- 969 - Arrrrrrgggyle - Watford drop points late on - Plymouth 2-2 Watford
The fixture gods did not shine on Watford fans when a late November trip to Plymouth was announced, and got even worse with the move to the Friday evening. But the Hornets put in a great first half performance but couldn’t quite get it over the line after a very late goal from Andre Gray meant its was only 1 point a piece.
Jon, Jordi and Kieran gathered post match to discuss how much risk was taken, and where they the right sort of risks, how did the international break affect the performance, which area of the team are contributing the most and how bad do we feel after relinquishing the lead so late in the game?
Jon has a travel correction and Kieran give an update on Watford Women’s season.
We didn’t lose but my gosh does it feel like it so soon after the final whistle.

Sat, 19 Oct 2024 - 50min - 960 - From Blah to Baah - Watford 2-1 Middlesbrough
After a terrible away performance at Preston in the week, it felt - for 75 minutes at least - that Watford were going to finish with nothing. However, two goals from two substitutes saw the Hornets run out 2-1 winners for the second weekend in a row.
Tom Cleverley made six changes to the team that lost at Deepdale and Jon, DCW, Jason and Mike gathered outside the Hornet Shop and while the players, keen to make the most of the international break, piled into waiting cars, the boys discussed how the afternoon played out.
Plus in this week's Railway Children, pre match chat., the discussion focussed on who should be considered the ultimate Watford team to face Luton Town.
The Hornets sit 6th, three points off top spot.... that's certainly a better place than we thought we'd be in by this point of the season. Another home win. Another From the Rookery End.

Watford lose away for the second time this season, and let in an early goal AGAIN, but Jon, Jordi and Adam discuss the lose and if it was Watford's own doing or just a series of unfotunate moments.
Did the three changes and two early subs limit Tom Cleverley's ability to make changes to adjust the game substantially? And if there is an area to focus on and improve - where is it?
As well as discussing the game you will hear this weeks fan chat, this time with Paiul O'Brien, a life long Watford fan and Commerical Director of the club. Wed, 05 Jun 2024 - 5min - 945 - 40th Anniversary Special: Watford at Wembley 1984
This is another special retrospective episode of From the Rookery End.
In these podcasts we take an in depth look back at some of the most pivotal moment in Hornets history, having previously covered the 1997 thrashing of our friends up the M1, the breathless Play Off Semi Final victory at St Andrews in 1999 and of course, our tribute to THAT goal by friend of the podcast, Troy Deeney.
Well, they say you never forget your first time, so on this podcast we are going to make sure, by going back 40 years to the day (if you are listening on release day!) to look at Watford’s first ever appearance in the FA Cup Final.
Of course, the result didn’t exactly go to plan (we don’t think this is a spoiler!) but it was still a historic day, and one which is looked back upon fondly by generations of the Hornets faithful. In this podcast we try to encapsulate what it was like to be a Watford fan during that famous cup run, culminating in that sunny day at Wembley in May 1984.
This show ahs been brought to life by a wide range of contrinbutiors, without whom this simply wouldn’t have been possible, so a huge thanks to Olly and Geoff Wicken, Frances Lynn and Adam Cummings - the voice of Vicarage Road’s Radio Hornet during the 70’s and 80’s.
You’ll also hear from three familiar voices - men who were boys back in 1984 - Matt Rowsson, author Lionel Birnie and our very own Jason Bailey. Thanks to them all for their amazing contributions, which we’re certain you’ll enjoy. It’s 1984, and thi is From the Rookery End.

Sun, 19 Mar 2023 - 37min - 883 - Be Lucky. A Podcast Tribute to Oliver Phillips
Welcome to a very special edition of From the Rookery End.
In February, Watford Football Club lost one of the most important men in it’s history. Oli Phillips covered more than 2,000 Hornets fixtures in his role at the Watford Observer, a career that spanned more than 40 years. This podcast is a tribute to Oli; a bona fide Watford legend.
We hear from friends and colleagues of Oli, as well as two of the players that he’d regularly write about in such a memorable fashion; Tony Coton and John McClelland. As you’ll hear, Oli was extremely well respected, both by those that knew him well, and those that pored over his very word, devouring his weekly work in the Watford Observer every Friday.
Oliver Phillips will forever be a name synonymous with Watford Football Club. This is our small way of marking his quite extraordinary contribution to the club and the town.
Be lucky.
