Gerald Weston - TVCA1305 There is a popular myth that the second coming of Jesus Christ could happen at any time, even tonight. But this is a false doctrine that is contrary to scripture. A similar doctrine teaches that Christians will be whisked away to heaven in a sudden rapture as a way to escape the prophetic times ahead. How can so many be confused on this topic? What does the Bible really say?

It’s human nature to desire to make your voice heard, and democracy in one form or another is ingrained in us from an early age. Some candidates are elected to keep the country out of war, yet often end up in war. Whether it’s a country ruled by a king, a dictator, or an elected official, events outside of their control often define their rule. The United States is a Democratic Republic, where citizens cherish their voice in choosing their leaders. On November 19, 1863, former United States President Abraham Lincoln spoke these famous words in the aftermath of the American Civil War Battle at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain; that this nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom; and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth. Yes, government of the people, by the people, for the people is taken for granted as the way government should be, and although other nations may not use the same words, government by the people is in the hearts of many. But is there a better way? Not only IS there a better way, that better way is just around the corner.

Stuart Wachowicz - TVCA1308 During the height of World War 1, a remarkable announcement was made in London, which changed the course of history for the Jewish people. This Balfour Declaration served as an instrument of God, helping to ensure that there would be a Jewish state in the Middle East as the times of the end approach.

Jesus told His disciples, “You will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.” That’s in Matthew 10:23. In other words, they had a mission. They were to preach the gospel to the cities of Israel. But where were those cities? Many assume He was talking about the cities of the Jews. And certainly, they did go to those cities in His day. But what about after His death and resurrection? Where did they go? The apostles took the Gospel message to the Israelites where they had been scattered after the Assyrian captivity of 721 BC. And ultimately, that same Gospel was taken to regions all over the known world. As Christ commanded. Notice what He said, in Matthew 28, verses 18–20: “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” So, the Gospel message was made available to Israelites and non-Israelites. But did you notice something? Jesus also said, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Did the preaching of the Gospel message stop with the death of the apostles? Or would it be preached in the time just before Christ’s return? On today’s program, let’s answer that question. And at the same time, I want to give you a behind-the-scenes look at how Tomorrow’s World is striving to fulfill that very mission. Life is wonderful when we are healthy and all is going well. Under such circumstances we want it to go on forever, but our bodies don’t last. They break down and eventually, life in this flesh comes to an end. Then what? Many believe we have an immortal soul that immediately goes to heaven, or descends into a place of eternal torment. Ministers teach this to their congregations and parents teach this to their children. But is that what the Bible tells us about what happens when we die? There is no more important question than -- “When you die, then what?” Can you know? And where can you go for the answer? Science offers no answers. Philosophers speculate and disagree with one another. Some eastern religions teach reincarnation but have no proof. Only the Bible gives a credible answer, but it is not the one most think it is. You need to know for sure. On today’s program we will look at what the Bible actually says about life after death. One of the greatest mysteries of life is the question, what are human beings doing here on earth, what is their purpose in life. What is the purpose and meaning of your life? The word “Armageddon” is often used to describe earth-destroying dangers. This March 2024 edition of Astronomy magazine features this cover Headline: “COSMIC CATASTROPHES, How the Universe threatens life on earth,” p. 18, “The Universe is a terrifying place, filled with existential threats. Earth may seem quite solid beneath our feet, but the continued existence of the thin layers of rock, water, and air that sustain us is in no way guaranteed. Errant asteroids, soaring superflares, and exploding supernovae are just a few of the calamities that might befall our fragile world. In the short term, we may be able to manage or mitigate some of these threats. Asteroids can be diverted and power grids hardened. But other apocalypses are inevitable as the solar system ages: a runaway Moon, Earth’s collapsing magnetosphere, the Sun’s flagging heart. Each one represents a countdown to a different apocalypse, with some more imminent than others” (“These are the ways our world will end,” Astronomy.com, March 