The Pink Patch Project started in 2013 as a local Breast Cancer Awareness project with a police department in Seal Beach, California. Since then, the project has expanded to hundreds of law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies, raising over $1.5 million worldwide for breast cancer research and education. Someone is killed or injured in a drunk driving crash every 79 seconds. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) works every day to see a world where there are no more victims of drunk/drugged driving. In this episode, MADD Nebraska Executive Director Sara Draper sat down with Sheriff Terry Wagner, Chief Deputy Ben Houchin, and Captain John Vik to discuss MADD's mission, services, and how they interact with LSO to combat drunk and drugged driving in Lancaster County.

Law enforcement uses License Plate Reader (LPR) technology to take pictures of vehicle license plates which are then compared to existing law enforcement databases of Amber Alerts, stolen vehicles, and vehicles wanted in connection with criminal activity. The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) of 1994 provided additional funding and resources to law enforcement agencies, which allowed them to dedicate personnel and programs to better serve crime victims of domestic assault, child abuse, and sexual assault. On October 25, 2017 Colleen Lovett got the news every parent dreads - that her child had been involved in a serious crash. Tragically, Colleen's daughter Ryan Post never recovered from her injuries, but Ryan's story didn't end there. Through the gift of organ and tissue donation, she was able to save the lives of at least five people and impact many more. The Marine Unit is a relatively new specialized unit to LSO. They are tasked with enforcement and safety operations in the many lakes and recreation areas within Lancaster County alongside our partners with the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission. Since the first recorded death in 1786, over 23,000 law enforcement officers in the United States have been killed or died in the line of duty. In 1963, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week it falls within as "Police Week". Lancaster County Deputy Sheriff Craig Dodge was killed in the line of duty on March 14, 1987 while responding to a domestic violence call in Hickman, Nebraska. In this episode, Craig's wife Barb Dodge joined the 902 Podcast to share her story. Following the tragedy of Craig's death, Barb became actively involved with Concerns Of Police Survivors, Inc. (COPS), a national organization dedicated to helping police survivors cope, heal, and begin to rebuild their lives. She is a past National President of COPS and was invited to speak at the dedication of the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial in Washington, D.C. Each year during National Police Week in Washington D.C, Barb conducts the seminar "From Victim To Survivor" for new police survivor families. In addition, she is a member of the Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial Committee which pursues fundraising for the Nebraska State Law Enforcement Memorial and has been an active board member of the Nebraska COPS Chapter.
