Fri, 13 Sep 2024 - 2293 - Venezuelan Illegal Alien Gang Activity Wreaking Havoc in US
A Venezuelan émigré gang is wreaking havoc in U.S. communities. In El Paso, Texas, the Tren de Aragua gang took over a hotel. And in Aurora, Colorado, members of the same Venezuelan gang have been terrorizing residents in rundown apartment complexes. Tren de Aragua is a “Venezuelan prison gang and ... they've been wreaking havoc throughout South America ... since their inception,” according to Chris Chmielenski, president of the Immigration Accountability Project. That “havoc” has now come to America. The brothers of Venezuelan illegal alien Jose Ibarra, the lead suspect in the slaying of Georgia college student Laken Riley, are thought to be connected to the Tren de Aragua gang, the New York Post reported. Aragua is one of Venezuela's 23 states, and Tren de Aragua translates to “Aragua Train.” Members of Tren de Aragua are “getting through some of these cracks that the Biden-Harris administration has exploited because of certain loopholes within our immigration law,” Chmielenski says. Under Chmielenski’s leadership, the Immigration Accountability Project is working to “hold members of Congress and members of the administration accountable for their actions, votes, and statements that they make on immigration, and to educate the American people on how these immigration issues affect them in their communities,” he says. Chmielenski joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the recent spike in crime carried out at the hands of illegal aliens, and what a new presidential administration could do to address the crisis.

Wed, 11 Sep 2024 - 2288 - Threat of Another Terrorist Attack ‘Is Higher Now’ Than in Months Before 9/11, Expert Says
It was 23 years ago Wednesday that terrorists hijacked four U.S. commercial airline flights, turned the planes into weapons, crashed them into the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania, and in the process killed nearly 3,000 people. Today, America is at risk of another equally as deadly terrorist attack, a national security expert says. The threat of another 9/11-type terrorist attack on America “is higher now than it was in the months and years preceding 9/11 for a couple of reasons,” says Robert Greenway, director of the Allison Center for National Security at The Heritage Foundation. First, Greenway says the terrorist threat level against the U.S. is high because of “our posture abroad, our approach to our adversaries, … [and] our neglected military capacity and capability and focus.” But America’s greatest vulnerability to another terrorist attack, he says, is “the fact that we've invited terrorist organizations to exploit our open borders, and now they are really hiding within our own population and enjoying the benefits and concealing themselves in their activities inside of our own borders.” Greenway deployed in support of Operation Relentless Pursuit and Operation Enduring Freedom in October 2001 in the war on terrorism. He also served as a senior intelligence officer at the Defense Intelligence Agency, and then on the National Security Council. Listen to our interview with Greenway marking the anniversary of 9/11 on today’s edition of “The Daily Signal Podcast."

Fri, 06 Sep 2024 - 2282 - How a Weak Defense Industrial Base Harms US Military
The U.S. military is only as strong as its ability to procure needed weapons systems and other defense materials, and right now, America’s defense industrial base is sorely lacking, experts say. “Unfortunately, like the armed services themselves, they have been neglected,” Robert Greenway, director of the Center for National Defense at The Heritage Foundation, says of the U.S. defense industrial base. Instead of producing all of our defense materials at home, the U.S. has outsourced some military production, but “there are some things we don't want in the hands of our adversaries, and there's some things, many things, we don't want under their control or influence,” Greenway says. Foreign production of defense materials is not only a risk from a national security perspective, it also takes economic opportunities away from the U.S., says Richard Stern, director of the Center for the Federal Budget at The Heritage Foundation. “When we're talking about what's good for the defense industrial base, we're also talking about what builds high-quality, high-paying jobs in the US, what allows the U.S. to be the most productive and advanced country on the planet,” Stern says. Greenway and Stern recently traveled to Texas, one of the few states that have managed to build up strong military production capabilities. The Lone Star State, according to the research experts, can and should serve as a model for expanding defense production across America. Greenway and Stern join “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain why the defense industrial base is so critical to U.S. military strength, and how increased production will serve all Americans through economic stimulation.

