Maturity for the Christian is achieved in being mastered by the central tenets of the Gospel and demonstrated in allowing the Gospel's beauty to mark one's life. 2 Timothy 2:14-26

In the midst of our suffering, we draw strength to endure from being united to our suffering yet risen Savior. 2 Timothy 2:8-13

While believers are called to pattern their lives to support the call of the Gospel, they are not left without the provisions they will need to endure. 2 Timothy 2:1-7

The believer is not only saved, but also equipped with all the resources necessary to live a life faithful and pleasing to their Lord. 2 Timothy 1:8-18

How do we hold fast to the holy calling of the gospel in the face of fear, shame, and suffering? 2 Timothy 1:3-11

As we open 2nd Timothy we are invited into a passionate plea from an imprisoned and dying Paul to his spiritual son Timothy to remain rooted in the Gospel truths at all costs. 2 Timothy 1:1-2

As 2 Samuel comes to a close our last look at David shows that pride goes before a fall, but that repentance and humility are the pathway to enjoying God's presence. 2 Samuel 24

Perhaps there are no greater tales of valor and loyalty than the accounts of David's mighty men. Yet even regaled by these exploits the heart is left longing for the true Warrior King who will lay down his life for his people. II Samuel...

David's last words help us look back in gratitude on God's covenantal faithfulness and look forward in hope to an even greater coming King. 2 Samuel 23:1-7

Although David has returned to Jerusalem after Absalom's rebellion, he is still contending with the continuing consequences of his sin in the Bathsheba affair. 2 Samuel 20 shows us that the sword has not departed from his house as death continues...

Healthy discipleship requires an awareness of the impact of our family on our journey, a fact that both David and Absalom don't seem to grapple with. As always, the Gospel story shows us a better way. 2 Samuel 13:37-18:33

As sin takes root in David's household we see both its heinousness and its effects on its victims. 2 Sam 13:1-22

David displays the kindness of God as he invites a forgotten man with a disability to have a permanent place at the king’s table. II Samuel 9

God’s faithfulness demonstrated through time, in difficult circumstances and despite our sin, gives us reason to trust God with every part of our lives. II Samuel 5

Though David is not thinking about God, God has not abandoned him and sets in motion the reparation of their relationship. 2 Samuel 12

The story of David and Bathsheba is a scalpel in the hand of the Lord that exposes the treachery of human hearts. II Samuel 11

Despite our best efforts, the Gospel always has been and always will be about the overwhelming mercy of YHWH, a fact that David is reminded of again in 2 Sam 7. 2 Sam 7:1-29

Properly responding to the presence of the Lord, releases God's servants to a dance of unmitigated joy. II Samuel 6

As David is crowned in Hebron we discover with him, that we best grasp the thread of providence when we keep inquiring of the Lord and are not surprised by opposition. 2 Samuel 2

As Hebrews closes out the congregation is encouraged to remember and pray for those that God has given to them as leaders, equipped with the grace of our Great Leader. Hebrews 13:7-25

It is as we follow Jesus outside of the gate that we truly find life and experience the transforming power of the Gospel even in the midst of the challenges of this world. Hebrews 13:7-21

Because of the finished work of Christ, believers, even in the midst of a chaotic world, have confidence to live lives that bear the fruit of the Gospel. Hebrews 12:25-13:6

Given eyes to see, believers navigate the trials of this world through the strength obtained in the promises of the next. Hebrews 12:18-24

God uses the gifts of community and continual grace to strengthen the weak and wounded for lives of lasting peace. Hebrews 12:12-17

With Jesus as the founder and perfecter of our faith, Christians can have confidence that they are being formed by a loving Heavenly Father to run the race laid out for them. Hebrews 12:3-11

Jesus rose from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures. This Easter we will explore the rich Scriptural association of the "third day" with it themes of abundant life with God. I Corinthians 15:1-8

Jesus enables us to enter in to the presence of God and the pain of suffering with joyful confidence. Hebrews 10:19-39

The revolutionary priesthood of Jesus opens the way to hope for believers.

A mysterious Old Testament priest-king named Melchizedek holds the key to seeing Jesus as our perfect and permanent priest who draws us near to God. Hebrews 7:1-25

Because God is a sure and steadfast anchor for the soul, we can cling to God’s promise and live in hope. Hebrews 6:13-20

God's people are reminded of the grim reality of life apart from Christ and are encouraged through faith and patience to hold fast the Gospel promises. Hebrews 5:11-6:12

Because we have a high priest who is merciful and compassionate in his relationship with us, we can be bold in approaching the throne of grace. Hebrews 4:14-5:10

Because Jesus has entered our world believers know true rest. Hebrews 4:1-13

Because Jesus is greater than Moses, believers must hold fast to Him as a community strengthened by the living word. Hebrews 3:1-19

Jesus is crowned as champion through his suffering and death securing our lives as his brothers and sisters for Glory! Hebrews 2:5-28

Jesus is the Word that we so desperately long to hear in Advent. Hebrews 1:1-4

The book of Ephesians closes with a call to prayer that keeps in mind the all consuming mission of the Gospel and the promise of the ongoing presence of God. Eph 6:18-24

Because Christ conquered evil for us, God clothes us in his battle-worn armor. Ephesians 6:10-18

As believers live out their Spirit-filled, submissive lives they find that both their attitudes and actions in the workplace are impacted.

