Jacob, his wives, servants, children, and many flocks encounter Esau with his 400 men on the way to way back to Canaan.

Jacob's name is changed to Israel, and through him the progression of the seed continues, culminating in the birth of the Christ.

Jacob is deceived by his uncle Laban who makes him work for 7 years in order to marry Rachel. Laban exchanges Leah for Rachel and then requires Jacob to work an additional 7 years to marry Rachel.

Jacob deceives his father, Isaac, to receive the patriarchal blessing. Despite his sin, he continues the lineage leading ultimately to the sinless Christ.

Isaac repeat several mistakes of his father, and God deals with him

Abraham is commanded to sacrifice his son Isaac. However, God's stays his hand and Abraham grows in his obedience.

At Sarah's urging, Hagar and Ishmael are cast out of the household of Abraham. Isaac is the son of promise, and the line through which the Messiah will come. Nevertheless, God also provides for Ishmael, the son of Abraham.

God protects the seed, the heir of Abraham, through which he will bring redemption to the world.

Abraham is visited by the Lord and 2 angelic beings.

God confirms the covenant with Abraham with circumcision. An heir is promised.

Abram takes Hagar as his wife.

God confirms his word to Abram -- descendants and land.

God calls Abram to leave all -- home, family, and country -- and go to a place he did not know. Abram did so in faith, and it was counted to him as righteousness.

The City of Man is the way of self-love and self-aggrandizement to the point of minimizing, and even marginalizing, the love and appreciation for God.

All mankind comes from the three sons of Noah: Shem, Japheth, and Ham. From the line of Shem comes Abraham, the father of the faithful, and ultimately the Christ.

God renews life on the earth through Noah and his family. Noah's first act after releasing the animals onto dry land is exit the ark and build an alter and worship his God, the Lord of all creation.