Thu, 05 Sep 2024 - 2280 - Scott Rasmussen's 2024 Election Breakdown: Polling Surprises and Swing State Showdowns
Scott Rasmussen shares his insights on the latest polling data and discusses the political landscape as the presidential race enters the critical month of September. With only small margins separating Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in swing states, the presidential race remains highly competitive with no clear leader emerging yet. Several of those swing states—Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, and Georgia—are up for grabs, while the prize of Pennsylvania appears likely to determine the outcome of the election. Rasmussen also examines Harris' rise as the Democrat nominee after Joe Biden's withdrawal, analyzing her policy positions and the public's reaction to her candidacy. Harris’ policy proposals, such as unrealized capital gains tax and price controls, are generally unpopular. Rasmussen notes that voters still have strong opinions about Trump, and despite his policy advantages, some remain hesitant to vote for him. The conversation also touches on broader political themes, such as how voters perceive "progressive Democrats" vs. "MAGA Republicans." While neither term is particularly popular, progressive Democrats fare better unless specific issues like border security or parental involvement in education are emphasized. Rasmussen emphasizes the importance of candidates focusing on issues rather than personalities, using Trump's 2016 campaign as an example where issue-based discourse proved effective.

Wed, 04 Sep 2024 - 2278 - Congress Is Soon to Return. Expect a Fight Over the Budget.
The House of Representatives returns next week to Washington, and a budget fight showdown is expected. The fiscal year ends Sept. 30, and Congress is tasked with having the fiscal 2025 budget ready to go by then, but it’s all but guaranteed it won't be. “What usually happens at this time is, we'll get to the September 30th deadline, and we've seen this happen for years, regardless of who's running the show, but we'll kick the can down the road maybe a few weeks,” Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas, explains. The “can,” in this case, is the fiscal 2025 budget blueprint, and the “kick” is a continuing resolution that funds the government, usually for several weeks or months at a time. It has become the habit of Congress a day or two before Christmas to “have this massive Christmas tree of an omnibus bill that gets passed that few people have read [because it’s] thousands of pages long, [includes] gobs amount of money, and doesn't really do the American people the service that they deserve from their Congress,” Cloud says. The Texas congressman says he's doing everything he can to return the nation to fiscally responsible spending, noting that members of his own party are also partly responsible for the out-of-control spending in Washington. “With the Left in charge, they raced toward this fiscal cliff, and Republicans, when we've been in charge, we jog toward that same cliff and call that progress,” Cloud laments. “I'm not willing to settle for something that doesn't put us on the right path going forward.” Cloud joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss how Congress can take significant steps toward balancing the U.S. federal budget, and how the election could affect the financial fight in Congress this fall.

Fri, 30 Aug 2024 - 2274 - Dirty Facts About China’s ‘Clean Energy’ with Diana Furchtgott-Roth
China's production of batteries for electric vehicles is “definitely not clean,” says energy expert Diana Furchtgott-Roth. Without its own vast natural energy resources, China is the world’s largest energy importer, but has seized on the economic opportunities of the “green energy” movement. Yet the production of products such as EVs is causing harm to the environment, says Furchtgott-Roth, director of The Heritage Foundation’s Center for Energy, Climate, and Environment. China produces about 80% of the world’s EV batteries and “mining for the critical minerals in the batteries … causes vast amounts of environmental damage,” she explains. Production of one EV battery involves moving “hundreds of thousands of pounds of earth to get the critical minerals for one battery,” Furchtgott-Roth notes, adding that “China is buying mines in Africa so that it can get the critical minerals, [as well as] mines in Latin America.” Furchtgott-Roth is the co-author of “How the Forced Energy Transition and Reliance on China Will Harm America,” a new Heritage Foundation report exposing the ways in which the “green energy” movement is harming America while benefiting China. She joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to explain it all.

