I live in the UK, and my parents live in Japan. They occasionally send me packages from Japan. The other day, a package arrived. It usually takes about 10 days for a package to arrive from Japan. Inside the box, there were various things. First, there was instant miso soup and a knitted hat made by my mother. My mother enjoys knitting, and the hat is very cute. Then, there were lots of books. I had ordered books from Amazon Japan, and my parents packed them into the box. Lastly, there was a planner for next year. The planner is for writing down my thoughts and plans. It's from a Japanese brand called "Hobonichi Techo." This year’s design features sushi. It's very unique and cute, and I really like it. That’s all for today, see you next time!

This year, I did a Japanese reading challenge. Among the participants, I sent cards as a reward to those who were able to finish reading a Japanese novel. There were a total of 5 cards. One went to Georgia, three to the U.S., and the last one to Canada.
To be honest, it had been a while since I last sent a letter. It had also been a long time since I wrote a postcard in Japanese. And it had been a while since I last went to the post office too. The shipping cost was a bit high, but I was excited and nervous as I sent the cards, wondering if they would reach my students safely.
It took some time for the cards to arrive. The first one reached my student in Canada. Two weeks later, that student contacted me right away, saying, "The card has arrived!" However, even though it has been a month, there are still places where the cards haven't arrived. I'm a bit worried. Will they arrive safely?

I went to a town called Chester, which is about an hour's drive from Liverpool. Chester is a very beautiful town. There are old buildings and a castle. Chester Cathedral is especially famous. It’s a large church, and the courtyard inside is very beautiful, quiet, and a peaceful place. There’s also a fountain, and it’s very relaxing.
Chester also has ruins from ancient Roman times. There are remains of a bathhouse built by the ancient Romans. As I walked through the town, I felt a sense of its long history. There are also city walls, and you can take a walk around them. Many tourists visit and enjoy the town.
Chester is a very charming town, with a medieval atmosphere still present. It’s perfect for a day trip. You can take a walk along the riverside and enjoy a mini cruise. I really liked Chester. If you come to England, I highly recommend visiting Chester!

Dear Noriko-sensei,
Hello! How are you? Thanks to you, I have safely arrived in Japan, and since my new life has begun, I decided to write you an email. Is it already autumn in England? It's still hot in Okayama in September, and it's tough.
Well, I’ve started living on my own in Okayama. My apartment is small, but it’s very clean and comfortable. It’s near Okayama Castle, and I can get to Kōraku-en Garden in about 10 minutes by bike.
School has also started, and the other day, I had my first class. I was really nervous, but Tanaka-sensei, my colleague, has been helping me. I’ll be teaching a lesson about British culture soon. I’m thinking of talking about fish and chips...
There’s still almost nothing in my apartment, but after I get my first paycheck next month, I plan to buy a table and chairs. I’m excited because I feel like I’m gradually creating my own space.
Thanks to you, I think I’m doing okay with Japanese conversation so far. But my colleagues speak fast, so sometimes I can’t catch what they’re saying. Please don’t worry, though. I’m managing somehow. I’ll keep doing my best, and I’d be happy if you could give me more advice in the future.
I’ll contact you again. Take care.
Sincerely, Tim

Finally, the first day as an ALT arrived. Tim was a bit nervous, but as soon as he entered the classroom, the students energetically greeted him with, "Hello!" Hearing that, Tim smiled and felt a little more relaxed.
In class, he taught some simple English phrases and tried doing role-plays. There were some enthusiastic students, but there were also a few who seemed bored. Tanaka-sensei, the English teacher and his colleague, said, "For your first time, you did really well. Next, could you prepare a class where you read about and talk about British culture?" Tim thought he would do his best to prepare for the next class.
As he walked down the hallway, many students spoke to Tim in Japanese. Thanks to his lessons with Noriko, he could understand most of the Japanese. He felt confident about having conversations too. However, since Tim is an English teacher, he decided to speak to the students in English as much as possible.
And so, Tim's new life in Japan began. He hopes to continue enjoying his experiences in Japan. He also wants to travel around the country a lot and learn even more about Japan.

In Okayama, Tim started living alone for the first time. His new apartment was small, but it was very clean and comfortable. The apartment was near Okayama Castle, and he could reach the famous Korakuen Garden in about 10 minutes by bike. It was also close to the Asahi River. He heard that in spring, many cherry blossoms bloom beautifully, and he was looking forward to seeing them.
School hadn’t started yet. While going to the nearby supermarket and taking walks in the park, Tim gradually got used to the city. Since he wanted to cook for himself, he also bought a pot, a frying pan, and other kitchen essentials. Japanese supermarkets are completely different from those in the UK. He enjoyed looking at the various foods and products.
There was still almost nothing in his apartment. Next month, after he gets his first paycheck, he plans to buy a table and chairs.

Tim arrived in Japan. When he stepped off the plane, he felt a little nervous, but breathing in the Japanese air gave him energy. Everything was new, and he couldn’t stop feeling excited. With his suitcase in hand, he took a train to Shinagawa Station in Tokyo. From there, he transferred to the Shinkansen and headed toward Okayama, enjoying the Japanese scenery along the way.
When he arrived in Okayama, a new life was waiting for him. Tim was about to start teaching English as an ALT in Okayama City. He first went straight to the Okayama Prefectural Office to meet with the person who would be helping him. The city was quiet, and many people were riding bicycles. "Ah, I've really come to Japan," Tim thought to himself, feeling it deeply. He really felt excited.

Tim lives in Manchester and works as a math teacher. He loves Japan and has been studying Japanese on his own for the past five years. Over the last two years, he discovered Noriko’s podcast and listened to it frequently to continue improving his Japanese. Noriko’s way of speaking was easy to understand and very helpful. This past year, he also took private lessons with Noriko to practice conversation.
Tim’s dream is to teach English in Japan as an ALT. Recently, he had an interview for the position and successfully passed. He was thrilled and excited for his new adventure to begin. Finally, the day to depart for Japan in August arrived. During his last lesson with Noriko, Tim said, "This is the end, isn't it?" But Noriko smiled and said, "It's a new beginning. Good luck!

This is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. In this podcast, I speak slowly. I have a website called "Japanese with Noriko." Please check it out if you have the chance. Now, let me share my story with you today. In July, I went to Sweden and Denmark. Please listen.
At the end of July, I went to Lund in Sweden. Lund is located in the southern part of Sweden. I have relatives who live in Lund. First, I flew to Copenhagen Airport in Denmark, and from there, I took a train. It takes about an hour by train from Copenhagen to Lund.
The purpose of this trip was to visit family. My in-laws live in Lund, Sweden, and Copenhagen, Denmark. This time, I went to visit them.
Lund, Sweden is famous for its university. It’s a student town. However, since I went in the summer, there were no students around. It was very quiet.
Sweden is known for its delicious sweet pastries. The cinnamon rolls are particularly tasty. I went to a famous bakery in Lund and bought freshly baked cinnamon rolls. I also took a walk in a park in Lund with my niece. There were many apple trees.
Next time, I plan to visit Lund during Christmas.