1, 2024). Your Bible confirms such cosmic dangers when the prophesied heavenly signs will terrify humans all over the earth. How will the great men and women react? Revelation 6:15, “And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, ‘Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?’” (Revelation 6:15–17). Yes, my friends, Bible prophecy reveals dramatic dangers just ahead of us, but also the good news of God’s coming Kingdom ruled by the Messiah, Jesus Christ, as King of kings and Lord of lords. Surprisingly, when Jesus Christ returns, all the world’s armies and powerful worldly military might will fight against the coming conquering King in the battle of Armageddon. Greetings, and welcome to Tomorrow’s World, where we help you to make sense of your world through the pages of the Bible. We’re glad you’re here, and today’s question is one of the most important questions you could ever ask: Is Jesus God? This question about Jesus is important. Estimates indicate around 2.4 billion people in the world claim Christianity as their religion—almost half-a-billion more than claim Islam and more than a billion more than claim Hinduism. Yet, even as almost one-third of the planet claims a religion centered on the person of Jesus Christ, many of those same people disagree on exactly who He really was. For some, even some claiming to be Christian, Jesus was simply a man—a Jewish teacher in the first century, who just happened to have an outsized impact on world culture. The late Shelby Spong, a bishop in the Episcopal Church, was quite famous for his stance that Jesus was not actually God, was not born from a virgin, and was never resurrected. Other religions claiming to be Christian teach different things about Jesus’ divinity. Some teach that Jesus was a created being, like the angels. Some identify Him with the archangel Michael. Others claim that Jesus and the Devil were brothers in the past. And others, further, claim that Jesus and the Father are the very same person, and not two separate divine persons, at all. Outside of nominal Christianity, ideas vary, as well. Some religions consider Jesus to have been a holy man, or wise guru, or even a prophet, but not truly divine in the way God is divine. Others consider Him a manifestation of God, like an avatar, or some sort of ascended master in the manner of new age teachings. And then, there are those who don’t think He ever existed—as if He were a figment of the imagination, or a fiction created in the first century to form the basis of a new religion. Perhaps we should tackle this question first, in the event some of you have been infected by this pernicious lie. There is abundant evidence that Jesus of Nazareth did, indeed, exist. Even if we treat the New Testament not as Scripture, but as a mere human product of history, just like Homer’s Iliad or Caesar’s commentaries, it provides abundant evidence that Jesus was a real person, going back to within two or three decades of His life. We even have a fragment from the gospel of John, the famous Rylands Library Papyrus P52, that dates back to within a handful of years after the Apostle John is believed to have written it. And, outside of the New Testament, a number of secular historical records refer to Jesus and the impact of His teachings and example in the first century. The contemporary Jewish historian Josephus, the Roman historian Tacitus, and Pliny the Younger all speak of Jesus Christ as a real person—much too early in the historical record for some imaginary account to have taken hold so profoundly. In fact, one of the most effective defenders of the very real existence of Jesus Christ is New Testament scholar Bart Ehrman. While Ehrman has publicly declared that he does not believe Jesus was divine, does not believe in the supernatural, and does not consider himself a Christian, he is just as clear that the evidence for Jesus’ existence is overwhelming. Referring to those who claim Jesus’ existence is just a myth, Ehrman writes, “It is fair to say that mythicists as a group, and as individuals, are not taken seriously by the vast majority of scholars in the field of New Testament, early Christianity, ancient history, and theology” (Did Jesus Exist? The Historical Argument for Jesus of Nazareth, 2012. p. 20). In fact, almost all scholars, secular and religious alike, tend to agree. As Ehrman summarizes, “Despite the enormous range of opinion, there are several points on which virtually all scholars of antiquity agree. Jesus was a Jewish man, known to be a preacher and teacher, who was crucified (a Roman form of execution) in Jerusalem during the reign of the Roman emperor Tiberius, when Pontius Pilate was the governor of Judea” (p. 12). In short, those who say that Jesus never existed should be taken as seriously as those who say the tooth fairy or Santa Claus do exist. Facts are facts. And the man Jesus of Nazareth did live and walk this earth around two thousand years ago in Judea, teaching around the Sea of Galilee and in Jerusalem. But is that where the story ends? A great teacher dies in His early thirties and just happens to have a religion founded in His name? Or was Jesus more than a man?