Wed, 28 Aug 2024 - 2270 - Why Rebuilding After Maui Fire Is Taking So Long
Cleanup after wildfires is inherently more difficult than recovery from other natural disasters, according to Brian Cavanaugh, a visiting fellow for Cybersecurity, Intelligence, and Homeland Security at The Heritage Foundation. Unlike a hurricane, which mainly creates wind and water damage, Cavanaugh says, fires damage the structural integrity of buildings and often leave dangerous chemicals behind. “Wildfire rolls through a community, and you essentially lose everything all the way down to the foundation,” says Cavanaugh, who has former senior-level experience serving in the Department of Homeland Security, at the White House, and at the Federal Emergency Management Agency. “Now, you think once you've lost everything down to the foundation, start the rebuild process, but, everything as it burns leaves chemicals and other items on the ground. You've got to pick up the personal effects that are salvageable. [There are] a lot of environmental regulations involved with wildfire, so that all takes time.” Aug. 8 marked one year since a wildfire raged through Lahaina, Hawaii, on Maui. The fire took 102 lives and “destroyed more than 2,200 structures and caused about $5.5 billion in damages,” according to the U.S. Fire Administration. Cavanaugh, a senior vice president at American Global Strategies, joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain what led to the Lahaina fire and what the status of the rebuilding process is a year after the disaster. Tue, 27 Aug 2024 - 2268 - The Crisis Within the Secret Service
It has been six weeks since the attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and the American public’s questions about the nature of the attack and the security failings that led to Trump’s brush with death largely go unanswered. Jason Chaffetz, a Fox News contributor and former Utah Congressman who once chaired the House Oversight Committee, joined The Daily Signal Podcast to discuss the apparent security failures and ongoing investigations into what transpired in Butler on July 13. “I thought the extraction was very slow. I thought it was fairly pathetic,” Chaffetz told The Daily Signal. “It’s been illuminated more now that even though he was the Republican nominee, even though he was the former president, he wasn’t getting the full protective detail that a sitting president would get. And I have a problem with that.” Chaffetz believes the failures are structural. Poor recruitment and training, as well as heavy workloads create a perfect storm for the kinds of security lapses witnessed on July 13 in Butler, Chaffetz suggested. These problems have long plagued the Secret Service. When Chaffetz chaired the House Oversight Committee, he conducted the largest investigation into the Secret Service’s operations in American history. The investigation resulted in a more than 400 page report titled, “United States Secret Service: An Agency in Crisis.” The former Utah Congressman remains “skeptical” that the current investigations in Congress will yield the policy changes necessary to improve the Secret Service without Congress using the power of the purse to “hold them accountable.” Enjoy the show!

Mon, 26 Aug 2024 - 2266 - Are We In a Recession?
The U.S. is racing toward a national debt of $36 trillion and will likely surpass this benchmark before the end of the year, according to public finance economist EJ Antoni. In homes across the country, Americans are indirectly feeling the weight of the national debt through inflation, and Antoni, who serves as a research fellow at The Heritage Foundation, uses the analogy of wine to explain how. The Federal Reserve finances a great deal of the national debt, Antoni explains, but "unlike the Treasury, which has to finance everything either through taxes or borrowing money, the Federal Reserve actually can just create money.” When the Federal Reserve creates money, “it's like you're pouring water into wine and you're literally watering it down," Antoni says. "So yes, you now have more wine per se, but you don't have the same concentration of alcohol. So if you were to, as a bartender, pour this out to a bunch of glasses, ... you are now cheating each of your customers on exactly the amount of water you have put into all of their glasses. That's essentially what the Federal Reserve has done by creating literally trillions of dollars in just a few years in order to finance the runaway deficit spending we've seen here in Washington.” The political environment in which the Federal Reserves operates makes it “very easy to see that these massive government deficits are really what's at the heart of inflation, even if they don't cause it in a strictly academic sense,” according to Antoni. Antoni joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to address growing concerns over a recession and what the immediate future may hold for the U.S. economy. Enjoy the show!

Thu, 22 Aug 2024 - 2262 - Wait, Can Ukraine Win the War Against Russia?
