A very reasonable £100/year, or £10/month, which given I create c.250 daily reports, and the same number of podcasts, plus access to all my other stuff, is deliberately set to be affordable and good value, I hope! It's a lot of quality content for not much money, but I know people prefer things to be free - bur independent commentary has to be paid for, and remember I don't take any money from companies, so my stuff is all brutally honest, not PR!

Tue, 05 Nov 2024 - 11min - 161 - Episode 44 (3/11/2024) - UK Small & Mid Caps with Paul Scott
This week was totally dominated by the Budget, with this week's Small Cap Value Reports (on Stockopedia) giving extensive coverage & interesting reader comments debating the pros & cons. Overall, I think the removal of uncertainty in many areas now allows businesses and individuals to plan ahead again, and I'm positive on the potential for an autumn/winter recovery in small caps, which often starts around this time of year.
As usual, nothing is advice, these are just my personal opinions, which are sometimes right, and sometimes wrong - because nobody can reliably predict the future!

Sun, 03 Nov 2024 - 1h 11min - 160 - Episode 43 (27/10/2024) - UK Small & Mid Caps with Paul Scott
Press reporting suggests a substantial hike in employers NICs could be announced on this coming Wed 30 Oct's budget. I crunch some numbers, which demonstrate that retail and especially hospitality could be facing significant falls in profit, hence maybe best avoided until the dust has settled?
Expect carnage if they cut AIM's IHT exemption, or a big rebound if they don't! Place your bets ...
Lots of companies reporting again, with 5 profit warnings, 8 GREENs (things we like the most), and 7 AMBER/GREENs (moderately positive).
As always, please remember I'm only giving my personal, fallible opinions here. You must do your own more detailed research, and not rely on my views, as they will sometimes be right, but sometimes wrong, and nobody knows what the future holds.

Sun, 27 Oct 2024 - 1h 04min - 159 - Episode 42 (delayed from w/e 18/10/24) - UK small/mid caps with Paul Scott
Sorry this is a week late. I rattle through 51 companies reporting between 14-18 Oct 2024. As always we find some potentially interesting ideas (remember we're only doing quick reviews, you need to do your own much more detailed research, hence why nothing is recommendations, just quick opinions).
We're all waiting for the Budget, in case investors get clobbered. If not as bad as feared, then hopefully we could see buyers snap up UK small cap bargains.

Sat, 26 Oct 2024 - 1h 01min - 158 - Episode 41 (12/10/2024) - UK Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott
I have a good rant about "trading updates" that don't even state if the company is ahead/in line/below market expectations. We need clearer, more honest reporting, not increased PR obfuscation!
As always, my work is independent (my opinions cannot be bought!), but also fallible, since we cover so much ground and might not necessarily spot all the detail. Hence it is essential that you must do your own more detailed research. Our opinions are just that, they are never advice, nor recommendations, and are subject to change when the facts change, as they frequently do.

Sat, 12 Oct 2024 - 1h 01min - 157 - Episode 40 (6/10/2024) - UK Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott
Usual stuff! My personal opinions only, never advice. As we wait for the Budget on 30/10/2024 AIM seems wobbly. 7 profit warnings this week.

Sun, 06 Oct 2024 - 1h 15min - 156 - Episode 39 (28/9/2024) - UK Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott
Sorry it's so long, but there was masses of stuff to cover!
As usual these are just my personal, strictly independent opinions. I don't take any money from any listed companies, as my views are not for sale!
Please always do your own more detailed research, because our views are certainly not infallible, and we only do quick reviews. Also we're not time travellers from the future, so we don't know what the future holds, it's just guesswork for everyone.

Sat, 28 Sep 2024 - 1h 10min - 155 - Episode 38 (21/9/2024) - UK Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott
Lots of brief comments, due to the sheer volume of H1 results out this week. A few little gems buried in the mass of mostly "in line" performance.
As always, just my personal opinions, never advice, as you must do your own more detailed research.

