Following the release of her last Single “Hangover Blues”, which has well over 100k streams on Spotify, comes Jade's brand new song ‘Somehow Someone”! This song is a beautiful and fun take on having faith that Creator (Manito in Nehiyawewin) is always there for you and somehow finds his way to you through music. Tue, 01 Jun 2021 - 19min - 64 - Hayley Jensen
Hayley became a household name in her homeland after placing 4th on Australian Idol & later, on The Voice Australia. In 2018, Jensen signed with Social Family Records to release her ARIA #3 Australian Country Album, 'Turning Up The Dial' produced in Nashville by Grammy Award winning producer, Jamie Tate, featuring festival hits 'Summertime Soundtrack', 'Saturday Night' & 'Next Big Thing'. The same year, Hayley was invited to the UK to perform at Buckle & Boots Country Festival & was a finalist in the 2018 CMC Awards. She has also won an Australian Independent Country Music Award. 2019 saw Jensen tour Canada, performing at Calgary Stampede, Alberta and Dauphin's CountryFest, Manitoba - the only Australian artist on both official line ups. Whilst there, she collaborated extensively with Canadian artists and writers (including Jason McCoy & Clayton Bellamy of The Roadhammers, Dan Davidson, Troy Kokol), and has since begun work on her 4th studio album with Calgary based indigenous producer, Troy Kokol at Reluctant Cowboy Music. The first track to be released from the forthcoming album set new career highs for Jensen both in Australia and abroad. 'Breakin Hearts’, a swampy modern country song, debuted at #1 on iTunes and was the #1 Australian song at country radio according to The Music Network (TMN) Airplay Charts. It was also added to Spotify's curated 'Fresh Country' playlist. Abroad, it cracked the Canadian Country Top 100 radio charts and was the #32 most played song on CBC Music on SiriusXM across North America. The track was accompanied by a unique, animated Wild West themed music video that tells the story of a heart-breaker outlaw who meets his match in a sassy female cowgirl. Scripted by Jensen, the video premiered exclusively on CMT, was featured in their Top 100 videos for 2020, and has accumulated 75k+ views online Hot on the heels of the success of Breakin’ Hearts’, Jensen released a power pop-country bop, ‘Fireworks’ to Australian Country radio. Penned over Skype during lockdown with Aussie friend, expat and Billboard Country #1 songwriter, Phil Barton and partner, Dana Heaton-Perdue, the song once again featured the stellar, soaring powerhouse vocals we have come to expect from Jensen. The music video featured home videos of her fans, sharing sparklers with their loved ones. Released November last year continues to climb the charts and is currently one of the Top 20 Australian country tracks at radio. ‘Just Gonna Party’ is the third single to be released ahead of Hayley’s forthcoming album. It’s an upbeat, refreshing song that somehow manages to address the current worries of the world with a positive spin. The accompanying music video is an ‘out of this world’ animation by former Hanna Barbera animator, Reggie Entienza. Produced & scripted by Jensen, it is sure to take you on an adventure! ‘Just Gonna Party’ was co-written with award winning Canadian writers Troy Kokol and Chris O’Neil and produced by Troy at Reluctant Cowboy Records - the same team that brought us ‘Breakin’ Hearts’ & ‘Fireworks’ last year. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about love in this past year, it’s that it’s not just about romance, sparks and the good times. It’s about continuing to choose that person over and over again, even when things are rough. When I love something, I go all in, but it doesn’t always stick. True love is knowing this about yourself, but realizing you’ve found the one thing (or person) you will never give up on, no matter how hard it gets.”Many more exciting announcements are set to come from Meghan in the coming weeks

A new song from Brett Kissel. "Make A Life Not A Living" “This song is truly representative of where I’m at in my life right now…and probably – or hopefully – where many people are as we’ve adjusted to the challenges we’ve all faced over the last year,” says Kissel. “It’s about doing your best to live your best life – whatever that might be; being in the moment, being present, having gratitude and making the most of the time we have – that’s what is most important.