Hello everyone. This is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. In this podcast, I speak slowly. Please also listen to my other podcast, Japanese with Noriko, where I speak faster. Well, today I will tell you my story. My in-laws came to Liverpool. So, please listen.
I am married. My husband is Peruvian. In July, my in-laws came to Liverpool from Peru. We spent about ten days together. My father-in-law and mother-in-law do not speak much English. I do not speak much Spanish. So, it was a bit difficult. I studied Spanish long ago, but I haven’t studied it at all recently. However, I tried to speak a lot in Spanish. I remembered some simple words. My mother-in-law is good at cooking. She made delicious Peruvian food every day. My father-in-law likes the Beatles. So, he was very happy to visit famous Beatles-related places in Liverpool. When they came to Liverpool from Peru, the weather was cold. They wore sweaters. I wore a short-sleeved T-shirt. It’s interesting, isn’t it? Finally, my father-in-law likes whiskey. I also like whiskey. So, we went to a delicious whiskey bar in Liverpool. We tasted Scotch whiskey. That’s all for today.

Hello everyone. This is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. In this podcast, I speak slowly. Please also listen to my other podcast, Japanese with Noriko, where I speak faster. Now, today is another story from me. It's about Liverpool. Please listen.
I live in Liverpool, England. In November 2024, I moved to Liverpool from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Liverpool is famous for The Beatles. Before The Beatles became famous, they played at a live music venue in Liverpool. That place is called The Cavern Club. Last Friday, I watched a Beatles tribute band live at The Cavern Club.
The tickets for the live show were £20 per person. The live show lasted about three hours. People who looked like the members of The Beatles played many of their songs. Their costumes were also like The Beatles, and it was a very enjoyable show.
Most of the audience was elderly. Everyone listened to famous Beatles songs and danced and sang along. I also stood up and danced during "Twist and Shout." The last song was "Hey Jude." At that time, everyone in the audience stood up and sang together loudly.
If you come to Liverpool, please visit this live house. It's an interesting place where you can feel the atmosphere of that time.

I went to London in June. It was a 3-day trip with 2 nights. The purpose of this trip was to attend a concert. It was a concert of the Korean singer IU. I am studying Korean. I love IU's songs. IU is a female singer and also an actress. She appears in famous dramas and movies.
The concert was on Friday night at Wembley Arena in the suburbs of London. It was sold out. The concert lasted from 6:30 PM for 3 hours. It was very long and tiring, but it was really enjoyable. It felt like a dream. I was able to go to the concert I had always wanted to attend.
Do you go to concerts? Do you have a favorite artist?
Thanks to this concert, my motivation to study Korean has increased. I want to study more and sing IU's songs in Korean. Do you listen to Japanese songs? I am part of the community Japanese Together. I made a playlist of Japanese songs recommended by the community members. I will share the link, so please listen to it.

I like going to museums. There is the Tate Modern Museum in London. I love this museum. The special exhibitions at this museum are always amazing. I saw a special exhibition of Matisse before. It was really wonderful.
The Tate Modern Museum is free, but you need to pay to see the special exhibitions. The special exhibitions are expensive, but they are a very good experience.
This time, I saw a special exhibition about Expressionists. I don't know much about paintings, but when I go to the museum, I find a painting I like and buy its postcard.
The Tate Modern Museum is along the Thames River in London. I recommend walking along the Thames River. You can see many landmarks in London. Do you go to museums? If you have any recommended museums or favorite paintings, please tell me.

I live in Liverpool, England. I went to London from Liverpool in June. It took 2 hours and 40 minutes by train. I love London and often go there. This time, it was my first time in London in a year. London has many delicious restaurants and cafes. There are also many museums and art galleries. There are various landmarks, and just walking around is fun.
This time in London, I went to some interesting restaurants. One was a Japanese udon restaurant called "Marugame Udon." In Japan, udon is cheap, but the Marugame Udon in London was stylish and surprising. The udon was also much more expensive than in Japan.
Another place was a Peruvian restaurant. In London, you can eat food from many different countries. At the restaurant, you can hear Spanish. The menu has many Peruvian dishes, and the taste is delicious. So, I always go there. Oh, I forgot to mention, my husband is Peruvian. He also likes the taste of this restaurant.
Have you ever been to London? Do you want to go?

"Italian café culture is quite different from that in the UK. I visited local cafés in Milan and Bologna.
In the UK, it is common to sit down and drink a latte or an Americano. However, Italian cafés have counters where many people stand to drink espresso or caffè lungo. Everyone stands at the counter, drinks their coffee there, and leaves right away. Many people stand and drink in Italian cafes in the morning.
In Italian cafés, it is normal to stand and quickly drink your coffee. Not only that, but there are many cafés and restaurants with terrace seating, meaning there are plenty of seats outside in front of the shop. Italy has better weather than Liverpool, where I live in the UK. Therefore, there are many terrace seats. During my travels in Italy, I often saw cafés open early in the morning. However, in the UK, it is rare to find a café open at 7 AM.
Additionally, many people in Italy eat sweet Danish pastries or cream-filled croissants in the morning. It's a sweet breakfast. On the other hand, the famous breakfast in the UK is the English breakfast, which is full of sausages and bacon and is not sweet at all. English breakfast is a fattening breakfast. This difference is very interesting. Personally, I prefer the Italian-style breakfast."

"Bologna is about an hour away from Milan by train. The trains are high-speed, similar to Japan's Shinkansen. If you book a special seat, you can receive water and snacks on the train. Enjoying the scenery outside the window while having snacks made the journey to Bologna feel very short.
In Bologna, we stayed at an Airbnb. This city is known as the 'Gastronomic Capital' of Italy. Bologna is the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, which is renowned for its rich variety of food ingredients.
There are many delicious foods such as mortadella (Bologna sausage), Parmigiano-Reggiano, and Modena balsamic vinegar. Additionally, egg pasta is used in dishes like tortellini and lasagna.
Although we stayed for only two nights, we enjoyed delicious food from morning till night every day. The most delicious item was, of course, the dessert tiramisu. It was creamy and very tasty. The tiramisu you can buy in British supermarkets is too sweet, but the tiramisu we had in Bologna was not overly sweet.
The gastronomic journey in Bologna was truly a wonderful experience. I definitely want to go again!"

"I went to Milan and Bologna in Italy for a 6-day, 5-night trip. In Milan, I had lunch at a restaurant with members of the community Japanese Together.
This restaurant is very famous for its handmade fresh pasta. Fresh pasta is different from dried pasta. It has a chewy texture and is delicious. The term 'fresh' does not mean that it can be eaten raw. It means it is 'fresh' in the sense that it is soft and has not been dried yet. The boiling time is also shorter than that of dried pasta.
The fresh pasta I had at this restaurant was truly different from any pasta I have ever had before; it was very delicious. I love noodle dishes, and I also came to love this fresh pasta.
This was my second time visiting Milan. I stayed at a hotel near Central Station. I also went to Bologna, which is about an hour by train from Central Station. It was a very comfortable trip on the high-speed train.
I will talk about Bologna in the next episode."

