We've been calling Ohio State fans soft for the past few years and we're not about to stop now.

Michigan football went out on the road and showcased all of its worst attributes we've seen thus far from the Wolverines this year. Yet another quarterback change after Alex Orji didn't have command of the offense. Then Jack Tuttle turned the ball over twice, leading to the 10 points that the maize and blue lost by. Michigan football beat Minnesota in a very similar fashion to how it beat USC, with a final score of 27-24, falling apart in the second half, and letting the other team get within a whisper of leaving The Big House with a victory. And many Michigan fans are very unhappy with the win, but we see a lot of bright spots -- and we're not just looking on the sunny side of the street. 

The offense needs some time to put things together, and it's really close. Will it get there? We can't say for sure, but we've seen a lot of signs, both in the execution and the playcalling. The defensive lapses in the second half notwithstanding, there are some positives to take away, but fans should adjust their expectations and take each week as it comes.

The O.G. strikes back as the media met with Michigan football defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. Despite Michigan football having unexpectedly beaten the former No. 11 team in the country, USC, there are many maize and blue faithful who are already losing faith, because new starting quarterback Alex Orji only passed for 32 yards on Saturday. Yet, that was by design! We explain why those who are inexplicably clamoring for Davis Warren to be reinstalled as the starter are wrong on the internet, and share more of what the coaches expect to do with Orji moving forward.

No one thought they could do it (except our friend Josh Pate...and Lee Corso). WE didn't think they could do it. But Michigan football welcomed the Trojans to the Big Ten, beating USC, 27-24, with just 32 passing yards but 290 rushing yards.

But why? It's because Sherrone Moore & Co. basically did everything we advocated for (save for some personnel choices) and deployed them strategically against USC. We were going to spend much of Monday's episode discussing what needs to happen while lamenting the unlikelihood of the staff making the necessary changes but Sherrone Moore bucked the trend by announcing on Monday afternoon that Alex Orji has been named the starting quarterback for Michigan football against USC.

On Wednesday, new Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore finally signed his executed contract but was that really a big deal considering he signed a memorandum of understanding back in the winter? No, but because it's Michigan, it became a big deal, because the narratives are all that matters, and the narratives must always paint the Wolverines as villainous, inept, or both. The eye test says Michigan football desperately needs more quarterback production and that's somewhat true statistically, but when it comes to execution, perhaps we're being much too hard on first-year starter Davis Warren.

We're still troubled by what we saw on the field against Texas, made all the worse by what we saw in Week 1 against Fresno State. During just about any preview of Michigan football vs. Texas, our show included, we all stated that the Wolverine defense would be elite, it was more of a question about the offense. About two days after we started talking to Connor Stalions, and about five days after he was identified as an NCAA person of interest, it became apparent (to us) that this was a political hit job -- not just on him but on Jim Harbaugh and the University of Michigan. Michigan football named four senior captains and two alternates on Thursday in advance of the 2024 season. While we don't want to be mere stenographers for Michigan football and what it says in fall camp, we can glean a lot from what the coaches and players do (and don't) say. 

On Sunday, defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan met with the media and may have upended some expectations at corner and safety based on what he said about the leaders at both positions. But that led to an interesting note from him about the defense being 'positionless.' We use that to look back at the evolution of the Michigan defense since Mike Macdonald took over, what having a 'positionless defense' means, how it may be deployed, and in the most basic terms, how that could be a huge boon for the Wolverines.

Then, we take a look at what Reese's Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy said about the defensive front on Monday morning and point out why what he's saying would spell incredible things for the D this season -- perhaps even more so than last year.

Joel Klatt had a segment on his show on Wednesday explaining why Michigan football may be the biggest threat to Oregon and Ohio State. Though many think the Michigan football defense will be very good and an overall top group, those in the national media and college football landscape seem to think there are a lot of others around the country and in the Big Ten that will be better. Well, the more we think about it, we don't think so.

From the elite front line, to an elite middle, to an extremely deep secondary (that is also probably elite), the Wolverines have playmakers at all three levels, and they have some attributes that only a few teams (like Georgia) have.

The theme at some of the most recent Michigan football press conferences has surrounded the offense and why perhaps those who think that the Wolverines will fall off a cliff in that area are greatly misinformed. 

After Monday morning's press conference, it sounds as if the offense continues to get the better of the defense at times all while the defense has the look of the No. 1 unit in the country (as it was last year). Between the offense as a whole and the quarterback battle, there's a lot to potentially like about that side of the ball, according to current Michigan players.

We hear from defensive tackle Kenneth Grant about the offense and the repercussions it has on his defense as well as how Semaj Morgan is rounding into becoming a more well-rounded receiver and why blocking has become one of his big focuses in the offseason. And then, we try to cut through the fall camp hype and discuss what it all means.