Tue, 09 Mar 2021 - 16min - 59 - Robyn Ottolini
“My ex drove an F-150 and I f’ing hate that truck,” laughs Ottolini. “You might think that ‘F-150’ is just a truck song, but this isn’t about any ol’ truck. It’s about trying to move on and get strong, until you see that one thing that brings you back to the pain. Nothing does that more for me than his white, Ford F-150.” Ottolini continued: “You’re going to get to know the real me in the first 30 seconds of listening to any of my songs and if you love it, that’s cool. If you don’t love it, that’s cool too. Either way, country music has made me who I am today. It’s my safe place to land and it’s also the thing that pushes me further out of my comfort zone than I ever thought I could go. It doesn’t even feel real yet that I’ve signed a record deal with Warner Music Nashville to be honest, but if you’re telling me it’s real, I’ll trust you guys.” Inspired by artists like Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves and Sam Hunt, she’s already released two EPs independently, including The I’m Not Always Hilarious EP last year, and was a Rising Star Award nominee at the Country Music Association of Ontario Awards in 2019. Ottolini is managed by Mark Schroor & Erik Fintelman from Workshop Music Group

Matt Martin, a young tech entrepreneur raised on a dairy farm, continues to make exciting new waves in Canadian Country Music. Growing up in rural area, Matt feels a deep connection to Country Music and the roots that comprise what it is today. Back at it with his second radio single, country fans will not be disappointed. “Passenger Seat”, released now in the summer of 2020, gives listeners a fun and irresistible invite into one of Matt’s favourite youthful experiences; summer road trips. The song was co-written in Nashville with Chris Buck, produced by Canada’s own Jordan Oorebeek, and mastered in Nashville by Mike Cervantes (Taylor Swift, Jake Owen). It takes just a few seconds to know this tune is designed for volume up, windows down, and making summer memories. If you’re like Matt, you’ll also want it to be in a Jeep. His second highly anticipated single, “Passenger Seat” follows on the coattails of Matt’s debut single, “Never Gets Old”, released in summer 2019 and earned many hundreds of spins. Impressively, it was picked up on the first day by Spotify Canada’s “Live Country” playlist where it held its place for a full calendar year – helping it amass 175,000 streams in its first year on Spotify alone. The song also cracked Top 40 on Sirius XM’s “CBC Country” channel, and was featured on notable primary stations such as Kitchener’s Country 106.7 and Orillia/Barrie’s Pure Country 106, where fans voted the single a new favourite for days in a row. Not a bad independent debut! A new single is not all that country fans have to look forward to from Matt Martin this year. With multiple writing trips to Nashville since last summer, Matt has been honing his craft with many great writers both south of the border and here at home in Canada. With a newly inspired direction for his music, Matt is finishing up a 6 song EP to be released in the coming months. Fans can expect an honest look into the complex but growing phenomena of a life inspired by country roots but expanded through urban and global experiences that are becoming more common to many of us today. Expect to hear some of the current country vibes experienced through artists like Russell Dickerson and Jake Owen, mixed with some of Matt’s earlier storytelling influences, such as Dierks Bentley and Rascal Flatts. However you interpret it, there’s no doubt you will get a real glimpse into the fun, lightheartedness of Matt’s personality without neglecting the very real, intimate moments of his life and relationships. You don’t want to miss the ride, so “hop on up this passenger seat” and get ready for some great new music from one of our very own budding Canadian Country stars
Wed, 19 Aug 2020 - 17min - 46 - Colin Amey
Born April 21st, the youngest of three boys, Colin Amey hails from Dunnville, Ontario but spent most of his childhood in Whitehorse, where the cold Canadian Yukon did nothing to cool his driving passion to be a singer and songwriter. At a young and early age, Colin's early influences came from listening to the radio and watching the hits on MuchMusic, where the performances of Bryan Adams and Bruce Springsteen inspired his young heart. In the small town of Marmora, Ontario, at the Country Fair, three-year-old Colin Amey won Second Prize in the Annual Junior Talent Show, giving a heartfelt rendition of 'Delta Dawn'. He continued to enter local and regional talent competitions, usually placing first, hands down. When the family moved and settled back in Ontario, Colin began a stretch of singing demos and jingles in a small studio, then released his first single in 1988, a pop power ballad “Gonna Last Foreve”, with a video