Sat, 21 Sep 2024 - 1h 10min - 154 - Episode 37 (15/9/2024) - UK Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott

Sat, 07 Sep 2024 - 1h 10min - 152 - Episode 35 (1/9/2024) - UK Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott
My usual weekly recap on small/mid cap results & trading updates. Remember these are only my personal opinions, never advice or recommendations. No rants this week, as nobody has pissed me off particularly! (that's a first!!) Hunting (HTG) is my favourite share of the week (I hold), looking a decent, quality growth company, on a modest valuation, and with a lovely balance sheet too. The mgt IMC webinar was an excellent briefing on what they do, worth watching the recording.
I expect we're now coming to the end of the quiet summer period, so we're bracing for a deluge of updates in Sept.
I also ponder if the widely anticipated attacks on savers & pensions from the Labour Govt (with it's incredibly poorly judged messaging of impending doom) might be harming markets by incentivising investors to cash out at a lower CGT rate?

Sun, 01 Sep 2024 - 59min - 151 - Episode 34 (24/8/2024) - UK Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott
My usual weekly roundup of our Stockopedia reports. Plus a few macro factors, which all look encouraging to me.
And a rant about one of our (few) resident clowns who has resurfaced and irritated me in the comments section LOL!
I continue to see a positive autumn outlook for UK small/mid caps, but as always, anything could happen.
Just my views, never advice - so please always do your own research (DYOR).

Sun, 04 Aug 2024 - 1h 00min - 147 - Episode 30 (27 July 2024) - UK Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott
Roland and Graham did a lot of the work this week, as I took 2 days off for a funeral of a lovely old friend from my Southampton days, Andy Symonds - one of the kindest, most supportive, loyal, funny, and likeable people I've ever had the good fortune to be part of my life.
Back to work now though. As usual we found some interesting share ideas to fling at you for further research.
As always, we never recommend - we just come up with some ideas, for you to do proper, detailed research on.

Sat, 22 Jun 2024 - 53min - 141 - Episode 24 (16 June 2024) - UK Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott
A somewhat sorter podcast this week, as I'm away in Washington DC, meeting my American cousins (literally!) for the first time. What a gorgeous city too, I'll definitely be coming back, loads to see and do, and all so leafy & pleasant.
Thanks to Graham for covering for me especially on Thu & Fri.

Sat, 08 Jun 2024 - 59min - 139 - Episode 22 (1 June 2024) - UK Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott
Lots of companies to cover again this week, as I summarise our opinions on many company trading updates & results.
My macro view remains positive, as economic indicators improve, and I doubt the election is likely to have much effect either way.
Plus a mystery share from Friday's report!
Please remember we never give advice. These are just our honest, unbiased opinions, which are sometimes right, and sometimes wrong, as we cannot be expected to predict the future. So you must do your own research, and not rely on us, as we might miss something important, due to covering so many companies in a limited time available.

Sat, 18 May 2024 - 51min - 136 - Episode 19 (part 2 of 2) - 12/5/2024 - continuing from when I was rudely interrupted!

Sun, 12 May 2024 - 20min - 135 - Episode 19 (part 1 of 2) - 12/5/2024 - UK Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott
Yes I'm back in Gozo, my favourite tiny island of them all. A few technical problems, and drinking Cisk in the sun, means things didn't go completely to plan. Also podcastle stopped me and demanded a 145 Euro fee to continue, which didn't amuse me. So I paid the ransom, against all my principles, and continue in part 2.
Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Sun, 12 May 2024 - 35min - 134 - Episode 18 (4 May 2024) - UK Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott
I've been bullish for small caps since autumn 2023, and it's looking increasingly that I was right. Takeover activity (esp from US private equity) is almost daily proof that UK mid caps especially are often too cheap. Graham & I have seen c.20% gains in our top ideas lists in just 4 months. This is an exciting time to be buying cheap, carefully selected UK stocks I think, ignore the doomsters, they're way behind the curve!
As always, we fling lots of ideas at you to look at, essentially doing your own more detailed research from our quick reviews. We're never recommending, just providing some ideas for research.