It’s been 2 1/2 years since Russia invaded Ukraine. The war has taken an unexpected turn in the past two weeks as Ukrainian troops launched a successful incursion into Russia and have now taken control of over 400 square miles in the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine in southwestern Russia. After months of gridlock in the fighting, the successful incursion could be a critical turning point in the war. “There's certainly always a chance,” Victoria Coates said when asked if Ukraine can win the war. Coates, vice president of the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation says the question now is, “Has the administration and our major NATO partners been supplying Ukraine in a way to set them up for victory?” “That's what's not clear to me,” Coates said, answering her own question. Coates told “The Daily Signal Podcast” she has further concerns over the current silence from the Biden-Harris administration. “I searched,” Coates said, “for any statement from the president, from the vice president, who's now the nominee of the Democrat Party for president, from the secretary of state, from the secretary of defense. Not a peep about the fact that the Ukrainians have done something rather extraordinary and gone into Russian territory.” Coates joins the show to explain why the Biden administration might be silent on Ukraine’s incursion into Russia and the likelihood of a Ukrainian victory. Wed, 21 Aug 2024 - 2260 - Uncovering ‘Deep State’ Civil Servants Who Should Be Ousted
When a new president is elected, especially when that president is from a different party from the previous administration, personnel changes ensue. But just as important as who a new president should hire for his or her administration is the consideration of who to fire, or at least remove from positions significant influence, according to the president of the conservative oversight organization American Accountability Foundation. Through an initiative called Project Sovereignty 2025, Thomas Jones is working to compile a list of “deep state” civil servants currently working on immigration policy who would likely not support a conservative administration’s border policies. “A lot of the people who come into the civil service in this space, their career and their ideology is … they think mass migration into the United States is a good, it’s important that we let these people in, and it’s their life goal to really make that policy happen,” Jones said. He argues that anyone who thinks government employees who have spent the past four years “allowing migrants into the United States” will suddenly support a conservative administration’s plan to deport mass numbers of illegal aliens does not understand “how government works.” Jones joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the agenda and the implementation of Project Sovereignty 2025. Tue, 13 Aug 2024 - 2247 - Nile Gardiner: ‘Thank God for Elon Musk Taking on the Labor Government'
Elon Musk is standing up for free speech in the U.K. following last month’s elections that resulted in huge wins for the far-left Labor Party. Since its rise to power in July, Labor Party leaders have begun cracking down on social media, even arresting individuals for posts they claim incite violence. Now, Musk is using his X account to defend users and raise concerns over the crackdown in the U.K. “It’s 2030 in the U.K., & you’re being executed for posting a meme,” Must wrote on X Saturday. “The Brits gave up their guns, and now their government puts them in jail for Facebook posts,” a meme that Musk shared reads. Musk is combating a “tyrannical-style policing of social media in the U.K.,” says Nile Gardiner, a former adviser to Lady Margaret Thatcher and the current director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom at The Heritage Foundation. “Thank God for Elon Musk taking on the Labor Government,” Gardiner declared during an interview on The Daily Signal Podcast. Recent violent riots in the U.K. were spurred on after rumors spread online about the identity of a man who killed three girls at a Taylor Swift-themed event in July in the English town of Southport, 50 miles west of Manchester. The suspect was rumored to be an illegal immigrant and Islamic. Both claims were proved false. The man now charged with the murder of the girls was born in Britain to Rwandan immigrant parents. Two men have been arrested and sentenced to a combined nearly five years in prison for reportedly using social media to encourage rioters to target hotels housing migrants in the U.K. During a recent interview with Sky News, London's Metropolitan Police commissioner warned that law enforcement will “throw the full force of the law at people. And whether you’re in this country committing crimes on the streets or committing crimes from further afield online, we will come after you.” Gardiner condemned the violent demonstrations while calling the crackdown on social media “very dangerous.” “We need free speech champions fighting against Orwellian tactics and policies,” Gardiner said, adding that “Elon Musk is doing this, and full credit to him.” Gardiner joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain what we know about the violent riots in the U.K. and the Labor Party's social media speech policies. Mon, 12 Aug 2024 - 2245 - Veterans Affairs Resources Are Being Diverted to Help Illegal Aliens. Veteran Explains