Last month, I caught a cold. The weather in the UK is unpredictable. It keeps getting warm and cold, which is why I caught a cold.
At first, I had a headache. My head was throbbing. Then, I had a sore throat. My throat was burning. So, I took some cold medicine. I drank tea with lemon and honey. I drank a lot of tea and rested. Finally, I had a runny nose. My nose was running a lot. I used a lot of tissues, and because of that, the area under my nose turned red.
Colds are tough. I took time off work and rested, but it didn’t get better quickly. It took about a week. I finally got better.
When you catch a cold, do you take time off work? Do you take cold medicine? Do you go to the hospital? I didn’t go to the hospital. I took cold medicine that I bought at the drugstore.
Everyone, be careful not to catch a cold. If you catch a cold, drink plenty of tea.

Hello everyone, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Today, our story features Yuka, a 26-year-old office worker. Please listen.
Yuka is 26 years old. She works at a company every day. She is an office worker. She is busy every day. She gets up early every morning and takes the train to work.
One day, Yuka felt sluggish and had a slight sore throat in the morning. She thought, "I might have caught a cold." But she decided to go to work anyway.
When she arrived at work, her colleague Satoko looked at her and said, "Yuka, you don't look well. Are you okay?"
"Hmm, I think I might have caught a cold. My throat hurts," Yuka replied.
Satoko said with concern, "In that case, you should go home early today. Your health is the most important thing."
Yuka said, "Thank you. But I have a lot of work, so I have to do my best today."
By early afternoon, Yuka's condition worsened. She seemed to have developed a fever and her head felt fuzzy. Yuka decided to leave work early after all. She told her boss, "I'm sorry, I'm not feeling well today, so I'd like to go home early." Her boss kindly said, "I understand. Take care."
When she got home, Yuka took some medicine right away. Then she drank plenty of water and slept soundly.
Everyone, please take care of yourselves and watch out for colds. When you have a cold, the best thing to do is to rest well.

Hello everyone, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Today, please listen to my story. In this podcast, I speak slowly. Please also follow my Instagram at norijpteacher. Today, I’ll talk about a cafe in Liverpool. Please listen.
I often go to cafes to enjoy delicious coffee. At the cafe, I either read books or study Korean. There are several cafes in Liverpool that are my favorites. The cafe near my house is filled with my favorite colors, green and yellow. There are many houseplants placed around this cafe. The furniture is also mostly green. And the coffee cups are a lovely yellow. Just seeing this yellow makes me feel joyful. And drinking coffee from this cup puts me in a happy mood.
I used to live in Belfast, Northern Ireland. There is also a favorite cafe of mine in Belfast. The coffee cups there are a dark green. This dark green is also a very lovely color.
At home, I use ordinary coffee cups that I bought cheaply at the supermarket. The cups I often use at home are red. Red is also a color I like.
What color are the coffee cups you use often? Do they have designs or are they plain? I prefer plain coffee cups. I like them better without various designs or prints.
Are the coffee cups you use large or small? I am not very fond of mugs. They are too big, and it's difficult for me to finish drinking everything. I can't drink it all. The drink gets cold.
Please show me a photo of your favorite cup. See you again.

Hello everyone, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Today's theme is again 'Colors.' I like green and yellow. Today's protagonist is Yuta-kun. A lot of 'colors' will appear in the story. Let’s see how many you can hear. Let's take on the challenge.
Yuta-kun is an elementary school student. The long holiday of Golden Week in May has arrived. Yuta-kun and his family came to camp at a campground near the sea. It’s a two-day, one-night camping trip.
It's a 10-minute walk from the campground to the beach. Dad is drinking beer and reading a book. Mom is preparing lunch. Yuta-kun and the family’s pet dog, Kuro, decided to go to the beach. Kuro is a black dog, hence his name 'Kuro.'
Today, the weather is exceptionally nice, and it is sunny. The sea is blue, and the waves are sparkling. There are white birds flying in the sky, which is also blue, and there are no clouds. 'Kuro, it really feels great, doesn’t it? Let’s go near the waves,' said Yuta-kun.
It feels good to walk on the white sandy beach. Kuro is also happy, running around. Kuro likes playing with a ball. He is playing with a red ball. 'The sea is so big. So blue,' Yuta-kun thought, listening to the sound of the waves.
When they returned to the tent from the sea, lunch was ready. It was a barbecue. They grilled a lot of meat and ate.
When they returned home from camping, Yuta-kun started painting with blue paint. While painting pictures of the sea and the sky, he remembered the fun times they had camping.

Hello everyone, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Please listen to my story again today. In this podcast, I speak slowly. Please also follow my Instagram at norijpteacher. What is your favorite color? Let's talk about colors today.
I have many favorite colors. I especially like green and yellow. Seeing dark green calms my mind. I don’t do much gardening and don’t grow plants, but I like seeing the greenery in nature. In my previous living room, there was a large dark green sofa. When I moved, I donated that sofa to a charity shop. It’s no longer with me, but I loved that sofa.
Yellow has an energetic image. Seeing yellow also makes me feel energized and cheerful. I also like Japan’s cherry blossom pink, a gentle pale pink color. Seeing this pink reminds me of spring in Japan. I used to dislike red, but now it is a color I like. I even have a red sweater. I used to have a red smartphone too. It’s a flashy color, but seeing red motivates me.
My least favorite color is purple. I think light purple is beautiful, but I don’t like dark purple. I wear trousers every day. My jeans are a light blue, and I often wear black trousers. However, I choose colorful tops. For example, I have a green sweater, a yellow cardigan, and a cute pink sweat hoodie. What colors do you like?

I have relatives living in Sweden. They are my sister-in-law's family. My sister-in-law is Peruvian. Her husband is Swedish too, and they have two daughters, my nieces. The four of them came to visit us in Liverpool. They live in Malmö, Sweden, and the nearest airport to Malmö is Copenhagen Airport in Denmark. They flew from Copenhagen to Manchester Airport, and then they came to Liverpool from Manchester.
We spent about four days together. I showed them around Liverpool, going to cafes and restaurants. My nieces are very cute and lively. They speak Swedish with their father and Spanish with their mother. They speak English with me. It's a really interesting international family. And, I bought them cute summer dresses. This summer, we plan to visit them in Sweden.

"Hello everyone, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Please listen to my story today as well. In this podcast, I speak slowly. There are also podcasts with a faster pace. Please try listening to my other podcast, Japanese with Noriko. Today, I want to talk about pizza. Do you all like pizza?
I don't eat pizza very often. I don't dislike it, but I prefer noodle dishes over pizza, so I usually eat noodles more than pizza. However, recently, I ate pizza after a long time.
I went to a pizzeria in Liverpool, which is said to be the most popular in the city. The pizza there is in the style of Naples, Italy. The restaurant has a large oven specifically for baking pizza. It's a popular place and is always busy, with lines of people waiting.
We went there on a Thursday night. We hadn't made a reservation, so we had to wait a bit. Even though it was a weekday evening, it was surprisingly crowded. There were many options on the menu, and I had a hard time deciding which toppings to choose. In the end, I chose a pizza with tomato sauce and anchovies. I like the slightly salty anchovies. My husband ordered a pizza without tomato sauce. It had potatoes, ham, and pineapple. It was a bit of a strange pizza.
What kind of toppings do you like? Ham, cheese, olives, mushrooms... there are various toppings available. The pizza at this restaurant was really delicious, so I want to go there again."

