Welcome to DNA of NOV. In our latest podcast series, we'll be telling the stories of teams around the globe who are pushing the boundaries of the energy industry everyday. Episode 1 will be available wherever you listen on September 12th. 

Picking up from our last episode, NOV's Stephen Forrester and Katy Weintritt take a tour of the world's largest mobile land drilling rig, the Doyon 26, and learn about all of the features and insights that went into the rig known, appropriately, as "The Beast."

While there are lots of mobile land drilling rigs, the Doyon 26 is the largest ever built. With 10.2 million pounds of steel and equipment for the entire rig and enough power generation to light a small town, this piece of technology is a sight to behold. To learn more about this rig, NOV Today sent Stephen Forrester and Katy Weintritt to Edmonton, Canada to talk to some of the people who made it all come together.

In this episode, host Michael Gaines talks with David Baumgartner, the NOVOS Project Manager. In our conversation, Daivd discusses some of the major benefits of the NOVOS system and its positive operational benefit. In David's words,"So now, NOVOS is the processor and now the driller is the process manager. So he can take his eyes off of the monitors and then the screens and the joysticks and the switches, and he can overview the whole process on the drill floor.”

In this episode, host Michael Gaines talks with Vinesh Rambally, the NOVOS Business Development Manager for applications. In our conversation, Vinesh discusses how simulations for the NOVOS system help shed light on this technology for drillers and others. In Vinesh's words, "We do a great job in presentations, talking about what NOVOS is, and what the drillers are doing, but it's not until you get someone in a chair that actually has controls and the NOVOS system on there that the light bulb clicks."

In this episode, host Michael Gaines talks with Craig Johnson II, the NOVOS System Engineer. In our conversation, Craig discusses how the NOVOS system can truly make an impact for both the driller and drilling operations. In Craig's words, "The thing that I've noticed ...is that, usually the drillers that are the ones that are most against NOVOS are the ones that are actually our biggest champions."

Continuing the previous episode's discussion with Andries Hofman and Thomas Lerchenmuller, design and engineering experts at GustoMSC, host Michael Gaines explores the considerations and differences between the design of an offshore wind installation vessel and an oil and gas platform. In addition, he finds out how weather affects operations and learns more about the personal lives of his guests.

Hidden in the industrial area of a shipyard in Schiedam, Netherlands, the Nieuwe Maas flowing quietly in the distance, is an unassuming building with "GustoMSC" proudly standing atop the roof. We talked about our subsea flexible pipe, a manufacturing marvel and example of technical know-how that has to operate flawlessly on the ocean floor for 30 years with only one inspection. We also learned about the critical role metallurgy plays in the process, helping us make pipe that can survive through the challenges of high temperatures, high pressures, and sour service. On the third episode of the series, NOV Today host Michael Gaines sits down with Marie Haar and Adam Rubin to talk in detail about the career journeys that led them here, and what makes our pipe so special.

In our last episode, we talked about how our subsea flexible pipe, manufactured in the Flexibles facility in Denmark, operates in some of the world's harshest, most demanding environments for 30 years with only one inspection. On the second episode in the series, we continue the journey, learning about the critical role metallurgy plays in making reliable, high-performance flexible pipe. Listen in as we explore how a deep understanding of the physical and chemical characteristics of metals helps us better understand how we can make pipe that survives through high temperatures, pressures, and sour service. We'll also discuss how our commitment to supply chain excellence and proper qualification and testing ensures our customers always get the very best product.
