  • 312 - The Motorsport Brief - J-Mac is back Ahead of Adelaide

With Sprintcars on the VAILO Adelaide 500 schedule, we thought it was time for another catchup with world renowned driver, James McFadden who will be racing the NAPA Auto Parts backed Hodges Motorsport #5 in Adelaide.

The Aussie speedway star made an emotional speech at the recent High Limit Series banquet announcing his retirement from full time racing in the USA, but it’s not the end of the road.

J-Mac talks about the reasons behind his shock decision, explains what’s next and shares some highs and lows from his time in the States.

We look ahead to a significant moment for the sport (in this part of the world) and what his expectations are with the Hodges Motorsport team this weekend.

It’s been a hell of a ride for J-Mac, but as you’ll hear he’s at the peak of his game and still deeply loves turning left and standing on the gas! Enjoy the ride.

A huge thank you to Tim Hodges from Hodges Motorsport for making this chat possible.

Back to the Shortcast, we talk about that forthcoming Supercars title decider plus reflections on the Bathurst and Gold Coast rounds. Why the best is yet to come for Ryan Wood at Walkinshaw Andretti United, Richie Stanaway’s new home and why he’s flying again.

There’s the new Next Gen championship over summer which fittingly includes the next generation of Murphy’s getting behind the wheel and the mic!

It wouldn’t be complete without some thoughts on Liam Lawson’s performance at the F1 races in Texas and Mexico, where the next young Kiwi open wheel stars might come from as the Tony Quinn Foundation continues to help open doors.

And Murph’s passionate pursuit of better driving standards for young motorists in his native New Zealand through his excellent Street Smart program.

  • 309 - Josh Buchan - Part 2

Recorded at Focus Driver Performance Centre at Sydney Motorsport Park, Rusty and Josh chatted before he hopped into his Hyundai Elantra TCR car to continue the defence of his 2023 Australian Title.

Buchan was on double duty, driving a McLaren in the GT4 Championship at SMSP too, where he finished 2nd outright on Sunday and took a class win.

Josh discusses his time in TCR, how he got the big break with HMO Customer Racing, what it was like working with the legendary Rob Benson, the nail biting finish to last year’s championship and how close he went to losing it.

He talks about working with Hyundai away from the track and the passion behind the N performance brand - including the Aussie influences.

Plus, taking on the TCR World Tour teams and drivers and what the future holds for this proper student of Motorsport who still can’t believe he’s made a life based round cars, car culture and of course racing!

  • 308 - Josh Buchan - Part 1

The TCR Australia Champion is a great case study in backing yourself even when the odds seem against you. Josh Buchan candidly shares his humble upbringing, the connection to cars that inspired him as a young bloke and how he literally took a punt to make it to the next kart race meeting.

He discusses the phone calls he made and the lessons he learned outside the car to try and open doors to Formula Ford and Formula 3 on the pathway. Then there’s the epic race machines he’s driven at David Dicker’s impressive facility on the South Island of New Zealand before Josh had the chance to tear up Sydney Motorsport Park for Rodin Cars in the World Time Attack Challenge.

Even if you don’t know Josh you’ll be gripped by his story and his story telling. No doubt we’ll be hearing more of him in the years to come.