"Hello everyone, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Please listen to my story today again. In this podcast, I speak slowly, but there are also podcasts with a faster pace. Try listening to my other podcast, Japanese with Noriko. Now, today's topic is about ramen. Do you all like ramen?
What is your favorite Japanese food? Curry rice? Sushi? Donburi? Or perhaps, ramen? Ramen is popular abroad as well. There is even a Korean-style ramen restaurant in Liverpool, England, where I live. The soup there is a bit spicy, and it's quite delicious.
Recently, I traveled from Liverpool to Manchester by train. Manchester is the second-largest city in England, of course, after London.
In Manchester, there is a branch of the Japanese ramen chain Shoryu. I had lunch there. I ate miso tonkotsu ramen, and my husband had tonkotsu ramen. It tasted like the nostalgic Japanese tonkotsu ramen and was very delicious. However, there was one disappointing thing. The price of the ramen was very high.
I think the same ramen would cost less than half in Japan. Currently, the cost of living in the UK has increased, and eating out at restaurants is really expensive. We ordered ramen, fried chicken, and beer, and I was surprised at the high cost. In Japan, ramen is considered fast food, so it's inexpensive, quick, and easy to eat. But it's different in the UK.
Sometimes, I also eat instant noodles, but only occasionally because they are not very healthy. When I feel like it, I go to an Asian supermarket and buy Korean instant noodles.
Which type of ramen do you like? Tonkotsu, shoyu, miso, shio, or vegan ramen? My recent favorite is miso ramen. That's all for today."

Hello everyone, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Please listen to my story again today. In this podcast, I speak slowly. Now, March 17th is St. Patrick's Day. So, please listen.
March 17th is St. Patrick's Day. I used to live in Belfast, Northern Ireland. In Northern Ireland, St. Patrick's Day is a festive day and a holiday. There are parades. Everyone gathers and has lively parties. It's a busy day for Irish pubs. Now, I live in Liverpool, England. This year, St. Patrick's Day was on a Sunday. I had lunch at a pub with my husband. At that time, I saw many people wearing lots of green. Later, as we walked around the city, we saw many people wearing green, celebrating St. Patrick's Day in the same way.
Honestly, St. Patrick's Day is a day when everyone drinks alcohol, parties, and it gets a bit noisy. But, it's a very interesting day.

Hello everyone, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Please listen to my story again today. I will speak slowly. Spring has finally arrived in the UK. Do you all like spring? Now, please listen.
I go for a walk every day. When I don't have much time, I walk for only 30 minutes, but when I have more time, I walk for about an hour. I wear headphones and listen to music or podcasts while walking. There are no parks in my neighborhood, so I cannot walk in a park. However, I walk around the town. I try to go for a walk even on rainy days.
The other day, while I was walking, I found a little bit of spring. It was a different walking route than usual, and by chance, I found a cherry blossom tree. It was slightly different from the cherry blossoms in Japan, but there were cute pink cherry blossoms blooming. I decided to stop under the tree and look at the cherry blossoms. I love cherry blossoms. I felt nostalgic for spring in Japan... I thought about how I want to do Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) in Japan. Cherry blossoms in Japan are truly beautiful. Japanese people picnic under cherry blossom trees. They do Hanami.
I love spring, but there's a problem. I have hay fever. Because of hay fever, my eyes itch, and I get a runny nose, which is tough. But still, I love spring. That's all for today. See you again.

Hello everyone, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Please listen to my story again today. I will speak slowly. Please check out our main podcast, Japanese with Noriko, which is for intermediate and above levels. Today, I'm going to talk about an anniversary. Recently, it was our wedding anniversary. We celebrated it. So, please listen.
I am married. Our wedding anniversary is in February. It has been 17 years since we got married. We celebrated at a restaurant. We had delicious steak. I love steak.
Every year, on our wedding anniversary, we make it a point to go to a restaurant. We love eating delicious food, so we often eat out. Eating delicious steak on our anniversary made us feel happy. We also had a delicious dessert. After the restaurant, we went to a stylish cocktail bar. There, we drank delicious cocktails. I had a brandy cocktail.
I am full of gratitude towards my husband. I feel, 'Thank you always. Please continue to be with me. Let's keep working hard together.' My husband understands me well. He always helps me. He also supports me with my work. So, I want to support my husband in the same way.
That's all for today. See you again.

"Hello everyone, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Please listen to my story, Noriko's story, today as well. Today, it's another story about sweets. Matcha ice cream and black sesame ice cream. I will talk about Japanese ice cream. Please listen.
I live in Liverpool, England. In Liverpool, there is a Japanese-style matcha cafe called 'TSUJIRI.' TSUJIRI is a famous Japanese tea brand. And at this matcha cafe, you can enjoy Japanese-style desserts. I have been to this cafe twice already. Because you can eat really delicious desserts there, I definitely plan to go again.
The first time I went, I ate a matcha Basque cheesecake. It's a rich and moist cheesecake, and of course, it's green in color. A green cheesecake. It was very delicious. The second time I went, I had a matcha parfait. The parfait is in three layers. The bottom layer is red bean paste. On top of that is black sesame ice cream. And the top layer is matcha ice cream. My husband prefers the black sesame ice cream. I prefer the matcha ice cream. Which one do you like?
Of course, I also drank a matcha drink. The recommendation is matcha yuzu Tea. The bitterness of the matcha and the sweetness of the yuzu jam come together to make a really delicious drink. Unfortunately, the desserts and drinks at this cafe are really expensive. Because it's expensive, I definitely want to go again, but I don't think I can go all the time.
Going to this cafe really made me miss Japanese food."

"Hello everyone, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Today, please listen to my story, Noriko's story, again. Do you know the famous Korean snack 'Choco Pie'? Then, please listen.
I am studying Korean. The other day, a small package arrived from Korea. My Korean teacher sent me some Korean snacks. It was Choco Pie. Choco Pie is a snack from Lotte, a famous confectionery company. You can buy it in Japan too. Choco Pie is round. It has marshmallow in between moist cakes. And, the cake is coated with chocolate. In other words, the outermost layer is chocolate, followed by a cake-like dough, and marshmallow in the middle. Of course, it's sweet.
Now, the Choco Pie I received was eaten immediately. I ate it right away with coffee. One was not enough; I wanted to eat more and more.
I like sweet things. I try not to eat too much, but still, I can't stop. I usually eat dark chocolate. When I go to a cafe on weekends, I often eat pancakes. Even when I eat out at a restaurant, I always order dessert. Do you like sweets? What kind of sweets do you like?"