Federal Veterans Affairs resources are being used to serve illegal aliens, says Army veteran Derick Carver. “Essentially, what's happening is, the VA was caught moving processors from the VA to support [Immigration and Customs Enforcement Health Services Corps] processing detainee medicals,” he says. “We're talking over 1.1 million people,” said Carver, who currently serves as a graduate fellow in the Allison Center for National Security at The Heritage Foundation. “We're talking hundreds of thousands of initial medical exams, with follow-up exams, hundreds of thousands of prescriptions being filled, dental appointments, vision appointments,” he added. “I mean, the care that the detainees are getting is better than a lot of what the veterans are getting and without … the hoops to jump through, because they just have access to this once they're detained.” After being severely injured in Afghanistan in 2010, losing his left leg, part of his right leg, and a number of fingers, Carver became acutely aware of the issues with VA hospitals. “I've stopped receiving care at VA [hospitals] because of just how negligent they are at times, especially with someone with my injuries and the levels of injuries that I have. It's just not feasible to receive proper care at a VA, or even at a private hospital for that matter,” Carver said. Instead, the veteran said he visits either Walter Reed Army National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, or Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in Texas—neither is a VA hospital—to receive care. Carver joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to share his personal story, discuss needed reforms for VA hospitals, and explain what steps should be taken to ensure U.S. veterans are receiving the physical, mental, and emotional care they need and deserve. Fri, 09 Aug 2024 - 2243 - ‘We Took the Life of Our First Daughter’: Redemption After Abortion
For years, Jeff and Tricia Bradford kept their abortion a secret from their friends and church community. “We hid our story, because of the deep shame and regret that we had,” Jeff Bradford says. The couple was engaged when Tricia, then 20, learned she was pregnant. "Fear didn't waste a second coming into that conversation and shame," she said. "And so, we just immediately thought, ‘What are we going to do?’" The couple reached out to a family member and received some “terrible advice,” the husband says, adding that a few days later, he and his wife “ended up at Planned Parenthood, and we took the life of our first daughter, and we didn't talk about it for 17 years.” Even being active members in their church, the couple says, they “sat in the pew silent” because no one in their community talked about the issue of life or abortion. But counseling and a connection with two pro-life leaders led the couple down a road that changed their lives. Today, Jeff Bradford serves as president of Human Coalition, a pro-life organization that aims to help women choose life, and the couple have four children. Now, 32 years after aborting their first baby, the Bradfords are sharing their story in their new book, “Beauty from Ashes: A Christian Couple’s Journey From Abortion to Redemption.” The couple joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to share their story and encourage churches across the country to be intentional about providing care for women who have had abortions. Last week, Biden announced a “bold plan to reform the Supreme Court,” including ending lifetime appointments in favor of 18-year terms, implementation of an enforceable code of ethics, and an attempt to reverse the U.S. Supreme Court's recent ruling on presidential immunity. “It is attempting to attack the integrity of the court and to destroy the independence of the one body that is supposed to be apolitical,” says Malcolm, senior legal fellow and vice president of the Institute for Constitutional Government at The Heritage Foundation. Malcolm joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain the likelihood of any of Biden’s three proposals actually being implemented, and what each would mean for the integrity of the Supreme Court. Tue, 06 Aug 2024 - 2237 - Charles Gasparino: Exposing the Cost of Corporate Wokeness
When Charles Gasparino set out to report on Silicon Valley Bank’s collapse, he had no idea he was about to uncover a much larger story: the radical transformation of American business. Gasparino, a veteran financial journalist at Fox Business, initially focused on the bank's poor risk management. But he soon stumbled upon something more troublesome—an unhealthy fixation on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies. This misplaced focus, Gasparino argues, played a significant role in the bank's ultimate demise. As he dug deeper, a troubling pattern emerged. Silicon Valley Bank wasn't an isolated case—it was just the beginning. From Disney’s controversial policies under Bob Chapek to BlackRock CEO Larry Fink's aggressive push for ESG standards, Gasparino found that wokeness had infiltrated boardrooms across America. Gasparino traced this trend back to the summer of 2020, when corporations reacted strongly to the George Floyd protests, exemplified by J.P. Morgan’s CEO, Jamie Dimon, famously taking a knee. Through extensive interviews and research, Gasparino documented how corporations eagerly embraced woke ideas, only to face harsh financial realities. His new book "Go Woke, Go Broke: The Inside Story of the Radicalization of Corporate America" offers a stark warning to CEOs who might be tempted to follow this path. On today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast," Gasparino explains that when businesses stray from their core mission—maximizing shareholder value—it's a losing proposition. Listen as we explore how woke ideology reshaped corporate America and what can be done about it. Enjoy the show!