God fills us with his Spirit so we can reflect the light of Christ in the midst of darkness. Ephesians 5:7-21

The love with which Christ loves his bride shows the ugliness of impurity. Ephesians 5:1-6

As people who have been made new we are mandated to adopt a lifestyle that reflects Christ. Ephesians 4:25–5:2

As Paul returns to the idea of Christians walking worthy of their calling, he contrasts the trapped and suffocating walk of the Gentiles to the walk of those in Christ who walk in true righteousness and peace. Ephesians 4:17-24

Jesus provides both the goal and the fuel for a growing church. Ephesians 4:11-16

As we turn toward the application section of Ephesians, Paul seeks to ground his exhortations in the great truths he has been expounding. Ephesians 1-4:1

Covenant Friendship is a bond of love, for the good of the other, at your own expense, because of Christ. 1 Samuel 20

David engages Goliath with both motivation and enablement drawn from the heavenly plane as opposed to the earthly plane. In so doing he not only defeats the giant but he also points us to the Heavenly Champion. 1 Samuel 17

Amos, taken from following the flocks and sent to (and rejected by) Israel, shows us what is required of Christ’s ministers and the kind of gift God graciously gives us in those who preach his word to us. Amos 7:10-17

The anointing of David, a man after God's own heart, foreshadows the anointing of Jesus, as well as our own anointing as disciples of our Lord. 1 Samuel 16

When confronted with all the ways we stop short of full heartfelt obedience, our hearts are drawn to hope in the King who always listened. 1 Samuel 15

God's providence shapes the lives of his people, supplying their needs and inviting their faithful response. 1 Samuel 9-10

The Gospel is the good news of how God's people are met at the very point of their failures and experience the deepening presence of God. I Samuel 7

In I Sam 4-6 we learn to appreciate that we cannot put God in a box, but that ultimately we discover that He is the God we need.

In the midst of a dark time for God’s people, God breaks the silence by establishing his word through the prophet Samuel. 1 Samuel 3:1-21

In the midst of our barrenness we must learn to surrender to the Lord who is working, even if in the shadows. 1 Sam 1:1-20, 2:12-26

The book of Samuel invites followers of Jesus to realize that he is the true King that every heart longs for and to swear fealty to him. 1 Samuel 2:1-10

The surpassing glory of God. Luke 9:28-36

Jesus is resurrected, but Thomas still has doubts. In many ways Thomas mirrors the journey for all disciples, including us. Will we confess a resurrected Jesus as our Lord and God? John 20:24-29

Only Jesus has the compassion and the power to heal the blindness of this beggar, a blindness that is symbolic of the the spiritual blindness all disciples must be healed of in order to be transformed into followers of Jesus. Luke 18:35-43

Knowing Jesus more deeply is the pursuit of all would be disciples. This pursuit is rewarded with insight and hope in the midst of the deepest trials. Luke 10:38-42

Jesus meal at Simon's home clarifies the message of the Gospel, for Simon, a sinful woman, and for us all. Luke 7:36-50

Jesus meets us in our deepest suffering with a tenderness that restores, timing that leaves us baffled, and resurrection power that offers hope beyond the grave. Mark 5:21-43

In Jesus find one who sees us in our desperate need and has the power to truly deliver us. Luke 7:11-17

Jesus demonstrates the expansive nature of the salvation he has come to bring by answering the cries of his disciples as well as the Canaanite woman. Matthew 15:21–28, Mark 7:24–30

Jesus came to seek and to save lost sinners like Zacchaeus, and like us (Luke 19:10). Jesus makes us new, and calls us to go on mission with him to take this gospel to a lost world. Luke 19:1-10

John 4:1-42

In Nicodemus' encounter with Jesus we find that when we come to Jesus he knows our heart and is able to apply what we need at the deepest level. John 2:23-3:21

Jesus brings life in unexpected ways to unexpected people as harbingers of the full coming of the Kingdom to come. Luke 4:31-44

The book of Jonah helps us come to grips with both the ways that we run from God and our difficulty in accepting the grace that God has for those who turn to him. Jonah 1:17 - 2:10