Fri, 19 Apr 2024 - 55min - 131 - Episode 15: UK Small/Mid Caps with Paul Scott
My usual weekly recap of the small/mid cap companies reporting. Also some overall market thoughts (I remain very positive on the outlook for cheap small/mid caps, selectively). 3 more takeover approaches confirms that the market is too cheap in places.

I last interviewed Gordon McArthur, Beeks CEO/Founder in Oct 2022. So I asked him back to talk through the recent surge in share price, following contract wins and increased broker forecasts for FY 6/2024.
Disclaimers - I do hold a small position (less than 1% of my portfolio) in Beeks shares. I did not charge a fee. This is not financial advice, it's just for general interest, and you must do your own more detailed research please.

Thu, 22 Feb 2024 - 33min - 120 - Episode 7 of 2024 - UK Small Caps with Paul Scott (12-16 Feb 2024)
Not my finest podcast this week, as I've been rather stressed with looking after Mum, who had a fall on Monday. She's on the mend though!
It's been very quiet for company news, so we branched out into some interesting mid caps too.
As always our opinions are just that - a snapshot view of the facts, figures & forecasts as we see them, on that day. We have no idea what the future holds, so our opinions are subject to change if the facts change. You must do your own research and not rely on us, as we might get something wrong (but try not to), and we only have time to do quick reviews of each company.

Sat, 13 Jan 2024 - 58min - 114 - Episode 1 of 2024 - UK Small Caps with Paul Scott (2-6 Jan 2024)
Happy New Year! My usual weekly summary of the UK small caps trading updates.
Also more macro data and news, which reinforce my positive outlook for the economy and stock market this year.

Sat, 06 Jan 2024 - 53min - 113 - Episode 52: UK small caps with Paul Scott
In the last podcast of 2023, I mention a few company updates, but mainly focus on investing themes of 2023 and performance - both markets overall, and my personal year (an excellent one, I'm pleased to say).
I also note the 6 common traits of the most successful investors in my network.

Sat, 30 Dec 2023 - 55min - 112 - Episode 51 - UK small caps with Paul Scott
UK small caps investor/commentator, Paul Scott, runs through the week's Small Cap Value Reports on Stockopedia.com
As usual we've unearthed some interesting shares for you to research yourselves. As always, we're only flagging ideas for you, not making any kind of recommendations.
Also Paul reveals his (predictably) bullish outlook for small caps in 2024, with inflation now receding. Are we about to go from bust to boom on consumer spending?!

Sat, 23 Dec 2023 - 57min - 111 - Episode 50: UK Small Caps with Paul Scott
Paul's usual audio summary of the Small Cap Value Reports that I write with Graham Neary, on Stockopedia.
A surprisingly good week for company updates, plus some major markets moving to new highs, thanks to the Fed changing stance on interest rate expectations for 2024, with 3 cuts now expected. This strikes me as an ideal time to be putting money to work in bombed-out UK small caps, where value abounds. As always, that's just my personal opinion, never advice.

Sun, 17 Dec 2023 - 49min - 110 - Episode 49 - UK small caps with Paul Scott
Profuse apologies for this episode being 6 days late!
We've had more takeover bids and profit warnings.
I rattle through all the shares we reported on in our Stockopedia Small Cap Value Reports.
As always, just my personal opinions, never advice or recommendations, you must do your own research.

Fri, 15 Dec 2023 - 32min - 109 - Episode 48 - Paul Scott's weekly summary, UK small caps (27 Nov - 1 Dec 2023)
This week we said goodbye to investing legend Charlie Munger, and I reflect on how Berkshire's stunning success is "only" about 20% pa compound - something that we should be able to replicate ourselves. Maybe not for 65 years though! It gives us something to aim for, and reinforces the vital quality of patience in investing.
It was wonderful to catch up with everyone at Mello Chiswick, chatting to many Stockopedia subscribers there, and hearing from superb speakers and some excellent companies too.
In this podcast I rattle through the 27 companies we wrote about in this week's Small Cap Value Reports on Stockopedia.