Fri, 02 Aug 2024 - 2233 - Sen. Marshall: Google Is 'Using Algorithms to Campaign Against’ Trump
Sen. Roger Marshall says he will launch an investigation into Google after the search engine suppressed content related to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Google is “no longer functioning as a search engine that just assimilates” information, says Marshall, R-Kan., “but now they're using algorithms to campaign against President Trump.” Initiating a Google search of “assassination attempt on president,” quickly reveals that Trump’s name is not within the autofill of suggested searches, although former Presidents Harry Truman, Gerald Ford, and Ronald Reagan are. Google enjoys legal protections under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Those protections shield Google and other platforms, such as Facebook and X, from civil liability for the content users of the platform generate. But if Google wants to act as a publisher, like a news outlet, they should not enjoy Section 230 protections, Marshall says. The Kansas Republican is calling on Google to explain what he regards as content suppression, but says he thinks that “if we had a strong commander in chief, that they would be intervening already.” Marshall joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the investigation into what he asserts is Google’s content suppression. Marshall also weighs in on the plea deal reached with three terrorists behind the 9/11 attacks, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, described as the mastermind of the attacks. The deal takes the death penalty off the table for the terrorists imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in exchange for them pleading guilty to a number of charges, including the murders of nearly 3,000 people on Sept. 11, 2001. The Kansas lawmaker explains why he thinks the deal is a “slap in the face” to the men and women who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, and all who still suffer from physical injuries because of the terrorist attacks. Thu, 01 Aug 2024 - 2231 - A Top Hamas Leader Was Assassinated. What Happens Now?
President Joe Biden is, for all practical purposes, a lame-duck president, and that may embolden terrorists in the Middle East, Victoria Coates says. “Unfortunately, we're in this unprecedented situation, where it's almost not clear who the commander in chief of the United States is," says Coates, vice president of the Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation. “We haven't heard from the president. We haven't seen the president,” says Coates, who also served as deputy national security adviser in the Trump administration, adding that Biden has had “nothing on his schedule for days now.” “Is the vice president essentially filling this role?” Coates asked. “It's not in her constitutional powers to do so, although she may be doing it in all practical ways. But my concern is, given that unprecedented flux and confusion, that the normal Iranian decision-making will be altered, and they might do something they wouldn't have tried even two months ago.” In the wake of an airstrike that killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran on Wednesday, Iran’s supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, says revenge is Iran’s “duty.” Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps also threatened Israel, claiming that the “Zionist regime will face a harsh and painful response from the powerful and huge resistance front, especially Islamic Iran.” The strike was carried out right after the Hamas leader attended the inauguration of Iran’s new president in Tehran, but this was not the only deadly strike in the Middle East this week. Israel carried out a strike in Beirut on Tuesday, killing Fuad Shukr, a top Hezbollah leader. The U.S. also mounted a strike in Iraq that U.S. officials described as “self-defense.” With growing concerns over the strikes leading to possible severe escalation in the region, Coates joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the likelihood of retaliatory strikes on Israel and the U.S. Enjoy the show!

Tue, 30 Jul 2024 - 2227 - VICTORY: How California Dad Wins Custody of Son Over Mother Who Sought to Raise Him Nonbinary
Harrison Tinsley, now has full custody of his 4-year-old son, Sawyer, after a long legal battle prompted by his ex-girlfriend’s efforts to raise the boy nonbinary. “I know he's a boy,” says Tinsley. “He wants to be a boy. He adamantly expresses that. If you say anything to the contrary, he gets very upset, and it's just insane that people, any person, would push this ideology onto a child, as opposed to just [allowing them to] be happy with who they are.” After reaching a settlement granting Tinsley full physical custody of his son, the father said he felt like he was “watching a miracle.” In a state like California, which recently passed a bill allowing schools to keep knowledge from parents related to the gender transition of minors, it's easy to see why Tinsley views his victory as a “miracle.” “It definitely is a pretty wonderful feeling to fight for something so hard and to actually achieve it,” Tinsley says, adding, “I just want to help more people protect children. I want to protect more kids. I think it's the battle of our lifetime.” Due to an “incident,” which Tinsley did not describe in any detail, Child Protective Services in San Francisco got involved and “put politics aside and did what they felt was best for the child,” the father explains. Tinsley joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain how his son is doing today and what message he would share with other parents facing similar situations. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. Thu, 25 Jul 2024 - 2221 - Warning From Rep. Moran: A Harris Administration Would Be ‘Biden-Plus'