Our planet, Earth, is an extraordinary creation, teeming with life, diverse ecosystems, and natural wonders. In the end times, God will use catastrophic events—such as devastating hailstorms, volcanic eruptions, and meteor strikes—as a means to get humanity’s attention and to bring about His ultimate plan of redemption. One Belt, One Road: A Success or a Warning? - Presenter: Stuart Wachowicz (TVCA1307) Few people in the world have not heard of the Belt and Road Initiative. This is the massive trading partnership initiated by China in 2013, which has now grown, beyond any initial expectations, to become a major economic challenger to the G7 group of nations. This initiative offers our Western nations an opportunity to examine themselves and do a reality check on how we are doing in comparison.

The well-known hymn, Standing on the Promises, by Russell Carter is familiar to most church-goers. But what are those promises? Do you know? If you guess, “Salvation through Jesus Christ,” that is certainly one of the promises. But do you know to whom that promise was given, and what other promise accompanied it? And do you realize that this other promise explains what is happening geopolitically in our world today? We read in Genesis 12, and verses 2–3, that a man named Abram was told to leave his country and go to a place that God had chosen for him, and he would be blessed mightily if he did so. Notice these promises: I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed. (Genesis 12:2–3) It is generally understood that, …in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed. …is a reference to the Messiah—Jesus Christ. But what about the blessing of national greatness? Is this fulfilled by the tiny state we now call Israel? Or was it the kingdom of Israel under Kings David or Solomon? Or does it mean far more than that? The promise of a Savior is general knowledge, but we’ll see on today’s program, one of the most remarkable truths of scripture. It is a truth so plain a child can understand, but one that theologians fail to explain. That truth is the promise of national greatness to Abraham, and it explains what we see in our world today. Stay with me now, as we’ll look at the promises of God to Abraham—promises that God cannot, and has not, broken.

Billions of people in the world are missing out on the New Testament message of abundant living. Human reason, including non-biblical ideas of “human love,” continues to lead the world toward suffering, confusion, and disaster. What is the true way to love and peace in the world? Most professing Christians know the answer, Matthew 22:37. Jesus Christ gave these two principles to be obeyed by every human being: “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” [Matthew 22:37-40] My friends, this is the way to true life, meaning, and fulfillment. But why do so few enjoy this true life? Because human beings do not like to be told what to do. These are “commandments” and humans resist commandments, including the Ten Commandments. But many would rather remain ignorant, because it suits their selfish desires. Aldous Huxley, the famous English author, expressed this perspective well: “Most ignorance is vincible ignorance. We don't know because we don't want to know. It is our will that decides how and upon what subjects we shall use our intelligence.” (Ends and Means, p. 312). But there IS a God, and He commands us to love Him! The First Great Commandment to love God is defined by the first four of the Ten Commandments, and the Fourth Commandment of the Ten emphasizes a weekly action in loving God. Exodus 20:8–10, “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.” Which day is the Christian Sabbath? Some see it as a sign of turbulent times and mourn the loss; while others view it as a monumental step forward, a necessary separation from an unpleasant past. What does it really mean for our nation.