Sat, 02 Dec 2023 - 52min - 108 - Episode 47 - Paul Scott's weekly summary of UK small caps (20-24 Nov)
Paul runs through dozens of UK small caps that have reported either results or trading updates this week. All views are just my opinions, which could be right or wrong in future, when things have changed. So always do your own research please. The small caps market continues to be dominated by profit warnings and takeover bids, so quite a lottery at the moment! Will the big, inflation-busting pay rises for pensioners, benefits claimants, and Living Wage, plus the 2% cut in NICs from January, trigger a consumer boom in 2024 (just in time for the election!)? That seems the Govt's strategy, which seems to be pulling in the opposite direction to the Bank of England. So the usual chaos!

Sun, 26 Nov 2023 - 57min - 107 - Episode 46 - UK small caps news/views from Paul Scott
A notable week with 3 takeover bids just in one day! Bargains galore in the small caps space, evidenced by all the takeover bids. We've seen a strong rebound in the last 3 weeks, in both small and mid caps. Is this the (overdue!) start of a new bull market, or just another bear market bounce? No idea, we focus on company fundamentals, and we're seeing many smashing risk:reward situations as dislocated market liquidity throws numerous bargains at us, so Paul remains very enthusiastic (taking a medium term view). My picks for 2023 continue to strongly out-perform too. So it's not all doom & gloom at all!

Sat, 11 Nov 2023 - 44min - 105 - Episode 44 - UK small caps news/views from Paul Scott
I run through 23 UK small caps that we wrote about in this week's Small Cap Value Reports on Stockopedia.
Also, I comment on markets overall (cheap, lots of takeover bids, but also plenty of profit warnings), and run through my spreadsheet keeping track of profit warnings (18 in October), and takeover bids (11 in October) - may not be comprehensive, as this is only the ones we wrote about on Stockopedia (companies between £10-1,000m market caps, and excludes some sectors).
Thank you again for all the brilliant reader comments, which greatly add to our reports, from our engaged and knowledgeable (and usually polite!) subscribers.

Sun, 05 Nov 2023 - 55min - 104 - Episode 43 - UK small caps news/views with Paul Scott
Paul's usual rattle through what we've written about on Stockopedia this week.
Quite a few bombshell profit warnings again this week.
Terrible market conditions continue, with obvious signs of distressed sellers (instis with redemptions, and capitulating PIs probably).
Some lovely bargains presented on a plate to us too.

Fri, 27 Oct 2023 - 44min - 103 - Episode 42 - UK small caps with Paul Scott
As AIM grinds down to almost half of its 2021 peak, even the usually buoyant Paul is starting to get a bit miffed with this bear market.
Not just small caps either, as Mid-caps are now down 10% YTD, and down 30% from the 2021 high.
Yet the market is now cheap, and we're getting that confirmed almost daily, with takeover bids, often from the US, private equity or trade buyers.
Plus a little rant about people who've annoyed me with their unpleasant & inaccurate comments!

Sat, 21 Oct 2023 - 59min - 102 - Episode 41 - UK small caps news & views with Paul Scott
Grim market conditions continue for UK small caps, now down c.17% YTD, and down c.47% from the 2021 high.
Plenty of bargains, but also plenty of banana skins with some profit warnings this week - telecoms suppliers and building materials seem trouble hotspots. B2B generally is looking an increasing area of concern, but that's why share prices are so low.

Sat, 14 Oct 2023 - 55min - 101 - Episode 40 (part 2): Paul Scott's thoughts on macro, plus other small cap ideas
I hope this is of interest, some more random stuff about small caps, markets, and macro - eg
Avoiding profit warnings from highly indebted companies - vital! Check those balance sheets!
Will we get political pressure to force central banks back into QE & low rates?
PER can be a flawed concept in a downturn.
Top-down thoughts - finding sectors with tailwinds, avoiding ones with headwinds?
Rising profits from interest on cash piles - but what about the deterioration in the real value of the cash pile?
Switching from dead positions into more buoyant ones?
AIM mostly rubbish, but a smaller number of lovely companies in there - needles in haystack!
Frustration from prices grinding down on no news - do sellers know something? Probably not!

