Happy New Year Folks! I recite a gazal I wrote, hoping to pen the conflicting feelings that govern my brain and brawn. I hope you like it and would be kind enough to share it!

I wrote this gazal some time back, reminiscing about the simpler times with an unfettered communication with one's heart and soul.

Poet: Mohammad Farhat Abbas; Multan, Punjab

Jeta Shree Sharma, in her own words, "I have just passed my 12th board exams. I am writing from past 4 years and I write to satisfy my thirst of emotions. In this nazm,i have tried to express the feeling,the state of a rape victim and how the society reacts to such situation.The problem with groups who deal with rape is that they try to educate females about how to defend themselves. What really needs to be done is teaching men not to rape. Teach 'HIM' not 'HER'."

Syed Ahmad Shah (1931-2008), who acquired the pen name of Faraz, came to be known as Ahmad Faraz as a poet. He was born at Nav Shahra although his ancestral place was Kohat. He studied at Islamia College, Kohat; Edwards College, Peshawar; and Peshawar University from where he got his degrees of M. A. in Urdu and M. A. in Persian. He began his career as a producer in Radio Pakistan. Later, he worked as a lecturer at Islamia College in Peshawar. Faraz disapproved of the military dictatorship in Pakistan and expressed himself unreservedly for which he was arrested. On his release, he preferred to live in a self-imposed exile in Europe and Canada for six years. Back home, he took up senior positions of administrative nature as Resident Director of Pakistan National Centre, and subsequently the Director of Akademy Adabiyat Pakistan, Lok Wirsa and Chairperson of National Book Foundation. A widely respected poet, Faraz received several awards. Some of these include Adamji Award, Abaseen Award, Kamal-e-Fun Award, and Hilal-e-Imtiyaz award, which he returned registering his displeasure with the country’s governance. He was decorated with Hilal-e-Pakistan award by the Government of Pakistan posthumously.

Rahat Indori was a well-known Urdu shayar and lyrics writer. He was born in 1950 in Indore and did his basic education from there. He completed his MA in Urdu literature from Bhopal and achieved his PhD from Bhuj University of Madhya Pradesh. His childhood was a tough one as the family was going through a financial crisis, so he began to work as a sign-painter at the tender age of ten. Rahat took up a teacher’s job in Urdu literature at IK College, Indore and got engrossed in mushairas and began to get invitations from everywhere in India and abroad. He was a good student and also the captain of the football and hockey teams at school and college levels. He recited his first sher in his college days when he was only 19.  He was the recipient of a number of national and international awards for Urdu sher-o-shayari. Zeeshan Sahil was born on December 15, 1961 in Hyderabad, Sindh. Zeeshan, who wrote prose poetry had published eight collections under a single volume titled 'Saari Nazmein.  ‘Wajh-e Begangi’ is the collection of his ghazals which got published in 2011.  He was known for his sensitivity and simplicity apart from the post-modern approach which is evident from his writings. Died on April 12, 2008 in Karachi.

Saleem Kausar, born Muhammad Saleem, is a Pakistani Urdu Poet He has published several poetry books. He has also written various title songs for different TV play serials.

Khizaan or autumn has fascinated poets since long. This influenced the poet, Mehboob Siddiqui, who chose the pen name, Mehboob Khizaan. He was born on 1st July 1930 at Chandaair in District Baliya. After partition, he moved to Pakistan. In 1952 he passed the competition of C.S.P and became the Assistant Accountant General of Punjab. He retired from the post of Accountant General of Sindh on 30 June 1990. Mehboob Khizaan now lives a retired life in Karachi. He is unmarried and never had a literary guide. Akeli Bastiyaan is the collection of his poetry.

Abdul Hayee (8 March 1921 – 25 October 1980), popularly known by his takhallus (pen name) Sahir Ludhianvi, was an Indian Poet and Film Songs Lyricist who wrote in the Hindi and Urdu languages.His work influenced Indian cinema, in particular Bollywood film. This Gazal is from Hum Dono (1961).

This is a very special gazal that I wrote sometime back. I try to capture the mind of a person who struggles with one's own self. Raghupati Sahay (28 August 1896 – 3 March 1982), better known under his pen name Firaq Gorakhpuri, was a writer, critic, and, according to one commentator, one of the most noted contemporary Urdu poets from India. This Gazal is called "Thar Thari Si Hai Aasmano Mein" and was penned by the legendary poet in the year of 1939.

Dushyant Kumar (1 September 1933 – 30 December 1975) was a poet of modern Hindi literature. He is famous for writing Hindi Gazals, and is generally recognised as one of the foremost Hindi poets of the 20th century. "Kaise Manzar Saamne Aane Lage Hain" is a part of his Gazal Collection "Saaye Mein Dhoop".