Easter Sunday was a fun day when I was a child. Who doesn’t like a treasure hunt? We decorated eggs, wrote names on them, and hid them from one another. Then we set out to find those with our names on them. Sometimes we would go to larger treasure hunts where dozens of children ran about looking for any egg to add to their basket. It all seemed like harmless fun. Who could possibly be against it? But, we never stopped to ask, Why are we doing this? What does it have to do with the resurrection of Christ? On February 24, 2022, Russian tanks rolled across the border into Ukraine. They attacked in the north from Belarus, in the south from occupied Crimea, and they attacked from the east, heading toward the capital Kiev. Just one month before, Germany had been reluctant to send weapons to Ukraine, not wanting to inflame already tense relations with Russia. The Germans infamously offered the Ukrainians just 5,000 helmets in response to their plea for help, as Russian troops amassed at the border. But just two days after the invasion of February 24, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a surprise announcement. He committed the German government to increased military spending in 2022 by 100 billion euros. And, he pledged to send Ukraine 1,000 anti-tank weapons and 500 surface-to-air missiles. This move did not just put Vladimir Putin on notice that Germany would stand with the Ukrainians... It also signaled a radical shift in Germany’s policy, one that had stood for decades. As the news website France24 noted, “Often described as predictable and ‘robotic,’ Chancellor Olaf Scholz has become emboldened since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, smashing policy taboos to steer Germany into ‘a new era’ that could reshape its role on the world stage.” (February 28, 2022) And that’s exactly what this shift has done--radically change Germany’s post-war policy. Since World War 2, Germany has not allowed its weapons makers to export into war zones. It has not even allowed third parties to buy them for use in these areas. That policy was a reaction to Germany’s dark, Nazi past. But now, everything has changed. This policy about-face has been nothing less than stunning. But there’s more to the story. You see, it’s not just that Germany is taking a more muscular approach to its own defense and its neighbors’ defense. There’s something else happening behind the scenes. What does it mean for Bible prophecy? And where will it lead in the end-times? We’ll discuss that today, on Tomorrow’s World. (“NYC school encourages kids to stop using words like ‘mom,’ ‘dad’ in ‘inclusive language’ guide,” NYPost.com) Grace Church School serves junior kindergarten through 12th grade students in Noho, NY and offers a 12-page guide for students and staff on making this Episcopal school all inclusive. The guide explains that instead of using Mom and Dad, students and staff should use “grown-ups, folks, or family.” And instead of “husband, wife, boyfriend, or girlfriend” they should use “spouse, partner, or significant other.” (“Grace Inclusive Language Guide”) There is no end to guides published by institutions of learning, businesses, governments, and the media on how to revolutionize how we speak to one another. Eicher describes the dangers we face today: “The risk from asteroids impacting Earth and causing widespread damage, death, and catastrophe is real, and is present every day of our lives. But it is to a degree a counterintuitive threat, which makes it hard for some people to take seriously. The risk at any given moment is almost nonexistent, but given enough time, a catastrophic event will happen again. Do we need to worry about an asteroid strike during our next foray out to lunch? Probably not. But someday a large enough asteroid with Earth’s name on it will enter the picture, causing horror and mayhem for humanity. Unless we do something about it, that is.” (ibid.) Your Bible reveals future astronomical events as well as major military conflicts. Revelation the sixth chapter describes cosmic disturbances: “And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place.” (Revelation 6:13-14). The movie “Armageddon” used the title to depict the cataclysmic end-of-the world danger described in your Bible. Bible scholars describe Armageddon as the final battle between good and evil. Professor Judith Adler at Memorial University in Newfoundland had a hunch that her students lacked basic geographical knowledge, knowledge fundamental to understanding the world around them--thus she decided to examine her hunch by testing her students. As reported in Canada’s National Post, under the headline, “Lost without a map: Despite a globalized society, university students can’t locate the Atlantic Ocean,” she reported: “I used to ask if they could identify France, England or Ireland--which is the background of a lot of students here, or Spain or Portugal, which is important for this part of the world, but I’ve stopped asking that.” (January 15, 2013) Over time, she simplified her questions. “I asked them to indicate where on the map South America is, where Africa is, and Antarctica, the Arctic, and to circle Europe, label Australia and show where Asia is and label the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans and Mediterranean Sea--and I’ve become much simpler in what I have