If you want to listen to Japanese at a faster speed and take on more of a challenge, please check out my main podcast, the Japanese with Noriko podcast. So, do you all like manga? Do you read manga? Then, please listen.
There is a library near my house, the Central Library in Liverpool. This library is a really large building, spacious and user-friendly on the inside. It also has a lot of Japanese manga. But, the manga there are in English versions.
The other day, I found the manga 'Demon Slayer' and 'Spy × Family' at the library, which have been popular recently. I was really happy because I had always wanted to read them. Fortunately, there were volumes one to three of 'Spy × Family.' I immediately borrowed all three volumes. 'Demon Slayer' didn't have the first volume, but since I had watched the anime, I am already familiar with the story, so borrowed volume seven.
The English version of the manga is very interesting. It helps with learning English. And the stories are so interesting that you want to read more and more. I prefer 'Demon Slayer.' 'Spy × Family' is interesting too, but I think its story isn't anything special. However, the character Anya is really cute.
Now, having a library nearby is really convenient. I plan to make a lot of use of the library this year and read even more books.

I live in Liverpool, England. I'm not sure why, but there are a lot of Italian cafes in Liverpool. It seems like many Italians live here. There are many delicious Italian restaurants, pizzerias, and cafes owned by Italians.
There are two near my apartment. They are always popular. About a 15-minute walk away, there are also three popular Italian cafes. I like coffee and delicious breads and desserts, so I went to a nearby Italian cafe right away. I had lunch there by myself.
Do you know what 'Arancini' is? Arancini is a rice dish, similar to a croquette. It's a rice ball that's fried. I ate that arancini. It was very delicious. I want to eat it again. Of course, I ordered dessert too. A single espresso and a famous Italian dessert, Cannoli. 'Cannoli' means 'little tube' in Italian. It's a fried tube-shaped pastry filled with ricotta cheese cream. It's a sweet from Sicily, Italy.
The Cannoli I had was extra-large. It was really big, and I was full. It had pistachio sauce and pistachio cream in it. I'm thinking of trying other Italian cafes next time.

"Hello, everyone. This is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Please listen to my story again today. Today, I'll talk about Pilates.
Do you all exercise? Do you work out? I hate exercising. I've never really exercised or worked out before. But this year, I started doing Pilates for a reason.
I have back pain. My back hurts. I went to the doctor for an examination, but there was no problem. I was told to exercise more. But I, who hate and am not good at exercising, wondered what I should do.
Since Pilates was recommended to me, I looked for a Pilates studio in Liverpool. I searched on Google Maps for a place close by. Then, I found a Reformer Pilates studio right next to the apartment where I live. It doesn't even take 3 minutes to walk there. So, I immediately signed up for a class.
In January and February, I took a private session once a week. Now, I attend a group session once a week. At home, I also make time to stretch and do simple Pilates every day. For that reason, I also bought a Pilates mat. Morning Pilates is about 10 minutes before work. It's simple, but it makes my body feel refreshed. Pilates in the afternoon also feels good. Recently, my physical condition has been good. So, I will continue to do Pilates from now on.
That's all for today. See you again."

"Hello everyone, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Please listen to my story again today. If you want to listen to Japanese at a faster speed and challenge yourself more, please listen to my main podcast, Japanese with Noriko's podcast. Now, have you ever eaten dulce de leche? Today, I'll talk about dulce de leche.
I like coffee, so I often go to cafes. I visit cafes, cake shops, and bakeries I find on Instagram. Last month, I went to a popular bakery in Liverpool. The owner of the bakery is Argentine. When you enter the bakery, you can smell the delicious freshly baked bread. It's really a popular shop, so it's always full of customers. By noon, there is almost no bread left. It's better to go in the morning.
Now, the popular bread at the bakery is the croissant. There are regular croissants and croissants filled with dulce de leche. I recommend the sweet croissant filled with dulce de leche. It goes well with coffee.
Dulce de leche is a milk jam made by simmering milk and sugar. It's delicious on toast or pancakes. It's commonly eaten in South America. I traveled alone to Argentina once, and that's when I first ate dulce de leche.
You can also buy dulce de leche at that bakery. I bought some dulce de leche and brought it home. Recently, I've been eating it on toast for breakfast. It's sweet and delicious.
That's all for today. See you again."

"Hello everyone. This is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Please listen to my story again today. It's a story about Liverpool. I currently live in Liverpool, England. Everyone, I have an Instagram account called norijpteacher. Please follow me there. On my Instagram account, I post photos and mini videos of Liverpool. There, you can see what my ordinary life looks like. So, today's story is about Asian supermarkets. Please listen.
Everyone, do you like Japanese cuisine? Do you cook Japanese food? I have been living in the UK for a long time. Sometimes, I miss Japanese food. Japanese curry rice, Japanese udon, Japanese rice, rice dishes, okonomiyaki, I make them myself when I feel like it. I buy the ingredients at Asian supermarkets.
After moving to Liverpool, I looked for where Asian supermarkets are. Luckily, there are three Asian supermarkets about a 15-minute walk from our apartment. There, I can buy ingredients for Japanese food. However, unfortunately, these three Asian supermarkets do not have natto. I was troubled. I wanted to eat natto. 'You can make it yourself, Noriko,' someone said. But I find making it myself troublesome. I prefer to buy it. So, I went to another Asian supermarket. I had to drive to that Asian supermarket. It's a bit far.
But, I'm glad I went. They had Japanese natto there. When I first found Japanese natto there, I was so happy, and I bought a lot of natto and went home. Do you have an Asian supermarket in your town? Do you have a Japanese supermarket? Can you buy natto there?
Yes. I love natto. Natto with white rice and miso soup, wow, what a great combination. Yes. I often eat natto. I have natto in my fridge right now. I ate natto yesterday too. It's almost gone, so I'm thinking of going to that Asian supermarket to buy more. That's all for today. See you again."

If you want to listen to Japanese at a faster speed, if you want more challenges, please listen to my main podcast, the Japanese with Noriko podcast. It has seasons 1 to 3. Now, today is about Liverpool, England, where I currently live. I want to talk about the surprising things, the first impressions after moving here. So, please listen.
Everyone, today, the day I am recording this, is February 2nd, 2024. It's February 2nd. I have been living in Liverpool for a month. It's been about a month since I moved. It's only been a month. My impression of the city of Liverpool is very good. There are many nice cafes, various events, and a good atmosphere. So far, I like Liverpool. But, there have been some troubling and surprising things. I will talk about that.
One surprising and troubling thing is that I can't understand the English of the people in Liverpool. The English spoken by Liverpudlians has a strong accent. I lived in Northern Ireland for 16 years. The accent of English spoken by people in Northern Ireland is also very strong. But, I was used to that. After moving, I have to get used to the accent of English spoken by people in Liverpool. It's really troubling. Conversations with cafe staff, conversations with locals in various places, "What? What did you say? I don't understand. Please say it again." I'm asking them to repeat a lot. It's a bit embarrassing.
The second surprising thing, and this is a bit more serious, is that there are many homeless people in the city of Liverpool. It's Christmas. It's winter. It was heartbreaking to see homeless people. In Liverpool, there are many homeless people, people with economic problems, drug problems, and various other issues. It's sad. I was surprised.
That's all for today. Everyone, I'll talk more about life in Liverpool in the next episode, so look forward to it. See you again."

