Metallica were riding high of off the success of their 3rd album Master of Puppets. Yet it was at that moment that they suffered an inimaginable tragedy when their friend, bass player, and guiding force Cliff Burton died suddenly in a bus accident in Europe. This is the story of how Metallica picked up the pieces and pressed on creating in the process their heaviest album ever.

On Governor Rockefeller's orders rather than continue negotiations New York state police lead the assault on Attica's D year. An assault the leads to the deaths of 29 inmates and 10 hostages. Yet despite the state troopers being responsible for each and everyone of these deaths initial reports claim otherwise as the state of New York attempts to cover up what happened in Attica.

With Commissioner Oswald failing to alleviate the growing tensions in Attica events lead to an unplanned and spontaneous riot on the 9th of September 1971. Paterson New Jersey in the early 19 hundreds was one of the main producers of silk in the United States and the home of multiple different immigrant groups. When it came time for these immigrant workers to go on strike they were going to need some help. Preferably from those experienced with bringing such varied groups together. As luck would have it though the IWW had that experience in another mill town a bit of the ways up the coast in Lawrence Massachusetts.
