Matt Molloy is one of the finest and most influential Irish traditional flute players. Since the 1960s he has been a central figure in many brilliant Irish music bands including The Bothy Band, Planxty and The Chieftains. This programme was first broadcast on December 16 2018.

The first time Frank Tate heard a mandolin being played was in a Dublin session years ago and as he says himself, he was smitten. Since then music and instrument making have become his life and he has made more than 160 instruments which are played by many great musicians including Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Lisa O'Neill, Glen Hansard and Donal Lunny.

In 1969 Siblings Julia Clifford and Denis Murphy from Kerry recorded an album called The Star Above the Garter for Claddagh Records. The album with it’s distinctive colourful cover painting quickly established itself as one of the classic recordings of Irish traditional music. This podcast celebrates that album- the Star above the garter.

Musician Emer Mayock takes us on a tour of the Music of Mayo. The show includes music recorded for a proejct Emer did with the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar, which resulted in a beautiful double cd of Mayo music and an accompanying website www.musicofmayo.ie. In 2006 RTÉ Radio 1 broadcast a series called Cherish the Ladies about women in Irish Traditional Music. One of the episodes featured Galway sisters and fiddle players Liz and Yvonne Kane who talked about the influence of grandparents on their music, writing tunes and the special musical connection they have as sisters. First broadcast in 2006.

Fiddle and concertina player John Kelly was born in West Clare in 1921 but moved to Dublin in 1945 where he opened a shop on Capel Street. He was a central figure in the music scene in Dublin from then until his death in 1988. John's grandaughter Aoife Kelly tells his story. First broadcast on 20th October 2019.
