- 102 - Ep 62 - David Andrew James (Bag of Lies)
Actor turned filmmaker, David Andrew James (who shares a striking resemblence to Shia LaBeouf) has been making a lot of noise in the horror world with his film “Bag of Lies”. The simplicity of the film and relatable storyline really packed a punch on me and I had to have him on the pod to hear how it all began!

Interview with Michael Ciminna ("Jack's Lantern" and "By the Campfire"
I’ve known filmmaker Michael Ciminna for a number of years and I always wanted to bring him on the pod but our schedules never lined up. This Halloween he’s releasing a great proof of concept film called “Jack’s Lantern” about a young boy who believes his jack-o-lanterns can come to life. We talk about growing up and riding bikes, making movies and more!
Check out “Jack’s Lantern” streaming on YouTube and Vimeo! While you’re there, check out Ciminna’s other film, “By The Campfire,” a great psychological thriller short.

Welcome to "Cult Classics with Chris," the podcast within "Classic American Movies" where I will interview cult filmmakers. This time I'm talking with William Malone. There is a 100% chance you’ve seen his work: he designed masks (creating the Michael Myers’ mask), he’s made many fun horror films for over 40 years including Tales From the Crypt episodes, movies and more!
I’ve been a big fan of Malone’s since I first saw his 1999 remake of “House on Haunted Hill” (as discussed in Miriam and my’s episode) and finally getting a chance to sit down and talk with him was a lot of fun. From start to finish, he truly was inspiring to talk to and offered a lot of knowledge on films as well as cracking a lot of jokes. A wonderful class act of a man. Please check out his YouTube channel, Undertaking Cinema where William discusses all things cinema!

Also, I decided to write and direct my first slasher flick, called "Bishop's Day"! Check out the Instagram page for updates.Tue, 08 Oct 2024 - 99 - Ep 61 - FearDotCom (Part 2)
One of the big reasons I love having Ryan on the pod is that he always brings a lot of information and knows how to use it. We do a deeper talk on this cult classic as well as talk about what the dark web actually is. This episode packs a lot of information that the average person doesn’t know about the internet. Remeber to check out Videodrome to rent this flick as well as many other 2000's horror classics!

Be on the lookout for an indie slasher that I'm making called "Bishop's Day." Check out the instgram page for updates!Wed, 25 Sep 2024 - 98 - Bonus Episode - BS vol 3
One of the more popular episodes I have done was the snippets of stuff I talk about with my guest hosts, in which I call bs’ing. There’s no hot takes or anything controversial, this is literally what it’s like to hang out with me and my friends. We talk movies, LOTR (shocking) and more movies!
If you’re not doing so already, please like and follow Classic American Movies on Instagram and Facebook. I do free movie giveaways, mini movie reviews and more!
Be on the lookout for "Bishop's Day", a proof of concept film I wrote and will be directing. It's "Friday the 13th", "Scream" and "Valentine" in one fun, violent slasher!Thu, 19 Sep 2024 - 97 - Ep. 60 - Feardotcom (Part 1)
What do you do about the title of your movie when the person who owns the internet domain won’t sell? Well, you add “Dotcom” to your title!
Ryan McCurdy (of the Ranked) podcast is back to talk about a flick I still have the ticket for after seeing it in theaters 22 years ago! At the time, the internet was pretty unknown to the general public and the first thing filmmakers did was make a horror movie about it! I saw "feardotcom" when I was 18 and didn’t think about it since then. However, much like “Gothika,” I kept seeing the DVD at the Goodwill and thought it was time to talk about this nostalgic internet killer thriller. As usual, Ryan and I can’t stop talking and this episode became a two-parter. I loved this movie after rewatching it and after finding out Videodrome didn't have it to rent, I gave them my copy!

Straight out of out the Appalachia Mountains in North Carolina, friend of mine Keaton Lange has been writing and creating music for over 20 years. Being a natural story teller, his lyrics paint a wonderful picture on a canvas of folk music that is a true gem to listen to. I’ve been wanting to bring him on the pod for awhile and with the release of his second EP, “The Runaway,” I couldn’t think of a better time. I was thrilled to finally sit down and talk with him about his lyrics, inspirations and life.
Keaton has a live performance this Saturday, August 31st at the PYK Gallery in Atlanta. Doors open at 7pm. Click the link for tickets!