Hello everyone, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. How are you? Today, please listen to my story, Noriko's story. I will speak as slowly as possible. Today, I'll talk about my moving experience. So, please listen.
Everyone, today is February 1, 2024. February has started. I moved last year, in 2023. I used to live in Northern Ireland, but now I live in England. I moved from Belfast in Northern Ireland to Liverpool in England.
Preparing for the move was really tough. There was a lot of stress. But now, I'm fine. The move is over, and the stress is gone. In Liverpool, England, I'm living my life as usual. I'm following my usual routine.
The move was hard, and it was sad to say goodbye to my friends in Northern Ireland. But now, I'm glad I came to Liverpool. Liverpool is a bigger city than Belfast, Northern Ireland. There are art galleries and museums. There are also many nice cafes and restaurants. I want to know more about the city of Liverpool.
Since moving, I've tried various cafes. Near our apartment, there is a very delicious Italian cafe. About a 15-minute walk from the apartment, there is a bakery where you can eat freshly baked bread. And there are many pubs with a great atmosphere. My spouse and I like going to pubs. So, we're enjoying life in this city. Have you ever moved? How many times have you moved? Please tell me.
Everyone, that's it for today. See you again.

"Hello, this is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Today, let's talk about hobbies again. The character in our story is Lisa, a Canadian. Lisa's hobby is sewing. So, let's begin.
Lisa lives in Vancouver, Canada, and is an elementary school teacher. Her hobby is sewing.
Since she was young, Lisa has been interested in handcrafting. She started with knitting, eventually learning to knit scarves and socks. When Lisa was in middle school, her mother bought her a sewing machine. From then, she learned how to use the machine and sew from her mother. Initially, Lisa made simple bags, but her sewing skills quickly improved. Now, she can make dresses and blouses herself. She not only makes clothes for herself but also for her friends and family.
Currently, Lisa is learning Japanese. Last year, during her trip to Japan, she bought Japanese sewing books and fabric with Japanese designs. She is now interested in traditional Japanese clothing like kimonos and yukatas. Once her Japanese improves, she wants to study about kimonos in Japanese.
Lisa's goal for 2024 is to make a summer dress using the sewing patterns and techniques from the Japanese sewing book she bought. The Japanese patterns and methods are different from those in Canada, making it a challenging but exciting project. Once the dress is complete, she wants to show it to her Japanese teacher. Lisa's long-term goal is to sew a yukata herself.”

"Hello, I'm Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Let's talk about 'hobbies' again today. Our character is Harumi-san, a Japanese woman who loves anime. Do you like anime? Now, let's listen.
Harumi-san, originally from Okayama Prefecture, now lives in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. Working for a company in Nagoya, she is a quiet woman who enjoys relaxing at home on her days off.
Her daily pleasure is watching anime. No matter how tired she is after work, watching anime at home helps her relax. Recently, Harumi-san is into an anime called 'Skip and Loafer.' The protagonist of this anime is a high school student who moves from the countryside to Tokyo and starts attending a high school there. The character is very interesting, and Harumi-san is moved by the way they bravely adapt to life in the big city.
There's also a manga of this anime. Harumi-san has recently started buying the manga too, as it allows her to enjoy the anime's story more deeply. This coming weekend, she plans to go to a bookstore with a friend who also likes anime. They enjoy discussing new anime and manga together. Anime and manga are very important to Harumi.
Now, let's hear from Harumi-san herself.
I'm Harumi. I was born and raised in Okayama, but went to college in Aichi Prefecture. After graduating, I joined a company in Nagoya and still live there. I'm a company employee. On my days off, I like to relax at home.
My daily pleasure is watching anime. Even when I come home tired from work, watching anime helps me relax. Recently, I've been into an anime called 'Skip and Loafer.' Do you know it? It's a popular anime now. The protagonist is a high school student who moves from the countryside to Tokyo to attend a high school in the city. I love the interesting character.
There's also a manga of this anime, and I've started reading it recently. This weekend, I'm planning to go to a bookstore with a friend who also likes anime. We have a lot in common since they also like anime. We always get excited talking about new anime and manga. I can't imagine a life without anime and manga."

Hello, I'm Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Let's continue today's story on "hobbies." Our character is Marie, a French woman living in Tokyo with her family of four. Her husband is also French and works in Tokyo. Marie is a full-time homemaker, and her hobby is cooking. Now, please listen.
Marie, the French woman, lives in Tokyo with her husband and two children. Every day, the delicious aroma of her cooking wafts from her kitchen. While she excels in French cuisine, living in Japan has sparked her love for discovering new recipes, particularly in Japanese cuisine. She even attends Japanese cooking classes.
Through these classes, Marie has learned about miso and broth, and now, she makes miso soup every day. Her children especially love tofu miso soup.
One day, when Marie's husband, Jean, returned from work, he found Marie in the kitchen as usual, creating something new. The enticing scent of soy sauce and broth filled the air. It was a new recipe she learned in class – "kinpira gobo," a common Japanese home-cooked dish made with burdock and carrots.
"Today, I tried a new recipe. Please try it," Marie said. Jean and the children took a bite and were amazed. "This is delicious! Since when did you become so skilled in Japanese cooking?" Jean asked. The children chimed in, "Mom, we want more! Seconds!"
Watching her family enjoy the meal, Marie felt truly happy. The time spent together at dinner, savoring delicious dishes, was the happiest time for her.
Marie always thinks about tasty recipes and maintaining a healthy diet. While she loves French cuisine, she appreciates the variety of vegetable dishes in Japanese food. She looks forward to learning more about Japanese cuisine.
Now, let's hear from Marie's daughter, Amelie.
Hello, everyone. My name is Amelie. I'm French, but currently, I live in Tokyo with my family. I attend middle school here and am 14 years old. Since I've been living in Tokyo for four years, I understand Japanese, and I have many Japanese friends at school. I love Japan, so I want to continue living in Tokyo.
My mom is really good at cooking. I love her onion soup, but recently, I've become a big fan of her tofu miso soup. Mom makes incredibly delicious meals for us every day. Lately, she's been attending Japanese cooking classes, so she always tries out new recipes. Thanks, Mom! I help her occasionally. Next weekend, we plan to bake bread together. Mom is also good at baking. I want to be like her.