Sat, 07 Oct 2023 - 34min - 100 - Episode 40 (part 1): Paul Scott rattles through UK small cap results
Some shock profit warnings this week, especially from Spirent (SPT) and XPP - one has sound finances, the other has an over-geared balance sheet, and now looks in trouble. It's vital to avoid over-stretched balance sheets right now.
Also some nice opportunities I think too, with plenty of companies reporting in line.

Sat, 07 Oct 2023 - 55min - 99 - Episode 39 - UK small caps updates 25-29 September 2023
3 mystery shares this week (for Stockopedia subscribers only!)

Sun, 01 Oct 2023 - 50min - 98 - Episode 38 - covering 18-22 Sept UK small caps news
I start off with a recap on my largest personal position, Plexus Holdings (POS).
Quite a mixture of interesting companies doing well, eg Warpaint and Fonix Mobile. Plus plenty of awful, high risk things I'm avoiding!

Sun, 24 Sep 2023 - 25min - 96 - Episode 36 - UK small caps weekly review with Paul Scott
Lots of interesting companies reporting again this week. Paul rattles through dozens of small cap announcements, remember this is completely independent commentary, not PR! Companies cannot buy my opinion, it's not for sale! I just tell the truth as I see it. Also no ads, as your time is important, and I'm not going to try to earn 1p by wasting your time with some horrible annoying ads!
Controversial topics this week included the CMA investigation into vets being acquired by corporates, and allegedly price gouging customers. Also does a large political donation by a vaping company's CEO merit attention?

Sat, 09 Sep 2023 - 1h 03min - 95 - Episode 35 - UK small caps weekly review with Paul Scott
A few profit warnings this week as tougher conditions start to bite in several cyclical sectors. It feels almost random how some bounce after a profit warning, whilst others continue falling. Very frustrating market conditions, with AIM now down 43% from its peak 2 years ago. However, Paul thinks we're over the worst, and relishes all the great value opportunities out there, but it's still a minefield.

Sat, 19 Aug 2023 - 48min - 92 - Episode 32. UK small caps news & views with Paul Scott
I'm only doing 1 podcast per week now, as macro stuff takes too long to prepare, and you can find it in lots of other places already.
Loads of interesting shares again this week, many defying the macro gloom & doom, and priced attractively cheaply I think. As always, not recommendations or advice, so always do your own research, as I might have missed something.

Sun, 13 Aug 2023 - 47min - 91 - Episode 31. Paul Scott recaps on this week's UK small caps results & updates
Paul took a few days off to enjoy a family holiday in Norfolk, but kept a close eye on the markets nonetheless. So many thanks to Graham and Roland, who did the heavy lifting in this week's Small Cap Value Reports on Stockopedia, Mon-Weds.
Loads of companies reporting, as always, we try to sort the wheat from the chaff!

Sat, 05 Aug 2023 - 46min - 90 - 30 (part 2) - Paul Scott - news & views on markets/macro
Usual topics discussed, including -
Yet more increases in central bank base rates,
Orwellian de-banking scandal - we need to check that companies we invest in are not letting ESG matters become excessive & dangerous,
Leveraged buyouts avoiding Corp Tax still?
Positive US Q2 GDP data
UK energy prices - savings not being passed on to consumers
Conflicting data on UK consumer sentiment - GfK says it's fallen, PWC says it's rising and near-normal! Who's right?
More profit warnings? HEAD, plus 2 in marketing - SFOR and TMG.

Sun, 30 Jul 2023 - 25min - 89 - 30 (part 1) - UK small caps news & views with Paul Scott
A huge number of small caps reporting this week, we covered about 50 in the Small Cap Value Reports! Several profit warnings, as a possibly slowing economy begins to bite in some sectors. But also some nicely performing, good value shares are covered. Rarely have I seen so much value on offer in small caps, so I remain very bullish about the medium term outlook. No idea in the short term of course! One mystery share for Stockopedia subscribers too. Thanks for listening.