If she wins the Democratic nomination and is elected president, a Kamala Harris administration would be “Biden-plus,” a Texas congressman says. A Harris administration would mean a further “move towards socialism and a more liberal government,” says Rep. Nathaniel Moran, R-Texas, adding, “and that's further away from that conservative value system, that conservative foundation that we want to see restored back in our government.” One day after kicking off her campaign for president, Harris on Wednesday chose to skip Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to a joint session of Congress. Harris' absence was a “snubbing,” according to Moran. Vice presidents typically preside over such joint sessions. It's a “big deal,” the Texas lawmaker said, for “one of our most strategic allies, in a moment of history, where they are under siege by Hezbollah, Hamas, and Iran, besieged at every, every point in their country,” to travel to the U.S. and speak to Congress. Harris’ decision to skip the speech “shows little support on the Democratic side for Israel.” Instead, Harris spoke at the biennial Zeta Phi Beta sorority national convention in Indianapolis. Her office said the speech was scheduled before Netanyahu’s address to Congress was planned. Moran joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss Harris’ record as President Joe Biden's “border czar,” and what issues are most on the minds of voters ahead of the November presidential election. Wed, 24 Jul 2024 - 2219 - How Does UK View America’s Tumultuous Political Season?
Within less than two weeks, the world has watched as former President Donald Trump was almost assassinated, President Joe Biden announced he is stepping out of the race, and Vice President Kamala Harris has emerged as the leading choice for the Democratic Party nominee. From within the U.S., it feels like a tumultuous time in American politics. But how is the world, and specifically the U.K., viewing “the land of the free and home of the brave” right now? The U.K. is “very concerned” by recent events in America, Matthew Goodwin, a professor of politics and international relations at the University of Kent and a senior fellow at the Legatum Institute, says. “The attempted assassination of Donald Trump was seen as a symbol of a country that is very divided and polarized,” according to Goodwin. “There's an awareness that the rhetoric has become extreme, not just, around the former president, but also on the left of American politics.” Goodwin joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss European’s views of America’s fraught election cycle, and to discuss the results of the U.K. recent election that resulted in the worst-ever election defeat for Britain’s Conservative Party. Tue, 23 Jul 2024 - 2217 - Where Security Went Wrong: Sheriff Responds to Assassination Attempt on Trump
It makes “absolutely no sense” that the roof of the building from which the gunman fired was not secured by the Secret Service, Dodge County, Wisconsin, Sheriff Dale Schmidt told The Daily Signal in an interview discussing the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Following the attempt on Trump’s life during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle sat down for an interview with ABC News and said there were safety concerns with regard to stationing agents on the roof the shooter used because it was “a sloped roof.” But Schmidt points out that the countersnipers that were on a roof behind the president were also on a sloped roof. “When you look at a location from a security standpoint, you're going to be standing where that dignitary is ahead of time and saying, ‘Where are the potential vulnerabilities?’” Schmidt said. “And I can tell you if I was on that roof, I could have made that shot. It is not a difficult shot to make.” Schmidt sat down with The Daily Signal at the Republican National Convention last week in Milwaukee, to discuss the security failures at the Trump campaign rally just days earlier. He also explains why the crisis on America’s southern border has become such a threat to sheriffs across America. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Mon, 22 Jul 2024 - 2215 - Security Expert: Trump Was ‘a Gust of Wind Away’ From Being Assassinated
Security expert Brian Cavanaugh says former President Donald Trump was “a gust of wind away” from being assassinated on July 13th. “To have a round pierce your ear, which is attached to your head, we're talking less than two millimeters away,” says Cavanaugh, a senior vice president at American Global Strategies. For a bullet to come so close to taking the former president’s life, Cavanaugh said it causes one to think Trump was saved through “divine intervention.” Cavanaugh formerly served as executive director for Strategic Planning and Integration for the Department of Homeland Security’s Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office. During a conversation with “The Daily Signal Podcast” at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last week, Cavanaugh assessed the security failures of the Secret Service following the attemp on the former president’s