We talk about TV in the 80's, and Ted tells me about his experiences being a black man on a white show. A WORD FROM RAE LYNN by The X-Rae Podcast with Iris Bahr & Rae Lynn

My final installment of the X-RAE in Israel series. Chen Alon is a theatre director and former Major in the Israeli army turned refusenik and peace activist alongside former Palestinian militant Souli Khatib. Together they founded Combatants for Peace to bring peace about through nonviolent activities, that include site specific theatre performances at various checkpoints between Israel and the occupied territories. Chen dives deep into his journey from the son of Holocaust survivors and staunch Zionist and military man to disillusioned refusenik and now theatre director and activist. A fun and festive guy that opened my eyes on a bunch of stuff. Check it out!

Itai Anghel has spent almost thirty years in various war zones across the globe, from Bosnia to Rwanda to Iraq and Syria and back. He shares his profound experiences covering the most dangerous places on earth, not to mention as an Israeli ‘undercover’ in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and more. A fascinating gentleman indeed.

I sat down with Israeli NGOer, Eran Shayshon, to talk about his work dealing with the BDS movement (Boycott Divest Sanction). He breaks down exactly what the movement entails and the challenges in trying to separate legitimate criticism of Israeli policies versus acts that aim at the delegitimization of Israel as a state. Heavy stuff folks, but friggin interesting, even for a non-Jew.

Boaz Gaon is the founder and CEO of WISDO, a social impact app that battles loneliness in a super cool way. Take a listen. (This ep is part of what I’m calling my Start Up explorations during my time in Israel. There are so many start- ups here it's friggin overwhelming, but I narrowed them down to some fun ones I thought were important and I’ll be sharing them with you.

This one is powerful folks. Souli Khatib is a Palestinian that spent 10 years in prison for stabbing two Israeli soldiers. While incarcerated, he educated himself, learned about the Holocaust, engaged in non violent protests that yielded fruit, and underwent a major transformation. Once released from prison, he co-founded the organization Combatants for Peace, advocating and engaging in non-violent peace activism.

This week’s episode is part of my new OCCUPATION WEEK theme where i interview a random person accomplished in their field. Since so many of my friends are going through nasty divorces i thought getting the skinny from a divorce attorney would be a fun yet informative episode that would help the masses and give insight into this sordid occupation lovingly called FAMILY LAW!! I’ve tried to keep the dude's name private, but it may have slipped out once or twice during the interview. Oh well. ENJOY!!

A brilliant guy who shares fascinating insights on Broadway, casting dilemmas (like the whole Scarlett Johannsen playing a trans character), and culture as a whole. We talk about the value of critics in society and why we need to diversify the critic pool (with people like me. Or just me). This episode is a gem not just for theatre buffs, but for people that have never stepped inside one and can’t even stand entertainment as a concept.

I chatted up a storm with "shock jocks" Aaron Berg and Geno Bisconte (i chose to use that term cuz i love it so much) , these dudes are known for their politically incorrect humor and as expected, this turned out to be one of my feistiest episodes yet. We debated the value of shocking/offensive humor, Aaron opened up about his life as a stripper and the effect of steroids on his sex drive and Geno got crap from me about his morning drinking habits. Things got kinda dark at the outset of our convo, as we danced between the college admission scandal to Leaving Neverland (I cut out a chunk of our chat on prostitution & the Robert Kraft- Massage spa scandal, but will be offering that as bonus content), but then we segued (God I love that word) to talkin’ about Richard's work with the Coen Brothers, Clint Eastwood, The Oscars and how Richard dives into character.

Oh my Lord, comic Liza Treyger is so funny and salty and smart I couldn’t get enough of her. She also got me talking about fashion and porn stars more than I ever thought was possible! I still dream of his coke fueled scene in Boogie Nights and have seen him be nothing short of brilliant in everything he’s done ever since. He welcomed me into his home in LA and we had a festive chat about acting techniques, losing one’s shit on set, #metoo, and Shakespeare.

Star of Arrested Development and Veep, comedic genius and fellow Southerner, Tony Hale, speaks truth to power (in between severe allergic wheezing to the cats roaming around the house we snuck into), about his love of malls, parenting, Mad Libs, Bill Murray, and his new animated series on Netflix that features an enlightened chicken! We had a friggin blast, I’m just sorry for the subpar audio quality on this puppy, its all my fault. But it's still funny as hell. Good comedy wins every time!

He shares fascinating stories and inspiring life insights he gleaned from getting up close and personal with the worlds most famous thinkers, leaders and artists and how it all started when he got rejected from Adelaide Community College in Australia (something i gave him quite a lot of Sh&^ for.) You’re gonna love this guy.

Southern Charm and wit abounds in this gem of an episode, as Georgia born & bred comic, Mia Jackson, guides me through her journey from growing up in a mostly black community to attending a dominantly white college, working with horse cadavers (kind of), hooking up with Amy Schumer (not sexually dammit), her delightfully long distance relationship with boyfriend Ransom, and the tour de force: her sister, aka “The Sniper”.

God! I loved talking to this kid. This was a fun one. Ricky Velez is a super talented young comic from Queens. This is fun and juicy one, folks. Lucie Pohl is a performer, comic and voice actress who has become famous as the lead character in the hit video game OVERWATCH. Lucie dishes out hilarious fandom stories from her global Overwatch tour, her family history in East Germany, her famed family member Bertolt Brecht and how she is dealing with being single for the first time in 16 years.

Tim Doner became a sensation when he posted a video of himself speaking 20 different languages at age 16. Now a middle east analyst, Tim shares fascinating insights on the history of Iran, Islam and the current political climate.