Sat, 29 Jul 2023 - 53min - 88 - Cohort (CHRT) - CEO interview - Andy Thomis
I (Paul Scott) spotted strong profits/order book from Cohort's FY 4/2023 results, reviewed positively in the Stockopedia Small Cap Value Report of 19 July 2023. So I reached out to ask the CEO to do an independent, no fees interview with me. I only interview companies that I genuinely rate highly, as reasonably priced, and do them for general interest, not as a commercial thing.
I do not hold a position in Cohort (but am considering one), I am not charging a fee, and this is NOT financial advice or a recommendation, please always do your own research, and don't rely on mine - because some of my share ideas will do well, and others badly. But because I'm not a time-travelling alien, I do not know what the future holds!
The purpose of this interview was to get a better understanding of Cohort.

Fri, 28 Jul 2023 - 39min - 87 - 29 (part 2) - Paul Scott's roundup of the week's macro news
Main points covered this week -
Good news on UK inflation, which dropped more than expected, triggering a nice stock market rally.
Supermarkets - Tesco & Sainsbury buying freeholds, highly indebted ASDA & Morrisons selling them!
CMA report on supermarkets says they are not profiteering, their operating margin has actually fallen sharply.
Ocado - more terrible results, why is it worth £5bn?!
Chinese deflation?
Scrap IHT? Labour would probably reinstate it anyway, so so threat to IHT AIM strategies looks unlikely.
Accenture report says UK business confidence second highest in Europe, after Ireland.
10-year Gilt yield falls back from danger level to 4.27%
UK consumer confidence sharply down in July.
Better than expected retail sales, per ONS.
Danger of brand damage from shrinkflation - Andrex - soft, strong? Or very wrong?!

Sat, 22 Jul 2023 - 17min - 86 - 29 (part 1) - UK small caps with Paul Scott - companies reporting
Taking a risk here, but Paul fires the starting pistol for a new bull market in UK small caps! (just an opinion remember, could be right or wrong). Valuations are now becoming so attractive, due to many investors pulling out, that opportunities galore are presenting themselves. Hence why I think this is now time to be loading up with decent company shares, at modest valuations. I think sentiment may have now bottomed out, and money could begin flowing back in. Time will tell!

Sat, 22 Jul 2023 - 43min - 85 - 28 (part 1) - UK small caps with Paul Scott - companies reporting
Paul rattles through trading updates and results from 24 UK smaller companies this week, covered in the Stockopedia Small Cap Value Reports, written by Paul and Graham. As usual, we found some decent companies trading well, and reasonably or cheaply priced. One or two dogs too unfortunately, warning on profits through slipping out big broker downgrades (ZOO And TLY).

Sat, 15 Jul 2023 - 49min - 84 - E27 pt 2 - (there's no E26!) - This week's noteworthy macro/market news
Paul starts by examining Chinese eCommerce company TEMU, and its very aggressive business model, clearly designed to hoover up market share, through heavy subsidies. My mystery shop has recently been air freighted into the UK, both uneconomic and polluting, but all in the name of research.
4 positive, and 4 negative things about the UK economy right now.
Large and mid-caps have now joined AIM in being significantly down year-to-date. When will the pain end? Does the UK market have structural problems, as well as more competition for funds from cash deposits & fixed interest.
House prices are falling heavily in real terms now, but does it matter?
Will hydrogen power heavy vehicles in future? Or solid state batteries? Which tech is the one to back?

Sat, 08 Jul 2023 - 29min - 83 - E27 pt 1 - (there's no E26!) - Paul runs through numerous small caps reporting this week
Another really difficult week for UK shares, and not just small caps - FTSE 100 and mid-caps also now well down for the year.
Lots of shares to avoid are flagged by Paul, but also some small cap nuggets too getting more & more affordable with each passing week, it seems.