Hello, I'm Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Today, we'll talk about "hobbies." Our protagonists are Tomoe-san (63 years old) and her husband Norio-san (65 years old). Their joy in life is going on hot spring trips. Now, please listen.
Tomoe-san and Norio-san are a married couple living in Okayama Prefecture. They've been married for 35 years. Their hobby is going to hot springs, and they particularly enjoy staying at hot spring inns.
Both of them are now retired and living on a pension, so they have plenty of time. Every month, they take day trips by car to a hot spring in Tottori Prefecture. Additionally, every three months, they also travel to a hot spring in Kumamoto Prefecture, located in Kyushu.
The journey from Okayama to Kumamoto is done by car. Though it takes time, Norio-san enjoys driving, making the trips a pleasurable experience. The hot spring they love in Kumamoto is Kurokawa Onsen.
Since they always stay at the same inn, the staff warmly welcomes them with smiles each time. On their way to Kurokawa Onsen, they pass by Mount Aso, known for its breathtaking natural beauty and scenery.
Tomoe-san is the one who always plans their trips. While they make sure to visit Kurokawa Onsen, they also explore other great hot springs in Kyushu by researching new locations and searching for hotels online. They are thinking about visiting a hot spring in Kagoshima next time.
Before retiring, their jobs kept them busy, and they couldn't travel much. However, now, they enjoy hot spring trips to create new memories and spend quality time together.
Now, let's hear Norio-san's voice.
I'm Norio, 65 years old. My wife is Tomoe. We live in Okayama. We have two sons. The eldest works in Tokyo, and the second one is studying in a graduate school in the UK. I used to work for a company, and my wife was a municipal employee in Okayama City. After retiring, we have more time together.
My wife is sociable and often attends yoga and gymnastics classes. I enjoy gardening at home. I used to like golf, but it became expensive, so I stopped. Now, our shared joy is going on hot spring trips.
We often tour Kyushu's hot springs, especially Kurokawa Onsen in Kumamoto. We drive there from Okayama, and our sons tell us, 'It's dangerous to go by car. Why not take the Shinkansen?' But for now, I have no issues with driving. Someday, I'd like to visit the UK to see our son living there. There's still a long way to go in life. We're enjoying our pensioner life after retirement.

"Hello, everyone! This is Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. What are your hobbies, and what do you like to do in your free time?
Today, let's hear the story of Manabu, who works at a bank.
Hello, my name is Manabu. I'm 33 years old and currently single. I don't have a girlfriend right now. I'd like to find a new one, but my work keeps me quite busy, making it challenging to make time for dating. However, I enjoy putting effort into my job, and my private time is enjoyable, so it's okay. My hobbies are going to the sauna and camping.
I work at a bank. The job is tough, and there's a lot of stress. Sometimes, there's overtime too. But whenever I step into the sauna, no matter how tired I am, I feel revitalized. When I have time, I go to the sauna twice a week. When time is tight, I make it a point to go every Friday.
Every Friday is Sauna Day. No matter how busy work is, when Friday comes, I finish work and head to the sauna. I'm a member of a stylish, members-only sauna in Shibuya. The membership fee is high, but they have private sauna rooms, and I really like it.
I became friends with Yuuki, an interior designer I met at this members-only sauna. Yuuki is 32 years old. Although our careers are different, we both love camping. So, we often talk about camping together. Last weekend, we went camping for the first time at a campground with a view of Mount Fuji. Yuuki has a lot of experience with camping and knows about various camping gear. Talking about camping with Yuuki is always fun.
Today is Friday, so after work, I'm looking forward to going to the sauna and chatting with Yuuki about camping."

"My name is Mayu Onishi. I live in Tokyo and work as an office employee. During work, I spend most of my time sitting in front of a computer. So, when work is done, I like to go to the gym and engage in a lot of exercise.
I am a member of the gym conveniently located near my workplace. I exercise there three times a week. I have sessions with a personal trainer named Take-san for strength training. Thanks to Take-san, I've started to see some muscles forming in my abdomen and arms. Occasionally, I also participate in a class called "Shape Pump," where we use barbells and perform strength training to the rhythm of music.
Exercising at the gym helps me relieve work-related stress. Additionally, I often go to izakayas with Nanami, whom I met at the gym. Nanami is my workout companion. Even when I feel lazy about going to the gym, having Nanami around motivates me to push through. She always encourages me. Since Nanami has been training at the gym longer than I have, she has well-defined abdominal muscles and is a cool woman.
After our strength training sessions, we enjoy spending time in the sauna at the gym. In the sauna, Nanami and I talk about her boyfriend and work. Thanks to strength training and Nanami, my daily life has become enjoyable."
"Hello, I'm Nanami, a corporate worker who loves working out at the gym. I live in Tokyo and work in sales at a company. Sales can be challenging, but as I like talking to people, I enjoy my work.
I hit the gym four times a week, and thanks to my personal trainer, Take-san, I've managed to develop six-pack abs. I also participate in a class called 'Shape Pump,' which is a lot of fun.
Sweating it out at the gym is the best. It helps me relieve work stress and leaves me feeling refreshed. That's why I can't quit the gym and my workout routine.
I've also made a great friend at the gym, Mayu. We share work-related frustrations in the sauna after our training sessions. Thanks to the gym, working out, and my close friend Mayu, my life is both healthy and enjoyable every day. I look forward to continuing to work hard with Mayu in the future!"

Hello everyone, it's time for Nihongo Storytime. Today's protagonist is me, Noriko. Listen to Noriko's story, Noriko's personal story. The theme is my husband's birthday.
I am married. My husband's birthday was in November.
I gave him a ticket to a piano concert. My husband is a fan of Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi. He always listens to his piano performances on YouTube and Spotify. So I gave him a ticket to a Ludovico Einaudi piano concert.
This piano concert was so wonderful, and we were moved. My husband was also very moved to be able to hear the performance live. He was very happy from the bottom of his heart. We already have a lot of things. I think it's better to experience things together than to buy something. That's why I gave him a concert ticket.
Well, the birthday was on Friday. I actually wanted to go to a restaurant together, but I couldn't make a reservation at my husband's favorite restaurant. So we went to the restaurant on Saturday, the day after my husband's birthday, and had lunch together.
Have you recently celebrated your family's birthday? Did you give any gifts? Yes. Well, that's all for today.
Everyone, I have a website. The name of the site is "Japanese with Noriko". There are various free contents there. One of the contents is a Japanese blog. There you can also read my blog about my daily life. And please follow the Instagram account noijpteacher. I post mini videos of my life in the UK. See you again.

