Each year, 3 million older people are treated in emergency departments for fall injuries. Over 800,000 patients a year are hospitalized because of a fall injury, most often because of a head injury or hip fracture. Each year at least 300,000 older people are hospitalized for hip fractures. Falls are the leading cause of injuries, hospitalizations for trauma, and injury-related deaths among youngers. Every year, one out of every three youngers fall accidentally. Exercise, a balanced diet, and some medicines can improve your health by giving you strength and decreasing injury and falling rates. Some strategies such as making changes to your home, providing home security, and installing fire-prevention devices can reduce the probabilities of injures. According to an estimation, people aged 65 and up are twice than other age groups to suffer and die in a house fire.
