Father-daughter duo, Mark and Ellie Herringshaw talk about the Biblical perspectives of divorce and remarriage and what the implications of that are in our lives today.
Rclaimed.com
A few verses on divorce:
Malachi 2:14-16 “For I hate divorce!” says the Lord, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.”
Matt 5:31-32 “It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’32 But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.”
Mark 10:9 “What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
1 Corinthians 7:10-11 “To the married I give this charge (not I but the Lord): the wife should not separate from her husband (but if she does, she should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband,) and the husband should not divorce his wife.”
Jeremiah 3:8 “… I had sent her away with a decree of divorce…”
Deuteronomy 24:1-4 “When a man takes a wife and marries her, if then she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, and she departs out of his house, and if she goes and becomes another man’s wife, and the latter man hates her and writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter man dies, who took her to be his wife, then her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after she has been defiled, for that is an abomination before the LORD. And you shall not bring sin upon the land that the LORD your God is giving you for an inheritance.
Hebrews 13:4 “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.Fri, 14 Sep 2018 - 147 - The Rclaimed Podcast – Episode 19 – Grandma Miller

A note from Lizzie:
"Somehow between recalling what was actually true of the condition of Eric’s heart and letting it come through my mouth, I got all the details mixed up for the podcast recording. Here are the actual details about Eric’s heart condition:
Eric was born with a condition known as Transposition of the Great Arteries. This means that the two major arteries that lead away from the heart were transposed or “switched.” This had to be corrected with a surgery called a Fontan Procedure, which he had at 3 years old. In this corrective surgery the two ventricles of the heart were allowed to combine to do what would normally be one ventricle’s job. Blood is not pumped directly by the heart to the lungs. Some would say the blood 'falls' into the lungs (gravity), but it's mostly the pressure in the veins that gets it there.”
Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (ESV)

In this latest episode of Hope Reclaimed, Betsy Morris brings her testimony of healing from cancer and divorce. Through intentionally cleaning out the "junk" in her life, both physically and emotionally, Betsy took steps towards healing. She is now cancer free and dedicated to see individuals step into hope and wholeness through health and healing.
Betsy Morris
Betsy Barnum Morris is a mother, social worker, writer, yoga teacher, and life coach. And she believes that social reformation begins with the individual. Betsy has spent the past 22 years working with herself and others to recognize the gifts that God planted within each of them. She encourages them to use life’s struggles as a tool for personal, familial, and community transformation.
Through Betsy's work at Children’s Protective Services and in foster care, she was moved to believe that healing begin in the home. Thus Betsy felt called to stay at home with her three children, now 22, 20, and 16 years old. She focused not only on fostering their individual development, but on identifying patterns within herself and her family that needed to change. Thrown into the process of transformation from the inside out by a hard marriage, melanoma, breast cancer, and a divorce, Betsy now writes about these experiences and the wisdom gained from them for over 10 years.
As a friend, yoga teacher and a Life Coach, Betsy has used the lessons to support others through their own transformation experiences. A native Texan, Betsy lives in San Antonio with her dog and youngest son, warmly welcoming her other two children whenever they come home from college.

In this new series, we’re going to be talking about those next steps… how do I live now after the divorce, the lay-off, the death, whatever it is. We’re answering the question, “Now What?” In part 1, I talk with my dad, Mark Herringshaw about how to find your Purpose, Vision, Mission, Values and Plan in a time of transition.
Purpose, Vision, Mission, Values and Plan
Sit down with a cup of coffee and some good instrumental worship music when you’ve carved out a few quiet hours. Start with a prayer of thanksgiving and thank God for what He’s done and then begin to ask these five questions:
"God, who am I?" This is your purpose.
"Why am I here?" This is your vision.
“What is my assignment right now?” This is your mission.
“How do I want to live?” These are your values
“When are we going to do this? Where? And with whom?” This is the plan.
Scripture References:

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

Episode Notes
2 Corinthians 6:7 // by truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left
Isaiah 61:10 // I will greatly rejoice in the LORD; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Luke 11:24-26 // 24 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ 25 When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. 26 Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.”
1 Timothy 4:12-13 // 12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.
Matthew 16:13-20 // 13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.