"Hello, everyone. I'm Noriko from Nihongo Storytime. Today, please listen to my story once again. I'll speak slowly. Today, I'll talk about my daily routine. Please listen to Noriko's daily routine.I wake up every morning at 6 o'clock. As soon as I wake up, I take a shower. After my shower, it's time for breakfast. I don't eat much for breakfast; usually, it's just coffee. I make a cup of coffee and savor it. While sipping my coffee, I study Korean. I'm currently learning Korean.
Every morning, I listen to podcasts and read podcast scripts. I study for about 30 minutes every morning. After that, it's time for work. I teach Japanese online, and my schedule varies every day.
Sometimes, I have a lot of lesson bookings. On busy days, I may have 5 or 6 lessons in one day. There are days when I have fewer bookings, and during those times, I record podcasts. I have several podcast programs now.
My main podcast is called "Learn Japanese with Noriko," which is for intermediate and advanced learners. Additionally, there's this beginner's podcast, "Nihongo Storytime," and an exclusive podcast for community members called "Extra."
I also have a conversation podcast, "Nihongo with Teppei & Noriko," which is for advanced learners. So, when I'm not teaching online, I'm recording podcasts.
I love doing podcasts, so I enjoy recording them every day. Another important part of my routine is going for a walk. I love taking walks and try to do so every day. There's a large park in my neighborhood that I often walk in.
Walking helps clear my mind and makes me feel energized. Some evenings, I also have lessons. When lessons are done, it's usually around 9 in the evening. After that, it's reading time. I read English books or Japanese novels and unwind. I usually go to bed around 10:30 at night.
What about all of you? What are your daily routines like? I have Fridays afternoon and Saturdays off, but I work on Sundays. Alright, that's it for today. See you later!"

On Christmas Eve night, George went to Sakura's apartment. Sakura's apartment was small but neat, and there was a small Christmas tree in the room.
Sakura had prepared a delicious dinner for George, including a surprising main course, roast beef. George was deeply moved by Sakura's homemade meal, and he presented her with a Christmas gift.
"Wow, it's lovely! Thank you," Sakura exclaimed.
Then, the two of them discussed their plans for the New Year's holiday. They will be visiting Sakura's family home in Oita together during the New Year's break. It will be the first time George meets Sakura's parents and grandmother, and he's feeling a little nervous.
"Sakura, I'm looking forward to going to Oita, but I'm a bit anxious. Should we bring some souvenirs?" George asked Sakura.
"That's a good idea. You can pick up some snacks at the airport. Don't worry, everyone is looking forward to meeting you," Sakura replied.
With that, George and Sakura's Christmas Eve story comes to an end.
After enjoying Christmas Eve night, the year-end quickly arrived. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve, and they are set to depart for Oita. On New Year's Eve, they will spend the evening with Sakura's family in Oita, and they will welcome the New Year there.

It's already December. George is a British working in Tokyo, and he has decided to get his girlfriend Sakura a lovely Christmas present. As usual, he consults with his colleague Sarah. Sarah is George's coworker and also a close friend of Sakura. They all work at the same company.
George: "Sarah, what kind of Christmas present should I get for Sakura? How about perfume?"
Sarah: "Hmm, Sakura doesn't wear much perfume. She doesn't seem that she is into perfume. I think something like a ring, necklace, or some jewelry would be a better choice."
So, over the weekend, George headed to a jewelry store. The jewelry store is located in Shibuya and is popular among young women. On the weekend just before Christmas, the store was crowded with many people, and George began to feel overwhelmed. He muttered, "Oh, it's so crowded. This is quite a hassle. Maybe I should just go home..." But he persevered and continued to search for the perfect gift.
George found a beautiful necklace with a star design. It was a gold necklace with a small diamond inside the star. George decided to gift this necklace to Sakura. It was slightly over his budget, but he was sure Sakura would like it. He had it beautifully wrapped at the store.
George also bought the Christmas present and made a reservation for a Christmas cake. He ordered the cake from Sakura's favorite bakery. Even though it was a small Christmas cake, it cost 4,000 yen. He chose a French wine. With everything prepared, he's looking forward to their Christmas date.

George works in Tokyo. Lately, his work has been very busy, and he hasn't had time for dates with his girlfriend Sakura. However, it's already December. George plans a Christmas date. In Japan, Christmas Eve is a day for couples to go on dates. George wants to have a wonderful Christmas with Sakura after a long time.
First, George thought about the location for their date. He wanted to go to Shibuya to see the famous Christmas illuminations. He asked his colleague Sarah, "Sarah, I'm thinking of going to see the Shibuya illuminations with Sakura on Christmas Eve. What do you think?" Sarah replied, "No, no, Shibuya on Christmas Eve is really crowded, and it's not enjoyable. Sakura doesn't like crowded places. Oh, by the way, Sakura likes Italian food, so why not go to an Italian restaurant? I heard there's a new Italian restaurant in Meguro."
After that, George tried to make a reservation at the Italian restaurant by calling them. However, the restaurant was already fully booked for Christmas Eve. Next, he called a famous French restaurant in Shibuya, but he couldn't get a reservation. George was in a dilemma. He wanted to take Sakura to a fancy restaurant, but it seemed like everywhere was fully booked for Christmas Eve.
A troubled George honestly told Sakura about the situation, saying, "Sakura, I tried calling various restaurants, but I couldn't get a reservation. What should we do... I'm sorry." However, Sakura responded, "It's totally fine, don't worry about it. Let's just relax at home on Christmas Eve. We don't have to go out, right? If you'd like, come to my place. I'll make some warm dishes, and we can enjoy a meal together. But don't forget to bring a Christmas cake. A strawberry cream cake, don't forget that." George replied, "That's a great idea. I'll bring the cake and some wine." Now, he's looking forward to Christmas.

3: Keita went to the park where he had found Tora. Underneath a tree in the park, there were Tora and another cat. Keita said, "Oh, I'm glad, Tora. You were here. I've been looking for you," and he picked up Tora. The other black cat let out a "meow." Keita asked the black cat, "Torar, it looks like you had a friend here. A girlfriend, maybe?"
The black cat was about the same size as Torar and had a collar on, so it must have belonged to someone. Keita told the black cat, "You should go back home soon too. I'm sure everyone is worried about you."
That evening, Keita was doing his homework in his room. Tora was sleeping nearby, but suddenly, Tora meowed as if he had found something. Tora was gazing outside the window. Keita looked out into the yard that Tora was staring at, but he couldn't see anything. However, Tora kept staring at the yard. Curious, Keita went outside and found the black cat from earlier. He asked, "Hey, the black kitty from earlier, what's going on? Did you get lost, or did you come to see Tora?"
It was already late at night. Keita's mom said, "Let's take care of this black kitty for today. Tomorrow, we'll go and search for its owner.

November 20th, Monday.
I'm currently at the airport. I have one more hour until my flight departure. I'm sitting at a café, enjoying a cup of coffee while writing in my diary.
It went by so quickly. I had so much fun and made many great memories. I was able to have conversations in Japanese with the staff at hotels and ryokans. I could even place orders at restaurants in Japanese. However, kanji was difficult. When I return, I'll study kanji even more.
I want to come back to Japan again. Next time, I want to visit Tokyo, Hakone, and Hokkaido.
Next, please listen to Anna and Carl's story.
Anna and Carl are currently at Kansai International Airport. It's their day to return to Sweden. They still have an hour before their flight departure, so they are enjoying a cup of coffee at a café.
During their trip, Anna wrote a diary every day. She wrote down many memories in her diary.
Anna is very satisfied because she was able to use Japanese a lot during this trip. She tried using Japanese in various places. However, kanji was difficult, and she encountered many kanji characters she couldn't read. She intends to study kanji even more.
Anna and Carl both want to come back to Japan again.