to follow that received national airplay. The stage was set, and he began writing material to record his first CD, released a few singles that received some airplay and started on his way to being hooked on songwriting. Colin eventually teamed up with the legendary Barry Brown (formerly of Family Brown) to collaborate on his second album, gaining radio recognition with two singles that included the title track 'What My Heart Don't Know' and 'If I Didn't Call It Love'. This radio awareness of his career garnered Colin two nominations that included Independent Male Artist and Rising Star at the Canadian Country Music Awards. Looking for new direction, Colin moved into the Greater Toronto Area, and began collaborating with Thomas Wade, Jamie Warren and also with Brian Allen who co-penned the hit song, 'What About Love' for the American Rock band, Heart. Colin continued to co-write with the likes of Dean McTaggart, known for penning the hit song, 'Birmingham' performed by Amanda Marshall, and songwriter Tim Taylor, who's written many hits with and for the likes of Aaron Pritchett, Gord Bamford & The Road Hammers, just to name a few. The year 2006, brought the release of his third album 'Getaway' produced by award winning producer, Rick Hutt, with credits for his work with Tom Cochrane, Northern Pikes, Gil Grande, and Jamie Warren. The "Getaway" record spawned half a dozen radio singles, including the title track, which was added on medium rotation at many major market radio stations nation wide. Over time, Colin continued writing with good friend, Thomas Wade and sang on numerous demos and recording projects, which eventually led to the formation of "Wade Amey Wade." In November 2011, they released the Christmas single, "I Can't Wait for Christmas" and donated all download sales to the Sean Hogan's Christmas Wish. In 2012, when Wade Amey Wade disbanded, Colin was free to pursue his solo career once again. In 2013, Colin released a 5 song EP, entitled "Just Do What You Do" which included a remake of the mid 80s hit from Kim Mitchell, "Go For A Soda" which coincided with a video released to Youtube. Over the past several years, Amey has been releasing singles to radio and iTunes, including "Sunday Drive, Drinkin' Time”, “A Million Tears Ago”, and “Welcome To the World" which happens to be a very personal song about the very day his daughter, Ryleigh was born. With the current global pandemic, like many other artists, Colin is performing online shows on Facebook Live, and currently gearing up to release a brand new single cowritten with Hamilton guitarist and band mate, Darren Lachance. The track is entitled “Life Goes By” and will be going to radio in early July of 2020. https://colinamey.ca/https://www.facebook.com/ColinDAmeyhttps://www.allmusic.com/artist/colin-amey-mn0001936210https://twitter.com/colinamey1?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthorhttps://www.instagram.com/colinamey1/?hl=enhttps://music.apple.com/us/artist/colin-amey/83934322https://open.spotify.com/artist/67

Wed, 24 Jun 2020 - 21min - 39 - Greg Rider
Real change can only happen when a pivotal moment in our lives takes place. For some, those moments come early in life and to others it is later, if at all. For Greg Rider, it was a fateful car accident at 21 years old. Growing up in Water down, Ontario, Greg lived a life very different to what he wanted. Yet, he was too afraid to change it. In his heart, he felt destined to create something bigger than himself and his entrepreneurial spirit was about to set those wheels into motion. The accident had awakened him to how he wanted his life to be. If he had of died in that car accident, how would people remember him? To him, it was not positive, and it was time to do something about it. He made up his mind to live life being fearless, not fearful. Music had been an influence on Greg, but he never did anything to pursue it until his 20’s. In time, this was to change. As he built his confidence, he began to play locally in a duo. When the duo disbanded, it was time for Greg to take his next leap of faith. He accepted a job as a Bartender in the Cayman Islands and spent his off time writing and performing at open mic opportunities. One day, he met someone who convinced him he should be in Nashville and not long after that, he made the move. Since living in Nashville, Greg has submerged himself in music and grown considerably as an artist and songwriter. He had the chance to play on Grand Ole Opry radio station “WSM” and played at the renowned venue Whiskey Jam. For one year, he had a full-time residency on Nashville Broadway’s top venues and was playing full-time at FGL House (Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean) with his band. Greg also played acoustic gigs around town and participated in weekly writing rounds at the most respected venues in Nashville. After a year and a half, Greg wanted to get back to his roots to really focus on his own material and came back to Ontario. The artist released his 3rd single “Baby Girl” and started working towards the production of his first full length album to be released in 2020. He is currently travelling across Canada with a Canadian charity called “Live Different”. Greg shares his story of resiliency with the audience and plays a couple original songs. He will perform at over 75 schools and reach over 30,000 students. https://gregridermusic.com https://twitter.com/gregridermusic https://www.instagram.com/gregridermusic

