30 April 2023 | After realizing the Hebrew midwives failed to carry out his genocide plans, he now commands his own people to do it. He calls on them to take any Hebrew boys that are born and to throw them into the Nile. The word for ‘throw them’, it means ‘to abandon’. Pharoah wants them to abandon the infant children to the waters, abandon them to drowning, abandon them to death.

23 April 2023 | This week take a closer look what it mean to say "No" even when it's tough, even if the 'No" will cost something valuable. Two midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, have an important role in the exodus story (Exodus 1:15-21) as they disobey Pharaoh's order of killing infants if they are a boy, which then sets in motion God's plan for his people.

16 April 2023 | The story of Exodus begins with reality of God's people being in slavery. It also gives us a picture of a God who cares for his people that He chooses to step into our lives today to free us from our sins. There is no sin that Jesus can't redeem us from. That freedom starts today as we accept Christ as our redeemer.

As he comes before God and makes a commitment to let go of the past and to move into the new future that God has for Him. He begins to rediscover the faithfulness of God in the midst of hopelessness.

19 March 2023 | All of us face a certain degree of emotional exhaustion. We need to understand is that God is, in an of himself, an emotional being. In other words, emotions are not in the first instance a human characteristic but a divine one. God has the ability to not only think and to will but also to feel. Scripture reveals a whole host of emotions God has – love, joy, peace, anger, compassion, passion, frustration, good. Because he has made us in His image, humans are also emotional beings. But of course we know that our emotions, like our minds and bodies, are influenced greatly by the fall of humanity into sin. God’s emotions are not impacted nor shaped by sin, but ours are.

12 March 2023 | Today we will be looking into a new series called “When the journey is too much”. This series is mainly focused on our mental health and wellbeing, helping us understand deeper how do we navigate our mental health better. We’ll go to the scriptures on this and see how God works through Paul during a stressful and painful time in his life.

5th March | Rivers, by their very definition, are designed to always be moving. When a river stops moving or flowing, it ceases to become a river and becomes what is commonly known as a lake. God has not given us a ‘Lake Model’ vision here at the Vine. Now more than ever we are in a critical time of our city’s history where the church must move forward again, flowing outward to its city like never before.

26 February 2023 | Our getting to yes with God might mean different things for different people. For some it might mean saying yes to follow Jesus for the first time; for others it might be saying yes to be all in with Jesus – maybe we’re holding back in certain parts of our lives. For others it might be saying yes, or coming to agreement with God, in a certain situation, getting to Yes with God can sometimes be difficult for all of us.

19 February 2023 | This week we’ll be having a one of message on “Be Courageous” the focus is God is not downplaying the conditions Joshua is facing. But courage is formed in us when we shift our focus from our conditions to our convictions, and in through those are able to embrace our fears, release our failures, and take up our faith, so we can move forward to live the kind of life God has called us to live.

12 February 2023 | Isaiah ends his prophetic word of hope for the new with Israel by peeling back the curtain on the end of all things and inviting his people to get a glimpse of the hope there is in what God has in plan for the world as a whole. This prophetic glimpse is a picture of the New Jerusalem that will come as Jesus returns for the second time, bringing heaven and Earth together as one, and setting up a longed for hope that remains today.

5 February 2023 | Names are central in Scripture. God focuses on names and they mean a lot to him. There are so many times in the biblical narrative where God renames something, or does a play on word with names. Jesus did the same as he tried to speak a purpose over someone or release in them new hope. So God does so in Isaiah 62. He says that Israel will be called by a new name, one that now resembles the character they will have in the future.

29 January 2023 | When God moves in a new way and does a new thing, it always will result in us joining him in a new proclamation. His new action leads to our new song. A song that echoes the new work he is doing, and hence is ‘new’ itself. And that song is worship, it is glorification of God and it is drawing to attention the new work of God around us. God puts these new songs in us, so we can praise and glorify him in a way that is relevant to what he is doing

1 January 2023 | In this new series, we open by centring around the prophetic call of God in Isaiah 43:16-21 reminding us that we serve a God who is doing a new thing. However, the “new” that happens is not something we do but something God does. Our role is to perceive it, to see it and then to respond to it. We are only able to embrace God’s new thing in 2023 if we let go of the box, we have put God into. Can we open our eyes and perceive the brand new without filter or expectation? Will we see?

This idea of living securely was a great promise of better days – a time when the Jewish people would no longer need to live in fear, need to live in a foreign land, but will be secure in their place, secure in his protection and love. This future hope in the Old Testament continues to be our great hope today.
