This is a rebroadcast of the original Suspense! Radio Show. Suspense is a radio drama series broadcast on CBS Radio from 1940 through 1962. One of the premier drama programs of the Golden Age of Radio, was subtitled "radio's outstanding theater of thrills" and focused on suspense thriller-type scripts, usually featuring leading Hollywood actors of the era. Approximately 945 episodes were broadcast during its long run, and more than 900 still exist. Suspense went through several major phases, characterized by different hosts, sponsors, and director/producers. Formula plot devices were followed for all but a handful of episodes: the protagonist was usually a normal person suddenly dropped into a threatening or bizarre situation; solutions were "withheld until the last possible second"; and evildoers were usually punished in the end. In its early years, the program made only occasional forays into science fiction and fantasy. Notable exceptions include adaptations of Curt Siodmak's Donovan's Brain and H. P. Lovecraft's "The Dunwich Horror", but by the late 1950s, such material was regularly featured. - via Wikipedia

A case that Shadow had done the groundwork for, the Conway case! Dutch was convinced that Shadow’s husband had killed his first wife but Shadow was sure that he was clean and decent.

Mrs Sheila Morrison is in desperate trouble and goes to see a lawyer named Mr Baloo. Her husband is the prominent surgeon Paul Morrison from Boston. Mrs Morrison is English and met he husband in London in 1939. He was different then deeply concerned and caring but the war changed him. They were happy for the first years of their marriage then Mrs Morrison wanted to adopt a child but Paul was against it. When Paul went back to America to join the corps service Sheila went to stay with her mother in the country. While on the train she met a woman with a newborn baby whose husband had been killed the previous week. Sheila knew it was wrong but when the opportunity presented itself she stole the baby and tried to pass him off as hers and Paul’s.

With seventeen dollars in his pocket he tried to get a job but no one would employ him. For some unknown reason he decides to spend $14 on a gun and when he leaves the shop he stops to light a cigarette a notices a big chauffeur driven car pull up. He is shocked when a man gets out of the car and Ken recognises him as Lee Burke the man he had killed seven years ago.

Helen was supposed to go with him and wait on tables or something but at the last minute she decided to stay in LA figuring her boyfriend Steve would be home on a furlough. Jimmy should have known better, his sister was such a kid but he let her stay there alone. That was the beginning of the whole thing that was when she met Phil Armstrong. If Jimmy hadn’t gone away that summer Phil Armstrong would still be alive… + Jimmy and Helen had never been apart since their folks died until the summer that he got a job at a mountain resort. Helen was supposed to go with him and wait on tables or something and it was to be their vacation but at the last minute Helen decided to stay behind as she figured her boyfriend Steve was going to return on furlough. The script was subsequently produced on Suspense on April 26, 1951. An excellent tale of murder and suspense that keeps you on the edge of your chair for the duration. The plot is quite simple and pretty much standard radio show thriller format, but the acting and sub-plot keep you interested as the story unfolds. The story starts off with a wife murdering her husband. This is not a spur of the moment domestic killing, but a thoroughly well plotted, premeditated, cold-blooded killing. The wife things she has been very clever and believes she has got away with it, but her husband's death comes back to haunt her in a very peculiar way.

Sam Bentley and Dick Walsh are partners with Arthur Lockwood in business but Lockwood cannot stand the other two and wishes they were both dead. When he goes to the office that night to check something out he discovers that Sam in his office chair shot dead his wrist watch had stopped at five after eight. He also discovers a letter on his desk addressed to Richard Walsh proving that his partners had planned to double cross him. He looked at the time on the broken wristwatch. An hour later he would be home in his bed knowing that Dick Walsh too was going to die.

Ernest Bowers is badly injured in a car accident, but there is a problem. Earnest is a cataleptic. Catalepsy is a disease of the nerves and mind. The physical conditions when a cataleptic has a spell closely resemble death and include the primary stages of rigor mortis. Ernest carries a special medallion informing whoever reads it that he is a cataleptic and although, in the event of an accident, he may appear dead he is isn't and must not be embalmed. He also carries a letter giving instructions as to what must happen. Unfortunately, somebody steals the jacket containing the letter and the medallion as Ernest lays injured. Will Ernest wake up in time or will he be embalmed alive?

Donovan’s Brain, the famous novel by Curt Siodmak was deemed so unusual by the producers of Suspense that it was made in two 30-minute parts. Orson Welles stars as Dr Patrick Cory who has been experimenting on keeping alive the brain of a dead monkey. When a plane crashed nearby and knowing they’d be unable to save its passenger, ruthless millionaire William Donovan, Dr Cory saw this as an opportunity to keep alive a human brain. Through telepathy he succeeded in communicating with Donovan’s brain but before long it took over his whole mind and began to make him do things that he didn’t know about. When his wife tried to help him Donovan’s Brain in Dr Cory’s mind had her committed to a sanitarium. When Dr Cory and his son David tried to kill the brain the brain paralyzed them against doing this and now had control over David. Dr Cory’s thoughts were less and less his own and his mind was filled with evil fantasy. Finally Dr Cory realizes a way to set him free from Donovan’s aspirations to dominate the world but David fears that the brain also knows and his plan would fail. Dr Cory tells David “it is a chance they will have to take”. Orson Welles’ performance of Dr Cory and the transition between Dr Cory and Dr Cory possessed by Donovan’s brain is magnificent.

Dr Cory’s thoughts were less and less his own and his mind was filled with evil fantasy. Finally Dr Cory realizes a way to set him free from Donovan’s aspirations to dominate the world but David fears that the brain also knows and his plan would fail. Dr Cory tells David “it is a chance they will have to take”. Orson Welles’ performance of Dr Cory and the transition between Dr Cory and Dr Cory possessed by Donovan’s brain is magnificent.

Tasker was an ex-con sentenced to ten years. While in prison he began writing stories and submitted one to a magazine. Mr Craiger happened to read it and contacted Tasker and later won him parole. Once free Craiger offered Robert a job, as he needed a clerk in his office. Craiger advised him not to hold any grudges but Tasker told him there was just one man he hated, Arthur Hines. Craiger told him that Hines was just the DA doing his job and had nothing against Tasker. And then he told him that Arthur Hines was his new partner and Tasker would be working along side him…

Under Thomas Jefferson) stepped up and slapped Hamilton in the face and then when Harry looked at Hamilton he was his brother, the one who was killed by a drunk in the cemetery. When in one of his dreams Burr killed Hamilton in a duel Harry thought that would also be the end of his dreams but Aaron Burr still keeps coming in to his dreams.

Ronald Adams is a young man embarking on a cross-country drive from New York to California. Soon after leaving his mother's home in Brooklyn, he sees a hitch-hiker standing in the rain on the Brooklyn Bridge apparently trying to get a lift. The man steps onto the roadway and Adams has to swerve to avoid him, but the incident slips his mind until about an hour later, when Adams is startled to see the same man standing along the Pulaski Skyway. He sees the same hitch-hiker several more times over the ensuing days, and though the man looks ordinary and non-threatening, Adams cannot understand how he keeps getting ahead along his route and is increasingly alarmed by his repeated appearances.