Last time we saw Ziggy, we were talking about the Tarantino-inspired crime thriller “Suicide Kings.” This episode was supposed to recorded months prior to us actually recording it, but many circumstances prevented Zig and I from recording.
“Soul Survivors,” is arguably the most complex college-aged horror film of the 2000’s, and I’ve seen most of them. An-all star cast (before they became massive names), when they were all working on their craft shine in this often looked-over flick. The pod, much like the movie, was all over the place and I was thrilled to have Zig with me to on this journey! I do free movie giveaways, mini movie reviews and more!Mon, 12 Aug 2024 - 94 - Ep. 57 - The Gift (with Drew Whitehouse)Arguably the best thriller in recent years, 2015’s “The Gift” rocked audiences and certified Joel Edgerton as a serious writer/director. Also, Drew Whitehouse, an old friend of mine hadn’t seen it and was looking for a David Fincher style film. So I brought him on the pod to talk abbot what he thought of it.

Magician, cigar aficionado, horror filmmaker.
Billy Chase Goforth is an up-and-coming filmmaker that has been making a lot of noise online with his flick, “Door in the Woods” Billy isn’t just a one trick guy, he has his hands on just about everything and I was glad to have him on the show to talk about his many talents! In 2003, Dark Castle was almost on its way out. Sadly, they came in with a fiery presence and quietly exited. “Gothic,” which was made hot off of Halle Berry winning her Oscar, and when Robert Downey Jr was doing any movie the was handed to him. With a stellar cast, solid writer, director and cinematographer, has this movie stayed for the test of time? Join friend of the pod, Farmer and I as we do a deep discussion on this film that has been making its way back into the world’s streaming devices. Mon, 01 Jul 2024 - 91 - Cult Classics with Chris - Ep. 27 - Nick Roth (Hanky Panky)
Nick Roth comes from a filmmaking family and did a “blood oath” to not pursue that path, until he went with his father to China to make one wild crazy flick in 2013 called “Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe”. The movie was a nightmare to shoot, but it jumpstarted Nick’s interested and drove him to become a film professor at Cal State Northridge as an adjunct professor in cinema studies and eventually leading to his own film, “Hanky Panky,” a horror comedy about a man and his napkin friend saving the world from a dark evil in a cabin.

All my life, at least as far back as seeing “Batman” in 1989, some of my favorite memories were spent in theaters. I can still remember the way most of them looked, smelled, the popcorn, soda … I love it! So when the idea of this pod about my favorite times at the theater came up, I immediately thought of Mark from Movies, Films and Flix to talk about his favorite times. Together, we discuss movies, working and so much more!

Ryan McCurdy (of the Ranked Podcast) is back to wrap up Rob Zombie’s unplanned trilogy with “3 From Hell.” This was arguably the movie with the most positive reviews of Zombie’s career. Join us as we discuss the unusual profits of this flick, the day by day production, shooting in bad weather and so much more! I was surprised that my last BS episode was a big hit, so I figured I would make another one! This time, I made it a little more focused: My friends and I speak candidly about shock cinema; why I don't have a Netflix account and Farmer tells the story about her first time on a film set.

Caleb has been making movies for the last few years and made a big splash with his horror short “The Other Side of the Box.” I loved it and LOVE his follow up “Play Me”. Both films display true filmmaking talent and suspensful terror. Super thrilled to sit down for a little bit and chat to this up-and-coming filmmaker about where it started, how it's going and where it's headed to.

Burger brings the lettuce to talk more on “The Devil’s Rejects.” One of the reasons why I love having the Ranked co-star on my show is that he comes overly prepared and has a lot to talk about, which is why we usually have two-part episodes. We both loved the music so much on this we did a top 5 music in movies ranking, hangout movies, B-movies and more!

