African American women have sometimes been made to feel like we are not allowed to take a break and that we have to continue to operate at a pace that is not humane and healthy in any way. Wed, 21 Jul 2021 - 60 - Black Women and Mental Health: I'm Too Strong To Be Depressed!"
Join Sheema and some of her friends for a real girl talk about black women and mental health. For so many years black women didn't have the luxury of going to therapy or better yet being vulnerable enough to even talk about feeling depressed, anxious or that something wasn't right. I don't know how many times I've heard or been told lies such as "black people are too strong to be depressed" or "therapy is for white folks". The stigma that runs rampant in our community and society has left many black women suffering alone without the help and support they need and deserve. In this one hour conversation, we are opening the door of opportunity to share, be vulnerable and just talk about mental health. My guests Dr. Max, Shameka Allen-Lane, Meeka Thompson and Joy Benson share their experiences and their thoughts from their hearts.

Coming out can be one of the most difficult things to do especially when you know loved ones who will no longer accept you.