asked over the years,” Ms. Adler says. How did her students fare? I think you can see ahead that they didn’t do very well, but why is this important? I’ll answer these questions in a moment. Not long ago, I attended the college commencement exercises for my daughter. It was an exciting day for the students who had worked so hard to finish their studies. As I watched, it was gratifying to think about the hard work and determination it took for each of those graduates just to be there. One of the top students in the class gave the valedictorian address. He was a young man, probably in his early 30s, who had distinguished himself as an outstanding student. He told his story, and gave a really remarkable speech. He spoke of challenges and obstacles--some very personal--that he had overcome. It was quite touching. He was there with his wife and his young daughter, and I couldn’t help but feel admiration for this man and what he was already making of his life. Toward the end of his talk, he spoke of the women in his life--his mother, his daughter, his wife--and how important they were to him. But then his speech went down a perplexing path. He addressed the men in the audience and said, “Really the best thing we can do for the women in our lives, is just get out of the way.” I thought to myself, Wow, what a shocking statement! Out of all the things we could say to a generation of young men, that’s the best we can expect? At that moment, there were thousands of men in the audience. I thought of them. I asked myself, Is this going to inspire them to dream great dreams, to be builders of society, and to strive to serve and give of themselves to their families? When the best we expect of them is just “Get out of the way.” I walked away shaking my head. Not because I’m against men learning to honor and respect and admire the women in their lives. No, quite the contrary. Rather, I thought, what a shame for the opportunity missed to show both men and women they can help each other. Life is made up of relationships, the most important being marriage. And a marriage partnership between a man and a woman takes teamwork and sacrifice on both sides. What IS the best a man can do? How CAN he be successful in marriage and in life? The answer doesn’t come from the woke agenda of our modern world that believes masculinity is toxic. Rather, the answer lies in understanding a man’s real purpose. And that purpose is revealed in the Bible. Today on Tomorrow’s World, I’d like to explore this topic. Don Feder, in a March 29, 2022 Washington Times opinion piece, wrote: The study by the prestigious American Enterprise Institute--“Generation Z and the future of faith in America” (released on March 24)--shows a steady erosion of religious affiliation and the corresponding rise of atheism and agnosticism. (“The fatal fall of religion in America will affect everything,” The Washington Times, March 29, 2022). Some may wonder whether this trend is harmful to our modern nations, but Feder warned: This just-published survey of the decline of religion in America should set off alarm bells in our heads. The growth of secularism is one more cause for anxiety about the future of our republic. What happens to individuals and nations when they forget their Creator? Generals, dictators, and despots have tried to rule the world. Their capital cities were monumental and impressive. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon built one of the designated Seven Wonders of the World, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The historian Herodotus wrote, “In addition to its size, Babylon surpasses in splendor any city in the known world.” The Bible documents the King’s great pride and boasting over his accomplishments. The prophet Daniel had warned the king to humble himself. “At the end of the twelve months he [King Nebuchadnezzar] was walking about the royal palace of Babylon. The king spoke, saying, ‘Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?’” (Daniel 4:29-30). God punished King Nebuchadnezzar, who finally learned his lesson: “Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down.” (Daniel 4:37). The Nazi dictator, Adolph Hitler, in his plan to rule the world, envisioned a world capital to last a thousand years. Albert Speer, Hitler’s architect for the future city, planned a Grand Hall next to the Reichstag that “would have been the largest enclosed space in the world, with a dome 16 times larger than that of St Peter’s in Rome” according to HistoryToday.com. (“Germania: Hitler’s Dream Capital”) Of course, Hitler fell before the Allied armies in World War II. Bible prophecy reveals that another great dictator, called the “Beast” in the book of Revelation, will desire to rule the world and establish his own capital. As it tells us in Revelation 13:7, “And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.” The good news is that the coming King of kings will conquer and destroy this coming Beast power (Revelation 17:14) and Jesus Christ will establish a righteous world capital city. What city will become the capital of the world? In spite of today’s conflicts, Jerusalem in Israel will soon become the glorious capital of the world. Does that sound impossible? Trumpets figure prominently in the prophetic language of the Bible. Most people have heard of the seven trumpets of Revelation.