Wed, 03 Jun 2020 - 23min - 36 - Samara Yung
Heating things up just in time for the summer season, Saskatchewan powerhouse Samara Yung returns with the release of her latest single “In Case You Missed Me”, available for streaming & download everywhere. ICYMM is an anthemic earworm that only scratches the surface of what’s to come from this rising artist. Written by Emma-Lee (Madeline Merlo, Brett Kissel, Tim Hicks, etc.), Samara joined forces with acclaimed producer Danick Dupelle (Tebey, Emerson Drive) to create a sound that is uniquely her own on ICYMM. Starting off with soft sentiments, Samara's crystalline vocals soar through the track with a building beat that drives the track with an addictive pop sensibility. “Emma-Lee passed ICYMM along to my manager and as soon as the song started, I was in love,” Samara notes on receiving the track. “There is so much emotion right from the start and I felt so much love still in her heart for someone who is not there anymore. She’s just not ready to give up on that person. It’s something so many people can relate to. Danick Dupelle nailed the production and really helped musically to take us on that emotional journey of the song. I am so excited for you to hear this one!” With four albums under her belt, Samara caught her break in 2019 when awarded the coveted iHeart Radio Future Star spotlight for May & June with her hit "Swerve", marking her first top 30 at Canadian country radio. She went on to have a banner year, winning the SCMA Fan's Choice Entertainer of the Year, and performing a handful of festival stages such as Dauphin's Countryfest, Extreme Mudfest and the Raymore Summer Slam. ICYMM is now going for adds! VISIT SAMARA ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Website: http://www.samarayung.ca Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/samarayung/ Instagram: @Samara_Yung
Tue, 26 May 2020 - 18min - 35 - Genevieve Fisher
The story behind this was inspired by a real life experience for Genevieve. The message is one that so many are able to relate to. "I had just performed at a show in my hometown which I found to be disappointing in terms of lack of support. I quickly began second guessing myself and started second guessing so much of what I was doing. Coincidentally I had already arranged some writing sessions in Nashville with my flight leaving the following day. As I always do, I started to come up with some song ideas. In this case, I specifically started to focus on how I was feeling following that previous night. I vividly remember thinking that I needed to write a song to pick myself back up and get me back on track. I needed to write a song for me. I was drawing from my own emotions. This was one case where I was the inspiration behind this song. I walked into my write with Karen Kosowski and Emma-Lee feeling lost and defeated. I told them I had a title in mind: “Someone Else” - essentially saying that if you could see yourself through the eyes of someone else, that you could see your potential and beauty. I know I’m not alone in this. So often, we can be our our own worst critic. While you would never think of telling someone that they’re not good enough, or pretty enough, or strong enough, we seem to find it easy to think of ourselves in these terms. Sometimes we just need that reminder, to step back, take a deep breath, and try to see yourself through the eyes of Someone Else." Genevieve co-wrote Someone Else with Karen Kosowski and Emma-Lee. The track was recorded in Nashville in late February of 2020. Her production was once again completed under the direction of her producer Jason Massey with engineering by Billy Decker. www.genevievefisher.ca

Wed, 29 Apr 2020 - 18min - 31 - JJ Voss