Quite possibly one of the most recognizable names ever, Alex Cox joins me to talk about his iconic career, spanning over four decades. After realizing being an actor wasn’t in the cards, Alex decided to move to production (which was unpopular at the time) and has been making beautiful films since. "Repo Man," "Sid and Nancy," and "Straight to Hell," are just some of his iconic masterpieces.
We talk about his early life, inspirations and his latest (as of the recording) movie “Tombstone Rashomon,” which is a retelling of the famous gunfight at the OK Corral, but from everyone’s perspective.

Every once in a while I’ll allow friends to pick a movie to research for the podcast. Baroque has been asking to do this flick for sometime now and I finally broke down and said yes. We both do a deep dive in the history of D, Jack Black as The Genie in the live action “Aladdin” franchises and more! Tenacious D really isn’t my thing, but I was glad to have finally watched this flick and it’s obvious why “Destiny” has become a cult classic over the years.

When I record a podcast, the majority of the time, I'll have the mics on and I'll chat with my guests for awhile about anything. I like to do this to loosen them up, feel at home and generally welcomed. Being on a podcast can be nerve racking and the last thing you want to do is sound stupid or come off in the wrong light.
So, what I have here is a compilation of clips from various guests that have come over and we talked. Not always about movies, but overall it was fun and interesting to re-listen to some of these forgotten gems.Fri, 16 Feb 2024 - 79 - Ep. 49 - Shawn Wright (FaceMelt Features)
Channeling the energy of creative geniuses like Sean Cunningham and Al Adamson, Baltimore indie filmmaker Shawn Wright is bringing back the sleazy gory horror films of yore with his production company FaceMelt Features. His first feature, “Night of the Axe” was a fun throwback to the 80’s slasher and his follow up “Spirit Board” (based on the Ouija horror films) is currently in preproduction. After chatting with Shawn, it’s very clear he has a promising future in horror films and I’m looking forward to seeing more of his work.

Since seeing the advertisement for this flick in the late 90’s, I’ve always loved it! The ultimate throwback horror film for horror nerds. Jessica (from the “Ghosts of Appalachia” Halloween special) joins me to talk about one of the most memorable movies that kicked off Rob Zombie’s other career. We both did a lot of research and had a blast chatting about one of the grimiest, dirtiest violent flicks to hit 2003.

Tue, 16 Jan 2024 - 76 - Ep. 46 - Hooper
We're kicking the new year off with the movie that has explosions, stunts on stunts and as much fun as you would expect from Hall Needham and Burt Reynolds in the late 70's!
Friend of mine and fan of the pod, Cole was talking to me one day and was looking for a film recommendation. I asked what kinds of movies he liked. Action comedies with killer stunts ( I mean who doesn’t love that?) came up. You can’t go much further then the classic “Hooper” with a wonderful love letter to the stunt and film world from the legend himself, Hal Needham, when he and Burt Reynolds were at the height of their powers. So I brought Cole on the show to talk about it. Turns out he’s a huge Jan Micheal Vincent fan, so not only was this such a treat to watch, but a blast to research. If you’re not doing so already, check out Classic American Movies on Facebook and Instagram. I do appreciation posts, free movie giveaways and more!Thu, 04 Jan 2024 - 75 - Christmas Special - Lee Harry (Director, Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2)
For my Christmas Special this year I’m interviewing the director, co-writer and editor of one of the most iconic holiday horror films ever: “Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2”! I had previously interviewed Eric Freeman (star of “Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2”) and he had hooked me up with director Lee.
Not just a driector, but Lee is an amazing, award winning editor and I reccomend everyone checking out his work here.
Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the ultimate cult classic is in this episode, and I really mean that. Between Eric and Lee, you'll know all the ins and outs of this flick and it's fun!

Writer/director Marcus Albino, co-founder of Cloak and Cauldron Films and producer Brad Frizzell , founder of Greeked Pictures created this this great crime drama thats making a lot of buzz called “Black Maria.” Recently, it was nominated for "Best Short Film" at Shockfest. I instantly loved it and since a mutual friend (who also happens to be a fan of the podcast) worked on it, got us in touch and we started chatting.
The movie is really intense and has one of the best crafted dinner scenes I’ve seen in years! Check out Cloak and Cauldron Films for more. I guarantee you'll be hearing a lot from these guys in the future!

