Tubbataha Reef is known for its extraordinary biodiversity, abundant marine life, and breathtaking drop-offs into the open ocean. Tubbataha Reef was discovered by divers in the late 1970s. The area covers 130,028 hectares of high-quality marine habitats containing three atolls and a large area of the deep sea. Tubbataha is home to 374 species of coral and almost 500 species of fish.

A mangrove is a shrub or tree that grows in coastal saline or brackish water. The term is also used for tropical coastal vegetation consisting of such species. Palawan bearcats or most commonly known as Palawan binturong is a distant relative of civets. While civets look like a cross between a weasel and a cat, Palawan bearcats are more like the combination of a bear and a cat.
