Wildlife Philippines talks about ecosystems, animal and plants species, and environmental issues in different parts of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. It is collaborative podcast channel of more than 20 Institutes of Environmental Governance which aimed to provide educational trivia and important facts about biodiversity conservation and wildlife protection, an excellent learning aid for teachers and students! This podcast is an initiative under the Partnership for Biodiversity Conservation 3 of Tanggol Kalikasan and is being supported by the USAID and the US DOI-ITAP.

    Holothuria scabra or sandfish is locally known as teripang in indonesia, gamat in malaysia and balat here in the philippines it is considered as the highest valued tropical sea cucumber species but it is one of the most commercially exploited aquatic species in southeast asia. Sea cucumber is a multi-million dollar industry especially in food business and pharmaceutical industries.

  • 55 - Tubbataha Reef

    Tubbataha Reef is known for its extraordinary biodiversity, abundant marine life, and breathtaking drop-offs into the open ocean. Tubbataha Reef was discovered by divers in the late 1970s. The area covers 130,028 hectares of high-quality marine habitats containing three atolls and a large area of the deep sea. Tubbataha is home to 374 species of coral and almost 500 species of fish.

    A mangrove is a shrub or tree that grows in coastal saline or brackish water. The term is also used for tropical coastal vegetation consisting of such species. Mangroves occur worldwide in the tropics and subtropics and even some temperate coastal areas, mainly between latitudes 30° N and 30° S with the greatest mangrove area within 5° of the equator.
