error, Paul teaches that before the Lord’s revelation happens, the Antichrist’s revelation will occur first. But even before the Antichrist’s revelation occurs, Paul explains that the individual who restrains Antichrist’s revelation must be first taken away.
Traditionally, the enigmatic person who restrains has been properly designated “the Restrainer.” Once the Restrainer is removed, this causes Antichrist’s revelation, resulting in Antichrist taking his seat in the temple and proclaiming himself as God (2 Thess 2:4). When this happens at the midpoint of the seven-year period it will cause the abomination of desolation and the unabated great tribulation will commence.
It was also noted that the issue of the identity of the Restrainer is not essential to the prewrath position, namely because it does not sway the fact that Paul teaches two events must occur before Christ’s return: the apostasy and the revelation of the man of lawlessness. So one can be prewrath and disagree that it is Michael because it simply is not inherent to the prewrath position. Conversely, pretribs can hold the Michael view. Similarly, the issues of identifying the religion or ethnicity of the Antichrist, the False Prophet, the Great City of Babylon, or the Two Witnesses are not exclusive to a particular a rapture view. That being said, it is believed that identifying the restrainer as Michael is the most consistent interpretation and that it fits well with the prewrath position.

Thu, 21 Mar 2024 - 22min - 275 - The Meaning and Timing of the New Heaven and the New Earth (Part 2)
Janet Willis continues her study of the meaning and timing of the New Heaven and the New Earth. Does the apostle John tell us why a New Heaven and a New Earth will be needed? And does he say when this will happen? What does the apostle Peter reveal about the timing of all this?
While the world agonizes over environmental preservation, Janet presents the biblical evidence that, after the eschatological judgments, God Himself will restore His Creation in a marvelous way.
With a look back to the Noahic Flood and various Old Testament prophetic references, it’s exciting to see how God’s promises about our future all fit together!