One of my all-time favorite genres is murder mystery. However, this movie does it with a twist: The audience already knows who did it, but we don’t know why. Join Ryan (of the Ranked podcast) and me as we do a super deep dive into this early 2000’s thriller starring an up-and-coming star Ryan Gosling! Back in 2015, a young Romanian filmmaker revived an all but dead genre of filmmaking with his ultimate cult film, “Be My Cat: A Film For Anne.” I stumbled upon this flick while scrolling through Tubi and I am thrilled I did! It is such a rollercoaster of great filmmaking and, honestly, I couldn’t tell if Adrian was acting or not. His wife, Duru, an accomplished singer and actress from Turkey, have been putting their next masterpiece together for the last seven years, “We Put the World To Sleep” and I had to have them on to talk about their incredible careers!
When you're done with the pod, please check out their social media pages (look up their names); listen to Duru's singing and please donate to help them make their next film.

Coming straight out of Montreal, Sébastien Landry (Seb) and Laurence Morais Lagacé (Baz) created one crazy, violent, fun, and well shot horror film called “Game of Death.” The stylish flick really got the duo the chance to spread their creative wings and let loose! Over the years, they had shot tons of music videos, as well as doing their own separate projects, all of which are beautiful and creative in their own light. I was super excited to talk to these guys about their amazing career as well as music (as they really know their stuff), Nu Metal making a comeback, and so much more! "Game" is streaming on Tubi.

This year for Halloween I decided to have friends over to tell real ghost stories that have happened to them (as well as myself). I asked my friend Kamilla about any paranormal experiences she had and she told me about The Read House in her hometown of Chattanooga, TN. Although beautiful in every sense of the word, the hotel is known for the haunted room 311 where a woman had either killed herself or was killed while staying in the room in the early 1920’s. Guests have reported strange noises, drawers opening on their own and spots forming on pictures taken during their stay. She also tells stories abotu her own paranormal experiences in her home.

Critics really didn't like it, but audiences were split. At the time, "Austin Powers" was rocking the theatrical circuit (I still have my original ticket to when my mom took me) and TOCNM had a very limited release (reportedly, around seven theaters in America showed this for two weeks).

Without a doubt, you've seen Tamra's work. She is the director of so many iconic music videos and movies over the years. She’s directed actors like Chris Rock, Phil Hartman, Dave Chappelle, Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler and music videos for The Smiths, Faith No More, MC Lyte, Young MC, Tone Loc, Hanson, and thats just barely scratching the surface!
We talk about growing up with a comedy writer grandfather, who wrote jokes for everyone, quite literally. “The Collingswood Story” is the movie that tons of filmmakers should thank for being made. In the late 90’s/early 00’s, due to the massive success of “The Blair Witch Project”, there was a scramble to make found footage horror. With laptops and webcams and a world wide reach, Mike Costanza saw a movie to be made that no one else saw: Screen Life Horror. The film would marry home webcams with horror elements to create a wonderful and scary film like the world had never seen. Mike and I chat about movies, his early days of editing and his awesome attention to detail that made this movie what it was.

- 47 - Ep. 30 - The Dead Next Door with bonus James L . Edwards interview
Man, oh man do I love this flick! It's one of those ultra-low budget movies from the 80's that you can feel an entire city (Akron, OH, to be exact) helping out to make a filmmaker's dream come true. It was secretly financed by Sam Raimi with his pay for "The Evil Dead II" and voice over's were all done by Bruce Campbell (who voices several people), Ted Raimi and other shemps.
I love showing this movie to folks, and my good friend Clay Chamberlin joins the pod to discover this classic slice of zombie horror you should watch and make part of your personal collection.
Stay tuned in after the episode for an interview with James L. Edwards, who was a 12-year-old boy who's life would be forever changed when he answered an ad in a newspaper looking for zombies in "The Dead Next Door."Mon, 01 May 2023 - 46 - Cult Classics with Chris - Ep. 16 - James Merendino (SLC Punk!; Withcraft IV)

However, James had been making movies and working in the business for a few years prior to that.
