What did Jesus mean when He told us to turn the other cheek? For many of us, our reaction to being wronged is to hit back and try to enact justice on our own terms. But Jesus calls us to something altogether new. When forced to go one mile, we go two.

We are in a real war, and if we don’t realize it, then we are losing. Once we learn to watch for it, we begin to see it. Once we see it, we can’t unsee it. Paul writes in Ephesians 6 everything we need to know to resist temptation when the enemy attacks.

A marriage cannot be happy or healthy without Christ at the center of it. In this message, Jonathan Pokluda teaches us that (1) the mindset of marriage must be sacrifice and submission, (2) the mission of marriage is sanctification through service, and (3) the mystery of marriage is that it showcases our savior.

Paul reminds us in today’s text the antidote to spiritually sleepwalking is to walk in love, walk in the light, and walk in wisdom.

To live a Christian life, we have to imitate Christ. One place where some struggle is with forgiveness of others who have committed a wrong against them. Rather than holding grudges, quiet judgment, and anger in our hearts, we are called to forgive in the same way that Jesus forgave us. God deeply cares about how we are able to forgive others and let go of our anger.

Who do you know that is clearly marked with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and gentleness? What makes you say that? Would someone think about you? 

Where have you been deployed in the body to use your gifts? If you haven’t deployed your gifts, ask your LG how they see God using you in the body.

Are you in a season where you are a weak part of the body? Share with your LG and let them pray for you during this difficult season. Take a step forward in growing your faith. Don’t just “go” to church, but “be” the church.

Jesus showed his wounds and Thomas was changed forever. Thomas believed Jesus was risen indeed. May we be encouraged to show our wounds and tell others about the risen Savior who changed our lives forever.

We were all dead in our sins before God. We couldn’t work our way or earn our way to Him. Yet, because of His never-ending love and mercy, He has made us alive in His Son Jesus. We need help even when we aren’t willing to receive it. Is it easy for you to receive help from the Holy Spirit or do you wrestle with pride?

Do you pause and listen to the Holy Spirit when you are in a meeting, in class, or with friends and respond in obedience to His leading? Share a time you were obedient and a time you failed.

Has it been a while since you stopped listening to the “ding” correcting you? Ask the Spirit to reveal truth to you and listen, so you can bear fruit.

The presence of Jesus will change us when we are aware that He is in our midst. Rather than moving on with our life, we want to connect intimately with Him. In this message we look at someone in Scripture who shows us what it looks like to Abide with Jesus.

When you spend time with Jesus abiding in Him, how does that make your heart feel?

God takes Christ and he puts Christ in us. We are a new creation in Christ. We are recruited by God to show His love to the world. When we abide in Christ, we are going to do things to show His love to the world that doesn’t make sense. You need to give up control. Lean into God and His plan for you. As you abide in Jesus, He is transforming you to love sacrificially with joy.

What would most people say Christians do? Pray, read the Bible, make disciples, give generously, forgive, love, serve, go to church, and share the gospel. In our new series, “ABIDE”, JP looks to John 15 to focus our thoughts on a true disciple is one who abides in Jesus and fruit is produced. We also learn when we are pruned, bring it to God and trust him to teach you to abide in Him and bear more fruit.

As we continue our series, “Till He Appears”, Grant shows us how the story of the sacrifice of Isaac ultimately predicted the coming of our Savior. Grant contrasts how the testing of Abraham’s faith and his willingness to sacrifice his only son, shows us how God has never failed His children. God sacrificed His only Son so we could be free.

Are you content with what you have been given or do you groan and grumble? Do you live a generous life looking for opportunities to share with someone in need? Nate looks to Exodus 16 to show us how much God loves us and wants to provide exactly what we need for our tomorrow. For God so loved us He provided His son, Jesus, for us. As we continue in our series, “Forged,” JP reminds us that Christians must lean closer to God in times of suffering because He is sanctifying us. When we know who we are before God, we can know how to live before man. As start our new series, Forged, Peter sets up his first book. He lets his readers know who they are in Christ and all the benefits found in Him.