life during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, 33 miles north of Pittsburgh. The building that the shooter targeted Trump from was about 150 yards away from the stage where Trump was speaking, according to Cavanaugh, who called it “absolutely baffling” that the building was not part of the Secret Service’s inner security perimeter. Kimberly Cheatle, director of the Secret Service, will testify before the House Oversight Committee on Monday, amid calls for her resignation following the attempt on Trump’s life. On today’s episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast,” Cavanaugh details what is known about the security breakdown at the rally and whether blame does fall on the head of the Secret Service for Trump’s near assassination. Two days after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, political commentator Tucker Carlson says, “It’s not crazy to think that there was something there, it was an effort to kill Trump, it wasn’t just a lone gunman.” The assailant crawled on to a nearby rooftop Saturday night while Trump was on stage at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, 33 miles north of Pittsburgh. The shooter fired multiple shots, shirking Trump in the right ear. It remains unclear how the gunman, who was killed, was not seen and neutralized by authorities prior to opening fire. “At some point we may find out what happened on Saturday,” Carlson says. Thu, 18 Jul 2024 - 2209 - Why Former Obama Fundraiser Now Backs Trump
Allison Huynh was a fundraiser for then-Sen. Barack Obama before he was elected president in 2008, but she now supports former President Donald Trump. Huynh (pronounced like “win”) and her husband were attracted to Obama’s message of “hope and change” in 2007. “It was the hope and the image that he projected” that led Huynh to not only support Obama herself in the 2008 election, but encourage others to do likewise. As an entrepreneur and successful computer scientist in Silicon Valley in California, Huynh hosted fundraising dinners for Obama with tickets costing $50,000 a plate. But after Obama won the election and took office in 2009, Huynh says, disillusionment began to set in. A Vietnamese immigrant, Huynh says the disillusionment “started with Barack Obama and this lack of logic in terms of how he led,” but it didn't end there. Huynh calls diversity, equity, and inclusion “Marxist and doublespeak” because “equity is what you get when you work for something.” Equity is not won because of the “color of your skin” or “identity politics,” Huynh contends. “This doesn't make sense. It erodes away from what it is to be an American, right?” Asked why she is now supporting Trump, Huynh says that after meeting Trump, she found him “very open” to considering policies that serve tech entrepreneurs like her. Huynh joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee to share her story of disillusionment with the Democratic Party. Hosted on Acast. We're going to increase our majority in the House of Representatives,” Ogles, R-Tenn., said in an interview with “The Daily Signal Podcast” on Monday at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. During the 115th Congress from 2016 to 2018, Republicans controlled the House and the Senate, and after January of 2017, Donald Trump was president, and yet the accomplishments of the 115th Congress were disappointing to many conservatives. But Ogles says Republicans are more prepared to implement a conservative agenda today than they were back then. “We're having those tough conversations today, so that when we get into that first 100 days, that we have a plan, we have a message, it's been tested, it's been debated,” the Tennessee lawmaker says. Listen to Ogles' full interview discussion of the election, the assassination attempt on Trump, and the former president’s latest legal victory on “The Daily Signal Podcast." Hosted on Acast. Mon, 15 Jul 2024 - 2203 - 2 Components Necessary for a Prosperous Society with John Stonestreet
The success of America is, at least in part, dependent upon its citizens' ability to “self-govern,” John Stonestreet says. “Faith and family are the most obvious” ingredients required for people to be able to govern themselves, says Stonestreet, president of the nonprofit Colson Center and host of the “Breakpoint” podcast. The Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Colson Center was founded by Chuck Colson, who served in the Nixon administration and went on to become one of the most influential Christian thought leaders of his time. Why? Because faith and family “play the most significant role in forming us,” he explained. But today, much of the U.S. population has lost sight of these two necessities for self-governance. According to a recent Gallup poll, 68% of Americans say they identify with a Christian religion, whether in the Protestant or Catholic tradition, but 24 years ago, that number was 86%. Today, children being told they may have been born in the wrong body, abortion still the leading cause of death among babies, and about 1 in every 4 U.S. children is growing up without a father in the home, according to the National Fatherhood Initiative. Stonestreet joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss how Christians can rise to meet the current moment in history with hope and solutions to the troubles facing America. Stonestreet also discusses Christians’ role within politics. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