With close to two decades of dedication to his music career and craft, JJ Voss has taken his passion for songwriting and performing, along with his many experiences in life, to build an authentic and professional solo career rooted from the fabric of the working class. Raised on a small farm in southern Saskatchewan, Voss began his journey in music at the age of 8 when he picked up his Dad’s old flat top, and has been following in the footsteps of legendary troubadours like Steve Earle, Charlie Major, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen, ever since. From playing weekend gigs with his high school band, to gigging 6 nights a week in night clubs, to festivals and soft seaters, Voss has become known for his ability to fuse the ‘classic’ sounds of Country, into a piece of work that’s perfectly suited for our modern times. He released his debut EP ‘Hillbilly Storybook’ in 2009 garnering a WMCA Producer of the Year nomination which put him on the map as an up and comer in Canada. In 2012, he followed it up with his sophomore album, ‘Show ‘em Who’s Voss’, landing him a SCMA Roots Album of the Year award and chart action for 5 singles on Canadian Country radio, including ‘It’s a Pride Thing’which peaked #62 on Nielsen BDS Top 100 and ‘Playing For Keeps’ at #51. The album also received extensive international airplay, which led to Voss’ first overseas tour, playing shows in Germany, Ireland, France and the Netherlands, Colombia and Mexico in 2015. In 2017 Voss was forced to take a hiatus from his career for one year to recover from major back surgery. Having been bedridden for a long period of time, with only social media, TV and the news as his connection to the outside world, Voss began to digest the current social trends involving nationalism, tribalism, polarization, division, and violence - all of which weighed heavy on his mind. He put pen to paper, and by 2018, he had written his 3rd album, ‘Come Along With Me’, which is scheduled for release in March 2020. With a new album in hand, and a recent SCMA Roots Artist of the Year award to kick things off, Voss is back on the music scene with a successful first single titled ‘Some People’ at radio and his 2nd single Come Along With Me set for release on Feb 14, 2020. After years of dedication to her vocal training, Syd started integrating her powerful and fierce vocals into Country/Rock music, this inspired Syd to master the free-spirited techniques of Classic Rock with a fearless vocal range and daring stage presence, but still channeling emotive storytelling and down to earth roots of Country. When one listens to Syd's music, you will be struck by her hauntingly beautiful and rich voice. Her ability to play and embellish with her wide vocal range allows Syd's lyrics to have more meaning. Syd writes with deep emotion, giving voice to those feelings that most of us have a difficult time expressing. Syd wants to motivate listeners to unapologetically embrace who they are meant to be through the music and performances that she provides. Now releasing Country music videos and new songs, Syd is honing into her craft of becoming one of British Columbia's few Country artist find her at www.sydcarterwest.com or where you get your music.

Sun, 08 Dec 2019 - 19min - 11 - Mariya Stokes
On this episode I chat with a new artist Mariya stokes from Alberta Canada www.mariyastokes.com With the digital release of her debut single, "Hands on My Body" (February 2019), Calgary based Mariya Stokes introduces herself with a simple, sexy anthem that blurs the lines between country and pop with edgy lyrics and an R&B inspired groove. Produced by Spencer Cheyne (Brett Kissel, Jocelyn Alice) and Justin Kudding (Brett Kissel, Leaving Thomas), at OCL studios (Calgary), this quirky, sex-positive anthem features Stokes unapologetically asking for what she wants, and she hopes the song empowers and inspires other women to do the same. “I’m so proud of this song and what it says to women everywhere. It’s about owning your body and choices. We’re taught how to say ‘no’, but I think it’s important to know what an enthusiastic ‘HECK, YES’ looks like too, and that there’s no shame in that,” says Stokes. “I hope when people hear this, it makes them feel empowered to ask for what they want and to groove along." Mariya Stokes - Biography If Kacey Musgraves and Meghan Trainor had a country-soul love-child, the result would be Mariya Stokes. Growing up in the small town of Stavely, Alberta an hour south of Calgary, Stokes was raised in her parents' small-town bar, and at eight years old was sneaking in on Friday afternoons to sing with the local jam band. She has been pursuing music ever since; the past year of her career was packed full of shows including opening for multiple-JUNO award winner, Jann Arden at the Palace Theatre in Calgary, and playing stages such as Rogers Hometown Hockey Lethbridge, Country Thunder Alberta, and the Coca-Cola Stage at Calgary Stampede. She is a 2019 and 2018 top-12 Project WILD finisher, a country focused artist development program run by WILD 95.3 FM (Calgary). In May 2019, Stokes was also one of three artists selected to work with 19-time CCMA winner Terri Clark at the National Music Centre during their RBC Master in Residence program. Stokes cares deeply about her community and has volunteered at the Calgary Drop-In and Rehab Centre on multiple songwriting and performance projects over the past five years, including planning and executing two coat drives for the shelter.