When we find ourselves in desperation, darkness, and the light around us seems to be fading; what do we do? Where do we turn? David, in Psalm 143 understands what it's like to have the spirit within him "appalled" and overcome with fear and pain. In his desperation, he shows us the power of bringing our trials before an Almighty God, remembering His character of old, and obeying His commands despite a lack of peace. The book of Jonah ends in an odd fashion. Jonah has just seen an incredible revival take place, and yet he’s upset. Jonah’s entitlement of believing he deserved more from God than the Ninevites kept him from experiencing all that God had for him.

It’s Easter Sunday! Have you ever felt shame before? Felt dead in your sin? Easter is really about the sinful and shameful becoming royalty. Becoming sons and daughters of God. As we celebrate Easter and finish our series, I AM, JP teaches through John 11:21-37, teaching us what Jesus means when He said “I am the resurrection and the life” and how it applies to us every day.

Why are there two criminals seemingly ruining the moment of our Saviors sacrifice? It seems random. Out of place? Why not just Jesus there? Because we are that thief on the cross next to Jesus guilty of our sin… Jesus’ last moment before death was to show what the true Gospel is and how salvation works. There were two responses by two different thieves, we have the same choice in our own lives. To accept Jesus as Savior and we as sinner, or to deny and ridicule His name. We are that thief! The power of the cross is what makes this Friday Good!

Have you ever seen kids playing on a bounce house? It can be such a source of fun and joy! However, without the blower, it’s completely useless. It’s only useful and fun if it’s connected to that which gives it “life”. As we continue our series, I AM, JP teaches us what Jesus means when He said “I am the true vine” in John 15:1-8, and how Christians can only experience life when they are connected to Jesus.

Have you ever been somewhere when the lights went out and it suddenly became dark? Could you continue doing what you were doing before the lights went out? Oftentimes, we need light to do what we are trying to do. Darkness thwarts our abilities. One of Jesus’ seven “I AM” statements was “I am the light of the world.” What did that mean back then and what does it mean for us today? JP teaches through John 8 & 9 as we continue our “I AM” series and move toward Easter.

What’s the longest you’ve gone without food? What do you think is the longest you could go without food? This past Wednesday, we started the season of Lent, the 40-days leading up to Easter.

To embrace this season, we are starting a new sermon series called "I AM". To kick off our new series, JP teaches through John 6 where Jesus calls himself the bread of life, teaching us where true sustenance and life is found.

When this sermon was recorded on February 19, 2023, there was a gathering at Asbury University that had been going on for over a week. Many people were calling this a revival. What exactly is a revival? To help us better understand, JP interviews Dr. Steve Seamands, who was at Asbury during the 1970 Asbury Revival, as well the beginning of what was happening at Asbury at the time of this sermon.

Have you ever taken a trip and gotten lost? If so, how did you find your way back? There are two paths in life: the path of isolation and the path of community. As we continue our series, Fool Proof, JP teaches us that isolation, while easy, is extremely destructive, whereas community, while difficult, is where wisdom, health, and life can be found.

Since we live in a broken world, conflict with others is inevitable. The good news is Proverbs has given us direction on how to wisely do conflict in a way that honors God.

When it comes to love and marriage, where do you get your information and guidance? Music and movies have a lot to say about the topic, but what exactly does media and entertainment teach us? As we continue our series, Fool Proof, JP teaches through the topic of adultery and how to fool proof your love and marriage by teaching through Proverbs 5:15-23.

It’s Christmas Eve! Where does your attention go during the Christmas season? Is it more about Jesus’ birth or about all the gifts and things you have going on in life? As we finish our series, “It’s Complicated,” we examine the complications around Jesus’ birth and the complications for us today as we celebrate His birthday.

The holidays can be a complicated time where the urgent crowds out the important. This week we look to Ephesians to learn how we can choose our time, use our time, and not waste our time.
